Celebrities Our Parents Hated

Inspired by comments in the Ann's Crisis thread: which celebrities did your parents hate?

Whenever Brenda Vaccarro's commercials for Playtex would air, my mother would yell, "That woman should be shot!"

by Anonymousreply 524September 13, 2021 6:25 PM

Thank you, OP!

I mentioned this in the Ann Romano thread, but my mother had a real hatred for Meredith Baxter and Kate Jackson.

She said Meredith tried too hard to be funny on Family Ties, to the point of making Elyse seem manic, and that she should have stayed doing drama (she loved her as Betty Broderick).

Walking into the room during Scarecrow and Mrs, King, she snapped that Kate Jackson was 'always so unconvincing.'

She stood by these decades later. I love both Meredith and Kate. Who can explain it?

My best friend's sister absolutely hates Judith Light, but I can't remember why. I knew at one time.

by Anonymousreply 1August 9, 2021 5:11 AM

My mom hated Olivia Newton-John. She'd complain about her awful voice anytime she showed up on TV or the radio.

by Anonymousreply 2August 9, 2021 5:20 AM

I love Brenda Vaccaro’s voice. The queen of gravel.

by Anonymousreply 3August 9, 2021 5:37 AM

Oh God, "Angie Dickinson and the three hairs she has left." My mother loathed her.

by Anonymousreply 4August 9, 2021 5:42 AM

My mother hates Bette Midler, especially “The Rose”. I’ve never found it terribly offensive. Barbra’s better anyway.

by Anonymousreply 5August 9, 2021 5:52 AM

My parents absolutely loathed Marlon Brando. I remember them making fun of him in "Streetcar" and I was surprised because I didn't know they'd ever seen the movie, they didn't have a VCR or cable and this was years before TCM, and they both said they hadn't ever seen the movie or in fact anything Marlon Brando was in except The Godfather, which they liked. Inexplicable. My parents just hated things for random reasons.

by Anonymousreply 6August 9, 2021 5:55 AM

That woman with two vaginas totally needed Playtex tampons. They lift and separate!

by Anonymousreply 7August 9, 2021 5:57 AM

Wasn't Brenda Vacarro too old to be pushing tampons?

by Anonymousreply 8August 9, 2021 8:24 AM

I think with my mom it would be better to say who she did like. People like Paul Newman and Robert Redford because they were hot and in her mind they could do no wrong. She also said people like Betty White and Dolly Parton had, “ Places in Heaven” because of Betty’s work with animals and Dolly’s work with literacy and just being an all-around good person.

One person who pops into my mind who she couldn’t stand was Jaclyn Smith. She always said she, “Had no face”. I still have no idea what that means.

My dad loathed Dana Delany and Whoopi Goldberg. I asked him one time about Dana Delany and he told me he had no idea, he just couldn’t stand her. He hated Whoopi until he saw Ghost and said she was terrific in that movie. He didn’t like Liza either, but loved her in Arthur and that was one of his favorite movies of all time. He said no one else could’ve played that role.

by Anonymousreply 9August 9, 2021 8:39 AM

My brother and I were not allowed to watch movies that featured Jane Fonda. That meant no 9 to 5, no Electric Horseman, and no California Suite -- those films were on heavy rotation on cable at the time. Our father was in the Vietnam War and got all huffy whenever Fonda appeared on TV for any reason. "A traitor to our country," he'd say to himself.

by Anonymousreply 10August 9, 2021 8:39 AM

I lived with my Grandmother most of the time and she loathed Dale Evans! Always calling her an old whore.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 11August 9, 2021 8:41 AM

Mick Jagger was really hated, also by the preppy babyboomer contingent.

by Anonymousreply 12August 9, 2021 8:48 AM

My mom hated Cybill Shepherd with a passion, probably at first because she had a hard time separating the actress from her Last Picture Show character. She hated her even more when she read in the gossip magazines how Peter Bogdanovich left his wife and family for Shepherd, saying the director "needed his ugly ass kicked!" She flat-out refused to watch anything Shepherd was in, and when she spotted Cybill's autobiography on my bookshelf, she asked "why'd you buy that bitch's book?!"

by Anonymousreply 13August 9, 2021 8:48 AM

My Dad couldn't stand Barbra Streisand. Her voice would aggravate his tinnitus. When he took us to see Hello, Dolly! ,because my Mom was a fan, he would dash to the lobby whenever a Streisand number would begin. My dad also disliked James Coburn. He said looking at him was like choosing to look at an anus for two hours. My Miom didn't like Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas or Lee Marvin. She felt they looked like rapists.

by Anonymousreply 14August 9, 2021 8:55 AM

My parents never mentioned hating any celebrities but my grandmother hated Danny Kaye. No idea why. But now I find him rather creepy myself.

by Anonymousreply 15August 9, 2021 9:00 AM

My mother hated Jack Lemon - thought he yelled too much.

My mother-in-law hated Cliff Robertson - because he once called her hometown “sleepy.”

by Anonymousreply 16August 9, 2021 10:03 AM

My mother didn’t care for Lucille Ball. She said Ball overacted, and mugged too much. I saw my mom’s point. I can only take Lucille Ball in small doses.

by Anonymousreply 17August 9, 2021 5:42 PM

Vera-Ellen, Alan King, Bill Haley

by Anonymousreply 18August 9, 2021 5:53 PM

My mom disliked June Allyson—one of the few things we agreed upon

by Anonymousreply 19August 9, 2021 5:56 PM

My mom hated Elvis Presley. She thought he was sin personified. I was too young to understand her hatred of the man, and when I found out who he was, I didn’t like his music anyway. Sorry, Mom.

by Anonymousreply 20August 9, 2021 6:20 PM

Bonnie Franklin

Cher

Melissa Manchester

Linda Lavin

Valerie Harper

by Anonymousreply 21August 9, 2021 6:22 PM

My Italian father would swear in disgust when Sonny and Cher came on TV. Usually he liked everyone who was Italian but not Sonny.

by Anonymousreply 22August 9, 2021 6:23 PM

My mother DESPISED Phylicia Rashad- It was almost funny.

We were huge Cosby Show fans in my house, but my mother thought that she was the fakest woman/actress who ever walked the face of the earth~

by Anonymousreply 23August 9, 2021 6:24 PM

Jane Fonda was referred to as Hanoi Jane in my family. It must have really chapped their asses when 9 to 5 was one of the first VHS tapes I ever bought with my birthday money.

I still believe history will be very kind to Jane. There's a woman who's always trying to do better, better herself, and become an ally to those who need help.

by Anonymousreply 24August 9, 2021 6:44 PM

Thanks for the thread, OP! As I mentioned in the “Ann’s Crisis” thread, my mother loathed Kathie Lee Gifford, who she perceived as an obnoxiously phony.

Other folks she didn’t like include Phyllis Newman (Mom always thought she seemed too pleased with herself!), Lauren Bacall (a bitch — and history has proven Mom right on that one!) and James Caan, who she thought always came across as a strutting, Uber-macho pig.

Another one was Dixie Carter. Mom couldn’t stand her tirades on “Designing Women”, and I remember being home visiting once when “Entertainment Tonight” did an “At Home with Dixie and Hal” segment on Ms. Carter and her husband. They had a HUGE, ostentatious portrait of her on a staircase, and at the end of the segment, as the Holbrooks proudly stood on the staircase in front of the portrait, my mother said, “I think I’m going to throw up!” She apparently felt these things very deeply.

by Anonymousreply 25August 9, 2021 6:59 PM

My father hated Ethel Merman and my mother hated Frank Sinatra.

by Anonymousreply 26August 9, 2021 7:05 PM

My mother never forgave Roald Dahl for “what he did” to Patricia Neal.

by Anonymousreply 27August 9, 2021 7:07 PM

My mother loathed Bob Hoskins. She called him the walking testicle.

by Anonymousreply 28August 9, 2021 7:19 PM

My dad despised Ethel Merman...I can't listen to her either. Shrill has never been a better word for her.

by Anonymousreply 29August 9, 2021 7:21 PM

My Mom hated Lucille Ball too...mostly because of her voice and smoking

by Anonymousreply 30August 9, 2021 7:23 PM

Barbara Streisand. My mother loathed her. "What an egotistical, selfish women!" Loretta Lynn, lol! My mother said LL was too ignorant to speak in public. "She is rich now! How much money would it cost to take education classes?" " Why did she marry that hideously ugly man? Wth is going on in "The Holler" to produce such ugliness?" To this day idk why she hated that women so much, but it brought much much amusement over the years, lolol.

by Anonymousreply 31August 9, 2021 7:31 PM
My best friend's sister absolutely hates Judith Light, but I can't remember why. I knew at one time.

Did your best friend’s sister also grow up where Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are on the ABC affiliate and thus have to be subjected to promos for that lousy sitcom of hers?

by Anonymousreply 32August 9, 2021 7:40 PM

My Nonna hated Jackie Kennedy because she married Onassis and called her a "puttana".

