Are Dolce & Gabbana no longer persona non grata?

In Venice the other night, they threw a big party. Everyone was there. They hung out with folks like Kris Jenner, Sharon Stone & Helen Mirren.

So are they not racist homophobes any more?

And why wasn’t Sutton from RHOBH invited?

by Anonymousreply 94July 12, 2022 6:37 PM

They are still non grata, to me. Self hating assholes.

by Anonymousreply 1August 30, 2021 3:58 PM

I'm surprised the fashion elite (designers, editors, influencers) haven't tried to cancel the Kardashians for being so chummy with the brand.

Or are the Kardashians just too big to fail?

by Anonymousreply 2August 30, 2021 4:01 PM

That damn song will be in my head all week, OP.

Sharon Stone looks fantastic, at the 18th picture. The complete Italian power widow.

by Anonymousreply 3August 30, 2021 4:02 PM

Normani’s edges are something of a Hair Don’t.

by Anonymousreply 4August 30, 2021 4:04 PM

They've both made many vile comments, including homophobic ones - which is surreal coming from two gay guys.

Somehow they've gotten away with it. I despise them - they seem like complete assholes.

by Anonymousreply 5August 30, 2021 4:07 PM

They are still persona au gratin.

by Anonymousreply 6August 30, 2021 4:16 PM

What did they say?

by Anonymousreply 7August 30, 2021 4:20 PM

R7 - despite supporting and dressing Melania Trump, they called IVF children 'fake' and not real kids, they did not support gay adoption and thought it was wrong, Gabbana said "Do not call me gay! I am a MAN! What I do in my personal life is private"

They've mocked slavery with several fashion shows, they've mocked Asian culture.

The list goes on and on. They are really vile.

by Anonymousreply 8August 30, 2021 4:28 PM

R8, Wow l! I didn't realize how bad their comments were. JFC.

by Anonymousreply 9August 30, 2021 4:29 PM

Thanks r8.

by Anonymousreply 10August 30, 2021 4:29 PM

All those celebs are shit stains.

by Anonymousreply 11August 30, 2021 4:34 PM

When did they mock slavery r8? Their supposed mocking of Asian culture was an ad with a Chinese model eating Italian food with chopsticks. Big deal. They've been supportive of "diversity" on the runway and in their ads before it was ever hip.

Domenico didn't say that IVF kids were synthetic but “children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalogue.” He also apologised. Stefano - who, along with Domenico, has been more of an out gay man for over 20 years than most public figures who are gay - just made some stupid comments to annoy the wokerati.

by Anonymousreply 12August 30, 2021 4:36 PM

OP/r3, D&G were never persona non grata in the fashion industry and broader fashion world.

by Anonymousreply 13August 30, 2021 4:37 PM

No, r12, not just a question of “annoying the wokerati” (btw, using the term that way puts you straight in the deplorable faction, but you know that). They were outspokenly against gay marriage and, in the original draft of the Italian law that was eventually watered down to an anodyne civil union, they were above all against the right to automatically adopt one’s partner’s children. For some reason, they always end up on the same side of important political and social barricades as the reactionary, neofascist turds.

They are a pair of revolting self-loathing queens.

by Anonymousreply 14August 30, 2021 4:59 PM

And their clothes are the same italian tea party shit every season.

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2021 5:00 PM

They're fine. Elton John still likes them even though they've said his children are damned to hell for being IVF.

by Anonymousreply 16August 30, 2021 5:03 PM

R12 - the ad had a chinese model trying to eat pizza with chopsticks - as if they've never encountered pizza before and are ignorant as to how to eat it.

They like to stoke controversy and have done NOTHING for gay people with their comments.

by Anonymousreply 17August 30, 2021 5:04 PM

I only see their logo t-shirts worn by cholas.

by Anonymousreply 18August 30, 2021 5:04 PM

Wasn;'t Gucci cancelled too? I still see rappers wearing it.

by Anonymousreply 19August 30, 2021 5:05 PM

I miss Moschino.

by Anonymousreply 20August 30, 2021 5:05 PM

Puff Daddy, your daughters...WOOF!

by Anonymousreply 21August 30, 2021 5:06 PM

R3- What song? The one about Dennis Hopper?

by Anonymousreply 22August 30, 2021 5:07 PM

Aren't "edges" just baby hair or breakage? Why do blacks act like it's a good thing?

by Anonymousreply 23August 30, 2021 5:08 PM

Well I, for one, shall never wear their couture from this moment forward!

by Anonymousreply 24August 30, 2021 5:08 PM

[quote][bold]#DGTheGreatShow[/bold] …In the short film, a Chinese model attempts to eat various Italian foods with chopsticks while a Chinese voiceover narration makes sexual innuendos about the food being too big for her. The video was taken down less than 24 hours later after commenters accused the label of racism. Industry watchdog Diet Prada then posted a series of screenshots of direct messages between Stefano Gabbana and another user in which the designer defended the video as “a tribute,” branding the accusations of racism “fake news,” and calling the people of China an “Ignorant Dirty Smelling Mafia” who eat dogs.

