I like Irene, enjoy some of her music. She's a decent actress. But she was kind of a bitch. Someone posted in one of the other 1,1108 threads we have on DL about Irene's career losing momentum, was an interview from 1980 where she came off as a complete bitch. That may have been part of the problem. But she also made some shitty choices, like that horrible movie with Tatum O'Neal which pretty much ended her film career.

And watching Sparkle again, Lonette McKee completely blew IC off the screen with her incredible sensuality and great acting. Cara just didn't have the same kind of sex appeal or command of the screen as McKee (who also didn't have an A-list career but should have).

But for Irene's pilot not to get bought and for the TV version of [italic]Fame[/italic] to have Erica Gimpel take over for her, that had to hurt. There was barely two years between the movie and TV versions, so it's hard to argue she aged out of it.