I think my long widowed and from the old country nonna expected every widow to never remarry and wear black for the rest of their life.

by Anonymousreply 33August 9, 2021 7:44 PM

To stay close to the original thread, my mom was not a fan of Bonnie Franklin, Linda Lavin or Patty Duke. She said they were all 'over-actors'. She didn't so much dislike Lucy as not think she was funny. She grew up in the '50s and said she thought ILL was funny when she was a kid, but she thought that part of the reason for Lucy's success was that 'there was nothing else to watch'. She usually saved her real venom for men who cheated/left their wives for another woman: Steven Garvey, Bruce Jenner, Ken Berry...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but there were more.

by Anonymousreply 34August 9, 2021 7:53 PM

My mother called Ann Miller “that black haired bitch” whenever Ann appeared on TV.

by Anonymousreply 35August 9, 2021 7:55 PM

My mom hated the Kennedys deeply.

It'd odd, because my mom was from a Catholic family, and also was a left-winger her entire adult life. But she hated how arrogant the Kennedys were, and hated the idea of an American dynasty (she also hated the Bushes).

by Anonymousreply 36August 9, 2021 8:31 PM
"My father hated Ethel Merman"

I really like her in "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", R26. But beyond that? Spare me.

My parents couldn't stand Garry Shandling. They didn't understand and/or identify with his humor. My mother would always yell at me to change the channel when I would tune in to "The Lawrence Welk Show" on rainy Saturdays or Sundays. It's beyond cheesy as hell, but I still watch old clips, and my mother isn't alive to yell at me.

I have to give my mom credit though. She introduced me to "Dr. WHO", British comedy, and Cher, who is still my all-time number one.

by Anonymousreply 37August 9, 2021 9:04 PM

My father has always hated Bill Cosby and John Travolta.

by Anonymousreply 38August 9, 2021 9:05 PM

My grandmother insisted Ginger Rogers had thick ankles.

by Anonymousreply 39August 9, 2021 9:08 PM

My mom hated Phil Silvers for some reason, and it angered her irrationally that "that no account daughter of his" was Jenny Piccolo on Happy Days. She also hated Laverne & Shirley, and Penny Marshall. "That poor Cindy Williams has to put up with that woman."

She also didn't think Robin Williams was funny and that "Mork was a stupid idea for a show, that man is on drugs."

I don't remember my dad ranting about much except his hated for the Raiders.

by Anonymousreply 40August 9, 2021 9:14 PM

My parents both hated Desi Arnaz and would always grown whenever he started to sing on I Love Lucy. They just didn't get why he was on the show.

by Anonymousreply 41August 9, 2021 9:14 PM

"To stay close to the original thread..."

Well smell you, Miss Hall Monitor.

by Anonymousreply 42August 9, 2021 9:24 PM

Whenever Diahann Carroll would show up on TV in Julia, my mother would say, "she's pretty for a black lady."

by Anonymousreply 43August 9, 2021 9:38 PM

My mom hated Liz Taylor, she used to say in her Irish accent that Liz was “- a dirty bitch who walks with a mattress on her back,” or she’d call her an “old whore.”

by Anonymousreply 44August 9, 2021 9:44 PM

My whole fam hated Dionne Warwick. I tried to watch Solid Gold as a child and my parents would start snorting like pigs and would change the channel.

by Anonymousreply 45August 9, 2021 9:54 PM

My mother LOATHED Linda McCartney (of all people). It was visceral and a little confusing because she generally loved celebrities and was always reading movie star biographies and fan magazines. But you could not mention Linda McCartney. Maybe she had a crush on Paul that she never revealed to us.

by Anonymousreply 46August 9, 2021 9:55 PM

My mom hated "perfect" TV mothers like Florence Henderson and Doris Day (not sure how she felt about Doris' other body of work) For some reason she loved all the spunky single gals of the seventies like MTM and Valerie Harper.

by Anonymousreply 47August 9, 2021 9:55 PM

My mom hated Rosanne and Dan Conners. She said they were nothing but trashy hogs.

by Anonymousreply 48August 9, 2021 9:57 PM
My Nonna hated Jackie Kennedy because she married Onassis and called her a "puttana".

I'd be mad too if Jackie called me a puttana! What gall!

by Anonymousreply 49August 9, 2021 9:59 PM

My mother didn't hate, but the only celebrities she didn't like were Vincent Price and Elvis Presley.

My grandmother (father's mother) hated anyone black. If Puerto Rican's had been big then she would have hated them too.

by Anonymousreply 50August 9, 2021 10:00 PM

A friend of mine in HS had a very straight shooting type of mom. She was nice to me but would tell you how she felt in a second. Anyway, one day she came to see us in the gameroom where we were watching MTV. She saw Madonna on TV and said "I hate her. Hate that hussy!"

She ran around the room, screeching, pulling her shirt up and making noise, and then said, "Okay, where's MY million fucking dollars now? I just did the same thing!" Could not stop laughing. Damn, she was right, too. She said Madonna was too sacred a name and on any future discussions referred to her as "The Hussy."

My father did not like the actors on All In The Family or Maude, but I think Archie either hit too close to home for him or reminded him of his dad or grandfather.

by Anonymousreply 51August 9, 2021 10:02 PM

R51 I would’ve loved to see your friends’ mother’s reaction to madonna’s Sex book!

by Anonymousreply 52August 9, 2021 10:10 PM

My mother didn't like Oprah, Elvis, Rodney Dangerfield, and Steve Urkle (Jaleel White).

She really liked George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley).

by Anonymousreply 53August 9, 2021 10:14 PM

I think my mother hates almost all famous women, except Mother Theresa. I don't have the heart to tell her she was no saint.

She really did not like Princess Diana. She thought she was a fame whore.

I think she has a thing about vanity. Anyone that strikes her as vain gets under her skin. My father, on the other hand, loves everyone except the occasional republican politician. They can go straight to hell as far as he's concerned.

by Anonymousreply 54August 9, 2021 10:14 PM

My mom didn’t like anything that wasn’t on TBN or Daystar.

by Anonymousreply 55August 9, 2021 10:16 PM

R54 My mother didn't like Princess Diana either. However, she adored Queen Elizabeth II.

by Anonymousreply 56August 9, 2021 10:19 PM

My father called Liberace a "fruit."

My father called Tiny Tim a "fruit."

My father called Catinflas a "fruit."

My father called Baryshnikov a "fruit."

But he liked all of them.

Go figure.

by Anonymousreply 57August 9, 2021 10:24 PM

My parents hated Charlton Heston and the way he would "emote."

by Anonymousreply 58August 9, 2021 10:29 PM

I went to Las Vegas with my mom years ago and I insisted on going to the Liberace museum. She wasn't impressed and kept making catty comments about everything. She had no appreciation for camp.

by Anonymousreply 59August 9, 2021 10:36 PM

Anita Bryant...and this was BEFORE she became a known homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 60August 9, 2021 10:44 PM

My mother hated Lucille Ball, or rather, the character she played on I Love Lucy. She said she didn’t understand how people could find a psychopath funny.

by Anonymousreply 61August 9, 2021 10:48 PM
My mom hated Liz Taylor, she used to say in her Irish accent that Liz was “- a dirty bitch who walks with a mattress on her back,” or she’d call her an “old whore.”

My mom told me that when she was pregnant with her first child in1959, she wanted to name her Elizabeth, but my dad said absolutely not, "No daughter of mine will share a name with that slut!"

Well, that’s all true, anyway…

by Anonymousreply 64August 9, 2021 11:17 PM

There was nothing on TV that was off limits with one exception, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Mom said Mary’s voice worked her last nerve and she could not abide by it. I think in particular it was when she did that high squeak of “Ohhhhhhh Misssssssster Graaaaaaaant!”

by Anonymousreply 65August 9, 2021 11:21 PM

The list of celebrities my mother hated was long. I can't begin to remember all of them. But these are some of to top ones she hated:

Barbra Streisand

Judy Garland

Liza Minnelli

Bette Midler

Doris Day

by Anonymousreply 66August 9, 2021 11:38 PM

I forgot my mom hated Brenda Lee and Tammy Wynette. If Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree came on in the store during the Holiday season, she’d snarl and say, “That little bitch”.

When my mom was living in Nashville, sometime in the ‘60s, she was out at a bar with her cousin. She had known Brenda somehow and after a few drinks, Brenda came over and stepped on my mom’s foot while giving her the side eye. My mom, having a few in her already starting walking towards Brenda with a clinched fist and drew back before her cousin grabbed her hand and asked if she knew who that was. My mom said, “Brenda Fucking Lee, now let me at her”. My mom was 5’ 8” and Brenda was around 4’ 10” and my mom said Brenda always wore heels and big wigs to appear taller, but was still a “sawed off piece of shit”.

Now the reason she didn’t like Tammy was because the two of them were at some sort of function and a friend of my mom’s was having some personal issues she was dealing with at the time. My mom said she heard Tammy just within an earshot talking crap about her. My mom was very protective of this friend and said she had a heart of gold and didn’t deserve what Tammy was saying about her. After that, she had nothing nice to say about Tammy Wynette.

by Anonymousreply 67August 9, 2021 11:40 PM

My mother calls Brad Pitt Brad Snit.

by Anonymousreply 68August 9, 2021 11:42 PM

I know it will be hard, but viewers will have to suspend their disbelief that I could play the mother of a teenager.

by Anonymousreply 69August 9, 2021 11:51 PM

^ Oops, wrong thread.

by Anonymousreply 70August 9, 2021 11:54 PM

Unfortunately CZJ is sooo young none of our mothers even know who she is!

by Anonymousreply 71August 9, 2021 11:55 PM

R71: Good one!

by Anonymousreply 72August 9, 2021 11:57 PM

My grandmother hated Nanette Fabray. “With a nose like that you could drown in a rainstorm!”

by Anonymousreply 73August 10, 2021 12:03 AM

My mom hated Ann Ramano!

by Anonymousreply 74August 10, 2021 12:25 AM

I got my grandmother hooked on watching the tv show Peyton Place and every once in a while when Mia Farrow was on the screen she said "there's something wrong with that girl".

by Anonymousreply 75August 10, 2021 12:28 AM

My mother disliked Shari Lewis. However, she never expressed any feelings one way or the other about Lambchop.

by Anonymousreply 76August 10, 2021 12:31 AM

My mother hated Jack Nicholson.

