Anyone here hang out at Riis Beach?
Every color of the rainbow

This article really plays up the trans aspect, but 70% of the people who go are garden variety homos. It's a total circus and can be super-fun, if not a little exhausting. At the ripe old age of 40, I go only about twice a summer.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 18, 2021 2:09 PM |
Uhm, I’ll pass..
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 18, 2021 2:10 PM |
Yuck.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 18, 2021 2:17 PM |
Yuck, doesn’t NY state have laws about smoking on beaches?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 18, 2021 2:18 PM |
They really packed that picture with ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 18, 2021 2:24 PM |
It’s a place for unattractive and out of shape people to show off.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 18, 2021 2:26 PM |
We have been told countless times that NYC men are all stunning. These must be tourists.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 18, 2021 2:26 PM |
Not a man in the bunch. A bunch of squealing primping big girls.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 18, 2021 2:32 PM |
I spy, with my little eye……. SHIRLEY FROM WHAT’S HAPPENING!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 18, 2021 2:39 PM |
Riis is fucking horrible. It's mobbed and it's filthy (like hospital waste floating in the water) and it's impossible to get to.
Everyone there is loaded and they're all playing different sets of dance tunes so you can't like get any serenity by being near the water. It's a gay club with uglier people.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 18, 2021 2:50 PM |
I’ve never been there. I thought about it and did a google image search- it looked terrible.
FIP or East Hampton have the best gay beaches. I’ve been to Sandy Hook and hated it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 18, 2021 2:52 PM |
A dank beach with a bunch of salty bottoms.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 18, 2021 3:20 PM |
I’ve been and I can tell you they had to work really hard to find the subjects for that picture. It is overwhelmingly white and circuity.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 18, 2021 4:24 PM |

GANGWAY!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 18, 2021 4:29 PM |
R15, not unlike Washington, DC, then.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 18, 2021 4:30 PM |
You are such nasty bitches, the guys are cute
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 18, 2021 4:33 PM |
"Surgery scars are as nonchalantly on display as tattoos. You’d be hard-pressed to find a bar in the city at which the diverse set of queer people of all body types and gender presentations would party together. It’s a horny place, but as Benitez puts it, “it’s more powerful than sexual.”
HARD PASS.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 18, 2021 4:42 PM |
R14, what? You must’ve been there decades ago then.
Riis is like the poor man’s Fire Island, and most who go there are more likely to describe themselves as queer/non-binary. Those who describe themselves this way are usually not conveniently attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 18, 2021 4:48 PM |
That photo is like someone ordered up a color palette of ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 18, 2021 4:50 PM |
Why not just go to the beaches at Cherry Grove or The Pines on Fire Island, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 18, 2021 4:51 PM |
gross
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 18, 2021 4:51 PM |
OP, stop calling gays q***r you homophobic breeder-loving quisling!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 18, 2021 4:54 PM |
Op here - R23 seems that Riis is not a gay beach per se, but rather a beach for the LGBTAQ+++ crowd. Hence it is a "queer" beach for the younger crowd who have embraced the term queer.
Of course, eldergays do not support the use of the word "queer" in this context, as you have so eloquently stated.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 18, 2021 4:58 PM |
Its only for the poors dear; Not Our Kind!

Riis Park used to be NYC's nude beach until some senior center home or other neighbors nearby complained, and nudity was forbidden there. Man, some of the guys there years ago were absolutely gorgeous!

Speak for yourself.
I have absolutely no trouble with the use of "queer," and think people who do are ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 18, 2021 5:00 PM |
Riis Park has a very long history involving gays, specifically Bays 1 & 2 and the bathhouse. There was a lot of nudity and sex on the beach was not uncommon. It totally went to shit when the Feds took it over. It was a mind blowing place for a horny gayling of 13 walking the beach with straight buddies to look at tits.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 18, 2021 5:02 PM |
Riis is for people who can't take off multiple days to go to Fire Island, or are too poor to go and stay overnight.
Remember this gem from a few years ago? It's an absolute riot, darling.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 18, 2021 5:05 PM |
Riis is a lot closer r21. Fire Island is a trek to get to that you would make the trip to stay for multiple days. Riis is an easy beach day trip.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 18, 2021 5:11 PM |
Some of the worst tattoos I’ve ever seen. What is that gargoyle on the woman on the left in the first pic?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 18, 2021 5:13 PM |
Not after dark.. .
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 18, 2021 5:26 PM |
Looks like International Male was everyone’s fav place to shop.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 18, 2021 5:30 PM |
It's like the United Colors of Fatetton.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 19, 2021 1:18 AM |
questionable demographics.... hard pass
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 19, 2021 2:41 AM |
I used to go to Riis in the 70’s, when it was nude and great fun. And, yes, the nursing home overlooking that section of the beach had terraces crammed with elderly residents leering away. The water wasn’t very clean, but it was a helluva lot cleaner than Coney Island.
At the opposite end of the beach were high forested dunes, sheltering abandoned Art Deco concrete gun emplacements, former defenses from WWII, complete with tunnels and rail tracks. Very eerie. Perfect for cruising, though I rarely saw anyone else there. Probably all gone now.

Riis Park has always been borough gay ghetto unfabulous. This is what most native-to-their-city, urban gay men look like—not a gaggle of chichi faggots with good shoes & gym bodies taking Ubers to wherever. Most people in NYC are poor poor poor, it’s just that no one wants to see icky poor people depicted in film, television, or social media. (Although sometimes they pop up in fine photography: think Arbus and her spawn.)
Additionally, this is what The Bronx, Queens, & Brooklyn really looks like. Aside from the fact that they have it over Manhattan gays in sheer volume, these borough bridge & tunnel bitches will cut a Chelsea or UWS queen…if only they could make it past the building concierge.

Reclaiming a slur word?! Oh my sides. If that isn't magical thinking, I don't know what is.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 19, 2021 3:27 AM |
I'll be nice. They look like they have good personalities.....
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 19, 2021 3:31 AM |
What do they call me? My name is Peaches!!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 19, 2021 3:32 AM |
Pfft. It can't be a real gay beach if gay men aren't allowed to show their willies.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 19, 2021 3:46 AM |
I always wanted to go there back in my super slutty days. It looks like the clientele at one of the horrid gay sex parties I went to 8 years ago. Yuck
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 19, 2021 3:46 AM |
R39 Three sentences and two idiomatic expressions.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 19, 2021 4:30 AM |
I'm pretty sure no one has any difficulty understanding what I mean, R44. How would you have phrased it, world's greatest stylist?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 19, 2021 3:39 PM |
"not a gaggle of chichi faggots with good shoes & gym bodies taking Ubers to wherever."
From what I've seen, a large portion of the self-described A-List Manhattan queens aren't all that, either.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 19, 2021 3:52 PM |
R38, that's Fort Tilden. It is all still there. I don't think it is a cruising area but I know it is a bit of a nudist beach for the Williamsburg crowd.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 19, 2021 10:25 PM |
The Bronx Riviera is the best kept secret. Pelham Bay park is beautiful and there are nature trails to escape the masses. Many hot men of every flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 19, 2021 10:38 PM |
Maybe they should call this an episode of “scared straight.” Because I sure wouldn’t want to join if this is the membership
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 20, 2021 2:07 AM |
R48, I'd never swim in that water. It is like a toilet that never totally flushes.
