Long Beach Airport

Is it really as cute and uncrowded as the reviews/pictures seem to reveal? I’m flying there in a week because I have vowed never to utilize LAX again; life’s too short and valuable to deal with the stress of that chaotic scene. Anyway, if anyone has any tips or suggestions, please share. I’ll be in LA for business (and hopefully some pleasure) and have a rental car.

Even better ... Ontario Airport.

There will be signs to the car rental places clearly marked or you can ask someone.

What other tips or suggestions do you need?

Long Beach is not cute. Going south, Seal Beach is cute (but kind of fake touristy), and then you hit Huntington Beach (more city like) and Laguna Beach (rich people). Going north toward LA, Hermosa Beach is not exactly cute but it has a chill, neighborly surf/punk vibe, and Manhattan Beach is cute but in a snotty rich people way. All of these towns have good places to stop for lunch or coffee and then spend some time watching the ocean and surfers. Keep going north and you hit the more famous LA areas like Venice.

R3, I believe OP was asking specifically about the Long Beach Airport (at least that's what the thread title would suggest). Yes, LGB is a very "cute" airport. The baggage claim is partially outdoors. You simply walk across a small street to get to the car rental places. Because it's so tiny there are almost no amenities when it's time to depart from there. I flew through their once and I thought it was so awesome.

R4 - thank you! That’s the reassurance I was looking for. Sometimes it’s nice to hear an actual person’s opinion instead of a Google review.

Hermosa beach has a "surf/punk" vibe, R3? Maybe in the 1970s, but now it's full of former USC fraternity bros just like the rest of the South Bay.

Thank goodness. Now you can be prepared and know what to expect.

R7 - I know I may sound silly, but I’m taking edibles on the flight and need to not be paranoid!

R3 Maybe not to you, but Long Beach is actually a great town.