I also had a friend whose mom hated him, and she said he looked like The Devil in human form.

by Anonymousreply 77August 10, 2021 12:37 AM

My mom hated life

by Anonymousreply 78August 10, 2021 12:54 AM

My Dad hated Sonny and Cher.

I had special permission to stay up and watch their show.

Always a walk-through nasty remark. Never understood it.

by Anonymousreply 79August 10, 2021 12:55 AM

The fact that so many of you had parents who hated random celebrities explains a lot about why so many DLers are the way they are.

by Anonymousreply 80August 10, 2021 12:55 AM

Not specific celebrities per se, but my Dad hated [italic]The Brady Bunch[/italic]. He liked [italic]Gilligan's Island[/italic], though.

by Anonymousreply 81August 10, 2021 12:58 AM

My mom said Lou Rouls and Rock Hudson were fruity

by Anonymousreply 82August 10, 2021 12:58 AM

#43, my mom said that, too- but she'd say "colored girl". And it would always be a bi-racial, like Vanessa Williams.

by Anonymousreply 83August 10, 2021 12:58 AM

I don't think my dad hated him, but he always made fun of John Travolta. He would always call him John Revolt-a.

by Anonymousreply 84August 10, 2021 12:58 AM
My mom said Lou Rouls and Rock Hudson were fruity

by Anonymousreply 85August 10, 2021 12:58 AM

My mom and I would laugh our asses off at Jeri Jewel on Facts of Life

by Anonymousreply 86August 10, 2021 12:59 AM

My dad hates (and will still mention how much he hates) Shelley Winters. It’s like he holds a grudge that she was ever part of the world.

by Anonymousreply 87August 10, 2021 1:00 AM
My Dad hated Shelley Winters.

Maybe he got stuck behind her at a buffet once.

by Anonymousreply 88August 10, 2021 1:07 AM

My mother also greatly disliked Jack Nicholson.

I never knew exactly why, but she wouldn't watch any of his movies, no matter how acclaimed he was in the role.

by Anonymousreply 89August 10, 2021 1:08 AM

Jack Nicholson is pretty fucking creepy. If after he died it came out that he was a serial killer, I wouldn't be shocked.

by Anonymousreply 90August 10, 2021 1:11 AM

My step-mom hated Donald Trump. Starting in the 1980’s. She died before he came president, and that’s probably good because she was Democrat through and through. Trump being elected would have killed her if cancer hadn’t gotten to her first.

On the other hand, my grandma had a huge crush on Robert Mitchum.

by Anonymousreply 91August 10, 2021 1:12 AM

Florence Henderson. Dunno exactly why, but my mother never could STAND her, especially when she was on some TV variety show singing. She disliked her acting style. Strangely, though, mm enjoyed Flo's oil (i.e., Wesson--go figure. lol)

by Anonymousreply 96August 10, 2021 1:23 AM

Britney Spears. When that Pepsi commercial from 1999 or 2000 came out, my mom said "she's gonna take her pants off now".

by Anonymousreply 97August 10, 2021 1:27 AM

Your mother has good taste, R97.

by Anonymousreply 98August 10, 2021 1:30 AM

My mother hated Bob Barker. I never really understood why.

Then again, I had extreme hatred for Dick Clark, and I can’t really explain why.

My dad hated Joan Rivers, and he couldn’t believe it when I went to see her in concert in 1984. I was 16 and my mom liked her and bought the ticket for me.

by Anonymousreply 99August 10, 2021 1:32 AM

My mom always disliked Cher ("All she can do is yell!"). And she deliberately calls her "that Chur".

by Anonymousreply 100August 10, 2021 1:33 AM

My dad had a pathological hatred for Italian American celebs, except for Frank Sinatra. He especially hated character actor Don Gordon because he got most of his acting jobs courtesy of his BFF Steve McQueen. He hated Mario Lanza and thought that Connie Francis was ugly.

by Anonymousreply 101August 10, 2021 1:34 AM

R98, agreed. And thank you!

by Anonymousreply 102August 10, 2021 1:34 AM

My mom and I watched Cagney & Lacey every week. I think she must have said “those two are lesbian lovers” 1000 times during our time watching the show.

by Anonymousreply 103August 10, 2021 1:38 AM

She should have seen it when Meg Foster was on it.

by Anonymousreply 104August 10, 2021 1:39 AM

These responses are absolutely hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 105August 10, 2021 1:41 AM

R79 I posted upthread that my father hated them too. He would start cursing and calling them sons of bitches. No one else on TV got him that riled up.

by Anonymousreply 106August 10, 2021 1:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 110August 10, 2021 1:49 AM

My mom disliked Judy Garland. She would say I wouldn’t cross the street to see anyone she didn’t like. I once asked her if she would rather listen to Judy or Diana Ross and she said Diana even though she generally didn’t care for black singers, so I knew how much she disliked Judy. She said Judy might be the better singer, but she didn’t care for her voice at all.

by Anonymousreply 112August 10, 2021 2:15 AM

My mom hates Jennifer Aniston, Rachael Ray, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, The Beatles, Roseanne Barr, Elton John, Dr. Phil

My dad hates Fran Drescher, Cher, Taylor Swift, Axl Rose, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Logan Paul

by Anonymousreply 113August 10, 2021 2:20 AM

My mother was never really a fan of female comedians: Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller, Carol Burnett, and so on. She found them all rather crass.

by Anonymousreply 114August 10, 2021 2:27 AM

My mother referred to Patty Duke as "Patty Puke". She could not stand Naomi Judd and and would comment on how "that woman can't sing but she sure knows how to make an ass out of herself." She met Grace Slick once and commented afterward on what a pig she was. She LOATHED Kathy Lee Gifford and the way she always went on about her fucking kids, yet Mom never missed an episode. She was hate-watching before it was a thing!

by Anonymousreply 115August 10, 2021 2:28 AM

My mom also hated Judy Garland. Something about how Judy's vibrato annoyed her. Her go to phrase was: "If she was singing for shit, she wouldn't get a smell."

by Anonymousreply 116August 10, 2021 2:32 AM

My grandmother once told me that she didn't like "that Burt Reynolds" because he was "shacking up with Loni Anderson". It's weird how attuned the different generations used to be to celebrity culture. Maybe because we all watched the same 3 networks.

I can read a gossip column like "TMZ" today and not recognize a single person mentioned in it.

by Anonymousreply 117August 10, 2021 2:34 AM

R113, your parents are very woke. They hate different celebs of all colors!!!

by Anonymousreply 118August 10, 2021 2:36 AM

My mom hates the Kardashians. She has said 1000 times "why does god give money to people like THIS!". She also finds it obscene that her own mother was providing her guidance on how to pose nude and what poses to make.

by Anonymousreply 119August 10, 2021 2:38 AM

Mick Jagger, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Lee Lewis and Tom Jones are the ones I remember being most disliked.

by Anonymousreply 120August 10, 2021 2:44 AM

My Mom met Terry Bradshaw at a dinner party in the late 70s, and to this DAY... Won't stop talking about what an "Uncouth, dumbass fucking rube" he was.

I also remember my Dad telling me Richard Gere was a "Smarmy, no-talent cocksucker".

by Anonymousreply 121August 10, 2021 2:54 AM

I cannot remember if my folks hated anybody. Y’all got some hateful parents!

by Anonymousreply 122August 10, 2021 3:00 AM

Ok first I'm old - this was the 1960s. I had a small black-and-white tv in my room and was told I could not watch the Sammy Davis Jr. talk show (because he was black and this was Mississippi.) Well, I watched it anyway and my stepfather took my tv away from me. Not that I cared much - I never liked The Brady Bunch kind of shit, even when I was 12.

Maybe it was Sammy in particular because of his white Swedish wife? In any case, same stepfather loved Redd Foxx in Sanford and Son.

by Anonymousreply 123August 10, 2021 3:02 AM

My father hated Martha Raye because she had apparently sexually harassed him when he was in the US Army in the Korean War, and she was on a USO tour.

by Anonymousreply 124August 10, 2021 3:03 AM

My parents both hated Frank SInatra (too mobby, womanizer, etc.). My Dad couldn't stand Victor Manure (that's what he called him), plus most NY actors of that time period (late 40s/early 50s): Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster (he wouldn't watch any westerns or any other movies they were in) as well as Brando.

by Anonymousreply 125August 10, 2021 3:08 AM

My mother hated Robert Goulet because she thought he was too conceited.

by Anonymousreply 126August 10, 2021 3:11 AM

My mother detested slutty Debralee Scott so much, I feel it my duty to put her in this thread, too.

by Anonymousreply 127August 10, 2021 3:12 AM

I can't think of any celebrities my mother hated, which is weird because she hated everyone in real life. My father hated Steve Martin for no particular reason.

by Anonymousreply 128August 10, 2021 3:13 AM

My dad called certain actors by ridiculous names, but he actually liked them: Gary Chickencooper and Burt Lambaster.

by Anonymousreply 129August 10, 2021 3:16 AM

My father, who quite literally lost his mind and many of his friends when he publicly came out in support of Adolf Eichmann, gloated over the deaths of JFK, MLK, RFK and Malcolm X. I was very young and didn't understand any of it, but I certainly understood that he was very sick by the time John Lennon was shot. We were mostly estranged by then.

by Anonymousreply 130August 10, 2021 3:24 AM

This thread is making me laugh like a loon.

by Anonymousreply 131August 10, 2021 3:25 AM

My mother always hated republicans. " Always remember honey, they are EVIL, every last one of them ." I do not think my mother could have handled Trump. She would have had a breakdown.

by Anonymousreply 132August 10, 2021 3:27 AM
My father hated Martha Raye because she had apparently sexually harassed him when he was in the US Army in the Korean War, and she was on a USO tour.

