"Who all"

I've heard this a few times as in "Who all is going to the party?". Is this an American regionalism and, if so, what region(s)? I think the people who I heard say were from the lower Midwest (Missouri or Kansas).

Hoosier here. Sounds totally normal.

by Anonymousreply 1August 11, 2021 8:29 PM

Well, I've never not heard it in all my life.

by Anonymousreply 2August 11, 2021 8:32 PM

"Okay, I mean, who all is even going to the party?" is much more of a 2021 way to ask that question.

by Anonymousreply 3August 11, 2021 8:33 PM

The first time I heard it was when I moved to Texas...the answer is usually "You all (Y'all)"

by Anonymousreply 4August 11, 2021 8:34 PM

I was in one of the tennis threads and asked “who all is playing today?” - someone linked an article about the phrase “who all” and didn’t answer my fucking question…

by Anonymousreply 5August 11, 2021 8:35 PM

What was the question, R5?

by Anonymousreply 6August 11, 2021 8:37 PM

[quote] "Who all is going to the party?"

Who all goin'?

Jus Poochie an them.

Rest-a us ain't messin wit it.

by Anonymousreply 7August 11, 2021 8:51 PM

Normal speech in St. Louis and environs.

by Anonymousreply 8August 11, 2021 8:54 PM

I forget which tournament R6 (maybe the Olympics and I can’t look back since all our threads keep getting deleted!) but I just asked “who all is playing today?”

I just thought it was funny that I got called out for that and still didn’t get an answer. 😂 Why take the time to link an article about my random phrase?

by Anonymousreply 9August 11, 2021 9:26 PM

R9, you should’ve asked “Who all is GOAT?” That would’ve generated numerous vitriolic responses.

by Anonymousreply 10August 11, 2021 9:29 PM

Yup, I’m 50 a d although haven’t lived in Kansas since I was 22, I still say it.

by Anonymousreply 11August 11, 2021 9:38 PM

Who all says this?

by Anonymousreply 12August 12, 2021 12:22 AM

Haha! “Who all”.

by Anonymousreply 13August 13, 2021 9:21 PM

Todo el mundo!

by Anonymousreply 14August 13, 2021 9:22 PM

I've said that on more than one occasion and was born and raised in Chicago. But I would never say you all or y'all, but you guys... that's Chicagoese second person plural.

by Anonymousreply 15August 13, 2021 9:23 PM

[quote] The first time I heard it was when I moved to Texas...the answer is usually "You all (Y'all)"

"All y'all" would be an an alternate, acceptable answer.

by Anonymousreply 16August 13, 2021 9:29 PM

If you're invited to a party and you're not sure if you want to go to the party, then you ask:

[quote] Who all is going?

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2021 9:30 PM

R17, why not just ask “Who is going?”

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2021 9:32 PM

I heard this whenever I made my First Communion. The priest asked: who all is going to the reception?

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2021 9:45 PM

Is “who all” the cousin of “y’all”?

I heard they totally fucked, btw. 😱

by Anonymousreply 20August 13, 2021 10:28 PM

Pennsylvania here. I am sure I've said it more than once.

by Anonymousreply 21August 14, 2021 2:23 AM

Youse is an acceptable alternative.

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2021 5:33 AM

R22 = Pittsburger.

They must be native West Virginians.

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2021 3:39 PM

Haha! “Who all”.

by Anonymousreply 25August 15, 2021 2:18 AM

From Maryland and I say both “who all” and “you all.” I never say “y’all” and I find it annoying when non-Southerners try to adopt “y’all” and act like it’s natural.

by Anonymousreply 26August 15, 2021 2:23 AM

Chinese Texans greet one another with a "Ni hao y'all".

[quote] Chinese Texans greet one another with a "Ni hao y'all".

Sum Ting Wong!

by Anonymousreply 28August 15, 2021 11:09 PM

Sounds normal to me. The second person plural equivalent is "all y'all." "Y'all" is a polite form of address and it grates on my nervous when people use it in an impersonal way.

by Anonymousreply 29August 15, 2021 11:12 PM

Do the children on Welcome to Plathville use this?

by Anonymousreply 30August 18, 2021 3:47 AM

New Yorker and Floridian and I have heard / said... Y'all, We all, and Who all. I don't think it's a regionalism.

by Anonymousreply 31August 18, 2021 4:09 AM

It's commonly used in southern Wisconsin, as well. Maybe it's just an Americanism?

by Anonymousreply 32August 18, 2021 6:09 AM

Haha. “Who all”

by Anonymousreply 33August 21, 2021 5:52 PM

I grew up in SoCal and moved to Chicago in the 90s and "who all" and "you guys" is common in both places.

by Anonymousreply 34August 21, 2021 6:17 PM

I grew up in New England and nobody said this. I recall hearing it from Texans and Californians I went to school with.

by Anonymousreply 35August 21, 2021 6:20 PM

Who all is definitely used in New York by many of its ethnic groups.

by Anonymousreply 36August 21, 2021 6:41 PM

“Who all”.

Haha. “Who all”.
