Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast
Anyone else a fan? I saw it mentioned on DL recently and started listening. I find it to be mostly really excellent- long, revealing interviews with big and semi-big celebrities of yesteryear with an emphasis on character actors. It’s very anecdote heavy and one of the best things about it is showing how wide-ranging a career can be and the incredible, unlikely connections in show business (say for instance, Charlotte Rae or Frankie Avalon).
Depending on the guest, it can be pretty filthy and the show loves a good rumor. Favorites so far: Danny Aiello, Gavin MacLeod, Paul Dooley. He and his cohost really know their show biz history. Also impressions (who does impressions anymore?) and Paul Lynde.

I love it. He repeats a rumor about Cesar Romero getting naked and having boys throw oranges at his behind, or something like that.

Gilbert has an encyclopedic knowledge of old movies and talk shows. I loved the Dick Cavett episode. He's got a lot of interesting stories as well, but he must have told that rumor about Cesar Romero throwing orange slices at twinks' asses a hundred times.

Longtime fan. Gilbert and Frank are the best. They make a great pair as Frank helps balance out Gilbert who’s frequently crazy and filthy. I say that as a fan. Gilbert’s obsessions with salacious gossip like Cesar Romero dropping his pants and having his young boy toys fling orange peels at his ass is what I live for. 😀
Great description of his podcast by the way, OP.

I never thought of having thinks throw oranges at my naked ass.
Hmm.
The whole orange or just slices?
Will a Cuties Mandarin do?
Should they be peeled or just cut?
So many possibilities. . .all so fruity and fun!

I love that the guests go on at length about insider shit that they’d never talk about on a talk show.
I enjoyed the Michele Lee episode a lot. Carol Kane had a great Bette Davis story.
Gilbert’s love for salacious rumors is made for DL.

I saw the "Colos" cutoff, and I clicked on because for some reason I thought it would say "Colostomy".

Richard Marx was a lot of fun.

One of his very best was the one he did with Mark Hudson of The Hudson Brothers. Hudson had so many funny stories.

I recently got into this podcast, I agree it's terrific. I love Kliph Nesteroff's book THE COMEDIANS and searching for interviews with him took me to Gottfried's podcast. Nesteroff has done a few episodes and it's great, they all really geek out on minor details of American comedy history.

Did anyone see Gilbert Gottfried on Pyramid this week? He looked like they pulled him off his deathbed. I hadn’t seen him in awhile so it wasn’t shocking he looked older but he looked very gaunt and almost bald. He was wearing pajamas and a robe and didn’t do the walkout at the beginning or when he got to go to the bonus round circle. His mind was clearly not all there and he did terribly at the game. It was awkward and sad to watch and I’m actually surprised they aired it.
Neil Degrasse Tyson was the other celeb and he did terribly too. I wonder if he threw his rounds to try and make Gilbert look not so bad.

The majority of the episodes are great. Entertaining, full of trivia, and a good way to spend an afternoon. I'd never cared much for him, but his interactions with his guests won me over.

Gilbert was on Pyramid last week and he was really frail and old looking. I don't mean to be mean but he is really in OLD MAN territory now. He couldn't even get clues and you could tell his partners were getting pissed. His teammates never made it to the final round and one chick player looked exhausted with him. Video of him from 2 weeks ago. He looks 80.

Thanks, OP. This sounds great. I think GG is an unsung gem, and the media really have raked him over the coals for things.

It is amazing and colossal. I used to hate-love Gilbert on his show in the 1980s. Maybe it was on public access?

I just listened to the Diane Ladd one. She’s loopy, but very listenable. I love her voice.

The Michele Lee one was sort of painful.

I agree, R12, he looked very old & frail on Pyramid. But he did make the final round - the only part of the game I watch - in the 2nd game. And he was just awful in that round. Part of the fun of that game is seeing the hugging that goes on between the winning contestant & the celebrity, but that’s out now due to Covid-2019.

R19, I was surprised at how much her voice has changed. She’s sounds more like an old woman now, which she is of course.

^ I thought she was quite self-aware. She even joked about how she sounded like an old lady.

She sounded like a three-pack-a-day smoker.