I bet Martha gave a mean blowjob when she took those dentures out. But maybe your father didn't like women without teeth.

My Mom couldn't pronounce "Swoosie Kurtz." She called her "Susie Squirts."

She also thought Camilla Parker-Bowles was "Carmela Bowels."

She would make up variations on a name if she didn't like the celebrity or didn't like their name. Otherwise, she was highly literate.

by Anonymousreply 134August 10, 2021 3:32 AM

My father hated Gil Gerard. Maybe he sensed I had a crush on him but whether that's accurate or not, when "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" would come on my Dad would call it, "Buck Rogers in His Twenty-Five Dollar Giirdle".

by Anonymousreply 135August 10, 2021 3:40 AM

My mom hated Joan Lunden but she liked Charlie Gibson, so we still watched Good Morning America over breakfast. She also thought Laura Dern was only successful because of nepotism.

by Anonymousreply 136August 10, 2021 3:42 AM

My parents hate Courtney Love. They got super upset on Phil Collins’ behalf when Courtney presented him with an award. That just made me want to listen to hole 😉.

by Anonymousreply 137August 10, 2021 3:48 AM

My father lost his temper the first time he heard Beck’s “Loser” - “awful song, awful message, awful singer”

by Anonymousreply 138August 10, 2021 3:49 AM

If we're including politicians and the politically adjacent, my mother had an irrational hate boner for Rosalynn Carter. "That little twit can't wait to get her bony butt into the White House!"

by Anonymousreply 139August 10, 2021 3:51 AM

Almost forgot: I went through a serious Farrah Fawcett diva-worship phase, and my cunty little sister used to troll me by calling her "Square-Headed Fright Face."

by Anonymousreply 140August 10, 2021 4:04 AM

One more thing and I'll stop: My mom inexplicably LOVED Kim Kardashian and watched KUWTC faithfully in her late 70s: "She's as beautiful as Elizabeth Taylor, but she's so humble and sweet!"

by Anonymousreply 141August 10, 2021 4:14 AM

I was thinking my mom didn't dislike anyone but politicians, but then I remember how angry she would get at Peggy Fleming's figure skating commentaries. "She just likes girls who skate like SHE did, who make stupid flowery, flowing, 'graceful' movements," my mom would say, whenever Peggy would diss Elayne Zayek or Surya Bonely, "She HATES girls who are actual athletes, and that's because she's envious!"

My mom was right.

by Anonymousreply 142August 10, 2021 4:43 AM

My mom's disgusted take on Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" when she came in to my room with my laundry when I was 17: "That sounds like child porn!"

by Anonymousreply 143August 10, 2021 4:46 AM

My Mom couldn't stand Frank Sinatra. "He calls women 'broads'"

by Anonymousreply 144August 10, 2021 4:52 AM

My grandfather hated Chuck Connors and called him "tit lip" because of a bump on his lip. My dad howled with laughter when I mentioned it at the dinner table.

by Anonymousreply 145August 10, 2021 4:53 AM

If I played a song by a female singer, my Mom would warn me, "I don't want any sick woman singers!"

by Anonymousreply 146August 10, 2021 4:55 AM

r138 I am with your dad! Loser came out when I was in Highschool. My ex and his then gf looovvved becks, Loser "Just so edgy and true teen angst" Made me want to scream hearing it. Beck has so many better songs later on.

by Anonymousreply 147August 10, 2021 5:38 AM

No one liked that cunt Linda Lavin and her horrid “singing“, right?

by Anonymousreply 148August 10, 2021 5:40 AM

Both my parents, who are polar opposites, hated Florence Henderson. Dad also hated Joan Rivers for her gay friendliness. I pointed out (I was like 10) that she was making gay jokes; he told me, angrily, she’s making jokes because she’s on their side.

by Anonymousreply 149August 10, 2021 6:38 AM

My sister went on a rant about Shirley Temple, saying she was a bitch & she hated her, so our grandma slapped her!

by Anonymousreply 150August 10, 2021 6:55 AM

My father loathed Lucille Ball’s fake cry schtick. It got on his last nerve. And since she did it on every fucking episode of ILL, he went out and drove around when the show was on.

And no one was on the streets. He had them to himself. Because everyone was home watching ILL.

by Anonymousreply 151August 10, 2021 6:59 AM

R153 she looked old in the commercial. What was she buying tampons for? To soak in sherry and stick ip her butthole for a quick buzz?

by Anonymousreply 154August 10, 2021 7:44 AM

Dad hated Rush Limbaugh, oddly enough, even though he has Neanderthal political views himself. Mom disliked anyone with a British accent, and I still don’t know why. I’m an Anglophile myself.

by Anonymousreply 155August 10, 2021 7:49 AM

This thread answers sooooooooo many questions here.

by Anonymousreply 156August 10, 2021 9:17 AM

My mother hated Al Gore. At any mention of his name she would toss her head and dramatically announce “I HATE AL Gore’”

I do the same thing when I hear any mention of Trump, MTG, Greg Abbott etc., so I guess it made an impression.

by Anonymousreply 157August 10, 2021 10:48 AM

Which questions were thoooooooose r156?

by Anonymousreply 159August 10, 2021 11:36 AM

This wasn't hatred exactly, but my mother was unable to conceive that an actor playing gay wasn't necessarily gay in real life. Robert Preston was gay because of his role in Victor/Victoria, despite his long marriage and numerous kids. Billy Crystal was gay because he played Jodie. Any time he was in a movie or TV show after that, she called him "that little fruit." Yes, it was fucked up but sadly common back then.

by Anonymousreply 160August 10, 2021 11:37 AM

My father could not stand Lauren Bacall. For my mother, it was Bette Davis.

Cannot explain it

by Anonymousreply 161August 10, 2021 11:39 AM

My mother always claims her family despised Claude Rains because "he played weak characters."

by Anonymousreply 162August 10, 2021 12:02 PM

There seems to be a lot of hatred of Lucy by mothers. My mother also hated Lucy.

When I was a kid we would watch the old reruns of I Love Lucy, and I would just howl with laughter, and my mother would say, "I don't really find that funny."

by Anonymousreply 163August 10, 2021 12:57 PM

My mom LOATHED the Solid Gold Dancers, especially the star one with the braids who got all the solos - 'she likes the attention a little too much!'

Your mom hated Darcel?

What is she, a godless heathen communist?

by Anonymousreply 165August 10, 2021 1:23 PM

In 1982, I bought a VCR with money from my after school job. The first video-cassette I bought was the video album of PHYSICAL by Olivia Newton-John.

You'd think my parents would be thrilled to see their obviously gay son with a tape of a "hot woman."

But, no, my Dad went on a tirade. "You see her earrings, son? One long and one short! That means she's a dyke! That's their secret symbol!"

So, Olivia was furthering my entry into GayLand with these PHYSICAL videos.

I recorded her Solid Gold performance of "Make A Move On Me," and Dad said her pirate shirt was also a lesbian indicator.

Dad used to drive a truck from Austin to Los Angeles every week, so he knew all of the secret gay symbols, apparently.

Remembered another one of the objects of my mother’s scorn (besides the aforementioned Kathie Lee Gifford, Lauren Bacall, Phyllis Newman, James Caan and Dixie Carter):

One time we were watching “The Mike Douglas Show”, (yes, I’m that old!) and Ms. Lola Falana was introduced. After a sizzling song and dance, she sat down with the host. After commenting on her beauty, Douglas asked about her lineage. “I’m Italian!” she proudly announced.

“What?!” my mother (who was actually Italian herself) screeched. “What part of Italy is SHE from?!”

A few years later, Falana appeared in some PSAs that ended with her batting her doe eyes into the camera and imploring viewers to “do it for Lola!” Mom used to sniff, “There’s that Italian!”

It was common in the 50s to watch What's My Line with family and friends every Sunday night, and every Sunday night Dorothy Kilgallen would always draw the most comments, many of them negative.

Watching reruns now on YouTube I can't fathom the animosity she attracted. She's wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 174August 10, 2021 1:58 PM

Hatred for Dorothy Kilgallen is idiotic. She was well-spoken, well-dressed, and 100% the sharpest panelist: the Nancy Drew of classic TV. I can totally buy that she was killed because she dug up too much dirt re: the Jack Kennedy assassination. She was *very* smart.

by Anonymousreply 175August 10, 2021 2:12 PM

My Aunt Ottilia hated Dorothy Kilgallen, too!

