Was KC from the Sunshine band gay?

Tho not big album sellers, they were pretty big in the era of the disco with 3 #1´s and several other top ten hits.

We don't want him.

by Anonymousreply 1August 27, 2021 12:59 AM

He was adorable in the 70’s, I loved how he smiled while singing and dancing.

by Anonymousreply 2August 27, 2021 1:01 AM

Just look at him in the 1970s videos and see if you can’t figure it out.

Is water wet?

by Anonymousreply 4August 27, 2021 3:07 AM

Yes.

Here's an old thread on the subject.

KC and the Sunshine Band had 5 number 1 hits:

Get Down Tonight (1975)

(That's The Way) I Like It (1975)

(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty (1976)

I'm Your Boogie Man (1977)

Please Don't Go (1980)

One of his best songs. People thought he was black until they saw his face on a record album. Music videos had not been invented yet.

Various DLers have had stories about him over the years

by Anonymousreply 9August 27, 2021 3:16 AM

I didn’t realize how cute he was. Thanks R8)

by Anonymousreply 10August 27, 2021 3:19 AM

R7, he almost had 6. "Keep It Comin' Love" got to number 2 on Billboard. And He had another big hit "Yes I'm Ready" with Teri DiSario, though I don't know how high it charted. Kind of amazing, when you think that artists like Springsteen and CCR never had a single number one hit.

by Anonymousreply 11August 27, 2021 3:19 AM

I like KC's solo hit "Give It Up".

There are about 84 threads on this topic, and about his beau Rick Finch.

R11, Yes I'm Ready also peaked at #2.

by Anonymousreply 14August 27, 2021 3:23 AM

KC also wrote, produced, and played keyboards on this number one hit by George McCrae.

Met and hung out with KC at an event in the very early 2000s (DL fave Susan Olsen was also there, drunk on draft beer, in a parking lot). I would say, yeah, he's gay, but wasn't particularly upfront about it. Very nice man, affable, etc.

by Anonymousreply 16August 27, 2021 3:31 AM

He was as hot as they come back in the day.

My boyfriend had him in the early 90s.

by Anonymousreply 18August 27, 2021 3:38 AM

He was great when he used to appear on Midnight Special. Rick Finch (the bass player in white) was his lover. The guy he lives with now is named Mark.

Somebody here said he picked up a Disney cast member (Aladdin) for a BJ a while back.

Didn't he basically start the disco craze?

by Anonymousreply 20August 27, 2021 3:59 AM

Yes he's gay but he is quite closeted about it. And also yes, he was very Hot back in the day!

by Anonymousreply 21August 27, 2021 4:03 AM

Some say the 1st "disco" hit was KC's "get down tonight" some say it was "rock the boat" by The Hughes Corp.

KC doesn't like the term "disco" though. He thought their music was funk. "I'm your boogie man" was definitely funk, not disco. It's my favorite, along with "give it up".

R11 "keep it comin' love" did go to #1 on the Billboard R&B charts, though. I'll give him credit for 6. ;-)

All those #1s were deserved, I think. Great stuff. I'll take it any day over boring Bruce.

by Anonymousreply 23August 27, 2021 4:25 AM

Yes, he's gay, and he was soooooo cute! But not anymore. :-(

Yes, OP, and he still is!

Unfortunately, the music he's releasing nowadays is truly awful.

Take note Twinks, the tight white pants he wore on that video was typical of the time. Not like the flat butt cut they have now.

by Anonymousreply 26August 30, 2021 3:18 AM

Don't know about now but he was when he was blowing my friend in the cast tunnel under Space Mountain in 1978.

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2021 3:23 AM

Love the group! Saw them at a music festival about 8 years ago and had a blast!

by Anonymousreply 28August 30, 2021 3:33 AM

R27 He likes giving BJs at Disney World, apparently. Somebody else said he gave Aladdin a BJ (I assume in the 90s, see post #28 below).

Your friend was lucky! Got him in '78 when he was HOT!!!
