RIP Charlie.

Does anyone know if the Rolling Stones are still planning their tour next month?

by Anonymousreply 4August 24, 2021 4:49 PM

omfg!

by Anonymousreply 5August 24, 2021 4:49 PM

Are we sure?

by Anonymousreply 6August 24, 2021 4:49 PM

Yes. Even his publicist confirmed it.

by Anonymousreply 7August 24, 2021 4:50 PM

Charlie Watts is dead but Keith Richards lives on. Why God, why?

by Anonymousreply 8August 24, 2021 5:03 PM

He wasn't on my 2021 death watch.

by Anonymousreply 13August 24, 2021 5:28 PM

Sounds like he had a medical procedure that either had complications or he ended up gettin COVID *or* some kind of infection post surgery.

by Anonymousreply 14August 24, 2021 5:30 PM

I thought he was older than that.

by Anonymousreply 15August 24, 2021 5:31 PM

I thought they would all eventually die onstage.

by Anonymousreply 16August 24, 2021 5:32 PM

I love the fact that even though I heard and enjoyed his work my whole life, and he was a member of one of the biggest acts in rock history, I know almost nothing about him as a person. He flew under the celebrity radar his whole life, which is pretty amazing.

Rock on, Charlie!

by Anonymousreply 17August 24, 2021 5:32 PM

Hey Charlie, say "hey" to Neil Peart - another fantastic drummer who kept his personal life very private. Hell, he didn't even tell anyone aside from his family when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

by Anonymousreply 18August 24, 2021 5:35 PM

He had a hot, tight snare drum but he couldn't live forever.

Damn.

Thanks for the memories, Charlie. RIP

by Anonymousreply 21August 24, 2021 5:43 PM

All these 60s rock stars are starting to hit their 80s. Grace Slick just turned 80 this year. It’s gonna be a steady stream of dead rock icons from here on out.

by Anonymousreply 22August 24, 2021 5:51 PM

[quote]Hey Charlie, say "hey" to Neil Peart

Hey, you! Get off of my cloud!

by Anonymousreply 23August 24, 2021 5:51 PM

Time, time, time wasn't on his side.

by Anonymousreply 24August 24, 2021 5:51 PM

Time is on no one’s side, R24.

by Anonymousreply 25August 24, 2021 5:53 PM

But Chris Watts is Ok right?

by Anonymousreply 26August 24, 2021 5:53 PM

Miss you, Charlie

by Anonymousreply 29August 24, 2021 5:55 PM

McCartney's next.

by Anonymousreply 30August 24, 2021 5:57 PM

RIP, Wembley Whammer (Mick's nickname for Charlie). You were the drummer for the soundtrack of my life.

by Anonymousreply 31August 24, 2021 5:57 PM

This sucks. If I recall correctly Watts had been fighting cancer for some time. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 32August 24, 2021 5:57 PM

did McCartney have work done? He looks a whole lot better than he has in years.-

by Anonymousreply 33August 24, 2021 6:02 PM

I remember a story I read in a Stones book. The band was in Amsterdam at a local hotel. Charlie was in bed or about to be when Mick called his room. Mick and Keith were partying in Keith's room and Mick called Charlie and said something like "Hey, where's my fucking drummer? Get your ass down here!" Charlie got up, showered and shaved, put on a fresh suit and polished his shoes and left. He got in the elevator, went down to Keith's room, walked up to Mick and punched him right in the mouth knocking him to the floor. While Mick was down there, Charlie shouted "Don't you ever talk to me like that again! I'm not your fucking drummer, you're my fucking singer!". He then turned around and went back to his room.

by Anonymousreply 34August 24, 2021 6:05 PM

[quote]Does anyone know if the Rolling Stones are still planning their tour next month?

Apparently so. Charlie had already bowed out.

by Anonymousreply 35August 24, 2021 6:08 PM

He had the best fucking style.

by Anonymousreply 36August 24, 2021 6:10 PM

Grace Slick is almost 82, r22.

by Anonymousreply 37August 24, 2021 6:10 PM

He was the coolest Stone, IMO.

And I have this weird feeling that Paul McCartney will live to be over 100.

R30 Ringo turned 82 this year! Still looks great though.