[quote][bold]The IVF Comments[/bold]“I am not convinced by those I call children of chemicals, synthetic children: Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog,” Domenico Dolce told Italian magazine Panorama in March 2015. “The family is not a fad. In it, there is a supernatural sense of belonging. You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be.” Elton John called for a boycott of the brand in response to these statements and many celebrities followed suit, throwing their support behind the musician. In response, Gabbana accused the boycotters of being “racist dictators” who were attacking him because his opinion is “different,” calling John a “fascist” and urging his followers to boycott the singer in turn.

[quote][bold]Selena Gomez[/bold] In June 2018, Gabbana left a comment on an Instagram photo collage of Selena Gomez posted by The Catwalk Italia, writing, “è proprio brutta” — which roughly translates to “she’s so ugly.”

[quote][bold]“Thin and Gorgeous” Sneakers[/bold] In April 2017, the brand advertised their new sneakers on Instagram with the words “I’m Thin & Gorgeous” written across the side. Many on social media were outraged by the message, including Claire Mysko, CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association, who told Yahoo Style, “Though there may be an element of cheeky humor at play in the design of these sneakers, equating thinness and beauty with success and status is a message that hurts everyone. When the prevailing message is thin is good, gorgeous is good, that becomes our priority, often at the expense of our health and well-being.” Gabbana eventually caught wind of the controversy, responding on his favorite platform, “When idiocy distorts reality!!! incredibile!!!! [sic] Next time we’ll write LOVE TO BE FAT AND FULL OF CHOLESTEROL. The most stupid post ever.”

[quote][bold]Spring/Summer 2016 “Slave” Sandals[/bold] In March 2016, the label began selling a $2,395 pair of shoes on their website listed as “slave sandals.” After an enormous social media backlash, D&G eventually changed the shoe’s name to the more innocuous “decorative flat sandal.”

[quote][bold]Spring/Summer 2012 Blackamoor earrings[/bold]For the brand’s Spring 2012 collection, the designers said they drew inspiration from their homeland of Sicily. They also appear to have drawn inspiration from colonialism, sending Blackamoor earrings down the runway. As The Guardian so aptly put it at the time, “There’s nothing cute about two white men selling minstrel earrings to a majority non-black audience. There wasn’t a single black model in Dolce & Gabbana’s show, and it’s hard not to be appalled by the transparent exoticism in sending the only black faces down the runway in the form of earrings.”

The list also includes criticism/insults about Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Miley Cyrus and the Kardashians, banning the press, tax evasion and Melania Trump

Sorry about the bold

by Anonymousreply 26August 30, 2021 5:09 PM

Gabbana was right about Selena Gomez. She's a cheap little hamster looking thing.

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2021 5:10 PM

R25 & R26- Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 28August 30, 2021 5:10 PM

People are so over this "cancelled" shit.

Dolce&Gabbana are as popular as ever

by Anonymousreply 29August 30, 2021 5:12 PM

I love them!

by Anonymousreply 30August 30, 2021 5:12 PM

Straight people don't care about their anti-gay bias. They're homophobic gay men which is very Italian.

by Anonymousreply 31August 30, 2021 5:14 PM

She grew up with the children of the stars In the Hollywood hills and the boulevards Her parents threw big parties Everyone was there They hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper and Bob Seger and Sonny and Cher

She feels safe now in this bar on Fairfax And from the stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't Relax And just before she hangs her head to cry I sing to her a lullaby I sing:

Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye

She still lives with her mom outside the city Down that street about a half a mile And all her friends tell her she's so pretty But she'd be a whole lot prettier if she smiled once in a while 'Cause even her smile looks like a frown She's seen her share of devils in this angel town

Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye

I told her I ain't so sure about this place It's hard to play a gig in this town and keep a straight face Seems like everybody's got a plan It's kind of like Nashville with a tan

Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye Everything's gonna be all right Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye

by Anonymousreply 32August 30, 2021 5:14 PM

This is how stupid the American left can be:

"“Thin and Gorgeous” Sneakers In April 2017, the brand advertised their new sneakers on Instagram with the words “I’m Thin & Gorgeous” written across the side. Bravo Sig. Gabbana!

by Anonymousreply 33August 30, 2021 5:15 PM

Oh my God, I love Dolce & Gabbana! They’re hilarious! I take pleasure from the fake outrage on here.

by Anonymousreply 34August 30, 2021 5:43 PM

The plural form is [italic]personae non gratae[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 35August 30, 2021 5:44 PM

Ok you idiots who are over the woke brigade the main thing is these two italian roaches are butt ugly and somehow their clothes are even uglier.

by Anonymousreply 36August 30, 2021 5:52 PM

Don't care for them and their fashion, and any celebrity or non-celebrity who wears them, after they said that children need a family with a mother and a father, dissing single moms, single fathers, and gay and lesbian couples.

by Anonymousreply 37August 30, 2021 6:01 PM

Well they sound like any number of active posters here. I’m predicting an appearance at the DL Christmas party, sometime in between the Brendad Ickson keynote and the Andy Dick standup routine.

by Anonymousreply 38August 30, 2021 6:06 PM

R34 = Piers Morgan

by Anonymousreply 39August 30, 2021 6:17 PM

I don't think they were ever persona non grata. They're Italian, so American sensibilities are a little irrelevant and they're still the tacky brand of note for rich Russians/Arabs/Americans.

by Anonymousreply 40August 30, 2021 6:17 PM

They made any number of gaudy wedding gowns for Kitty Spencer’s wedding to her elderly husband

by Anonymousreply 41August 30, 2021 6:18 PM

R14, I'm not American but do like Hillary Clinton, so you can't stick me into your simplistic "deplorable" basket.

