If you had the money to buy just one luxury version of any of the above, which one would you choose?
Personally I prefer mountain houses.

Beach. In gay-friendly meccas like Mykonos, Ibiza, San Juan, Ft. Lauderdale, and Honolulu. Sorry, no Pines or P-Town. Had my share of that and the pace (let alone the presumptions) would be deadly. Plus, having actual supermarkets and cars around is a nice thing.

In other you can choose vacation ranch, farms or other.

I selected mountain, but I'd prefer a mountain in the desert.

Forest. Woods. Some place close to nature.

In a forest but on a lake. A chain of lakes would be cool like the Muskoka region of Ontario. Lots of places to explore by boat!

Beach, not because I am gay, more because I grew up in a beach town and as a child and even into my teens I would often go there to get away from things. So peaceful and always changing. I feel very connected to it and the sea life. My father was burred at sea, he was not religious but in the Navy so that influence too. However, I hate fishing, it's not a sport to me, it's just like hunting at sea, kind of cruel if your goal is killing for fun. At least eat it if you are going to kill it.
Not a city beach, small town or off the grid is what I am talking about.

Absolutely 100% a lake. Id build an amazing house that blends in with the forest probably somewhere in Vermont with my own boat dock. I have zero interest in the beach. Mountains are OK as long as they're small East Coast mountains. Fuck the desert who wants to live in a sandbox.

Small lakes freak me out because the water is kind of stagnate and just sits there. The muddy feel under your feet not something I enjoy either. Very spooky at night, there's a reason so many slasher movies involve small lakes. Great place to dump dead bodies. Bigger lakes are a different story. Lake Tahoe for example has beaches with sand and beautiful water. The great lakes are more like oceans except for the salt and more exotic sea life.

None; I've seen the ritual of moving house to lake and beach and it's not worth it.
In the Midwest, Fancy people used their lakehouses as an excuse to buy stupid shit. They'd truck in outdated, damaged, or ugly (inherited) furniture and belongings.
They'd pack worn out clothing because setup usually involved washing everything down with tsp, cleaning moss off the exterior, and making sure the toilet was safe to use. Setting up temporary docks was disgusting.
No, I'd rather lease and pay somebody else to worry.

Big city. Nothing else.

Summer heat is bothering me more and more so I guess mountains, a tall piney area (love the sound of wind in the pines), probably like the areas out west that are burning every year. 😕

By the lake in the mountains.

Beach, but without the humidity, please.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 15, 2021 9:40 PM |
Humidity is tolerable in places where there’s a breeze (Caribbean) as opposed to stagnant air (Gulf coast).

Living around water means a constant danger of floods: no thanks. Mountains, maybe if there is not a snow problem. Give me a nice 1905 or so four square (center hall) in nice condition with a/c and a large barn and I’m happy.

Sad to see desert so low on the list, don’t the beach people realize it’s just like the beach, but with out that messy ocean running like a giant toilet bowl that won’t shut off?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 16, 2021 9:37 AM |
Desert is nothing like the beach
