Believable Television Couples

Which television couples, from series past or present, did or do you find convincing?

by Anonymousreply 97August 16, 2021 3:39 PM

Ward and June.

by Anonymousreply 1August 13, 2021 9:13 AM

Richard and Hyacinth. They would have been even more believable in a crossover episode with Agatha Christie's Marple in which Mrs Bouquet is found with her head smashed in and Jane Marple is unable to pin the crime on anyone specific because so many people hated Hyacinth and would have gladly murdered the annoying 🐮.

by Anonymousreply 2August 13, 2021 9:17 AM

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson

by Anonymousreply 3August 13, 2021 6:03 PM

When I was growing up, you had Lucy and Desi; Harriet and Ozzie. I was crushed when my Mom told me that the other shows, such as Ward and June were not married. I literally could not get that in my head.

by Anonymousreply 4August 13, 2021 6:15 PM

Oliver and Lisa

by Anonymousreply 5August 13, 2021 6:17 PM

Dan and Roseanne. Before every network went with a slob fat husband and a no nonsense cute wife they would never get in real life without money.

by Anonymousreply 6August 13, 2021 6:20 PM

Allison and Joe DuBois, Medium

by Anonymousreply 7August 13, 2021 6:23 PM

Maggie and Jason Seaver from Growing Pains. They deny it, but please, they were fucking while filming.

by Anonymousreply 8August 13, 2021 6:26 PM

Chandler and Joey

by Anonymousreply 9August 13, 2021 6:26 PM

Tony Soprano and Carmela Soprano.

by Anonymousreply 10August 13, 2021 6:26 PM

Coach Taylor and Tami from Friday Night Lights

by Anonymousreply 11August 13, 2021 6:28 PM

Sam and Diane.

J.R. and Sue Ellen.

Larry and Balki.

by Anonymousreply 12August 13, 2021 6:30 PM

Anna Devane and Duke Lavery on General Hospital. They were hot!

by Anonymousreply 13August 13, 2021 6:35 PM

Weirdly, Ian and Mickey on Shamless, though I think much of that had to do with the actor’s natural chemistry then anything supplied in the writing.

by Anonymousreply 14August 13, 2021 6:39 PM

Don and Betty Draper

Frasier and Lilith

by Anonymousreply 15August 13, 2021 6:41 PM

Ex-hippies Steven & Elyse Keaton, of "Family Ties". Michael Gross & DL fave Meredith Baxter were excellent in those well-written roles.

by Anonymousreply 16August 13, 2021 6:51 PM

[quote] that had to do with the actor’s natural chemistry then anything supplied in the writing.

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2021 6:55 PM

Weezy and George Jefferson.

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2021 6:57 PM

Drake & Josh

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2021 6:57 PM

Charles and Caroline Ingalls

by Anonymousreply 20August 13, 2021 6:58 PM

Melissa and Lance on Falcon Crest; their love-hate relationship probably resulted in intense, lengthy sexual encounters.

by Anonymousreply 21August 13, 2021 6:59 PM

Gilligan & the Skipper.

by Anonymousreply 22August 13, 2021 6:59 PM

Karen and Mack on Knots Landing

by Anonymousreply 23August 13, 2021 7:18 PM

Ken Barlow and Wendy Crozier.

Ken should have made Wendy the 4th Mrs Barlow. He needed a woman who was his intellectual equal.

by Anonymousreply 24August 13, 2021 7:19 PM

Michael and Hope Steadman on Thirtysomething …… Jim and Pam Halpert on The Office

by Anonymousreply 25August 13, 2021 7:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 26August 13, 2021 7:27 PM

Jonathan and Jennifer Hart.

by Anonymousreply 27August 13, 2021 7:28 PM

Bert & Ernie.

by Anonymousreply 28August 13, 2021 7:29 PM

R25 Michael was way too hot for homely Hope.

by Anonymousreply 29August 13, 2021 7:29 PM

Colonel Wilhelm Klink and Sergeant Hans Schulz

by Anonymousreply 30August 13, 2021 7:36 PM

Another vote for Dan and Roseanne.

