There are at least 25 plastic surgery disaster stories for every one that manages to preserve some version of the patient's original appearance.

But just like it used to be a convention for people to wear makeup with arsenic and corsets so tight women would pass out when surprised, people today see disfigurement as an improvement upon looking aged.

Most of the women of the Beverly Hills Housewives look to me like they should be in a book of medical anomalies: Lisa Rinna and her tumorous lips, Taylor Armstrong, Adrienne Maloof, Lisa Vanderpump, Camille Grammer, Brandi Glanville, Kathy Hilton, who looks freakishly like Caitlyn Jenner.

I guess Kyle Richards is the exception who proves the rule at this point, but I suspect it's only a matter of time. Her husband's mother is a plastic surgery freakshow, and that was celebrated on the show.

Sutton Foster hasn't tried to rearrange her face to look like a beauty pageant contestant and she is all the better for it, and Kim Richards may have addiction and behavioral issues, but she has allowed herself to age and she looks more human than the rest of them. I'm sure the Beverly Hills women think Kim looks "old" compared to them, but to me she just looks more human. The other women look like they are in their 50s and 60s, just with disfigured faces. One day, people will look back on photos and video footage in horror and wonder what kind of culture this was, with people paying medical doctors to cut them up and make them look like they had been in accidents with infections puffing up their faces.

I think the reason people use the term "old broad" is because people's bodies broaden and get bulkier and less elegant looking as we get older.

You can easily guess what decade of life anyone is in when you see their body, even in cases of women who starve themselves and have fat sucked out. They get blockier over time.

There's no way to win a war against time. A surgically altered head on top of an old person body may make people say, "you look amazing!" but while they are saying that, they are thinking, "the poor thing."

No matter how good the work is, when I see it, I don't think someone with plastic surgery looks good. My first and overall impression is always you look like someone with plastic surgery.

She chose to look different to look like a different person with more conventional features. People like Meg Ryan et al. obviously were trying to preserve their youth, which is a different goal. Michael Jackson was a handsome black man with a very broad nose he was self-conscious about, and he wanted to look like a classically beautiful white woman; Michelle Pfeiffer is a classically beautiful white woman who wants to preserve her beauty without mutilating herself; Nicole Kidman was a pretty woman who ended up mutilating herself in an attempt to preserve her beauty. She's one or two surgeries away from Michael Jackson territory.

MJ should have stopped with the surgeries by Thriller. Just keep that look.

R35 I don't think he could have stopped with his nose after Thriller. He had already had it severely sliced and diced, and I remember rumors from my early childhood in the mid-80s that his nose had collapsed because he had surgery that damaged the underlying structure. Sure enough, within a few years, he only had a little pyramid stuck to his face with no bridge at all. I think the damage had been done prior to Thriller. He was born with a *very* broad nose and I don't think he had the structure to support the little Northwest European-type turned up button nose he was going for.

Plastic surgery seems more obvious on women who have a more delicate, soft “pretty” look - Jessica Lange, Nicole Kidman, Meg Ryan, etc. It’s like they don’t have the facial architecture / bone structure that more “striking” beauties do, which lets them get skin pulled or tweaked and still retain their familiar face shape.

I can't wait for Ivana's genes to push their way up to the surface past the surgeries Ivana has had done. It's only a matter of time.

The only thing I can appreciate about Melania is that her surgeries have worked well for her and within the decade, she'll be able to sneer at Ivanka knowing she won the beauty war and that even Ivanka's own father wouldn't fuck her anymore.

Al Pacino got a facelift at some point in the early 2000s and started looking like total shit after - he looked fine, if his age (60) in The Insider, but after the facelift his face looks vaguely melted now. Faye Dunaway is another person who did not at all need work done and looks like a mess because of it now.

Bradley Cooper and Zac Efron must have the same plastic surgeon because they are starting to look alike.

Demi Moore's recent surgery is pretty disastrous.

Gwen Stefani was doing well until her most recent facelift/chin implant. The implant is far too square and throws the whole proportions of her face off-balance, and she's starting to have that frozen plastic look people get after too many surgeries.

R53 - It's one of the most common rhinoplasty jobs - Marilyn Monroe had it done, as well - just lifting the end of a slightly bulbous nose and making it a little thinner. Opens up needed space between the end of the nose and the upper lip, and makes a huge difference in how the face photographs.

Yeah, Megan’s nose is very commonly done, and hers didn’t need extreme work like Janet or MJ, which is why their noses look/looked like shit.

Meghan is half-white and her nose was slimmer than the Jackson's to begin with. The Jacksons all made the mistake of trying to make their noses look traditionally caucasian instead of simply having them shaped a bit. It wasn't like the public was going to forget they're black.

Two reporters on local television news have had some work done recently. It is very noticeable. Each took a vacation and now they have plastic surgeries which did not go well.

The woman's cheeks have fallen down her face and she looks older! The man's face is pulled up so tight the skin just outside his eyebrows looks like big scars (which it is).

Neither look fully human now, and they were beautiful people before the surgeries.

I just don't get the rationale when people have seen other people's surgeries that didn't work and assume it will not happen to them when they go under the knife.

