Billie Jean and Johnny Mc were on the Bob Costas reboot Back on the Record on HBO Tonight. I thought they had a great conversation. Check it out if the spirit moves you. Bob’s hair, makeup and lighting is getting sorted.

OK, DL. My trusty old pencil, which I thought I had lost, fell out of my cooch today when I was, well, um, er, playing tennis. Yeah, that's right, I was playing tennis.

With my pencil back in my hands I am back in the game and ready to handicap the already lame field at this year's Open. Other than Genie who am I pencilling in for the semis? Any young, blonde hopefuls in the draw?

On the bright side Serena isn't playing, so I won't have to read about her insane, rabid fans foaming at the mouth and calling me vile names every time I say anything at all about her in the commentary booth.

If Barty is the new Evonne who is the new Martina? Of course you all know there will never be a new Chrissie. I am unique and irreplaceable. People tried to make that annoying brat Tracy and the filthy druggie Jen Cap happen but they could never be the new me.

I needs me a new man, DL. I have been single for too long now. Heck I would even go back to Jimmy if he asked me. Or even Jim Courier, if he weren't so busy with his, er, "mentoring".

by Anonymousreply 2August 28, 2021 8:39 AM

I watched R1. I really love hearing BJK talk. She's so damn smart.

As for the Open? Will only be watching the women's tourney.

Too painful for me to watch the mens.

by Anonymousreply 3August 28, 2021 9:14 AM

Rafanatic, I made the mistake of watching some US Open 8-minute clip on YouTube which showed the number 21, representing Novaxx's quest for 21 as well as the year 2021. It was depressing as hell, especially when they showed a clip of my gorgeous and sexy DelPo from the 2018 final.

by Anonymousreply 4August 28, 2021 9:25 AM

R5, I had forgotten that Grampy Fed hasn't won a US Open title since 2008. That video reminded me that even Gramps' lone Roland Garros title came more recently (2009) than his last US Open win. And sweet, sexy DelPo struck the first blow by denying Gramps in the 2009 US Open final.

by Anonymousreply 7August 28, 2021 11:15 AM

Federer is a very rare case, he was totally dominating the US Open, he won his five titles on a row, then he lost against DelPo and everything went south

by Anonymousreply 8August 28, 2021 11:56 AM

I’ve got BJK’s new autobiography. Has anyone read it yet?

by Anonymousreply 9August 28, 2021 12:21 PM

I fly to NY today. I'll be attending the first two days of the tournament.

by Anonymousreply 10August 28, 2021 1:35 PM

I love BJK but haven’t read it. During Wimbledon, she and Ilana hung out with the three folks who do the Tennis Podcast, and they were describing what a blast they had with BJK and Ilana. The latter is smart and passionate.

I’ve lived in NYC for many years and seen all sorts of stars. My favorite sighting was across from Grand Central when a black car pulled to the side and BJK, in full power suit, stepped out and walked to the hotel alongside me. I was like, whoa!

by Anonymousreply 11August 28, 2021 1:40 PM

Thanks OP

by Anonymousreply 14August 28, 2021 4:37 PM

Begin the Beguine team or Kuntaveit team?

by Anonymousreply 15August 28, 2021 5:35 PM

The BJK autobio is terrific. All fans should read it so they get an idea of what she was up against and how she herself evolved. Stunning to know she is the No 1 player in the would in 67 and can barely make ends meet while being paid “expenses” under the table. She kind to Margaret who come off as just dumb. Great read for anyone but a must for any fan.

by Anonymousreply 16August 28, 2021 5:43 PM

Current female players owe a lot to BJK

by Anonymousreply 17August 28, 2021 5:49 PM

R4, agreed.

I was totally fine with Fed ending up with more Slams than Rafa. Of course, I wanted Rafa to have the most. But the fact that it's whiny, try hard Novak? Ugh.

He is a fantastic player. He's the best. But I hate his game and I hate him. Whereas I very much enjoy Fed's game.

by Anonymousreply 18August 28, 2021 6:37 PM

Svitolina team or Cornet team?

by Anonymousreply 19August 28, 2021 7:06 PM

Cleveland: Kontaveit def. Begu 7-6(5) 6-4 for her 2nd title

Chicago: Svitolina def. Cornet 7-5 6-4 for her 16th title

Winston-Salem: Ivashka def. M. Ymer 6-0 6-2 for his 1st title

by Anonymousreply 20August 28, 2021 10:59 PM

Happy for Svitolina and sad for Ymer, who had a great run until the final. He's always fun to watch and very personable on court, while Ivashka is a surly dick like Zverev or Stakhovsky.

by Anonymousreply 21August 28, 2021 11:52 PM

I like Ivashka and was glad he won. He plays well.

by Anonymousreply 22August 29, 2021 12:34 AM

I was a little shocked by Ymer’s performance. Nerves or was Ivashka just that good?

by Anonymousreply 23August 29, 2021 2:15 AM

I think Ymer just "went off the boil" as Fred Stolle used to say.

by Anonymousreply 24August 29, 2021 4:06 AM

R23 a combo of both. Ivashka maintained his great form and Ymer seemed quite overwhelmed by the occasion, making many mistakes he hadn't earlier in the week.

by Anonymousreply 25August 29, 2021 9:00 AM

My favorite Rafa moment this year was his 35th birthday when the boyfriend made a party for him in his hotel room and there was no indication of a wife. She's so private but she lets his friends stay in their hotel room.

