He aged well.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 22, 2021 5:34 AM |
Maybe one of my favorite songs ever. No matter who sings it.

John Prine and the Everly Brothers are all gone. The best Muhlenberg County, Kentucky had to offer.

I thought they were both dead already.
Very sad, in any case. Fare thee well

They had incredible harmonies. I always wonder if family groups have a natural ability to harmonize.

I'll do my cryin' in the rain
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2021 3:02 PM |
Bye Bye love.

If he was born in '39, he's 82, not 83 or 84 as other sources state.

The top photo in Op's linked article is brother Phil Everly, who passed away in 2014.
Don Everly is in this photo.

I'd be crying in the rain, if we had any.

Now Susie will never wake up.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 22, 2021 4:37 PM |
Don was the cuter of the two.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 22, 2021 5:28 PM |
"The last surviving brother" in the OP makes it sound like there was a brood of Everly Brothers. There were two.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 22, 2021 6:13 PM |
Aww. RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 22, 2021 6:15 PM |
I was shocked to read that their mother is still living.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 23, 2021 2:43 AM |
Was she 14 when she had her first child?

Don's mother, Margaret, is 101: Don was born when she was 17. Margaret sued Don in 1986:
The Everly Brothers broke up their act for a few years because of a feud and now Don Everly is in trouble with their mother. Margaret E. Everly filed suit in Nashville, Tenn., saying Don won't sign over the title of the house she has lived in for almost 30 years.
The brothers bought the house for their parents in 1958, putting the title in the parents' name while they made the payments and took tax deductions. The parents signed the property back over to the sons when the Internal Revenue Service questioned the deductions in 1966. Mrs. Everly said the brothers promised to transfer the title back and that son Phil had done so now that the mortgage was paid. But Don has refused to transfer his 40 percent interest, says Mrs. Everly, who wants the court to rule that he had abused his 'confidential relationship' with her. Don Everly and his attorney had no comment on the case.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 24, 2021 12:44 AM |

R5- They looked gay in that photo. I wonder if either of them were connoisseurs of COCK.

Don Everly in later years. He was born in 1937 which makes him 84.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 24, 2021 2:57 PM |
Phil Everly died in 2014 at age 74. He was the younger of the two by 2 years.

Phil was politically very conservative and religious, and he and Don had a major falling out about politics. Don was the good brother. But when they harmonized they sounded like angels. So many classics. But Let It Be Me and Dream are my two favorites. Enjoy When Will I Be Loved. Had no idea they wrote that when I head Linda Ronstadt's version. They had a reunion concert in either Australia or the UK, back a while ago, 80's o 90's and they sounded great.

Erin Everly, the daughter of Don Everly, married Axel Rose but filed for divorce shortly afterwards because of his erratic ways. He wrote their first and biggest hit for her, "Sweet Child 'O Mine".

Is there some reason why the OP thinks there were more than 2 Everly Brothers?

Charlie Watts died. He was 80.

One of Don's wives (and daughter Erin's mother) was Venetia Stevenson, herself the daughter of General Hospital actress Anna Lee and British director Robert Stevenson. Don was once Lila Quartermaine's son-in-law lol. Venetia's first husband was Russ Tamblyn, whom she married at 17.
Actor James Best, best known for playing Sheriff Rosco on the Dukes of Hazzard, was Don and Phil's first cousin.

[quote] …Anna Lee… R48 Anna Lee knew all about enticing men and stopping unwanted attention from them at 15.40.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 24, 2021 10:44 PM |
Don wrote Cathy's Clown. He & Phil wrote a lot of songs but that one was his alone.

R48 Venetia was stunning and hung out with Tony Perkins and Tab Hunter a lot when they were up and comers in the 1950s. Besides marrying Russ Tamblyn, she was also with Ricky Nelson before marrying Everly in ‘62. After marrying Everly, she retired and had three children with him. Aside from her love life, she’s most known for this photo with Russ, which appeared in Life Magazine.
Musical geniuses are often severely fucked up in their personal lives. How’s this for a disturbing story: Don Everly married his first wife, Mary Sue Ingraham, in March of 1957 when Sue was 3 months pregnant. Since both were under the age of 21 (the legal age to get married without parents’ consent in Tennessee) they drove to Ringgold, Georgia to elope. Sue gave birth in October of that year, however the baby died shortly after her birth. On April 16, 1959 they welcomed a baby girl, Venetia Ember. She was named after Venetia Stevenson, a starlet Don had met on The Ed Sullivan Show two years prior.
Shortly after in 1960, Don and Phil moved to Hollywood. Choosing to leave his wife and child behind, Don is rumored to have said “You’re just not Hollywood, babe” before leaving Nashville. The couple legally separated in August of 1960 and Don sought out and began seeing Venetia Stevenson, the same woman he named his first child after and who he would go on to marry. Sue filed for divorce in May of 1961, charging that Don had choked her and kicked her in the stomach on one occasion. The judge ruled that Don “was guilty of such cruel and inhuman treatment and conduct towards [Sue], as renders it unsafe and improper for her to further cohabit with him and be under his dominion and control.”
He was given visitation rights for their 3 year old daughter under the condition that he never take her in the presence of Venetia Stevenson. However, after remarrying, Don no longer acknowledged having a daughter from his previous marriage. Both Don and Sue remarried in 1962, Don to Venetia and Sue to Ernest Tubb’s nephew, Douglas Glenn Tubb.

^ Stranger than fiction.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 25, 2021 5:55 AM |
That actually doesn’t sound particularly crazy to me, R51. Just sounds like a bit of young-person dysfunction (they were basically kids, under 21) with some minor spousal battery, breaking up, getting famous and pursuing another famous person. The only novel thing there is he sought out the woman his first child was named after.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 25, 2021 2:50 PM |
Don admitted going though a bad period, said he abused drugs, alcohol and "did things I'm ashamed of..." So he was probably thinking of this when he said that.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 25, 2021 6:18 PM |
Is he the one that went, "Yeah, yeah, yeah" or the one that went, "I'd rather sell vacuums door to door"?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 26, 2021 12:18 PM |
They both seemed kinda GAY to me.
