Infomercials- What is the first infomercial that pops in your head?
And did you like any of them?
When I was a kid there was an infomercial that would come on every night for a few months that I was obsessed with. It was “The Fabulous 50s” CD collection, and they would play clips of tons of 1950s songs on the CDs. I loved it!!! I’ve always been into music, and that introduced me to artists I never heard prior.
It was hosted by Regis Philbin.
I always wanted the set but my mom wouldn’t buy it for me lol.
It was in 1998/1999. I remember.

I don't want to remember it, but QRB. I know not to use it on any good wood pieces but the process of stripping or 'wiping' off old paint, discolored varnis, etc. made it look SO satisfying to refinish furniture.

There was one I was obsessed with in the early ‘90s Sounds of the ‘70s, I believe it was, hosted by Rex Smith. I begged my parents to get me the tape set, but I never got it. I also thought Rex Smith was so cute.

I feel like the 90’s was when the genre really exploded. Late night TV they were playing non-stop on many channels. Some were so compellingly weird, they were preferable to actual programming!

The Magic Bullett infomercial is the Citizen Kane of infomercials; just majestic. The other great one was the Jack and Elaine Lalane juicer infomercial.

My mom once bought a set of wire hair-styling tools at the mall, from some frau with a card table. They were foot-long pieces of bendable wire, wrapped in heavy scrunchy-like material, that a woman could use to make all kinds of up-dos and bobs. They came with an instructional VHS on how to make 101 different styles, and the video was clearly made in the woman's home bathroom for about four bucks.
I've seen Czech snuff films with better production value!

My mother always believed those handy infomercials. I used to get mad. There was one that promoted this piece of clay that they claimed could lift anything when hardened.

NADS.
Rofl.
It was this disgusting, goopy hair removal wax.
I tried it once. What a fucking mess!!!
And "NADS" was short for the owner Nadine, but I always thought of NADS like balls or testicles.

I still remember the first time I saw Cathy Mitchell. It was when she introduced the Snackmaster in 1990. She was a little more basic-looking then. Of course, she would go on to introduce us to so many fine products in the years to come.

R15 If you Google “magic bullet infomercial” there are numerous articles written about how hypnotic and surreal those commercials are. There were several of them, all centered around the same weird couple. Each one has them visited by a different set of weird friends.

Here’s a different Magic Bullet infomercial. I love how their “guests” start attacking and berating them for not having any food prepared the moment they wander in. And they just seem to walk into the kitchen unannounced. Was the front door left unlocked?