However, she LOVED Arlene Francis in the Early 1970s episodes with her sleeveless tops and skirts. My aunt copied that look.

Was that less terrible?

by Anonymousreply 180August 10, 2021 4:43 PM

The aforementioned Charo (annoying, phony and manic) and Bonnie Franklin (she overacts). And she always hated Jerry Lewis and his shtick, especially the nutty professor. Nowadays she always mentions how much she doesn’t like The Dave Matthews Band (their music is so boring, I wouldn’t cross the street to see them).

("THAT ONE!"). She'd walk In my room and I'd be playing a Miami Sound Machine album and she'd make a face and say, "Is this more of that Gloria Estefan?" (And she'd pronounce "fahn", "fan" and also sometimes add a "d" so it would become "that Gloria Estefand." "That Gloria Estefand...how'd she get a recording contract? My father had a visceral dislike of Julie Andrews, he would never say why nor did he even want to see her.

by Anonymousreply 221August 11, 2021 2:18 AM

I wouldn't say "hate" exactly, but my mom disliked Tom Jones, and swore that he stuffed his underwear to make his bulge look big.

She didn't like Joan Rivers (I'm talking early 70's Joan Rivers). She thought she was vulgar, making jokes about girdles and things like that.

The one she hated the most, though, was Lily Tomlin. She couldn't stand to even be in the room when she was on TV, especially when she did her character "Edith Ann", the little girl in the oversized rocking chair.

One time she got up and walked out pretty upset, and my older sister asked our dad what was up, why the stick up her ass about Lily Tomlin. Dad explained that before we came into the picture, they'd had a baby daughter that was born with birth defects and only lived about a week...and her name was, you guessed it, "Edith Ann".

I remember my sister and I just looked at each other dumbfounded, like, "what...the...fuck???". We were already like 8 and 9 years old, maybe older, and this was the first we'd ever heard of this dead baby thing. It just completely blew both of our minds.

by Anonymousreply 222August 11, 2021 2:24 AM

My parents were more appreciators, than haters, of talented people. I can't think of anybody in show business my dad outright hated. My mom couldn't stand Milton Berle (my dad loved him), wasn't a big fan of Red Skelton, and didn't like Jerry Lewis. Mom also couldn't stand Jayne Meadows (phony). She "never really cared for" Lana Turner.

Very true r117. Back in the day even my grandparents knew who then-current celebrities like Prince, Madonna and Tom Cruise were, even though my grandparents were two generations removed from them.. I'm in my forties now so I'm still relatively young and when I look at the magazine covers at the checkout I have no idea who the fuck half the people are. When I look at the music charts and see the top 10 singles I might recognize one or two singers but have no idea who the others are.

My mother disliked Sinatra and most of the Rat Pack, but children's programming really drew her ire.

She could not abide Soupy Sales.

She hated Jimmy from the Mickey Mouse Club and disliked the show in general.

She had a deep loathing for her memories of the Howdy Doody Show. We never saw it, but she regaled us with memories of watching it as a child and hating it. And taught us the song: "It's Howdy Doody time! The show's not worth a dime. And here is Buffalo Bob...who should have lost his job. And here is Clarabelle...who ought to burn in hell..." etc.

She hated the Electric Company - she thought it was shrill, hateful and violent - but let us watch Sesame Street. Mr. Rogers got on her nerves, although she respected him as a person.

She never minded cartoons, but she preferred we watch the Golden Age classics (Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, etc.) and we never watched Hanna Barbara (except for Scooby-Doo, which was somehow acceptable). There was one exception - Woody Woodpecker. At the sound of his famous laugh, she would scream "turn off that damn pecker!"

It was years before we caught on.

My mother despised Morton Downey, Jr., who had a nationally syndicated talk show that ran 1987-89.

She talked incessantly about how horrible Downey was. Said he was so rude and looked repellent. To her, Morton Downey was the absolute scum of the earth. She worked her hatred of him into many a conversation regardless of what the original topic of the conversation was.

Yet she watched the Morton Downey Show religiously. More than once, I suggested that if the man caused her so much ire that perhaps she shouldn't watch the show. She always looked at me like I had three heads when I said that. She kept watching and kept complaining about him.

I guess she was "hate watching" the show, back before that term had been invented.

When we were teenagers, Brian De Palma's R rated movie Dressed to Kill was on HBO. During a sex scene, my mother came in the room and informed us we had to come in for dinner next commercial. We had to explain that scenes like this were not on regular TV and HBO had no commercials.

On the other hand, she told us we shouldn't watch Divorce Court. This was reruns of the old 1960s version where if the judge didn't think the couple had sufficient grounds for divorce he'd tell them to go home work it out. After that, lots of yelling and screaming. She didn't forbid us to watch it, just told us she thought it was terrible.

Hey, am I in the right thread?

He also hated anyone with jug ears (“Look at them!”, he’d hiss) with the exception of Will Smith, who “has charisma”.

Neither examples are my parents, but whatever.

My aunt (a psychiatrist) detested the character of 'Sophia Petrillo' on THE GOLDEN GIRLS. That is why she couldn't watch it. She said that 'Sophia' exhibited many of the symptoms associated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

My grandfather couldn't stand Barbra Streisand, which was funny because my grandmother adored her. She watched any movie of hers and even owned her music. My grandfather's major beef with Streisand was that she often tried to portray herself as the hot chick. He said that all of her films had similar ugly duckling themes, and it really annoyed him that she couldn't pull off the transformation at the end. He said she was still hideous and he couldn't pretend that she wasn't.

My great-aunt was a teenager throughout the 1920s and recalled her father/brothers hating on Rudolph Valentino. They called him a sissy and said he wore too much makeup. Her father, in particular, hated that he was being promoted as some symbol of masculinity. He preferred Douglas Fairbanks, who he said was a true masculine man.

My mom was Gorgeous, in fact a real genuine beauty queen, but was well umm a bit dodgy shall we say. She led a Very Interesting life. Not sure exactly how intimately she knew Frank, but she sure leaked loads of stuff as she got older & much of it proved to be true. My dad looks wise was a combo of Gable & Flynn. She always said that's why she married him. She totally adored both actors.

She said Streisand was Great ask Fanny B., who she adored as well.

My cousin hated Judy. Then Judy married Deans who my cousin grew up with. Deans just showed up at her house one nite w. Judy. They sat down & had dinner w. the fam. Just the usual Wed. nite meatball & spaghetti. Judy TOTALLY charmed my cousin, loved the dinner & was so gracious that nite & afterwards. My cousin was just heartbroken when Judy died. She said Judy was a real star who finally got to be in heavens where she belonged.

My mother loathed Cloris Leachman for some anti-fat people comments she supposedly made at some point.

My mother also did not like Jane Fonda because of the Vietnam War issue. She'd say "you don't help the other side." I don't know that she would still feel that way, as she was very against the Bush Mideast wars.

The '70s were pretty open about everything after the sexual revolution of the '60s. I remember as a kid in the '80s inheriting a '70s children's book called WHAT IS A BOY? WHAT IS A GIRL? It even included photographs of naked children. My favorite was the end of the book: one page had a fully-naked grown woman; the other page had a naked man. Of course, I paid attention to the latter. I remember repeatedly staring at his handsome face and meaty cock. I even recall some of what was written on the page. The man's name was Gary and it said something like, "When Gary grew up, he grew hair on his body and his penis got bigger." Looking back, I can't believe such a book existed for children. 😂

by Anonymousreply 309August 12, 2021 4:18 AM

R309 why do you suppose?

by Anonymousreply 310August 12, 2021 4:19 AM

They are both women who aren't conventionally beautiful or thin and have loud, opinionated personalities. I still love my dad though, even though I think he's a little less evolved on this front. He's actually a very sweet guy.

Interestingly, I can't recall any opinions my mother has about celebrities. But, I know she has them. She speaks her mind about everything else.

My grandmother disliked soap operas and resented the fact that so many of her female friends were devoted to them. Conversely, she thought Tootsie and Soapdish were hysterically funny, in a very large part because they lampooned the soaps.

One day my sister and I were discussing a role played by Robert Downey Jr. and my grandmother went off on him, calling him every (19th century) name in the book. It took us a while to realize that she had confused him with Morton Downey Jr. We corrected her, saying "Grammy, Robert Downey Jr. is that young man in Soapdish." She corrected herself - and then looked at us very conspiratorially - she must have been close to 90 at this point - and said:

"Mind you, a young man is never that pretty without trouble to deal with at some point or another."

She was pretty sharp.

by Anonymousreply 313August 12, 2021 4:42 AM

No idea, R314. Perhaps. She was a pretty remarkable woman - a doctor during the 1940s, an early proponent of abortion rights, a woman who took air flight lessons in her youth. Yet she was a Republican who hated the Kennedys.

We have pictures of her as a very young woman sunbathing topless with a bunch of medical professors (back when nudity was thought life-affirming healthy activity).

When I knew her as a child, she wore sable, drove a 1951 Mercedes and had a tiny French poodle who lived in a hatbox.

Go figure.

Sad but I think there's a tendency for people to dislike or even hate people because they're ugly, especially on tv or in the movies - because they don't "deserve" to be there.

Maybe the mom upthread who hated Danny Kaye - that could be a factor. He certainly didn't have matinee idol looks.