Then, 2 days later, realizing the mistake, he sends out a "Look I'm married" tweet from 2 1/2 years ago.

R29 I remember seeing Novak several years ago in a video with other famous sportsmen speaking against homophobia in sport. Neither Rafa nor Federer were in that video - I remember thinking "at least the third guy joined the campaign". Have Rafa and Federer ever participated in any similar pro LGB campaign?

by Anonymousreply 34August 29, 2021 1:27 PM

R34, Fed is too busy. Admiring himself in the mirror, looking at his trophies, reminding people what a great champion he is and how gracious he is, and hiding Meerkat's food from her.

by Anonymousreply 49August 30, 2021 4:15 AM

[quote] I'm sorry but i fucking hate Osaka. I hope she loses

Don't you worry, R47. No matter how well she plays she won't be getting past the quarters this year because standing in her way will be the legendary and iconic CoCo GOAT, who has shattered records already and written her name in the history books as the greatest player to ever pick up a tennis racket. Well, ok, the second greatest. After Roger, of course.

Osaka and Barry should have just taken a hint from the smart Serena who knew that she didn't want to end up as roadkill on CoCo's inevitable journey towards superstardom. You read it here first.

1/8 Final: C. GOAT bye (Terrified opponents withdrew due to incontinence caused by fear)

1/4 Final: C. GOAT bt. N. Osaka 6/2, 6/2

1/2 Final: C. GOAT bye (See 1/8 Final)

Final: C. GOAT bt. A. Barty 6/0, 6/0

On the men's side the only prediction I am gonna make is this.

First Round: Bye bt N. Djokovic (Djokovic withdrew due to arrogance, presumption and my constant prayers)

by Anonymousreply 50August 30, 2021 8:23 AM

they will close the roof tomorrow night, it's gonna be raining. Daniil Medvedev plays after the Osaka match.

by Anonymousreply 51August 30, 2021 9:12 AM

Osaka got fat too. Bianca Andreescu as well.

And these players have been going out everywhere...I wonder if anyone will get covid. I'm assuming those pictured indoors in bars and clubs are vaccinated coz you're supposed to show proof of vaccination in order to drink/dine indoors.

by Anonymousreply 52August 30, 2021 9:17 AM

Medvedev's attempts to look uber nice and funny because $$$ is disgustingly cringe and 50 times worse than Novaxxx's. He's an asshole who willingly hits the ball at the opponent's face rather than doing a passing shot. Lil Diego saw it right at the ATP Cup. Now his PR team is pushing his "charisma" so strongly to the point that it's annoying af. He's trying too hard - can't stands that now he adds "bro" at the end of sentences like retarded Kyrgios and keeps joking on court like "Oh look how funny I am, BRO! I'm like Novak".

by Anonymousreply 64August 30, 2021 12:59 PM

^I'll be too busy looking around for Papa Tsitipas. Maybe he has a thing for fat whores 30 years past their prime.

I made a mistake, my tickets are for Armstrong so it's Riske vs. Scrabble- It's a board game! Followed by Fritz and de Minaur

Still, a grounds pass is 50 so a courtside ticket for 14 (which includes a grounds pass) is great bargain.

by Anonymousreply 65August 30, 2021 12:59 PM

I have few questions about ground pass in US open

1. A Ground pass ticket holder can watch all the match outside main three show courts(Aruther Ashe, Armstrong and Grandstand) for both day and night session.?

2. An Arthur Ashe ticket holder with a ticket for the day session can also watch matches for night session. on outside courts?

by Anonymousreply 66August 30, 2021 3:20 PM

1 -- you can stay for all matches deemed 'day matches' I believe, however long they go. Early on, some may go till 10 pm or so. Armstrong and Grandstand had (as of two years ago) unreserved seating available for ground pass ticket holders.

2 -- ibid

Poor Peter Gojowczyk having an on-going battle with the Umpire about the pronunciation of his name. Still raging at each change of ends into the second set. The UGOAT remains unbothered and above the fray so far.

