4 out of 5 of us are morbidly obese?
Uh-oh...
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 14, 2021 4:06 AM |
BMI is ridiculous. The low end of normal weight for me would be 125 pounds. Get real. I’ve been 140 pounds and I look anorexic in photos from that time.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 14, 2021 4:15 AM |
There is a smart BMI too
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 14, 2021 5:22 AM |
My BMI is just under 24. Normal weight. I have a small frame, so even though I'm normal weight for my height, I still have a little softball where my 6 pack abdominals should be. Ideally I should weigh 10 pounds less, which would put my BMI at 22 - but at my advanced age I'm not really willing to kill myself to lose those 10 pounds.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 14, 2021 5:32 AM |
BMI is unrealistic, because it judges health based solely on the weight of one body type. Some people are naturally bigger/smaller and perfectly healthy. Conversely, some people at the "perfect" weight can be unhealthy. I understand wanting to find a system to help counter unhealthiness, but this is not it.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 14, 2021 6:14 AM |
I weigh 57.5kg and am 1.63cm tall, so I have 21.7 BMI: I'm small for a guy but rather lean considering I'm 33 and people lose control of their weight when they turn 30. But I'm definitely one to watch my weight; I've been dissatisfied with my shape since I was 10 or 11, developed anorexia when I was 20, and then migrated to EDNOS from age 21 to 26.
I'm surprised at how lean Datalounge is, since most people here are middle aged Americans. Then again, gay men are better at keeping their shape.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 14, 2021 6:25 AM |
26.3 - I am very small.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 14, 2021 8:27 AM |
I am tall and thin, 6'2" and BMI of 21.2.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 14, 2021 12:58 PM |
Wow, I had no idea there were so many obese people posting on DL.
I should have guessed from all the threads about fast food.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 14, 2021 11:47 PM |
^and the resentful posts too
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 21, 2021 9:59 PM |
BMI is useless because it doesn't factor in muscle. A guy is who is 5'9 and 190 lbs might be a porker or he might be jacked. Waist size is a better indicator of physical fitness in men than BMI.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 21, 2021 10:04 PM |
BMI nothing! Just give me a guy with a big, meaty ass I can play with all night! I want it to ripple when I spank it and bounce nicely on my thick eight.
Don't be a tub o' shit, but if we go out to dinner and you sheepishly order nothing but dry salad and ice water because "I'm not hungry," I'll kick your bony ass to the curb. Tell your story walking, Karen Carpenter!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 21, 2021 10:09 PM |
22.8. I used to be chubby as a teen but one summer in college I worked out like crazy and didn't eat much. It worked and I lost enough weight to drop the "overweight" classification. Can't do that again if I tried, lol, I don't know how I didn't lose my mind that summer. Thankfully I've kept the weight off and lost ten more pounds on top of that.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 21, 2021 10:28 PM |
22 - I'm pretty lean and athletic.
If I do say so myself.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 21, 2021 10:43 PM |
I'm 5'8" and weight 160lbs. 24.3 BMI for me. I need to lose some Covid weight.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 21, 2021 10:48 PM |
This is bonkers. I'm 6' and weigh 190 lbs. and workout nearly every day, yet this says I'm overweight.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 21, 2021 11:01 PM |
R16 The BMI calculator is as nuts and judgmental as your average gay male.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 21, 2021 11:06 PM |
I don't get it. My BF is 5'9" and 175 with a BMI of 25.8 and I'm 6'1" and 194 with a BMI of 25.5. I go to the gym but no big routine. so his should be less than mine.

The fifth one is lying through his chocolate-smeared teeth
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 21, 2021 11:32 PM |
R16/ R18 and others - muscle weighs more than fat. As R11 says. So if you are working out every day it isnt strictly 100% accurate.
BMI isnt useless, but it isnt a precise indicator, if you do a lot of exercise but your BMI is 26 you probably arent actually overweight, but if your BMI is 45... you got a problem
And as R11 says, waist size to height ratio to height is a better indicator
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 21, 2021 11:45 PM |
I'm 6'-1", 195 lbs, 34" waist, 44" chest, 8" dick, 0 (zero) debt and 7 figures in the bank. Those are the only numbers that matter. Screw the 25.7 BMI.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 22, 2021 1:52 AM |
R21 - Hmmm. Noticed you left off your age.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 22, 2021 2:19 AM |
I'm very thin and slight, but was seriously overweight for the first 50+ years of my life, then I got healthy once I changed my habits and diet. I'm 60 now. My BMI is 18. I always thought I was big, but it turns out that I'm actually a tiny little stick figure.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 22, 2021 2:34 AM |
On a side note, why in the hell do doctors offices weigh you but then ask you what your height is. Just fucking measure my height as well! Put a god damned ruler on the wall, ask me to stand next to it, and write my height down.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 22, 2021 2:54 AM |
Means absolutely nothing. Body fat percentage is what matters.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 22, 2021 4:05 AM |
R24, my doctor has never taken my word for either my height or my weight - he measures my height while I'm on the scale.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 22, 2021 10:53 PM |
Some of you are so threatened by this thread.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 23, 2021 5:02 AM |
I know BMI is right because if my BMI goes even slightly towards overweight, my blood labs go completely out of wack. When I get back to my normal BMI, everything gets back to normal
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 23, 2021 5:13 AM |
I'm a fat lard. :(
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 23, 2021 5:20 AM |
I was a skinny teenager. Teased about it. I put my weight and height from my first driver's license in on that and it came back that I was at a good weight. I mean I was clearly underweight.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 23, 2021 6:37 AM |
I've gained weight lately. I used to be around 20-21. I'm now about 23. Still well inside the normal range (which is up to 25).
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 14, 2022 1:59 PM |

Currently 27.8. In January, it was 35.4.
So I still have a ways to go before I’m in the “normal” range, but at least I got out of the “obese” range.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 14, 2022 2:29 PM |
R20 No, a BMI > 25 definitely means you're overweight. Why would you need and maintain an excessive amount of muscles? Bodybuilders are actually pretty unhealthy and their bodies are not optimised for physical performance....
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 14, 2022 2:34 PM |
BMI is total fucking bullshit. Mine is like 33, which means I'm obese, supposedly. I fit into 33w pants and wear a size L shirt. I work out a LOT and my weight reflects that. It's dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 14, 2022 2:43 PM |
R44 You are 100 % obese and unhealthy. Please improve your health by losing weight.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 14, 2022 2:53 PM |
65 years old, BMI 19.5. I've been this weight most of my adult life but have had to be more restrictive with my diet as I've aged.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 14, 2022 3:26 PM |
BMI isn’t a perfect calculator but it is a quick tool for healthcare providers to gauge the patient’s risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Obviously if you look muscular with a BMI over 25 no one is going to tell you to lose weight.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 14, 2022 3:29 PM |
The only individuals who think BMI isn't reliable are fat people. Just saying.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 15, 2022 3:38 AM |
R59 OMG AVERAGE waist size over 40 inches for men! Damn Americans are fat!
But then I looked to see what it is here.... we arent far behind, average male waist size here is 96.7 cm which is just over 38 inches so we arent far behind.
My BMI is only a bit less than yours, about 24.5, but my waist size is 72 cm, about 28-29 inches. I used to be smaller, about 65-68 cm, and shit it was hard finding adult clothes that fit.

Women: Height in inches: 63.5 Weight in pounds: 170.8 Waist circumference in inches: 38.7
