Which television couples, from series past or present, did or do you find convincing?
Believable Television Couples

Ward and June.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 13, 2021 9:13 AM |
Richard and Hyacinth. They would have been even more believable in a crossover episode with Agatha Christie's Marple in which Mrs Bouquet is found with her head smashed in and Jane Marple is unable to pin the crime on anyone specific because so many people hated Hyacinth and would have gladly murdered the annoying š®.

When I was growing up, you had Lucy and Desi; Harriet and Ozzie. I was crushed when my Mom told me that the other shows, such as Ward and June were not married. I literally could not get that in my head.

Weirdly, Ian and Mickey on Shamless, though I think much of that had to do with the actorās natural chemistry then anything supplied in the writing.

Don and Betty Draper
Frasier and Lilith

"As Time Goes By" was a fucking twee and awful show but Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer had great chemistry and made a very believable couple.

Darrin and Samantha Stevens--with both Darrins!
When Dick York played Darrin, they seemed like newlyweds where Darrin was wildly in love with Samantha (which was true in real life--Dick York had a mad crush on Elizabeth Montgomery). When Dick Sargent took over the role, Darrin and Samantha seemed like happily settled partners who really deepy cared for one another (because in real life Dick Sargent and Elizabeth Montgomery were best friends).
(To this day, I think Dick Sargent was the luckiest gay man ever because he got to be best friends with Montgomery, who was beautiful, talented, funny, liberal, and kind.)

The fat fuck Jim Belushi and the pretty blonde who played his wife in the awful "According to Jim" show were definitely in the category of unbelievable spouses: ugly, fat slob of a (not rich or powerful) husband paired with a younger, very attractive wife.

Olivia and John Walton. They were a sort of a couple in real life, but didn't pursue it further...thought it might ruin their dynamics for the show. Supposedly, they really were in love.

My mother liked Bewitched but always maintained that the marriage never would've lasted in real life. She said there's no way in hell Darrin (or any other man for that matter) would have stayed and gone through that kind of hell with his wife's family.

This is why Darrin # 2 was inferior. Darrin # 1 appeared to be so in love with Samantha, he'd endure Endora, et al. Darrin # 2 would have taken off and moved to San Francisco.

That Jim Belushi thing on the other hand....ew, he's a total fuggo.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 14, 2021 5:35 PM |
The Kevin James character. Possible that when the couple met, he was not fat. The got married, he gained weight after marriage. High school athlete type of deal. Looks great in high school but then puts on too much weight later.
Jim Belushi, not attractive.
All the couples on Seinfeld (except Elaine and Puddy & Mr./Mrs. Costanza): not believable.

Kevin James was hot in Hitch, I'll give him that.