"As Time Goes By" was a fucking twee and awful show but Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer had great chemistry and made a very believable couple.

by Anonymousreply 31August 13, 2021 8:01 PM

Of course Charles and Carolyn (R20), good choice. I'll add Mac and Rachel Cory.

by Anonymousreply 32August 14, 2021 12:57 AM

Mike and Gloria.

by Anonymousreply 33August 14, 2021 1:07 AM

Ned & Maude Flanders

by Anonymousreply 34August 14, 2021 1:20 AM

Darrin and Samantha Stevens--with both Darrins!

When Dick York played Darrin, they seemed like newlyweds where Darrin was wildly in love with Samantha (which was true in real life--Dick York had a mad crush on Elizabeth Montgomery). When Dick Sargent took over the role, Darrin and Samantha seemed like happily settled partners who really deepy cared for one another (because in real life Dick Sargent and Elizabeth Montgomery were best friends).

(To this day, I think Dick Sargent was the luckiest gay man ever because he got to be best friends with Montgomery, who was beautiful, talented, funny, liberal, and kind.)

by Anonymousreply 35August 14, 2021 1:36 AM

*"deeply," not "deepy"

by Anonymousreply 36August 14, 2021 1:37 AM

Bonnie and Adam on 'Mom'

David Muir and Michael Strahan.

by Anonymousreply 51August 14, 2021 8:56 AM

The fat fuck Jim Belushi and the pretty blonde who played his wife in the awful "According to Jim" show were definitely in the category of unbelievable spouses: ugly, fat slob of a (not rich or powerful) husband paired with a younger, very attractive wife.

by Anonymousreply 52August 14, 2021 8:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 63August 14, 2021 1:10 PM

Paula and Scott - Crazy ex-girlfriend

by Anonymousreply 65August 14, 2021 1:51 PM

Florida and James Evans on Good Times

by Anonymousreply 67August 14, 2021 2:06 PM

Olivia and John Walton. They were a sort of a couple in real life, but didn't pursue it further...thought it might ruin their dynamics for the show. Supposedly, they really were in love.

by Anonymousreply 68August 14, 2021 2:22 PM

ruin *the dynamics.... ^^

by Anonymousreply 69August 14, 2021 2:23 PM

[quote]Weezy and George Jefferson.

Oh please!!! Isabel was old enough to be Sherman's mother.

by Anonymousreply 70August 14, 2021 2:26 PM

[quote]Kevin whoever and Leah Remini were the epitome of that, right? That guy was a bit fat but handsome as can be.

Ah no. He wasn't a bit fat, he was morbidly obese and he wasn't even cute much less handsome.

by Anonymousreply 71August 14, 2021 2:27 PM

Bud Bundy and his hand

by Anonymousreply 72August 14, 2021 2:29 PM

EJ and Will

by Anonymousreply 73August 14, 2021 2:56 PM

[quote]Darrin and Samantha Stevens

My mother liked Bewitched but always maintained that the marriage never would've lasted in real life. She said there's no way in hell Darrin (or any other man for that matter) would have stayed and gone through that kind of hell with his wife's family.

by Anonymousreply 74August 14, 2021 3:03 PM

Kevin and Scotty on Brothers & Sisters

by Anonymousreply 75August 14, 2021 3:04 PM

This is why Darrin # 2 was inferior. Darrin # 1 appeared to be so in love with Samantha, he'd endure Endora, et al. Darrin # 2 would have taken off and moved to San Francisco.

by Anonymousreply 76August 14, 2021 3:11 PM

Maddie and David - Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis of Moonlighting. Don't any of you remember it?

[quote] Kevin whoever and Leah Remini were the epitome of that, right? That guy was a bit fat but handsome as can be.

Indeed. He was at least fit-fat and handsome.

That Jim Belushi thing on the other hand....ew, he's a total fuggo.

by Anonymousreply 81August 14, 2021 5:35 PM

The Kevin James character. Possible that when the couple met, he was not fat. The got married, he gained weight after marriage. High school athlete type of deal. Looks great in high school but then puts on too much weight later.

Jim Belushi, not attractive.

All the couples on Seinfeld (except Elaine and Puddy & Mr./Mrs. Costanza): not believable.

by Anonymousreply 82August 14, 2021 5:42 PM

Kevin James was hot in Hitch, I'll give him that.

by Anonymousreply 83August 14, 2021 5:43 PM

That’s exactly what happened to Kevin James in real life. He was quite the hottie in high school.