Enough R39. Please. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 44August 24, 2021 6:22 PM

Finance question, did they all divide the money equally or did Mick get the lion's share.

by Anonymousreply 45August 24, 2021 6:27 PM

Saw him in the Eurostar Business Lounge at St Pancras in 2009. Took a couple of minutes to realize it was him, but for those first two minutes, I just marveled at how stylish that older gentleman looked. Total icon.

[quote]Finance question, did they all divide the money equally or did Mick get the lion's share.

I would guess that Mick and Keith got most of the money since they wrote most of their songs. Same as Lennon & McCartney.

by Anonymousreply 48August 24, 2021 6:35 PM

Keith and mick wrote the songs so they get royalties. For touring money, the original stones probably split it evenly. Ronnie woods joined in the mid 1970s and I heard he was just a salaried employee for many years before the stones allowed him to get a cut of the revenue. But I bet Bill, Keith, mick and Charlie probably split touring and merchandise money evenly as original members. Plus, i don't think Charlie would have been ok taking a smaller cut. But just speculating here.

by Anonymousreply 49August 24, 2021 6:53 PM

I will always worship The Beatles but The Rolling Stones were the perfect rock band. Embodied what the genre was and beyond.

R33, you’re right, he definitely had some work done recently. He’s even got bruising around the face—he looks much, much better.

by Anonymousreply 52August 24, 2021 7:51 PM

So the transition reversal surgery didn't go well after all?

Terrible.

by Anonymousreply 53August 24, 2021 8:02 PM

Has Madonna released a statement yet about the loss of her "very good friend" or is she waiting for a bigger audience?

Regardless, the Rolling $tones $how will go on and on and on.

by Anonymousreply 54August 24, 2021 8:07 PM

As long as Mick Jagger, Dylan and Paul McCartney are still with us, I feel young

by Anonymousreply 55August 24, 2021 8:09 PM

And Willie Nelson and Ringo and Keith "Face of Death" Richards.

And, personally, Loretta Lynn, the old GOP shill, God bless her.

by Anonymousreply 56August 24, 2021 8:12 PM

Charlie was a very talented drummer and the others should retire now.

by Anonymousreply 57August 24, 2021 8:25 PM

Agree r57

But, Mick has a zillion kids to support

by Anonymousreply 58August 24, 2021 8:57 PM

Yes R57 - they won't, though - more millions to be made, even now

by Anonymousreply 59August 24, 2021 9:08 PM

Ronnie Wood had a cancer recurrence during lockdown, if memory serves.

I agree that McCartney "seems" old in a way that he didn't just a couple of years ago.

I think the last ones standing from that generation will be Roger Daltrey (who has found physical and mental solace in farming, per the link) and Ringo (longtime sober). Maybe Mick.

Mick has been a health nut since the 70s. His father also lived to 93. Mick may be the one who sees 100.

The classiest Arabian horse owner there was. Lovely man, wonderful husband and father. Immense talent. Amazing taste. Charlie was perfection. I wonder how the other three are dealing with this... Did they pour a drink, cry, reminisce? Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 68August 25, 2021 6:38 PM

Didn't he get into heroin when he was around 50n or 60? I seem to remember him having a late in life drug phase.

by Anonymousreply 69August 25, 2021 6:39 PM

He did, briefly.

by Anonymousreply 70August 25, 2021 6:58 PM

An anecdote I just remembered. Notorious Sweet Connie, the infamous 70s rock groupie from Arkansas who used to get backstage to all the major shows and blow everyone she could, recalled meeting Charlie backstage after a Stones show. She sidled up next to him to make small talk for a few minutes, later moving in for the kill. "I'd love to suck your cock", she leaned over coyly telling him. He looked completely shocked, and got up and ran away.

Charlie?

Oh thank God, I thought it read Chris Watts!

by Anonymousreply 73August 26, 2021 11:47 AM

The clip at r72 made me realize how much a drummer gets to see of the whole show, from the back. The back of the rest of the band, playing out to the entire audience. Imagine seeing that for every live Stones show ever played. Kudos.

by Anonymousreply 74August 26, 2021 1:03 PM

We see Mick shakin' his booty from Charlie's pov LOL.
