The Ex Mrs. Mickey O’Rourke Sues for Rape

Carré Sutton (née Otis and O’Rourke) is suing Linda Evangelista’s sleazy ex-husband Gérald Marie. It’s all very tawdry.

“In the summer of 1986, according to the suit, Ms. Sutton told Ms. Tapscott what had happened to her, and Ms. Tapscott reported the news to Mr. Casablancas, the man in charge, via written memo. Mr. Casablancas, who died in 2013, was said to advise Mr. Marie simply to be more cautious in the future. Mr. Casablancas was in no position to offer a moral counter example. What he described as his affair with the model Stephanie Seymour took place when she was 15 and he was 41. He was married at the time but that relationship ended. At 51, he married again, this time to a 17-year-old.

It takes only a quick saunter through the annals of recent history to realize how little cultural condemnation was directed at this sort of behavior. Even as recently as 2017, just eight months before the #MeToo movement exploded, Netflix released the documentary “Casablancas: The Man Who Loved Women,” directed by a former Elite booker, Hubert Woroniecki, who told The Wall Street Journal that it was not his job to “make an investigation.” (The article in which that quote appeared ran under the headline: “A New Netflix Documentary Tells the Story of Elite Model Management’s Colorful Founder.”)

I asked Ms. Sutton what she hoped to gain by bringing her case at this moment, just as the deadline was closing. She said she was motivated in large part by her anger over Bill Cosby’s release from prison, and by watching her two daughters enter adolescence only to see clearly how young and unformed girls of that age really are. “They are children,’’ she told me. A lawsuit like this also comes with the potential to encourage other victims to come forward.”

She is about the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I’m sorry she’s encountered so much unhappiness.

Michael Gross' book "Model: The Ugly Business Of Beautiful Women" gives the impression that John Casablancas and all those hetero men who worked within the Modeling Industry back in the day were fucking those teenaged models silly.

More about Gerald Marie's predatory sleaze. It looks like Otis might have a very good case. Horrible man. I wanna hear what Evangebeasta has to say...

Do we believe this?

[Quote]Speaking exclusively to the Guardian, she said: “During my relationship with Gérald Marie, I knew nothing of these sexual allegations against him, so I was unable to help these women. Hearing them now, and based on my own experiences, I believe that they are telling the truth. It breaks my heart, because these are wounds that may never heal, and I admire their courage and strength for speaking up today.”

R5 That is from Linda? Yes, I do believe her.

by Anonymousreply 6August 15, 2021 5:55 AM

Yes. That was Linda's statement.

by Anonymousreply 7August 15, 2021 6:21 AM

Linda Evangelista is famously stupid, so believe her.

by Anonymousreply 8August 15, 2021 5:23 PM

Carre talked about it in her book. Linda was a bitch to her because she thought she instigated and was trying to steal her gross old boyfriend. Really made me dislike Linda. Carre's book is really good.

by Anonymousreply 9August 15, 2021 5:28 PM

Linda is full of shit.

The fashion industry is just as sleazy and predatory as Hollywood. I'm sure Linda was aware of what was going on (just like Hollywood was aware of Harvey Weinstein long ago). She just looked the other way.

^^ after throwing her own legs open wide

by Anonymousreply 13August 15, 2021 9:52 PM

This is in her memoir. Otis explicitly states the encounter was not consensual.

by Anonymousreply 14August 15, 2021 9:55 PM

Very strange but funny, Eileen Ford dismissed Otis because the length of her leg between the knee and ankle was "too short".

by Anonymousreply 15August 15, 2021 10:00 PM

I wonder if Julian Casablancas inherited his dad's sleaziness or he went 100% asexual.

by Anonymousreply 16August 15, 2021 10:36 PM

It’s interesting that Brooke Shields, who was the public elect poster girl for sexual exploitation in that era, seemingly was never exposed to this kind of abuse.

Terri Shields had a lot of failings as a (n alcoholic) mom, but she would have beat the literal shit out of anyone who laid a hand on her daughter.

[quote]R15 Eileen Ford dismissed Otis because the length of her leg between the knee and ankle was "too short".

The Fords didn’t specialize in sexy models like Otis. Their standards were very old school and formulaic.