MJ did look pretty around the time of “Do you Remember the Time.” Thereafter things went to pot rapidly. I think at times MJ was more of a Trans and wanted a very female look (see attached pic), but then would maybe get criticized by his Mom and try to butch up. He had a dreadful square chin implant installed at the time of his death. That coupled with his penchant for harsh, garish make-up and those terrible wigs at the end were hideous.

I just don't get how they train doctors who go into plastic surgery biz, or what their facelift playbooks look like or why they'd follow them. Why would they knowingly and willingly go into all these surgeries with the deliberate intents of:

-Make indented line to sides of face from end of lips -Inflate both lips like a huge plastic "kiss" innertube that you could see from space -Life up eyes from outer edges so they are more vertically oriented than Cruella deVille's -Reduce nose width to .0000002 cm

I was recently watching some reruns of Friends from the early seasons and Cox's face was truly beautiful. I don't think I realized it at the time, plus Aniston got all the hype, but Courtney was the true beauty on that show.

Courtney wasn't a natural at comedy (hence the fat suit etc.) and she'd mostly failed as a leading lady in the movies. Anniston was practically an unknown (Leprechaun 2, anyone?). She was a fresh, comic discovery.

I feel sorry for all the poor schmucks who get tricked into the plastics.

Some of us go a lifetime without any alterations. But I shouldn't be so condemning, either. Some of us tend not to show our age at all and remain dewy 20-somethings for eternity, while others are sadly forced to do battle with Father Time.

It just shows we don't look at women's faces. We look at their hair, their makeup and their bodies. Their doctors can do a lot of real damage and cover it up in a lot of cases. One major deal breaker is the duck mouths, though. Just as there's no way to mask a big honkin' nose with makeup, there's no way to camouflaged a fucked up mouth.

Burnett got lower jaw surgery in 1982/83 to correct her bite after the chin implant in the '70s.

The general rule is to use plastic surgery to preserve, not enhance or change. When someone's been in the public eye for 10/20 years with one type of nose and they suddenly reappear with a much smaller nose and new cheeks and higher cheekbones, people will notice and it usually destroys what people found so alluring about the person in the first place.

Zac Efron is a great example. This was a kid who was born with natural beauty and he ruined it. He had the kind of face that would have probably aged well, but he seems to have some dysmorphia issues. How could anyone who looks like Zac Efron look in the mirror, see that face, and think it could be improved upon?

I can’t link from my phone right now but there are photos of Julianne Moore at the Toronto Film Festival on the Daily Fail today for her new movie and her face looks pretty odd. Almost that puffy and waxy Nicole Kidman look with a new added chin implant to probably help tighten her neck. Maybe someone can link it? Hope it all settles or she can tweak whatever she’s done as she looks bizarre.

R195 That's quite distressing to read, as I have always found her to possess such a rare, natural beauty. She has talked a great deal about regularly receiving Thermage treatments for almost as long as the technology has existed. She has also mentioned in an interview that she had tried Botox once, and decided it wasn't for her. With her colouring, skin type, etc., it's even more difficult to remain youthful looking naturally. I certainly hope it may have been simply a bad picture. She had proudly claimed once she didn't fault others for surgery, but hadn't had any, and didn't wish to go down that road. Well, Lady Gaga said as much too however, and look at her now.

I expect the forehead is botoxed but she has fine lines at her eyes and above her lips. She's probably just reached that time where she should retire the trademark hair color. Go lighter, Julie. Seriously.

She looks like she has fillers in her cheeks, and botox in her forehead. It’s all very uneven.

What a shame. I hope it all dies down a bit. She has always been a beautiful woman.

Old Hollywood got facelifts that made them look permanently surprised.

I've been watching old SUV episodes, and there is a whole squad of elderly actresses who play 'guest' attorneys, and it's filled with women like Beverly DeAngelo, Marlo Thomas, Mariette Hartley, Shirley Jones, Judith Light, etc. There are some terrible plastic surgery results in there, like DeAngelo. Shirley Jones didn't look too bad, other than a frozen face. Light looks good. Marlo doesn't look awful, but she snarls all of her lines.

Light never looks good. She has terrible hair.

Courtney Love was not an ugly woman, she was told she was an ugly woman, and now she looks like every other blonde actress of a certain age. She ruined a unique face.

The Bogdanoffs have a rare disorder where some. tissue grows uncontrollably. They might have had some surgery but it didn't do any good either. If you look at the images, you see the whole bone structure is changed. It's a pity. How horrible it must be, especially when you were great looking once.

Sandra Bullock is turning into Michael Jackson, and Zellweger looked like her face was used for boxing practice when she did the 3rd Bridget Jones movie, they're both in totally disfigured territory.

Most overdone women develop the same waxy-cat look. Not a great look IMO.

Beautiful people around NEVER have work done. Maybe a nose job. That's it. That's why so many pretty celebs look absurd. It doesn't matter if one feature was a little off, you were beautiful to begin with. You don't need plastic surgery; it throws off the symmetry off your face which is what rly made you beautiful not individual features.