Back in the 1960's, my late mother hated Donna Reed. I don't think it was as much Donna as it was the always tidy house, perfectly coiffed hair and designer clothes with the inevitable pearls while she played housewife on her show. All this while my mother was now in a very unhappy marriage, with a brat of a step-daughter, a sickly baby (me) and seemingly no way out.
Sad but I think there's a tendency for people to dislike or even hate people because they're ugly, especially on tv or in the movies - because they don't "deserve" to be there.

To be fair, people in general prefer to gaze at beautiful things. Be it people, scenery, landscapes, architecture, etc. Especially if it's projected on a big screen.

by Anonymousreply 320August 12, 2021 5:23 AM

I struggle to not fixate on Amy Schumer's looks - I think it's because she acts like she's beautiful instead of sort of acknowledging her looks, he way Joan Rivers did (though I think Joan was much better looking - attractive, I'd even say).

It's weird. I'm ok with Danny DeVito or Penny Marshall or any of a slew of average to ugly people - depending on how they present themselves. With humor - or with arrogance (see Barbra the Shnozz).

I've read the whole thread but I haven't laughed, guffawed, chortled, or cackled once. I don't know what's wrong with me. But then I think a lot of these parents sound like they hated everyone. They must have been a joy to be around. I hope they got help for their depression.

by Anonymousreply 323August 12, 2021 5:37 AM

R317, it’s “ugly” people who act like they’re hot that annoys people, as r321 identified.

No one minds quirky looking character actors like Steve Buscemi or Danny De Vito. Or even non-pretty people with a potent charisma like Humphrey Bogart. You can understand why Billy Bob Thornton attracted so many beautiful women.

But when Felicity Huffman tries to sell herself as a sexy blonde, or Tori Spelling, eyebrows are raised.

by Anonymousreply 324August 12, 2021 5:39 AM

Not a parent, but my great aunt, who was well into her 80’s at the time, utterly despised Ronald Reagan. Called him “that man” and would change the channel when he appeared on TV. “I can’t stand that man!”

by Anonymousreply 325August 12, 2021 7:05 AM

[quote} My father has always hated Bill Cosby and John Travolta.

Two peas in a pod

by Anonymousreply 326August 12, 2021 8:20 AM

My grandmother hated Brooke Logan from 'The Bold And The Beautiful.'

She never called her "that slut from the Valley," but Granny really hated Brooke.

She loved Stephanie and Sally Spectra. And Dr. Taylor Hayes.

In current times, on DAYS, my mother hates Lani, Allie, Chloe, Nicole, and Kristen, but loves Susan, Ben, Sami, and especially Dr. Marlena Evans.

by Anonymousreply 327August 12, 2021 12:14 PM

My parents hated Madeline Kahn, because she wasn't nice.

by Anonymousreply 328August 12, 2021 12:18 PM

Barbra should have given some of her extra (misplaced) confidence to Madeline, who was convinced she was ugly and hypersensitive about it. They might have balanced each other out.

by Anonymousreply 329August 12, 2021 12:23 PM

My mother hated everyone. But she really hated

Marlo Thomas - would be working in a department store if it weren’t for her no-talent father. Look at that stump of a nose on her face. I’s sue the dr who did that amputation!

Bonnie Franklin - that cross eyed chipmunk. Who’s she related to? She didn5 get that job because of talent or who she slept with because no man would want to have sex with that

Linda Lavin: prizefighter. Hoe else did she get that jaw?

Ali McGraw: That’s a man. A man who can’t act.

MIck Jagger: those liver lips. Ugh, (visibly shuddered)

James Brown: that’s not even human

Dionne Warwick: Doesnt she make enough money to get those buck teeth fixed?

Peggy Lee: Thar woman is dead. She’s been dead & embalmed for 10 years and her agents hires someone to out the body onstage and play a recording.

by Anonymousreply 330August 12, 2021 12:49 PM

Sorry for typos. Mom’s a little rusty from the grave

Oh yeah…Charlie Watts: I think that’s the ugliest creature I’ve ever seen. (That was before she saw James Bown)

by Anonymousreply 331August 12, 2021 12:52 PM

R321 Barbra has always been beautiful by sheer force of will. I don’t see anything unappealing about her! And what a dish in the 70s!

by Anonymousreply 332August 12, 2021 1:10 PM

Also from mom

Marianne Faithfull: She looks mentally retarded. Actually, fully, 100% mentally retarded. They ought to be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of that girl.

Patti Boyd: What’s wrong with her? Why can’t she brush those bangs out of her eyes? She can’t see. Nobody can see with their hair in their eyes like that

Yoko Ono: Where did he get a dog like that? At the pound?

John Lennon in his long haired, granny glasses, naked album cover days: That man is a mental case.

Judy Carne: How do people like this get on television?

Her biggest hate of all, Jackie Onassis: Ooh, my name is Zhock-LEEN. I wear a big wig & big sunglasses on 5th Avenue. I can be spotted a mile away. Then I pretend I hate it when they take my picture. I have no breasts. I’m shaped like a boy, that’s why my husband screwed around. I lived on an island in Greece to get away from publicity, but I missed getting photographed. So I holed up in the middle of remote New York City next to Central Park where no one would think to look for me.

(Mom was a John Birch Republican. A bitter, bitter woman)

by Anonymousreply 333August 12, 2021 1:35 PM

R312, the culture trained men to think that women were there for their approval and satisfaction. If she didn't measure up to his liking in appearance, it was expected that he disapprove. If a female didn't agree with him, she was a bitch for having a different opinion. Females at work were subordinates and it was expected that a male boss be demanding and belittling. Even a "nice guy" acted like that, and it spilled over to how they evaluated female celebrities.

Things have changed drastically since that time, and I'm glad ;)

by Anonymousreply 334August 12, 2021 2:00 PM

My mom's comments on various celebrities that I can remember.

Anna Nicole Smith: "a gold digging whore"

Marilyn Monroe: "She's a whore. She slept with a married man, didn't she?"

Michael Jackson ("Miss Michael"): "a freak who molested little boys."

Vincent Price: "I can't stand him."

Dr. Phil: "He's always so high up on his pedestal. He acts like he knows everything and has never made a mistake in his life."

Wendy Williams: "Big mouth," "I can't stand to watch her," "She looks so much like a man. Are you sure she's not transgender?"

Roseanne: (When she was running for president and my brother jokingly said he was going to vote for her) "Women had to fight for the right to vote. I'll feel like you'll be spitting in my face if you waste your vote on a big-mouthed moron like her."

by Anonymousreply 335August 12, 2021 2:16 PM

R335 And "Miss Michael" was her nickname for him due to his feminine appearance and behaviors.

by Anonymousreply 336August 12, 2021 2:21 PM

R321, a lot of the evaluations of women as being ugly is also about them being Jewish. If they "look Jewish," they must be ugly. I'm no Streisand worshipper, but she was the first Jewish star who didn't apologize for it. Being a woman, this crime was far more offensive than if a man acted the same way. And of Streisand only played silly side-kick roles, her schnoz wouldn't be as off-putting to some.

R322, I saw that Tonight Show with Joan Rivers doing Brenda Vaccaro in 1980 or so, I still laugh at the memory of it.

by Anonymousreply 337August 12, 2021 2:25 PM
I'm no Streisand worshipper, but she was the first Jewish star who didn't apologize for it.

Just curious, when did stars like John Garfield, Sylvia Sidney, Gertrude Berg, Fanny Brice, and so forth apologize for being Jewish?

by Anonymousreply 338August 12, 2021 2:35 PM

My mother disliked Virginia Graham. Especially her hatlike coiffure. But mainly her raspy voice and her brusque manners. She felt that way about Totie Fields as well.

by Anonymousreply 339August 12, 2021 2:41 PM

I watched Dark Shadows with my dad and every time they showed Grayson Hall, he said "Goddamn. That has got to be the ugliest bitch I've ever seen. Who let her on TV?" He didn't like her voice or screams either. And about David Henesy, he called him "an annoying little fucker" and said "When is Barnabas going to kill him?"

by Anonymousreply 340August 12, 2021 2:47 PM

R338, none of those other actors used their real name, and Garfield and Sidney are not easily identified as Jewish by looks. Fanny Brice was a comedian, being Jewish was more acceptable. Gertrude Berg was a rotund character radio actress, and on TV for a short series.

by Anonymousreply 341August 12, 2021 2:54 PM

Mom didn't like Giselle McKenzie. She also could not STAND the comedian, Sam Levenson. I don't remember him so I don't even know why. She also didn't like the old, dowdy way the Queen of England dressed. She would just shake her head and "tsk." She didn't like Monte Rock III and really disliked Professor Irwin Corey.

by Anonymousreply 342August 12, 2021 2:57 PM

Around the time Love Story came out, my father just COULD NOT get over her crooked front tooth.

by Anonymousreply 343August 12, 2021 2:59 PM

R341 Gertrude Berg's married name was Berg. It's a Jewish name. Ther radio series ran for years and the TV show ran for 7 years and there was a movie. In 1959, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress for her performance in the play, A Majority of One. There were other people I could have named -- Rod Steiger, Claire Bloom, Eli Wallach, George Segal.