There have been 2 last minute withdrawals by Ostapenko and Jen Brady. Brady was supposed to play the WTA's new darling Emma Raducanu, who will face lucky loser Stefanie Voegele instead

by Anonymousreply 69August 30, 2021 4:05 PM

tennis players have terrible autographs, I suppose they make it really small so they can fit it onto a tennis ball. Most of them only have like a little scribble, very disappointing.

by Anonymousreply 74August 30, 2021 4:48 PM

Feliciano’s first marriage lasted 11 months before they separated. That’s either a lame attempt at making it work or someone had a wandering eye, hand or dick.

by Anonymousreply 75August 30, 2021 4:53 PM

R68 Ugoat has an incredibly easy draw but he still is able to manage to lose on the first round. That guy has no blood in the veins he is an incredibly waste of talent.

Felix has a good draw too but he is having some trouble with Donskoy (but unlike Ugo he is not on the verge of elimination)

by Anonymousreply 77August 30, 2021 5:04 PM

R76 I'm very frustrated with the UGOAT. First Slam in a while where he hasn't drawn ruddy showboater Kygrios and has a relatively easy first round draw and he's blowing it big time.

by Anonymousreply 78August 30, 2021 5:08 PM

Well, at least he has a little reaction it's not everything lost yet

by Anonymousreply 79August 30, 2021 5:13 PM

r67 yes. For example right now there are 12 dollar tickets on top level/awful seats for Novax/Ruined, But you can enter the grounds at any time.

I'm most excited to watch some practice sessions which are now posted online in advance. Usually, it's a crap shoot.

Trust me, half the people that have tickets (80 percent corporate) only want to see Fedal/Krygios/Williams or be on TV or have bragging rights to "the hottest ticket in NY" Posers. They'll dump their tickets for 20 bucks at the last minute. Real tennis fans can get great deals especially on off nights/bad weather.

The biggest problem is finding the right caftan that can take the afternoon sun and survive the pm wind and cold and attract a silver-foxed Greek.

Tsitsipas takes a break when he loses a set. Murray will surely be quite vocal if it happens to him lol

by Anonymousreply 120August 30, 2021 7:15 PM

wow, Murray is trashing Tsitsipas in the first set. Not what i was expecting

by Anonymousreply 121August 30, 2021 7:18 PM

r81- Every year is different. Grounds Passes usually sell out and cheap tickets can be hard to find. This is a weird year and stub- hub has changed the game .

Here's what I'll do. I have courtside at Armstrong at 7. I'll buy a nosebleed seat for Novaxx. I'll go early and I'll put on my best caftan and earrings. At 7 I'll sit seductively at the fountain, watch the big screen and drink a 14 dollar plastic cup of chardonnay and when Novaxx wins the first set I'll go in the stadium but not to my seat. I'll wait near the exit for a drunk/cold/corporate drone or Novaxx hater coming from the "good seats". I'll smile, flash some cleavage and ask them if I can have their ticket. I'll have a 20 to slip in their pocket or even offer to buy them a drink before they leave. If I'm lucky I won't even see the rest of the match.

If I told you the real stories of how some of these evening ended up you'd all accuse of me of ETS- Elaborate Tennis Scenarios.

by Anonymousreply 122August 30, 2021 7:22 PM

some of these are not sold out, you can go late and move down...

Servebot Isner out. Good.

Tsitsipas has the worst shot selection. He's way too up and down during a match. He's really capable of delivering some stinkers for sets to lose them. Murray is very dangerous. I figured as smart and tactical Murray is, this would be tough for Tsitsy since he's no scholar.

Fans wait in line for hours at US Open after COVID vaccine mandate

Tennis fans were left waiting in massive lines for up to two hours Monday trying to get into the US Open — amid a mandate instituted just last week requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

The tournament in Flushing Meadows, Queens, officially began at 11 a.m., but by close to 1:30 p.m., thousands were still waiting to show their COVID-19 vaccination cards and go through metal detectors in order to get into Arthur Ashe Stadium — with some fans missing matches because of it.

“Somebody screwed up,” Yonkers hairstylist Helen W., 59, told The Post.

She and her two daughters waited at the East Gate for nearly an hour as the line “hardly moved” before they were directed to the South Gate around noon, “where the line stretched a ridiculously long way!”

“A little over 45 minutes on that line, and we are finally are getting in after missing the first two hours,” she fumed. “Something went wrong!”

One tweeter — responding to the US Open posting footage of the match between players Kristina Kucova and Ann Li — wrote, “Sadly missing because of this insane line.”

At the South Gate, around 12:30 p.m., the line of some 5,000 fans stretched about a quarter-mile, past the Unisphere. About 3,000 fans stood before the East Gate, in a line going back roughly 300 yards around the same time.

Staffers were alerting ticket-holders to have their vax cards and bags handy when they finally reached the front of the queue.

