George Michael discussing sex in 1988
Ummmm he was 24 in 1988?! I always thought he was around 28.
Either way, he sounds like he was a level headed and nice guy and smarter than I would have thought.
Yes, he used sex to make millions. DL can claim it was all talent, but he used a gimmick and his appearance to sell records and albums and make millions.
But I like him more after seeing interviews of him from the 80s than I did previously.

He ended his friendship with Boy George for telling the TRUTH. However, Boy George shouldn’t have outed him.

Would've also thought he was much older than 24 in that interview. Still, he was very attractive.

Man, this is a very good interview but it got uncomfortable because we know the truth about him. He was lying through his teeth here. I get why and I don’t care but lol.
Also, the interviewer came hard at him toward the end of the interview.
God I miss back when journalists weren’t afraid to put celebs on the spot and on blast. Now all they do is kiss celeb ass.

Unpopular opinion- Andrew was way more handsome than George when they first came out.

Why is there no footage of him winning album of the year for Faith? You can find so much Grammys footage but not that.

They kissed and made up when ex-con Boy George wrote George Michael a supportive letter when when the latter went to prison

Australian 60 Minutes is much trashier than it’s American counterpart (Aussssssiiiiiiieeeeeeee). The smirking, mock incredulity and pearl clutching on the part of the interviewer is par for the course.

R6 is actually found it much more entertaining than the USA 60 Minutes because the interviewer was not holding back his feelings at all. It felt refreshing 😂

OP
[quote] he used a gimmick
What gimmick?

R8 making everything about himself sexual was his gimmick r8. Madonna did the same shit.
These days it’s whatever but in the 80s it was controversial and caused headlines. He was the male Madonna but with more respect.

PS my favorite part was when the interviewer made sure to let us know George spent over an hour in hair and makeup and only allowed his left side to be filmed

Yes, and it's obnoxious and pompous towards its lowbrow audience.

The average Australian is a lot less lowbrow than the average American r11

I’m obsessed with this interview. The interviewer couldn’t stand him and he didn’t even hide it.

Someone on this site posted that George Michael looked like a hairdresser and now it’s the only thing I can think of when I see his picture.

I misworded my post at R11.
I wasn't generalising to say that all Aussies are lowbrow.
I meant the Aussie audiences for 60 Minutes are lowbrow. And the presenters on 60 Minutes are pompous and obnoxious.

That Australian interviewer was kinda mean to him

Australian interviewers specialise in mock incredulity and the then take offence at interviewees who cut through the shit. The American Minutes has historically made attempts at serious journalism. The Australian version has no such pretensions. It’s nothing but tabloid trash.

R18 I’ve seen lots of footage of the Australian version, and that’s just not true

"making everything about himself sexual was his gimmick"
Huh? This doesn't make sense. What was sexual about the way GM presented himself? His clothes?
Every pop star uses sex to sell records. Remember the close up of Bruce Springsteen's ass on the cover of his record and the tight shirts he wore in videos to show off his muscles? No one on the radio doesn't sell sex if you're going by costumes or appearances only.

R21 were you around in the 80s? Most pop stars weren’t using sex the way Madonna and him were. MJ wasn’t, Janet wasn’t (yet), Debbie Gibson, Cyndi Lauper, Prince etc. all weren’t.

I am Australian, r19.
It’s lowbrow shit. They interview Katie Hopkins about Meghan Markle.