Streisand also started out as a supporting comedienne. I also think she'd have changed her last name if it had been longer or something like Fishbein or Garfinkle. But I don't know.

by Anonymousreply 344August 12, 2021 3:06 PM

I once read that Sylvia Sidney wore her Jewishness like a cross, Streisand work her Jewishness like a badge.

by Anonymousreply 345August 12, 2021 3:15 PM

How did Lauren Bacall wear her Jewishness? How about Shelley Winters?

by Anonymousreply 346August 12, 2021 3:20 PM

Who wore like a star, a six pointed star?

by Anonymousreply 347August 12, 2021 3:25 PM

No one knew Lauren Bacall was Jewish until she told them. You're missing the point of my post, R346.

by Anonymousreply 348August 12, 2021 3:27 PM

R324, SJP wins that contest.

by Anonymousreply 349August 12, 2021 3:37 PM

Reading this thread has helped me understand why I don't jump on the usual DL hatewagons. My parents didn't react negatively to celebrities the way most people in this thread's parents did. My mother in particular only watched or listened to what she knew she liked, so there wasn't any ragging on celebrities in our house.

by Anonymousreply 350August 12, 2021 3:37 PM

R342, I haven't thought of those entertainers in decades!

Those were the days!

by Anonymousreply 351August 12, 2021 3:38 PM

R351 I know, right?

by Anonymousreply 352August 12, 2021 3:45 PM

My late mother didn't like Oprah. "All they do on that show is talk about how unhappy they are," she would say.

by Anonymousreply 353August 12, 2021 4:14 PM

Your Mom was very wise, R353. I fully agree.

by Anonymousreply 354August 12, 2021 4:20 PM

R351 Sam Levenson!

by Anonymousreply 355August 12, 2021 4:22 PM

My mom didn't hate Janis Joplin so much as she couldn't understand the hype: "I mean, she wasn't pretty and she couldn't sing!"

She really did dislike Bruce Springsteen, though. She felt his mid-80s success was a vast white-wing conspiracy (see what I did there?) to topple the two biggest music stars, Prince and Michael Jackson, from the top of the pop/rock mountain. She called Springsteen "the great white hope."

Mom was a trip.

by Anonymousreply 356August 12, 2021 4:55 PM
[R324], SJP wins that contest.

She might now, r349, but in her peak from her mid-20s to mid-30s, Sarah Jessica Parker was a good comedienne with a spark and sense of silliness on screen. She had that dancer body, a riot of hair, twinkling eyes and a great smile. She was cute, wart and all.

None of which she takes advantage of now.

by Anonymousreply 357August 12, 2021 5:30 PM

ANY Jackson

by Anonymousreply 360August 12, 2021 9:40 PM

Even me, R360?

by Anonymousreply 361August 12, 2021 11:25 PM

R290 and R291 My Dad felt the same way about Barbra. My husband feels the same bewilderment at Hilary Swank, most recently in the crap movie Fatale. No matter how much she grows out her hair or tries to be sexy, she is hideous and has zero sex appeal. Same with the atrocious looking Elizabeth Moss. We're supposed to believe some hot, rich guy was totally obsessed with her in Invisible Man? Sorry, no.

by Anonymousreply 362August 13, 2021 2:40 PM

R286, She never said why she hated Danny Kaye. Maybe she figured out he was "light in his loafers"?

by Anonymousreply 363August 13, 2021 4:11 PM

R363 Maybe it was that whole “poison in the potion” routine, that could drive anyone to hate.

by Anonymousreply 364August 13, 2021 4:15 PM
I even saw a post by somebody whose grandmother also hated Danny Kaye like mine did. If you’re reading this, do you know why?

Loud mouth Jew?

Seriously, Danny Kaye was one of those celebrities you couldn't get away from in the 1960s. He had a weekly variety show and introduced The Wizard of Oz when it was on CBS annually. Lengthy "comedy" before, during commercials. He was all over magazines, even commercials If I remember correctly. And the locals channels ran Hans Christian Anderson, Walter Mitty and a hoard of other movies he acted in. I specifically remember him in The Man from the Diners Club, when one of his feet was two inches longer than the other. ENOUGH!

by Anonymousreply 365August 13, 2021 6:18 PM

R365 Wasn’t he stop animated in one of the holiday TV shows as well?

by Anonymousreply 366August 13, 2021 6:28 PM

I loved and still love Danny Kaye. His comedy varied, sophisticated wit to slapstick, he sang well, he danced, he was a good actor. You either get it or you don't, I guess. Also if you're anti-Semitic like R365 I guess that wouldn't help (and also would severely limit your enjoyment of comedy in the 20th/21st centuries in general).
Maybe it was that whole “poison in the potion” routine, that could drive anyone to hate.

I don't think the word "potion" is ever used in the routine.

by Anonymousreply 367August 13, 2021 6:42 PM

R120 and R305, what were your parents' objections to Jackie Gleason?

by Anonymousreply 368August 13, 2021 8:54 PM

R368, He was ‘coarse’.

by Anonymousreply 369August 13, 2021 9:12 PM

R367, fool, I'm not anti-semitic. I'm Jewish. If several people's grandmothers disliked Danny Kaye his being Jewish could be a major reason. I'm happy you like Danny Kaye. I understand why, but you must understand liking his routine is a matter of taste.

by Anonymousreply 370August 13, 2021 9:48 PM

R368, many people know Gleason from his 50s-60s variety show, not necessarily The Honeymooners. And they remember his record albums of "mood music," famous song instrumentals where he allegedly conducted the orchestra.

It's an Easter special. Call it for what it is.

by Anonymousreply 375August 13, 2021 11:17 PM

Nope R375, it’s a holiday special, it’s based on one of my favorite childhood books, “The Easter Bunny That Overslept.” He misses delivering eggs on Easter, so he, to no avail, tries giving them away during all the other holidays. The special does all the holidays!

by Anonymousreply 377August 13, 2021 11:57 PM

My mother hated Danny Kaye ever since she saw him on some talk show in either the '70s or early '80s. I'm thinking it was Phil Donahue or something like that.. Anyway, they let the audience ask him questions and apparently he put down one of these fawning audience members pretty viciously, calling her fat. This is what my mother said; I have no idea whether this actually happened..

If it did, I think that's proof that Danny was not only gay but would have been a true DLer!

by Anonymousreply 378August 14, 2021 12:09 AM

Maybe if your mother hadn't been such a whore, she might have been able to learn to enjoy Danny Kaye.

by Anonymousreply 379August 14, 2021 1:11 AM

Last year, a DLer called Danny Kaye IRISH. You know, the red hair and "Irish" name.

by Anonymousreply 380August 14, 2021 1:15 AM

Danny Kaye bore Olivier's bastard son, I hope you know.

by Anonymousreply 381August 14, 2021 1:22 AM

I think we may need a Danny Kaye deappreciation thread on DL. I surmise that part of the problem was he had an unchecked ADHD problem and one can only take those people in small doses. A little goes a long way.

by Anonymousreply 382August 14, 2021 1:46 AM

r382. plus he was a total queer married to a woman.

by Anonymousreply 383August 14, 2021 1:47 AM

My mother hated Jerry Lewis. Said he was mean and was mean to Dean Martin. Felt he was jealous of Martin’s looks and talent. I think she was right.

You are free to carry on with the Danny Kaye rants, didn’t mean to pull the column away from that. I rather agree wholeheartedly btw.

by Anonymousreply 384August 14, 2021 9:47 AM

R384 Like the aforesaid Dannys Kaye and Thomas, Lewis's charitable efforts boomeranged and made it look like he was using MDA for self-promotion.

by Anonymousreply 385August 14, 2021 11:04 AM

Why don't people like Danny Kaye? For the same reason many couldn't stomach Robin Williams, they both had a severe manic thing going in their performances.

My grandmother was appalled when she saw Kaye, who had a good head of bleached hair, had grown it out "like a hippie" in the 1970s. An old man trying to be young:

R386 Except there were a lot of manic comics -- Jonathan Winters, Phyliss Diller, Joan Rivers et al. -- who didn't strike the same nerve as Kaye.

by Anonymousreply 387August 14, 2021 2:00 PM

R387, Phyllis Diller, manic? Jonathan Winters, manic? Don't think so. Joan Rivers wasn't close to Kaye in that way.

by Anonymousreply 388August 14, 2021 2:05 PM

Frank Sinata -- "That overrated wop" as my rather racist father called him.

by Anonymousreply 389August 14, 2021 2:09 PM

R387 I’m pretty sure Jonathan Winters was Bipolar 2, the very definition of manic.

by Anonymousreply 390August 14, 2021 2:10 PM

R386 You've clearly forgotten Phyliss and her style. If this isn't manic . . .

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 391August 14, 2021 2:17 PM

My father had a pathological hatred of Joan Rivers. When she'd appear on Ed Sullivan she'd always come out walking very strangely and bobbing her head up and down. That would insight my father practically to violence. "Just look at that crazy idiot bob that head" he would say before changing the channel while she was on. If he changed back to Sullivan and she was still on he'd get even madder. "DAMN, that fool is still on!". Then he'd switch channels again. When he'd finally go back and she'd be gone it was like all the pressure of the world had been lifted from him.

Yes, my father was an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 392August 14, 2021 2:19 PM

R390, acting manic as described here has nothing to do with being bi-polar.

by Anonymousreply 393August 14, 2021 2:19 PM

My mother despised Marlene Dietrich, thought she was a terrible actress and an even worse singer.

by Anonymousreply 394August 14, 2021 2:22 PM

R393 I think you are confused who Jonathan Winters is, this obit literally calls him manic.

