I’d never heard about the Bhagwan or his Rajneesh movement. They came to the US from India in the 80’s and bought a whole Oregon town to create a utopia. It’s right up there with OJ: Made in America.
Netflix’s ‘Wild Wild Country’ is One of the Best Documentaries Ever Made

The Bhagwan. Oh, yeah.
Talk to the eldergays for the inside info on all of that.

Aren’t they doing a sequel on Ma Anand Sheela? To me she was the best part of the doc!

What would be the point of a sequel, R2? I think it already reached a satisfying conclusion. And yes, her part certainly helps make for such a fascinating tale.

Yes. And it was last year when we talked about it then too.

Don’t come in here with that shit, R4.

I tried watching it. Like all Netflix documentaries, it was too long and unfocused. If it had been pared down to 2 hours, it would have been ok. The OJ documentary was also underwhelming. Truly great long documentaries are "The World at War" or "The Jinx." This was just blah.

R6 you’re nuts. You can’t tell this story, not OJ’s, in two friggin hours.

I really enjoyed it too. Always looking for good docs to watch. Peacock channel is adding some good ones too.

Started slow for me and I kept think why is this worth a six part docuseries? Then it gets good. I had never heard the song "Run" before so I'll always be grateful to the show for introducing me to it.
I just finished episode 2 of The Sons of Sam. Interesting for anyone who likes serial killers, true crime, and conspiracies.

The Duplass brothers are geniuses.

Love this documentary. I think I’ve watched it 3 times.

Is this the one with Owen Wilson?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 24, 2021 3:47 AM |
No it isn’t, R13.

^^^ COULDN’T
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 24, 2021 3:55 AM |
As much as I loved it (and I did) the real events just didn’t have a great ending so I think the documentary suffers from that as well. You really want this neatly packaged ending, but real life didn’t work that way.

Started watching and just sort of fizzled out on it. It was good, but I can’t agree that it’s one of the best documentaries evarrrr.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 24, 2021 11:52 AM |
Name a documentary that’s better, R18.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 24, 2021 10:44 PM |
R19 - to name just a few...
DEAR ZACHARY
CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS
MAKING A MURDERER
I liked WILD WILD WEST, but it was not the best documentary EVAH.

I'll go too:
The Act of Killing/The Look of Silence
Harland County, USA
Hoop Dreams
Sans Soleil
Los Angeles Plays Itself

R19,
“Grey Gardens” “Capturing the Friedmans” “Tabloid” “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia”
I’m not saying it’s not a good documentary, I just didn’t find it intriguing. Documenting something that’s innately extraordinary doesn’t have the same impact on me that documenting something that’s seemingly ordinary (but isn’t).
