The shooter was an American wannabe.
The man suspected of killing five people before turning the gun on himself in a mass shooting in England on Thursday night was a Trump supporter who posted about “devil worshipers” and pedophiles in government.
The suspected shooter has been named locally as Jake Davison. He allegedly killed three females and two males dead in the port city of Plymouth in the worst mass shooting in Britain since 2010.
Before the shooting, he expressed his support for Donald Trump on his Facebook page and posted multiple self-pitying YouTube videos about how he looked, often using language common in the incel community. On his Facebook page, Davison claimed to be from Arizona, but his distinctive accent is typical of people from the south-west of England.
In one post from 2018, Davison shared a Trump quote and, when his friends made fun of him in the comments, he hit back: “Trump has proved time and time again he is indeed for the people. You may not agree with his political views (I do) but he is different from the scum like Hillary or the people running our country like the neo-con sellout that is [then-British Prime Minister] Theresa May.”
Further down in the comments, Davison wrote about conspiracy theories that sound similar to those pushed by QAnon believers, writing: “Scepticism of government is key and everyone should be ready and prepared for anything bad that could happen. I am aware much of the government is deeply flawed there are many paedophiles and even reported devil worshipers people that sell us out to foreign countries.”
Davison’s Facebook likes suggest that he was obsessed with conservative U.S. politics. He followed the pages of Trump, all of his children, and several Trump businesses, as well as pages for the NRA, Fox News, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and one called “Ted Nugent for President.”

by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 13, 2021 1:28 PM |
Not true R10. Of course it’s possible to get guns in the U.K. Gangsters get them illegally, farmers and hunters etc get them legally. They are strictly regulated, which is likely why this is the first U.K. mass shooting in 11 years rather than the US norm of 11 days (hours?).
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 13, 2021 2:11 PM |
What these incels always forget is that the 10 women they are so desperate to fuck and date are still females with female expectations. It’s not smooth sailing or different than any other straight relationship just because the women you’re with is beautiful with a model body.
Megan Fox still probably has to nag MGK about visiting family and behaving well, picking up clothes and dressing appropriately for public events, getting a better paying gig so they can upgrade to a better McMansion, preparing to support and raise kids, etc. And I’m sure both of them still worry about cheating, STDs, fights, quality time vs. social time, their public stock when with the other, where to get lunch on pap strolls. It’s all the same shit in prettier more expensive paper.
Incels reveal themselves with this contradiction. What they truly want is a porn robot with limited intelligence I.e. a drooling slave too stupid and brain-fried and dependent to say no to anything sexual no matter how disgusting, that also has the warm fuzzy personality of Mom I.e. cooks and cleans for them, comforts them, priorities them, and lets them play videogames with their incel friends all day every day instead of holding down a family or a job.

He was a licensed gun holder. Hopefully, this will lead to a further tightening of the regulations as there are a few loopers in rural communities who have guns and really shouldn’t.

The police in that area are going to be investigated for allowing this man to have a licence. Good. He had a blatant history of extremist views; someone in the licencing office seriously messed up, and now five innocent people are dead. I also foresee another tightening of the firearms rules.

Over half a million people in the UK have Shotgun licenses in the UK (about 1% of the Adult population).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 13, 2021 10:27 PM |
R20 my Dad (now into his sixties) had a licensed 12 gauge up until about five years ago, when my poor old mum finally had enough of him crawling about the neighbour’s paddock for rabbit & hares. Unbeknownst to her, he still goes out with our dog and a pellet gun to have a pop at them.
He’s been a hunter all his life, and being rural it’s in his blood. He’s not realistically going to change at this point, no matter what my mum or the government or the local council or the media say.
But it’s different with us country folk—we have an ethics to our gun use, as well as technical knowhow and a respect for our quarry, which makes us responsible enough to have firearms (well, most of us). Put a gun in the hand of a townie neckbeard who’s never even held a real weapon outside a videogame or a firing range—let alone actually been through the psychological and emotional process to kill other living things—and you’re asking for it.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 13, 2021 11:04 PM |
Controversial opinion, but I really think all boys and young men (yes, even the gay ones) should be made to hunt and shoot/kill at least one animal in their lifetime, as a way to learn emotional control, gain healthy fear for and understanding of weaponry, and to build empathy for other creatures and understand real implications of killing them.
Because killing with weapons isn’t real enough to a lot of these lads; to their psyche, it’s a fun cathartic way to succeed and score points in simulated games with their mates, not a painful harsh part of real life and survival that demands you to question the nature of existence. Half of kids don’t even know from whence their meat comes—how can they connect that to the irrevocable damage a gun in their hand can do to human flesh?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 13, 2021 11:11 PM |
R22 Probably not a great idea, the UK's heavily regulated gun ownership laws work pretty well and are likely to be tightened even further because of this incident.
One mass shooting every ten or so years when half a million people have access to legal guns is an astonishingly good average.
Mental health should be the first priority of the Government though. Prior to 1987 mass shootings were unheard of in the UK and it has a strong correlation to the under funding of mental health services here.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 13, 2021 11:44 PM |
R23 thanks for the response.
FWIW I agree with you that mental & emotional health crises among men are not treated seriously or intensively enough, and that these problems can often lead to horrific acts of violence. Underfunding of these sectors of social health across the board is a ticking time bomb that the government seem to be ignoring.
However, I also contend—again, possibly controversially—that many emotional and psychological problems in our people today stem from a lack of connection with community, with land, with the world around, and that forging an understanding the brutality and the peace of how living beings interact or coexist is a fundamental that is missing. I don’t believe we are a society of sick people, but a society of inwardly dispossessed people who have lost their way and become entrenched in seductive fantasy worlds of entitlement. That is why I posited the idea that I did. For the record, I wasn’t advocating to gift every teen boy a gun and let him loose; more the notion that schools or communities make sure that youngsters (even girls as well) get short courses of highly supervised training from responsible weapons’ users. Imo knowledge & experience in contextual settings usually defeats the ignorance that leads to senseless criminal acts.
FWIW if it wasn’t clear, I am a Brit myself, lived here all my life, and do know the ownership laws quite well. I think your prediction about changes will come about, and will have no effect on the desired targets (and a deleterious effect on everyone else). Adults with empathy and reason and the utmost consideration for safety shouldn’t be banned from hunting or protecting their property, because one fat spoiled and stupid young conspiracy loon from the city who wouldn’t get therapy loses control.

