Anyone live on the Mississippi coast?

Gulfport? Biloxi? Bay St. Louis? Ocean Springs? How are these places for our peeps? I have visited the area, and lived in other Red States, but the consensus seems to be that Mississippi is worst place for homosexers. The moderate weather and cheap real estate are tempting. Opinions?

They have that religious exemption law, don’t they?

I worked with some traveling nurses who lived in Ocean Springs, and they swore the coast was more liberal than the rest of the state because of the presence of casinos/tourists.

I have heard the same, R2

During the AIDS scare in the 1980s, the Biloxi Police Department compiled a list of local men suspected of being homosexual.

Chilling.

Coastal areas are always more liberal than areas farther inland. The coastal areas attract people from all over, not just from the general geographic area.

Most of the residential charms of the Mississippi coast were washed away by Hurricane Katrina. The little town of Ocean Springs was spared, but the rest from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi took a severe beating. Rebuilding homes directly facing the coast is too expensive because of insurance costs, so the area will never be the same.

Moderate weather? In Mississippi?

by Anonymousreply 7August 10, 2021 10:02 AM

I think I saw the other day that the dew points was 78 degrees in New Orleans. That's uninhabitable and would ruin my $75 perm.

I have a newish coworker from Ocean Springs, and she says it’s pretty liberal and diverse, at least by Mississippi standards.

by Anonymousreply 9August 10, 2021 11:46 AM

I was in Biloxi in August. It is one step above (and I mean one TINY step above) the Brazilian rain forest.

Stay away if you hate humidity.

Diverse for Mississippi probably means there's a Catholic family in town, or an Indian who owns one of the motels.

Mississippi's gulf Beach areas are not extensive, but what's there have some nice spots. There are some excellent, some quite trendy, restaurants and shops near the coast. Gay bars and dance clubs do exist. Mississippi did a much better job preparing and doing the recovery, compared to New Orleans/Louisiana. The tourist are mainly there for the casinos and deep sea fishing and boating in the gulf. Such a crowd tend to have more money than the average family vacationers. The rest of the state appeals to a certain type of vacationer; bass fishing in the rivers and lakes, camping, etc. Some people like to tour the old antebellum homes, parks, and historical sites such as Vicksburg. Those into antique hunting will enjoy shopping in some of the smaller towns. The delta region is flat and large numbers of poor citizens. People looking for theme parks, big city attractions, loads of diverse, international culture culture, pro-sports, and thrilling night life; Mississippi is not the place. The people are largely very cordial, but mostly conservative and fundamental religious. That doesn't apply to all, but most.

Wasn't Tig Notaro's TV series set in one of those towns- Bay St. Louis, I think?

Google Maps says Bay St Louis is only an hour from New Orleans--I guess you could always get your gay on there OP

by Anonymousreply 17August 16, 2021 1:35 PM

No you piece of SHIT fucktard R17 because unlike Covid, you can’t give someone HIV by simply breathing in their vicinity.

by Anonymousreply 18August 16, 2021 3:02 PM

nor fucktard was there a vaccine to prevent AIDS, unlike covid, which morons and magats shun to own the libs

by Anonymousreply 19August 16, 2021 6:45 PM

R17 I lived in Gulfport in the 80s. That did not happen. Biloxi has a large military base and a significant transient population.

by Anonymousreply 20August 17, 2021 2:50 PM

What about that hotbed of liberalism, Gulf Shores, AL?