“It was never this bad,” said Brian Schopenhauer, a 44-year-old jeweler from Connecticut.

While one of his buddies got to the stadium early and breezed through security when the gates opened around 9:30 a.m., Schopenhauer and scores of others weren’t as lucky.

“At 10:30 a.m., it was like a cattle call,” the fan said. “A big crowd at the main entrance and everyone pushing for the [East] gate.

“We all milled around for over an hour before they started getting organized,” sending some of the group to the South Gate, he added, noting that it still took him more than a half-hour to reach the metal detectors.

By around 2 p.m., the lines were easing up — after more staffers were put on to man the entry checkpoints.

The US Open is the first tennis tournament to go full capacity since the pandemic.

The USTA on Friday announced that only vaccinated fans with documentation will be allowed into Flushing Meadows despite tickets going on sale two months ago with no restrictions.

The organization, in a statement Monday, partly blamed the long waits at the gates on fans bringing “an inordinate number of bags this year” and crowds arriving “later than they generally have in the past.” The agency claimed the slowdown mostly affected the bag-check area.

“The USTA is exploring ways to improve this process to ensure quicker entry for the remainder of the tournament,” the statement said. “The process to check proof of vaccination seems to be working smoothly and is not a major contributor hampering entrance to the site.”

Murray is such a sore loser. He and Cheatipas truly deserve each other.

by Anonymousreply 177August 31, 2021 6:15 AM

Misery isn't exactly the paragon of sportsmanship either. The cunt grunts and moans after every shot as though he is lifting 200 tonnes. This bitch was moaning after hitting frickin slice backhands during a match in Cincinnati. It is clearly gamesmanship and an attempt to distract the opponent, so the nasty Misery can just shut the fuck up about how others are cheating.

by Anonymousreply 178August 31, 2021 6:21 AM

Stefanos Cheatstipas

by Anonymousreply 179August 31, 2021 6:23 AM

Cheatsipas is also a staunch anti-vaxxer and that really turned me off even harder.

Murray trashed him during his post match interview and said he’d lost respect for him.

Funny how quickly our formerly beloved Tsitsi has traveled the DL with most DLers proclaiming love or lust or both and he is now targeted as an object of scorn and shade. Not undeservedly. But man you can fall quickly around here. Not undeservedly.

I've said in other threads and will say again the USO has the BEST highlights of all the slams by far! Just go onto the scheduled play and you can find highlights for almost every match day 1. Night session matches aren't on yet but almost every day session, even on more obscure courts are there. None of the other slams come close

the night matches on day 1 were bad. The day session had so many quality matches.

by Anonymousreply 182August 31, 2021 8:28 AM

Tsitsipas beat Murray fair and square in a thrilling match. Murray should stop being such a sore loser and stop making unfounded insinuations. This will not age well.

by Anonymousreply 183August 31, 2021 8:34 AM

R180, Tsitsipas is not a "staunch anti-vaxxer", he has simply said he does not want to take the vaccine himself. I disagree with his position, but he's not campaigning against the vaccine and trying to dissuade people from being vaccinated. This is just his own personal decision, he's not trying to impose it on anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 184August 31, 2021 8:36 AM

R171, if you'd actually watched the match you'd know he played brilliantly and absolutely deserved to win. So, no boos at all for an amazing victory.

by Anonymousreply 185August 31, 2021 8:38 AM

lmao Murray's post-match interview

the press kept asking about the bathroom breaks. Even when they moved on to other topics the final question was back on it again. Murray clearly isn't a fan

by Anonymousreply 186August 31, 2021 8:41 AM

Tsitsipas post match response: I've done nothing wrong

he also denies the accusation Zverev made in Cincinnati that he was texting with daddy in the bathroom saying it takes a real imagination to come up with something like that

this is going to be a very rough tournament for Tsitsipas unless he wins all his matches in straight sets. All the opponents are going to be on the umpires about it and the press will ask over and over again in the press conferences

by Anonymousreply 187August 31, 2021 8:47 AM

I think they need to tighten up on the rules .One 5 minutes off court break max for a 3 set match, 1 additional 5 minute break if a match goes over 3 sets. Points lost for any mid-game breaks taken?

by Anonymousreply 188August 31, 2021 8:54 AM

I'm presuming r187 didn't actually watch the match because there's no way anyone who saw it would imply that Tsitsipas is not the deserved winner. The only people who might give Tsitsipas a rough time are those who haven't watched his matches.

by Anonymousreply 189August 31, 2021 9:02 AM

R188, that's pretty much how it was in the Tsitsipas-Murray match. Two toilet breaks in a 5-set game, both during the breaks/before the start of a set, the second 7 minutes long (just 2 minutes more than 5), all within the rules.

by Anonymousreply 190August 31, 2021 9:05 AM

R189 you presume wrong but I'm going to presume you're being overly defensive of Tsitsipas.

