The Living End is an under appreciated masterpiece
I watched it last night and it was so good. This movie is still amazing today. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the themes. I don't think Gregg Araki gets his due. Shows like Euphoria are building off Araki and Larry Clark's templates.
There is a gay channel now on Amazon called Strand which has a lot of cool gay/queer cinema. I am going to watch "Totally Fucked Up" Tonight.

Does it feature either cute boys, or intelligent men?

Yes, cute boys. This is a must see for any gay.

Great. Another god-damned twat pretending to be [italic]en auteur[/italic] by declaring with no depth of comment that something is an "under appreciated (sic) masterpiece.
How many times?
Oh, dear, to boot.

I would rather have both.

I would rather people see it with their own eyes and make their own interpretations rather than forcing a point of view.

Totally agree. Possibly my favorite movie of the 1990s. Perfectly captured being gay in the early 90s. The “fuck it” attitude that made us live for today. Needs to get more attention.

I love Araki's films. He always had good taste in the men he casts and is sure to exploit their beauty. I think The Living End and Mysterious Skin are his best work. Though I'm partial to Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy and even Kaboom has its charm.

I loved it then, and still love it now. Despite the low budget it’s one of my favorite gay movies.

After Araki made Totally Fucked Up, another gay themed film with an anarchist countercultural streak, he seemed to be more concerned about fluid sexuality and exploring postmodern themes. James Duval was his muse and he casted him in The Doom Generation and Nowhere, playing the same role he originated in Totally Fucked Up. Being the sweet lovesick naif who repeatedly faces tragedy, never getting to have a relationship with his male love interest. Kaboom recycled this but gave us Thomas Dekker as the lead who scores with both men and women but never gets to realize a relationship. I haven't gotten around to watching Now Apocalypse but from what clips I've seen it's basically the Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy in TV format with the same themes and Duval is even part of the cast.
