To lay is to place.

To lie is to recline.

Nobody gets it right. Ugh.

Tenses? To have lied down. I lied down. After I lay my crisps on the kitchen countertop. I lay down doesn't sound gramatically incorrect, does it? And whilst we're on the subject, it's enamoured of. Only of, not with, not king, not duke.

As I Lay... superciliously judging

by Anonymousreply 2August 14, 2021 4:16 PM

To have lain down - that's the past tense?

by Anonymousreply 4August 14, 2021 4:24 PM

Your just making this stuff up. What are you inferring?

by Anonymousreply 5August 14, 2021 4:36 PM

"Lay" is also "reclined."

"Laid" is "placed."

"Lied" is "told a falsehood."

by Anonymousreply 6August 14, 2021 4:38 PM

R5, by using "your" instead of "you're" you are hereby banned from all discussions about grammar.

by Anonymousreply 7August 14, 2021 4:40 PM

To lay is to fuck. To lie is to be a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 8August 14, 2021 4:42 PM

[quote] by using "your" instead of "you're" you are hereby banned from all discussions about grammar.

It was intentional as was the incorrect use of "inferring", you silly git.

by Anonymousreply 9August 14, 2021 4:45 PM

Fuck this...I'm going to place myself into bed for a nap.

by Anonymousreply 10August 14, 2021 4:49 PM

To get laid is something that never happens

to OP.

by Anonymousreply 11August 14, 2021 4:50 PM

So I'm a lousy place?

by Anonymousreply 12August 14, 2021 5:17 PM

[quote] To lay is to fuck. To lie is to be a Politician.

I want fentanyl. Or smack. Phenobarbital would be dreamy.

" Now I lay me down to sleep, with drugs in my veins, I peacefully sleep.

by Anonymousreply 17August 14, 2021 8:17 PM

That’s not true, OP. You lie.

When I was a kid, if I said something like "I'm going to lay down," my grandmother would snap back "you are not a chicken," but she'd never explain what she meant. Sooo ... not particularly helpful.

[quote]To lie is to recline.

You're pants are on fire.

by Anonymousreply 21August 14, 2021 9:25 PM

I never get it right, oh well.

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2021 9:35 PM

It's extremely simple:

To lay is a transitive verb.

To lie is an intransitive verb.

by Anonymousreply 23August 14, 2021 11:07 PM

R1 You are incorrect - confident, but incorrect.

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2021 11:09 PM

R16 what is your native language?

by Anonymousreply 25August 14, 2021 11:11 PM

Now I lay me down to bed.

I am grateful for this thread, though I don’t know if I’ll be able to read it through my tears.

I have lain down in bed to go to sleep every night this week. On Friday and Saturday, however, I lay down on Frank's bed, where he fucked me all night long, i.e., we both got laid. I laid my glasses and phone on his passenger-side nighttable as he laid his dong upon my face.

Next lesson, conjugate "suck" and "fuck."

by Anonymousreply 28August 25, 2021 10:45 PM

Datalounge is not your fucking school and the people on here are not your fucking students, fuck off bitter old queen.