No one is saying he didn't deserve to win the match. What is off-putting to a lot of players and fans is his tactic this year of long bathroom breaks whenever he loses a set. If he loses more sets in this tournament and keeps taking long bathroom breaks, the other players will get annoyed and the press will hone in on the topic. That's all there is to it.

by Anonymousreply 191August 31, 2021 9:09 AM

Not overly defensive of Tsitsipas r191, just fed up with the bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 192August 31, 2021 9:20 AM

I doubt that when someone is sweating gallons they need a toilet break. It’s sportsmanship. It’s designed to throw your opponent off. Until the tennis authorities deal with it the likes of Titsipas will use it.

by Anonymousreply 193August 31, 2021 10:02 AM

Lol, the one who whined and made a big deal out of sweating yet stupidly only had one pair of shoes with him was Murray. Maybe Tsitsipas just wanted a shit.

Funny how Murray never learnt from the time when he had to send someone to his house in the middle of a Wimbledon final to get him a spare pair of shoes.

Kyrgios got bageled in the third? Did he just tank?

by Anonymousreply 202August 31, 2021 12:46 PM

Shitsipas certainly has some conveniently timed bouts of peristalsis if those breaks are so frequently necessary. Maybe being down in a match brings on a case of Athens trots. At the very least he should leave his cell phone(s) with the umpire and show his empty pockets if he wants to quiet the naysayers. But of course he won't because...άπληστος απατεώνας

by Anonymousreply 203August 31, 2021 1:17 PM

Murray played much better than I ever thought him capable.

by Anonymousreply 204August 31, 2021 2:40 PM

Nick was such a disappointment. He's more interested in his stupid Nintendo games.

He was having a meltdown about having to walk side to side to get the towels.

by Anonymousreply 205August 31, 2021 3:06 PM

But Kyrgios’s biggest gripe was the placement of the towels inside the vast Louis Armstrong Stadium, and needing to walk “too many steps” to wipe down as he sweated profusely in the stifling midnight heat on Monday.

The global pandemic has led to officials no longer allowing ball people to handle players’ towels, prompting Kyrgios to rant and rave with chair umpire Carlos Bernardes after receiving a code violation for exceeding the shot clock between points.

“So I have to walk back to the box to wipe my arms because I’m sweating and I get a time violation but someone can go to the bathroom for 20 minutes and it’s OK? Explain it to me. It doesn’t make any fucking sense,” Kyrgios said.

“My job is to come out here and play, for the people. Not to walk back and forth to my towel. It’s not my job. It’s my towel. I should be able to put it wherever I like on the court, really.”

When Bernados interjected to remind Kyrgios that “it’s part of the game”, the hot-head erupted.

“It’s not part of the game,” Kyrgios said. “So texting someone’s part of the game, too? Taking 20-minute bathroom breaks is part of the game? That’s part of the game. Everything’s part of the game. I need to take a shit. Ah, part of the game. It’s fucking stupid.”

Despite pulling out of his last event with a knee injury, Kyrgios had started the match promisingly enough. Displaying an unusually steely focus, he dug in to put Bautista Agut through an eight-minute opening service game.

He was unable to break but, mixing explosive forehands with exquisite drop shots, Kyrgios had the former Wimbledon semi-finalist under the gun. Alas, he dropped serve for the first time immediately after his first changeover exchange with the umpire.

After conceding the first set, Kyrgios began muttering about the speed of the court and “playing at fucking midnight”.

The Australian inevitably dropped serve again early in the second set before receiving a second official warning for belting a ball into the stands in the first game of the third.

No r199, he didn't take his phone into the toilet with him. He went off court empty-handed and chaperoned.

by Anonymousreply 207August 31, 2021 3:10 PM

Discussing his exit from the US Open, Kyrgios took nothing away from his Spanish opponent.

"I just got outplayed, to be honest," Kyrgios said.

"All credit to him; he's a hell of a player. I had a break point in the first set, unfortunately I didn't take it, and little things like that can turn a match when you play a world-class player like Roberto."

by Anonymousreply 208August 31, 2021 3:11 PM

He was using tactics to delay the game, ruin his opponent's momentum.

by Anonymousreply 209August 31, 2021 3:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 211August 31, 2021 3:14 PM

Nick got pissed at his own people too.

With the opening set slipping from his racquet, Kyrgios turned on his team.

“You’re the only two in here wearing a mask. I’m f**king looking at you and all I see is a mask. I can’t even understand what you’re saying,” he said.

“How the f**k am I supposed to understand what you’re both saying when I’m down that end and you’re wearing a f**king mask. Like, use your brain.”

by Anonymousreply 212August 31, 2021 3:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 213August 31, 2021 3:20 PM

I will become a lifelong fan of anyone who manages to deny Novaxx this win.

