The history of Amos and Andy is quite fascinating. During the radio show, you had one of the largest Black papers in the country arguing against it, while another one celebrated it. During the radio show, while Amos, Andy and the Kingfish were played by the white creators, the supporting cast were Black, providing many jobs for Black actors.

One thing people forget about the tv show is that it was filled with Black characters, you wouldn't normally see on tv at the time. In addition to the regular characters they interacted with Black professionals. If the plot called for it they would interact with Black, cops, lawyers, judges, doctors, etc. They actually made it quite clear that the Kingfish and Andy were not typical of their race.

I would rather see Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry date.

Friends has never made me laugh. I have watched episodes on TV and recently watched clips on YouTube. Not a single chuckle has it gotten out of me. I can't believe it used a real studio audience. Yes Seinfeld nails the Northeast well. I'm from the Northeast and I've met many Jerry, Elaine and George types. I really don't get why people say it's such a Jewish show. It's really just a New York show with a main character who happens to be Jewish. NYC culture is heavily influenced by Jewish culture but it's also influenced by the cultures of practically every other ethnic group. It's a multicultural city.

Friends could have been set in any area and nothing would have been lost. The humor is so broad and the characters just fit standard sitcom cliches. If they didn't do those outside shots of NYC, you could have thought they lived in the urban Midwest or Southern California.