It's your right to dislike D&G, but, whether you like it or not, they're not cancelled and remain extremely popular, as evidenced by the event in Venice. They are not as you claim they are and the world doesn't give a shit about your outrage.

by Anonymousreply 42August 30, 2021 6:28 PM

Actually, D&G are as bigoted as r14 claims but they give free sparkly clothes to celebrities and Helen Mirren, Vin Diesel and Kate Bosworth are bored in lockdown and want to attend a huge party in Venice.

by Anonymousreply 43August 30, 2021 6:32 PM

R14 Is the typical American who needs to "educate" other cultures.

by Anonymousreply 44August 30, 2021 6:56 PM

Anyone who uses the term “wokerati” is deplorable adjacent

by Anonymousreply 45August 30, 2021 7:00 PM

I’m not American, r44, and my “outrage” is due to the fact that D&G have always sided with the reactionary right in Italy, which has has directly led to my not being allowed to adopt my partner’s child here in Italy.

So, little Milo, go flap your deplorable little gums at someone else.

by Anonymousreply 46August 30, 2021 7:06 PM

R45 Ok. Lol! Are you so stupid that you think that those of us against woke narratives care about what your type call. Just fucking die, trash. I wish you harm.

by Anonymousreply 47August 30, 2021 7:09 PM

Who cares? Their job is to design clothes! Why the fuck is it important what fashion designers, gay ones at that, think of IVF? I think their clothes are tacky as fuck, but if people like wearing them......

I do like that dress Sharon Stone wore to Cannes this past year. She looked amazing.

by Anonymousreply 48August 30, 2021 7:10 PM

Also born and raised Italians are generally conservative/reactionary, Italian-Americans SLIGHTLY less so, but not commonly.

by Anonymousreply 49August 30, 2021 7:13 PM

[quote]which has has directly led to my not being allowed to adopt my partner’s child here in Italy.

Then leave the country. Idiot.

Italy, is what it is, with its family and religious traditions. Change is SLOW.

D&G's opinion of the family is aligned with the majority of Italians.

[quote] The plural form is personae non gratae.

In this case the brand Dolce & Gabbana is singular.

by Anonymousreply 57August 31, 2021 7:19 PM

ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 08/30 **7**

This fashion house ("Dolce & Gabbana") which shouldn't even exist because of just how awful the two owners (Domenico Dolce) (Stefano Gabbana) are, thought they would have to spend millions to get celebrities to show up at their fashion show because of just how awful they are. Nope. It turns out, the celebrities flocked to them for a free trip and free swag.

Attendees include Jennifer Lopez, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Vanessa Bryant , Jennifer Hudson, Ciara , Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego, Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz , Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble, Bebe Rexha, Helen Mirren, Doja Cat , Kate Bosworth, January Jones, "Borat: Subsequent Move Film" star, Maria Bakalova,,

Percentagewise this seems largely a POC event. That should make it ok.

[quote] D&G are all the rage at the moment. People are starting to wake up the the woke cancel-culture bullshit.

They might be all the rage because celebrities don’t care about homophobia but they’re not all the rage because of their hideous clothes.

by Anonymousreply 63September 9, 2021 2:45 PM

Most big name Italian fashion is so trashy. Gucci, D&G, Versace, only aspirationals and the nouveau-riche wear it.

by Anonymousreply 64September 9, 2021 3:11 PM

Add Cavalli to that list of Italian trash.

Armani, Prada are usually tasteful, though boring in the former case and precious in the latter. And Valentino owes more to the French.

by Anonymousreply 65September 9, 2021 3:33 PM

Hype. It's all it is. Hype the latest fashion trend, hype the fashion labels, hype the fashion houses, etc.

by Anonymousreply 66September 9, 2021 4:12 PM

Aspesi, Brunello Cuccinelli, Missoni, Bottega Veneta, Brioni, Marni , Etro, Genny, Kiton, Loro Piana, Moncler, Ferragamo, Tod's, Zegna, C.P. Company,....etc.

[quote]And Valentino owes more to the French

Hardly.

by Anonymousreply 70September 9, 2021 5:17 PM

People who want to cancel other people for being less-than-perfect should go transition, change their pronouns, topple the patriarchy, and then kill themselves in that order.

by Anonymousreply 71September 9, 2021 5:22 PM

Click through to their new show. Loving the black widow handmaiden drag but the collection owes more to Early 1990s Persian Emigrées.

by Anonymousreply 72July 11, 2022 5:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 73July 11, 2022 6:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 74July 11, 2022 6:43 PM