I hate Kyrgios with the heat of a thousand suns and it was great watching him implode and lose big like the big loser he is. What a horrible person. Has he noticed that everyone else is walking over to get their towels as well? I don't know why people were cheering him on and pretty much ignoring RBA.

by Anonymousreply 218August 31, 2021 3:24 PM

In an interview with Greece’s SDNA, the world No 3 gave a detailed explanation for his decision, saying: “I am young, I am in the under-25 category.

“For me, the vaccine has not been tested enough, it is new. It has some side effects, I personally know some people who have had them.

“I’m not against clarifying this, I just see no reason for someone in my age group to need to be vaccinated. I think the concept was to be given to older people, if I’m not mistaken.

“It is not something we know too much about and so far it has not been given to us as a must on the tour. So there is no reason. I did not say anything strange. Everyone has their own point of view. If it is to play it diplomats and not be able to express our views on something specific, what is the reason for doing these interviews.”

The ATP has so far only advised and encouraged players to take the vaccine and Tsitsipas insists he will cross that bridge when he gets there, but believes it is “good to pass the virus and build immunity”.

“Everyone has the right to decide what they want to do. If you want to protect yourself with the vaccine, your problem, go and do it,” he said. “For us young people, I think it is good to pass the virus, because we will build immunity. I do not see it as something bad.

“As I said, it is not obligatory, everyone has the freedom to decide for themselves what is right and what is not. At some point we should all do it, I’m not saying the opposite. The time will come when we will not be given many options, but until then I want to see a better version of the vaccine that gives us more pluses than minuses.”

by Anonymousreply 219August 31, 2021 3:25 PM

Kyrgios is an amazing talent but he's nuts. That sorta holds him back.

by Anonymousreply 220August 31, 2021 3:26 PM

If there is a will, there is a way. He could have hid the phone in a towel and grab that from his locker and go into the toilet. Of course, too much scrutiny on his dad now but he could have lined up another coach who is watching on TV elsewhere?

Who the fuck knows. The damage is done. He's lost a lot of fans. I'm one of them.

Stefanos Tsitsipas: Covid-19 Vaccine Not Been Tested Enough

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who rocked the tennis world earlier in the week with his admission that he has not received the vaccine, said on Wednesday that although he is not against the shot, he believes it has not been tested enough.

Speaking after his win against American Sebastian Korda for the round of 32 at the Cincinnati Masters, Tsitsipas said that he sees no reason for vaccination, especially for young people.

“I am young, I am in the under-25 category. For me the vaccine has not been tested enough, it is new. It has some side effects, I personally know some people who have had them. I want to clarify, I’m not against it. I just see no reason that someone in my age group needs to be vaccinated,” the world number three opined.

“Everyone has the right to do what they think is right. No one can force you to vaccinate. Everyone has the right to decide what they want to do. If you want to protect yourself with the vaccine, your problem, go and do it. For us young people, I think it is good to pass the virus, because we will build immunity,” he added.

He also expressed frustration at journalists’ questions on the subject.

“Everyone has their own point of view. If it is to play diplomats and not be able to express our views on something specific, what is the reason for doing these interviews?” he said.

His admission earlier in the week that he hasn’t even received his first dose of a vaccine and is waiting for it to be mandated for all players on tour, caused strong reactions in Greece and the tennis world.

Tsitsipas was the face of Greece’s “Stay Home” campaign last year as Covid-19 was spreading at its peak.

Adonis Georgiadis, the Greek Minister for Development and Investment, said he has “saddened” by the announcement.

“Tsitsipas is a model athlete whose thoughts and behavior affects a lot of people,” Georgiadis noted.

Leading tennis coach Brad Gilbert labelled Tsitsipas’ stance on the vaccine “very selfish.” Grand Slam winners Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have expressed the importance of vaccination in the fight to get out of the pandemic.

“The only way out of this nightmare is vaccination. Our responsibility as human beings is to accept it,” Nadal said.

“I know there is a percentage of people who will suffer from side effects, but the effects of the virus are worse.”

R214, still think I'm making it up?

by Anonymousreply 223August 31, 2021 3:34 PM

What blows my mind is that these people are almost certainly taking PEDs but a vaccine is beyond them.

by Anonymousreply 224August 31, 2021 3:40 PM

Hmmm, what are the contraindications for PEDS and the COVID vaccine?

by Anonymousreply 225August 31, 2021 3:49 PM

Absolutely r223. The articles you posted make no reference to your complete lie at r211, where you lied and said that Tsitsipas said that young people "should get the virus, they would then have immunity. He actually said he wanted to get covid"

He never said young people should get Covid and he never said he wanted to get Covid. You're a liar.

by Anonymousreply 226August 31, 2021 3:59 PM

R221, he didn't have a towel, he was chaperoned and observed, he didn't text anyone, he didn't text his dad.

by Anonymousreply 227August 31, 2021 4:00 PM

R226, you can't read between the lines? He didn't think it would be a bad thing if you got the covid.

by Anonymousreply 228August 31, 2021 4:00 PM

zverev's match is next!

by Anonymousreply 229August 31, 2021 4:01 PM

R227, there are towels INSIDE the locker room, he has a locker in the locker room, he could have placed a phone inside there, gone there to get it?! Omg, so fucking dumb. I'm done arguing with you cunts.

