Afghan Gays are frightened for their lives

While I can understand their concern, it really is no different if January 5th had succeeded...or America in the 80s....

Aren’t we supposed to pretend now that Islam is on our side or something?

by Anonymousreply 2August 22, 2021 4:26 AM

These are the only Afghan refugees I’d welcome. Let the rest of them rot in their homophobic hell.

by Anonymousreply 3August 22, 2021 4:32 AM

This is why being reflexively antiwar is a sign of heterosexual privilege.

by Anonymousreply 4August 22, 2021 4:47 AM

At this point, I would kill more heterosexuals than Hitler killed Jews just to save the life of one gay person.

by Anonymousreply 5August 22, 2021 4:47 AM

Any pics of the gays, not the trannies?

by Anonymousreply 6August 22, 2021 4:59 AM

Yeah right OP. That really looks like a 'secret' community.

by Anonymousreply 7August 22, 2021 5:11 AM

I realize that everyone's circumstances are different. I also realize that as far as being gay is concerned, my life is a dream compared to the lives of gays living in Afghanistan. But if I grew up gay in that environment, I would have done absolutely EVERYTHING in my power to GTFO as soon as possible.

I'm sure there are some lovely Afghani people. But it's a fucking hell-hole, socially and politically. Even if it meant hopping from say India, and then to Europe, or the U.S...I would've made it my life's mission to leave it behind, until it came to pass.

For anyone to be complacent with life as a member of a "secret", "underground" community in a place that will stop at nothing to eradicate it (even in the absence of the Taliban), is the greatest mistake they could make.

by Anonymousreply 8August 22, 2021 5:22 AM

Another anti-Biden thread.

by Anonymousreply 9August 22, 2021 6:06 AM

I've noticed that whenever there's an openly gay man from deeply conservative society like Pakistan,Afghan,Iraq etc its always the effeminate/crossdressing trans type.

As if the regular gay men from the regions either doesn't exist or permanently closeted.

by Anonymousreply 10August 22, 2021 6:59 AM

R9 is a homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 11August 22, 2021 7:04 AM

We need an LGBTaliban and we need it now.

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2021 7:25 AM

The whole planet's first question when anything is wrong is, "How is the United States going to fix this?".

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2021 7:35 AM

It is definitely true that the more "macho" the culture, the more feminine the openly gay are - for example, there has always been a much bigger drag community and tradition in Spanish colonies where machismo reigns supreme than in the US or in northern Europe. The other thing is that Middle Eastern cultures (as formerly was true in Spain with the culture of duennas watching over young women in public) is the total sequestering of young women away from men, who then, somewhat naturally, turn to their peers, (when teens) for sexual gratification, since they are never allowed to be alone with women. This is rarely considered homosexuality, in that the assumption is that once someone is married, he will no longer diddle other men.

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2021 7:35 AM

Afghan gays have ALWAYS been frighten for their lives.

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2021 2:12 PM

The Taliban reassures people there is nothing to worry about.

Afghanistan TV - surreal

This is what a political debate now looks like on Afghan TV, Taliban foot soldiers watching over the host. The presenter talks about the collapse of the Ghani govt & says the Islamic Emirate says the Afghan people should not to be afraid

It’s impossible to believe all the men who claim to be gay are. Gay Afghans need to move to more secular Muslim countries, if there is such a thing. They need to stay in the Muslim realm and try to improve life for gay people there.

by Anonymousreply 17August 30, 2021 2:37 PM

How openly gay are Muslims in the UK? Because I know there are none here in Michigan. Zero.

by Anonymousreply 18August 30, 2021 2:40 PM

*many

by Anonymousreply 19August 30, 2021 2:40 PM

[quote]Gay Afghans need to move to more secular Muslim countries, if there is such a thing.

There isn't. Gay men in Afghanistan suffer the same social abhorrence whether in Turkey or Iran or Saudi or Dubai or Yemen or Iraq or Jordan. "Secular Muslim" is non-existent in 56 Muslim countries.

by Anonymousreply 20August 30, 2021 2:43 PM

Then they need to figure it out.

by Anonymousreply 21August 30, 2021 2:44 PM

January 5th???

by Anonymousreply 22August 30, 2021 2:46 PM

I guarantee the guy in the OP’s pic isn’t even gay.

by Anonymousreply 23August 30, 2021 2:46 PM

Why is it that the DL crowd has such a hard time facing the fact that life is a living hell for gays in Muslim countries? Always get "but.. but..Christians are the same! ". Or if the facts are presented you get written off as a Trumpster or Repuglican. Can we just admit that being gay is genuine CRIME in these places punishable by beating, jail or worse? Now I suppose I'm an Islamophobe for stating an obvious truth.

Afghanistan has an extra layer of fucked-up-ness with its unique brand of institutionalized pedophilia. [italic]Bacha bazi[/italic] (dancing boys) are made to wear makeup and think of themselves as girls. Most of them reclaim their masculinity and marry women when they age out, but some stay in the lifestyle as adults because they struggle with their sexuality and gender identity.

No. That would require a combination of intellectual honesty and common sense.

by Anonymousreply 26August 30, 2021 3:19 PM

So they were just living it up at all the public gay beaches and clubs before?

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2021 3:21 PM

R18, I don’t know if he identifies as Muslim, but OnlyFans ho Christian Styles is of Middle Eastern descent, lives in Michigan, and is unabashedly gay. His “daddy” who hides his face on videos is also Middle Eastern.

If I were frightened for my life under the current situation, the last thing I'd do would be prance around wearing lipstick and eye shadow. What a maroon!

by Anonymousreply 29August 30, 2021 3:24 PM

The muslim religion demands that they kill gays its a SICK SICK SOCIETY

by Anonymousreply 30August 30, 2021 3:33 PM

Apparently it needs to be said, over and over and over again, that gays are often tortured and murdered in Eastern Europe and especially in Russia. Those are not Muslim countries. Homophobia is not an exclusive province of Muslim countries. Many of the most extreme laws and punishments for gay people in Muslim lands is a direct outgrowth of the penal codes of Britain when Muslim lands were colonized by them. India never had anti-gay laws until Britain colonized it, and now it is VERY slowly relaxing those laws. As with all Abrahamic religions, there are religious texts that support punishments for gay people in Islam, just as there are in the Torah and in the Christian Bible. However, history shows that there were many more or less openly gay people in Muslim lands dating back to the Middle Ages. For example, the revered poet Rumi seems almost certainly to have been gay and to have had a relationship with his teacher, Sams. So these anti-gay religious texts were not always understood to be literal. But I agree that in the past century ONLY, (not before) , Christian nations of the West have relaxed laws that criminalized gay behavior while Muslim lands have doubled down on these kinds of laws and punishments.

by Anonymousreply 31August 30, 2021 6:48 PM

R30, the Christian religion demands you stone your own children.

by Anonymousreply 32September 2, 2021 12:59 AM

R25 Wow that is fascinating and horrifying. Bacha bazi (dancing boys) you say? Does anyone know this is happening? I'm shocked! Shocked! Why doesn't this get more publicity!?

I'm sure if ANYONE knew about this, NATO would have stayed in Kabul.

It must be very hush hush.

How did you EVER hear about it?