R24 I live in Manchester and we have shootings on a smaller scale between drug gangs (mainly with shotguns) so I'm not totally insulated from it.
A sizeable section of my family lived in Wiltshire (nr Mere) when I was younger and worked on farms, so I'm pretty familiar with guns and a more rural way of life. The tightening of gun ownership won't achieve anything as you can't legislate mentally ill people out of existence.
The main problem with mental healthcare in the UK is that it's brilliant if you are criminally insane, Broadmoor, Park Lane etc are excellent secure care facilities. Unfortunately below that there is nothing - 'care in the community' is barely funded and as bad as the old mental hospitals were they provided a place that people felt safe.
I don't think that it's a vote winner though so nothing will change.

R26, he wrote that he'd never asked a woman out and that women were generally nice to him. Unless he only wanted 10/10 women (which is a thing with some incels), I don't see any reason why he couldn't get a girlfriend if he only actually talked to them, was nice to them, and asked them out.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 14, 2021 5:10 AM |
I mean, women are socialised to be passive and wait for men to hit on them. In my experience some women do pursue men but only if they find him to be really hot, which this dude isn't really. Davison also wrote that he's been in heavily male environments, firstly at the school he went to and secondly at his workplace (crane operator) so that was another issue. A lot of people meet their partners through school or work.

R31 occasional rabbiting makes someone a piece of shit? What sort of quivering city rat are you?
We kill rabbits—which by the by breed like rabbits, as the saying goes—as a method of humane population control and resource management in the larger ecosystems. Rabbits will eat and breed themselves to extinction, given chance. We also shoot them as a way to protect crops that become the food you eat.
R33 I didn’t expect anyone to agree with me, but I did expect an intelligent and well-thought out rebuttal rather than just “you’re crazy”. Knowing men and knowing the nature of humankind, I still believe my idea is a good and reasonable one. We all have to learn to accept the implications of death & violence, and in so doing we can moderate it and lessen it. But try telling that to a gangbanger...
Think it through before you type, lads. And perhaps try to see beyond the confines of the rat traps you live in, to understand there is wider world outside that functions on ancient and immutable laws.

So basically an incel is self-made through unrealistic standards? When they look like THAT guy? That guy would have been lucky to get a 5/10. Add in his steroid use, lunacy and teeth - and that drops even lower.

R52 The first gun laws weren't introduced until 1870 and that was only a requirement to have a license to carry a pistol.
The first proper gun regulations came about in 1920, then tightened in 1937 (banning most fully automatic weapons)
1968 saw all of the individual laws consolidated.
They imposed more restrictions in 1988 after The Hungerford Massacre and even more after Dunblane in 1996, when Thomas Hamilton murdered 16 elementary (primary) school children and their teacher with four legally-held pistols.
Tennis player Andy Murray and his Brother Jamie were pupils at Dunblane Primary School and in the school at the time of the slaughter.

Apparently Jake was on the autism spectrum (I'm guessing Asperger's) and went to a special school. Here's what one of his old teachers thinks:
[quote]"Mr Williams, who taught English, drama and music to Davison at Mount Tamar special school in the Devon city said: ‘You have to ask, what the hell were they thinking giving him this licence? If you ask anyone who was involved in Jake’s schooling whether giving him a licence was a good idea, they would all tell you absolutely not. How is it possible that a police officer read Jake’s history of obsessive compulsive disorder, anger issues and depression and concluded he should be allowed to own a firearm? It was a catastrophic mistake with utterly tragic consequences. Something went badly awry and you can’t help but feel this whole tragedy could have been avoided. There will be serious questions now about who is responsible for all this happening. I’m imagining what we, his teachers, would have thought about the prospect of him requesting a gun licence. We would probably have laughed in disbelief to be honest.’
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 15, 2021 9:29 AM |
More from teacher:
[quote]Mr Williams, who taught the killer when he was aged 14 to 16, recalled how Davison’s obsession with guns developed as a boy. He said: ‘He used to have books and books about guns. Whenever I put a film on in class which had a gun in it, he would instantly recognise it and knew the exact make and model. I remember him saying: “Oh, that’s a Glock” and he would be right. His mum Maxine and I decided to try to help him get into the Army Cadets as an outlet for his fascination. She was extremely supportive and only wanted to do the best for him, and I remember going out to help get him boots.’ Mr Williams said Davison’s autism diagnosis should also have barred him from holding a shotgun licence. He questioned whether the 22-year-old had been receiving adequate care in recent years and believed that the killer would have had a ‘bright future’ if he had been given the right support.