John Casablanca was in sharp contrast, in that he really sold his agency’s models in a soft porn, pinup style. Which definitely sold, but was sleazier.

Carre’s look would have sent Eileen Ford round the bend:

The rapist Frenchman looks so stereotypically sleazy in that Post article. You know he's vile and REEKS of the oily hair, body odor and disgusting cigarettes smoked end to end.

by Anonymousreply 19August 15, 2021 11:53 PM

Ford promoted Anglo American blonde blue eyed types, Christy Brinkley types turned her on. Ford also rejected Janice Dickinson as too ethnic looking with a dismissive insult about the size of Dickinson's mouth.

Otis wrote about that encounter with Casablanca before metoo was co-opted by Zlist Hollywood types looking for a payday. She specifically wrote it wasn't consensual.

by Anonymousreply 20August 15, 2021 11:53 PM

R17 Totally. Teri was a controlling virago but no stage mother and she kept a tight leash on Brooke.

by Anonymousreply 21August 15, 2021 11:55 PM

Mom was pimping her golden child out. Talk about narcissistic! Brooke got all her good looks from dad who was also gorgeous. Mom exploited and lived through the child. A hint of Teri's nastiness makes in the fabled Warhol diary.

[Quote]Ford promoted Anglo American blonde blue eyed types, Christy Brinkley types turned her on

I guess she changed that M.O.

[Quote]. By the mid-1980s, drug-addicted blonde models were out, and more professional, brunette-haired models such as Cindy Crawford, Renée Simonsen, Carol Alt, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington came on the scene.

Money is a great motivator.

by Anonymousreply 24August 16, 2021 12:20 AM

$$$

by Anonymousreply 25August 16, 2021 12:22 AM

R23 And then the “Model Wars” started and John Casablancas / Elite stole many of them. The documentary was a total puff piece but great footage.

Accusing her of just wanting money is pretty sad. Gerald Marie is a known predator, these claims didn't come from nowhere.

(Weird that DL never throws "They want money" claims at the males who sued the church, the Boy Scouts, or Penn State)

by Anonymousreply 27August 16, 2021 12:28 AM

She was ungodly beautiful, but treated in an ugly way by so many men.

by Anonymousreply 28August 16, 2021 12:48 AM

R20 "Otis wrote about that encounter with Casablanca before metoo was co-opted by Zlist Hollywood types looking for a payday. She specifically wrote it wasn't consensual."

And before that Gross' book in 1995 were thinly veiled accounts of Casablanca's doing. Among them was the story of a 13-year old model who was forced to have sex with him. Casablancas was 38 when he had an affair with the 16-year old Stephanie Seymour.

Otis didn't need Ford. She had her first cover for the French 'Elle' in 1986, appeared almost exclusively in European fashion shows before she hit the US market starting with ads for Guess (1988). In the 1980s/90s Elite in Paris was the most important model agency but it was led by a notorious monster, which was - despite no online gossip - more whispered about than Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein.

by Anonymousreply 29August 16, 2021 12:58 AM

I don't see that anyone here has accused Carre of just wanting money. Posters have actually been sympathetic, unlike posters on the Prince Andrew gets sued thread.

She seems to have a very contented life with her family (and hot, geeky scientist husband).

[quote]R28 She was ungodly beautiful

Yes. Blondes can be pretty, but I find darker haired women like Ottis, Liv Tyler, or Talisa Soto to be more dramatic looking.

"Michael Gross' book "Model: The Ugly Business Of Beautiful Women" gives the impression that John Casablancas and all those hetero men who worked within the Modeling Industry back in the day were fucking those teenaged models silly.

I remember that book! It was full of the most amazing dirt, it wasn't just the Ted Casablancas types who were screwing the mid-teen models (age 13-16), celebrities like Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, and Roman Polanski were named as well. According to this book, which was published and therefore had to get through the publisher's libel lawyers, Polanski would hold parties in France where all the guests were female models under 15,or rich/famous men over forty, and the guests definitely included Beatty and Nicholson.

Great book, if you can find a copy. The underlying message of the book was that the modelling industry went to hell when straight men got involved, because when the modelling industry was run by women and gays it was competitive and bitchy... but when the straight men came in things got dangerous for the girls.