My point is, if you want to cheat, you can find a way.

by Anonymousreply 230August 31, 2021 4:03 PM

R226, “For us young people, I think it is good to pass the virus, because we will build immunity. I do not see it as something bad.

This statement here says it all, he thinks it's good for young folks to get the virus, they will build immunity. He thinks they getting covid would be good coz they will build immunity. including himself.

except the young fat cunts who have all kinds of medical issues will probably get very sick and be hospitalized or maybe even die from covid.

During Murray/Tsitipas match I was watching hirsute, Argentine, journeyman Trungelliti d. 29th seed Fokina Davidovich in 5 sets.

Trungelliti dressed in whimsical shirts stayed focused while FD sped up/slowed down/called for trainer and got treatment on match point for cramps.

Trungelliti was the whistleblower who reported match fixing a couple of years ago and was then ostracized for it.

ESPN kinda sucks this year. Last year they would allow you to view a couple of the outer courts on the app without subscribing to ESPN+. Now you can't view anything but the national broadcast without subscribing. Major bummer.

by Anonymousreply 240August 31, 2021 5:08 PM

Um, I like won last night. And um I like gave a little girl an um pin. She was like um so cute.

by Anonymousreply 241August 31, 2021 5:11 PM

That pin giveaway was so staged, the little girl had credentials for the fucking act.

I can't believe Osaka is continuing to speak in that fake soft voice in press conferences.

Oh she's so sensitive, there was a moth that flew onto the court and she didn't want the ball girl to kill it, but it was killed...awww she's so sensitive and authentic said the fraus at ESPN this morning...

they are really trying hard to help their cash cow.

by Anonymousreply 242August 31, 2021 5:19 PM

yes, I think you have to subscribe to ESPN plus now. They have all the la liga matches on there too. it sucks but if you watch soccer, it might be worth it.

by Anonymousreply 245August 31, 2021 5:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 246August 31, 2021 5:34 PM

Even during the Osaka love fest last night Chrissie still had time to talk about Coco.

by Anonymousreply 247August 31, 2021 5:41 PM

I giggle at all the Mary Jo Fernandez gushing about Coco here, but last night I actually paid attention. Those posters here aren’t kidding - she may as well have her tongue up Coco’s back gash.

by Anonymousreply 248August 31, 2021 5:44 PM

Also it took Hubie about as much time to down his first round opponent as one of GC's bathroom break lasts, R246.

by Anonymousreply 249August 31, 2021 6:25 PM

Jesus can’t even read the tennis board at dL anymore without it becoming political and a vaccination discussion. Chill sis - people have different points of view. Survival Rate in general population is 99% whether you are vaccinated or not. If you are a young 20s professional athlete I’d say you are pretty much safe to take your chance if you’d prefer natural immunity. Who fucking cares. Live and let live.

by Anonymousreply 250August 31, 2021 6:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 253August 31, 2021 7:05 PM

There are some tiresome discussions and lame, overused jokes (Chrissie and Euginie, Margaret Court, etc.), but for the folks on here who actually talk tennis, it's still an interesting board, except for the extreme haters. I mean, we all have players we prefer or we don't, but some people are rabid haters who seem to need meds or intense therapy.

As for talking tennis, the Murray-Tsitsipas match was very high quality. I couldn't believe the pundits who were saying Tsitsy in three. I figured Murray, who is a tactician, would give Tsitsipas fits and he did. Tsitsy has all the talent, but he's not much of a thinker out there and seems to figure out ways to lose, not win. His recent loss to Zverev in Cincy was very disappointing and part of a trend. Murray really channeled some of his old form, which was nice to see, but I was happy to see a younger guy win. Most tennis fans are dying to see the new blood start winning and taking their place at the Grand Slam table. I don't see any of them dominating or winning anywhere near 20 Slams, but Federer-Nadal-Djokovic are anomalies. I'm glad to have watched the era of the Big 3, but I'd be happy to see it end. It's gone on too long.

by Anonymousreply 254August 31, 2021 7:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 258August 31, 2021 7:12 PM

I heard James Blake said Tiafoe took a bathroom break too, but he only needed less than 2 min to change his clothes. You don't need 8 min. He was abusing the rules. Cheating is if he used the phone but I doubt he would risk doing it at a grand slam.

