Or is heat heat?
Does food taste better reheated in an oven instead of a microwave?

Depends on the food you're reheating.

I do not like microwaved food-ugh. Rather reheat in an oven.

Or is rape rape?

Microwaves fundamentally boil food in their own juices. They work by heating the water molecules. It's why making things crispy in a microwave is very difficult.
So, consider that when deciding how to reheat your food.

Microwave heating will turn certain foods into mush. Such as bread.
But the oven must be used judiciously lest you burn the item you are reheating.
Buy an airfryer, OP.

I like the toaster oven for pizza & anything fried, otherwise nuke it.

Potatoes taste better after reheating in the oven or air fryer. I precook potatoes in the microwave and cool at room temp before refrigerating overnight. This is so that the carbs in potatoes develop into resistant starch which is healthier for gut health. I reheat them either in the oven or air fryer, usually I eat them like oven fries.

Most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between food heated in an oven or a microwave. The usual Princess and the Pea queens will of course clutch pearls snd swoon.

You ALWAYS reheat soup in the oven, OP.

Nothing is necessarily better tasting when heated in a microwave oven, however I think the following taste better when cooked the first time in one.
Potatoes (esp for mash)
Carrots
Artichokes
Asparagus
Broccoli Rabe
R8 Taste aside, sometimes textures are ruined by reheating in a microwave oven. I prefer re-heating leftover meat or chicken in broth or gravy in a saucepan, as microwaves can render them both tough. Things which have been previously frozen like stews, curries, soups, etc can easily be ruined as well. Sauces break, fats seperate, and so on. No comment on peas, queens, or pearls!

Ummm... if you don't want to nuke your delicate soup, wouldn't you reheat it on the stove top rather than in the oven, R9?

I suppose I just thought of one for you OP... RICE. Pasta turns out badly, but rice comes out percectly tasting IMHO.

R1 + R8 = truth
Also depends on how cold the food was to start (refrigerator or freezer) and how hot you want it.

Most food does not reheat well in a microwave. Texture changes and, IMO, loses flavor. I'm always salting food after the microwave. There's a reason why a lot of frozen microwave meals are sodium bombs.

Agree R14 --to expand on what I said at R13, if you are reheating something from the refrigerator and just want it warmed up some, the microwave is fine, most foods won't be in there long enough to mess up the texture.
But cooking from frozen is rarely a good move.

Anything mashed is better reheated in the microwave, also rice.
A great shortcut for fried onions is to microwave them first (you can even let them cook all the way for hotdogs etc).

I recommend a skillet for reheating pizza. That will crisp the crust as well as melting the cheese.