Alison Van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen are out. they are dating. both from Belgium.

by Anonymousreply 267August 31, 2021 7:43 PM

R254, the Big 3 era ended a couple of years ago with Federer's Wimbledon loss in the finals. With Fed past 40 and Nadal injured and past 35, I think that we can safely say that era's not coming back. It was nice to see a resurgent Murray for a couple of sets. The old guard is quickly disappearing and only a hand's count of players over 34 are left in the draw, barely into the second round. Of those few we'll probably only see Novaxx make it far, though dark horse wild cards Monfils and Fog still can't be counted out.

It's nice to see new blood, but not new brats. Zverev, Medvedev and Tsitsipas expect their bad behavior to be ignored, but I'm not having it. We haven't seen that collective level of boorishness on tour among top 5 players since the days of Nastase, Connors and McEnroe. And it was great to see those 3 eventually gone.

by Anonymousreply 268August 31, 2021 7:44 PM

It's quite a big thing for Murray to speak out, as a senior pro and one who is generally well-respected and liked by other pros (even Djokovic). I suspect he is deliberately speaking for a lot of other players in calling Tsitsi out.

by Anonymousreply 277August 31, 2021 8:21 PM

I disagree with you, R268, about the Big 3 era ending at Wimbledon with Federer's loss in 2019. Who beat Federer? Nadal. Who won the US Open in 2019? Nadal. 2020 Australian? Djokovic won, going through Federer in the semis then Thiem in the final. 2020 French? Nadal won over Djokovic in the final (Fed didn't play). 2020 US Open? No Nadal, no Fed, Djokovic defaulted. That opened the door for one of the worst finals I've ever watched. Zverev and Thiem couldn't figure out which one of the two wanted to LOSE the match more.

2021 Australian? Only Djokovic in the semis from the Big 3--Fed didn't play, Nadal lost to Tsitsy in the quarterfinals. French Open 2021? Djokovic goes through Nadal in the semis to win the title over Tsitsy. Then Djokovic is the only one of the Big 3 at Wimbledon, but he wins it. Still the Big 3 winning unless they're not there. Not surprising, though. I've thought for a couple years that it would take injuries to take down the Big 3. Nadal and Federer have already succumbed. Djokovic had an elbow injury a few years ago that set him back. Something else will come up next for Djoker, I'm sure. I don't think this new generation can take down even the last remaining Big 3 without help of age/injury.

by Anonymousreply 278August 31, 2021 8:38 PM

We agree that 2 of the big 3 have conceded to age and injury, R278. Even (debatably with his 2019 loss in the USO quarters) conceding that the big 3 lasted until Fed had to go out last year for knee surgery, it's certainly over now. And I think that the 2020 FO was the last Slam championship for Nadal, who's closer to 40 than 30 now and has put his body through the wringer. Speculating about who would have won had they all been healthy and present is as speculative as the debate about how much longer Seles would have dominated if not for misfortune.

I agree. In fact she is sure to win the title, so they might as well just declare her the winner and give her the trophy.

On the men's side I think they should do what everyone thinks is right and name Roger the winner. So what if he isn't actually playing? Slams are about more than just winning. He has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes him the greatest of all time and that should be recognized by giving him the Open title this year.

What's the deal with Ymer? Seems to be quite the little bitch. Is he normally this way?

K. Hemsworth?

Vanilla Popsicle comes back from 2 sets down to beat Fognini. Pathetic loss for Fabio. Popsicle is so slow.

Ymer is normally very laid back and stoic, R331. I stopped watching early on when he fell behind Brooksby. What happened?

by Anonymousreply 334September 1, 2021 12:46 AM

Ymer smashed his racket which injured himself. He then stopped playing and was given a time violation. He then started arguing with the chair and recieved a point penalty for another time violation and then another time violation which resulted in a game penalty. He then argued with the supervisor. Almost defaulted. Heavy booing from the crowd.

Good lord theose rolex commercial are so utterly pretentious and cringeworthy. I cannot abide the narrator. Please make them stop!

Kid is cramping, it's not even that hot.

Was shocked when I put on the Brooksby/Ymer match and Ymer was pouting and refusing to play. I really thought he was about to be defaulted.

PCB losing was a shock! Cressy though - those legs! Funny seeing Pablo smash his racquet. I remember that scene a few years back when he went full psycho and threw his entire bag across the court. He’s normally so mild mannered. Lol

Who is that hot silver-daddy they keep showing? Rune's coach? Rune's dad? Step aside Mr. Tsitsipas.

by Anonymousreply 339September 1, 2021 1:33 AM

R339 That's Rune's coach Lars Christensen. During the quallies the commentators were joking about his stoicism compared to his mom's cheerleader vibe.