Darling, R395, HIS ACT was not manic like Robin Williams or Danny Kaye.

by Anonymousreply 397August 14, 2021 2:25 PM

It's strange to read about anti-semitism here. I grew up in a midwestern town where there were hardly any Jews and I can't remember any entertainer being identified as Jewish by my parents. The word "Jew" was never used outside of church when talking about the bible.

The only entertainer we ever heard about as being Jewish was Sammy Davis Jr.

by Anonymousreply 398August 14, 2021 2:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 404August 14, 2021 7:35 PM

I can't remember Danny Kaye being manic, maybe he was. But I don't think Joan or Phyllis were manic. I don't even think Richard Pryor was "manic" .

Just Robin Williams, really. Or maybe that watermelon guy? If not manic, then weird as hell.

by Anonymousreply 405August 14, 2021 8:38 PM

Both of my parents had a visceral loathing of the Osmond Brothers, with Mother especially hating little Jimmy. You'd think that people born in the 1920's would have loved those wholesome Mormons, but no. They had a lot of harsh words for Andy Williams who gave them their start on the Andy Williams Show. Even in the 2000's they'd rant about how THEY ruined Andy Williams. To this day, I still don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 406August 14, 2021 9:37 PM

My mother always hated Helen Hunt. She keeps showing off her boobies and nips in every film she makes.

by Anonymousreply 407August 14, 2021 9:44 PM

My mom had a number of somewhat obscure1960s/70s celebrities she disliked (often from seeing them on talk/variety/game shows). In retrospect, she was mostly right on.

Comedienne Totie Fields: "Loudmouth jewess. Not funny." (I disagree with this one.)

French singer Mireille Matthieu: "Oh, ick. She sings through her nose and spits."

Dr. Joyce Brothers: "Phony baloney Miss Priss."

Elizabeth Ashley: "Manic." (I don't think mom knew about cokeheads at the time,)

Wally George (abrasive right-wing TV/radio commentator and father of Rebecca DeMornay): Mom HATED him, as well she should have.

George Putnam (arch conservative LA newscaster): See above.

Nanette Fabray: "No-nose Nanette. Goody two shoes."

Astrologer to the Stars, Joyce Jillson: "Miss Balloony Tits. Airhead crackpot. Astrology is a load of crap."

Kim Darby: "Sullen and can't act."

Some celebrities she particularly liked: Jane Fonda, Hope Lange, Dinah Shore, Burt Bacharach, James Garner, Sidney Poitier.

by Anonymousreply 429August 15, 2021 6:39 AM

My grandmother (born 1905) hated Louis Armstrong of all people. And she thought Richard Chamberlain was funny looking.

by Anonymousreply 430August 15, 2021 2:08 PM

Did any of your folks ever hate Katharine Hepburn? For some reason I thought she'd be one of the go-to most hated. I'm kind of surprised she isn't mentioned here.

by Anonymousreply 431August 15, 2021 7:17 PM

(R431) My mother didn't like her but never made any remarks about hating her either. I can never make up my mind about Katharine Hepburn, myself. She somehow creeps me out when I see her. Somethings off with her yet I liked Spencer Tracy and really he had more to dislike about him than her. Big drinker but somehow that didn't matter to me, seemed kind of a nice guy.
Andy Williams Show. Even in the 2000's they'd rant about how THEY ruined Andy Williams. To this day, I still don't get it.

Speaking of Andy, my parents despised Claudine Longet, his untalented trigger happy wife. She sang a song on one of Williams’ family holiday specials and for the life of me, my brother and I couldn’t hear a word of what she sang because of my parents snarking. Oh, and when she shot Spider Sabich, they wouldn’t shut up. We joked about that for years.

by Anonymousreply 433August 16, 2021 7:06 PM

My mother thought Cher was meh. My father liked her and said she reminded him of Streisand. The nose, not the voice, I'll guess.

My mother never used the word 'hate,' but she would speak with disdain about Frank Sinatra. She loved John Forsyte and Linda Evans. If I called during Dynasty she'd hustle me off the phone so she could go watch.

My mother was very vociferous about actresses she liked and hated.

We're talking 60s/70s

Biggest hates Mia Farrow, Liza Minelli, Twiggy! (I like all three very much - Twiggy I think is a lucky bitch, not a bitch but a lucky bitch. i'm amazed how long she's ridden on the coat tails of her original fame).

But she likes Julia Roberts (which shows what bad taste she has - but my father could see right through her as could I). He hated Hugh Grant and Whoopie Goldberg.

She also hated Kathleen Turner for some reason - I like her a lot as well.

by Anonymousreply 447August 17, 2021 1:55 AM

Marilyn Manson

by Anonymousreply 448August 17, 2021 1:57 AM

My grandmother always said Connie Francis was a cheap whore. And that Frank Sinatra was an illiterate, woman-beating gangster who wouldn't be fit to be a garbageman if not for his voice.

And those Kennedys were all a bunch of bootlegging garbage-dicks who got a few whores killed before they themselves were brought down by a Vengeful Protestant God (or "VPG").

by Anonymousreply 449August 17, 2021 1:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 476August 20, 2021 5:30 AM

I always enjoyed Danny Kaye. Since most people did, this wasn't a minority opinion. And not only was he not "always manic" like Robin Williams, he was never actually manic. And he tended to be in good taste, and witty, unlike Jerry Lewis. I can't say my parents hated him because they did not. They actually once skipped school to see him when movies had stage shows and he was the stage performer. And they liked his TV show. My dad also loved Gleason. Neither of my parents cared for Jerry Lewis.

by Anonymousreply 493August 21, 2021 10:39 PM

My mom HATED Betty White for years. I forget why, but I think it went back to watching her on Password (she was the wife of Alan Ludden) and stuff like that. I think she had a sitcom in the 50s as well. But my mom ended up loving her in The Golden Girls and became a big fan.

Meanwhile, I was masturbatung furiously to one of those Jim Palmer Jockey ads from a really old copy of People magazine.

by Anonymousreply 495August 23, 2021 1:26 AM

For some reason my dad hated the actor who played Marlo Thomas’ dad in her sitcom. He’d always rag on him every time he was on television.

He also disliked Esther Rolls (yes, that’s what he called her). Mainly because he thought she was ugly and her Florida Evans character was such a wet blanket.

Plus, she had no neck.

by Anonymousreply 496August 23, 2021 3:59 PM

I read a post on the old AOL Black Voices entertainment forums that Esther’s neck was the black version of Where’s Waldo.

by Anonymousreply 497August 23, 2021 4:44 PM

Dinah could not sing. I don’t know how she made it as a chanteuse. She did have a lovely personality but her voice was like a bagpipe getting run over by a steamroller.

My dad didn’t like her either. Mom did, but couldn’t stand her voice.

Well…he was there with his orchestra and Dinah SANG! It’s an instrumental piece but she was singing it! Someone must’ve come up with lyrics. Regardless, she totally ruined it for us all. Especially my dad. Mercifully she was drowned out by the musicians near the end. What she did to that gorgeous music could have been an episode of LAW AND ORDER: SVU.

My father, who was a WWII vet only about a decade younger than Katharine Hepburn, could not STAND her and would snap off the TV angrily if she ever came on. I think he found her "mannish" and too aggressive for a woman, but he would never say exactly what the problem was.

by Anonymousreply 510August 25, 2021 9:57 PM

My dad hated Richard Dreyfus and would scrunch his face up in disgust and pain whenever he was on tv or his name was mentioned.

[R9] "One person who pops into my mind who she couldn’t stand was Jaclyn Smith. She always said she, “Had no face”. I still have no idea what that means."

I think I know what your mother meant to say: Jaclyn Smith had that kind of doll-like, flawless but bland beauty that appeals to the mainstream audience. Her facial expression varied only slightly if at all. Hence "Had no face".

by Anonymousreply 512September 5, 2021 6:26 AM

My parents didn't care for any of the actresses in CHARLIE'S ANGELS. They thought that their acting was terrible and one night, we watch an episode of CA where Kelly Garrett (Smith) was slammed into a wall by a criminal after telling him, "Hey! I'm a detective". My dad derided her for that. My mother thought that Jaclyn, while pretty, was no actress. Can't disagree with her about that. Kate was on THE ROOKIES, so they liked her in that, but not CA. And don't get me started on Farrah; they simply despised her. "Just a white girl with a lot of hair", my mom would say.

by Anonymousreply 513September 5, 2021 11:31 PM

My mom hated Isabella Rossellini and my dad hated Kyle MacLachlan. So they had a DVD of "Bltue Velvet" which they would watch every night and get pissed off about until Mom's death. Ever since, Dad watches that every night and gets pissed off that Kyle M. doesn't die before the end.

by Anonymousreply 514September 6, 2021 1:16 AM

My father HATED Gale Gordon. He loved I Love Lucy and Lucille Ball but couldn't stand The Lucy Show or Heres Lucy because of his Gale Gordon hatred. ("He just yells. Like a pain in the ass!") I think he also confused Gale Gordon with Mister Whipple of the Dont Squeeze the Charmin commercials, because he'd always give the TV the finger when one of those commercials came on.

by Anonymousreply 518September 11, 2021 9:47 AM

He was first choice to play Fred Mertz, but he was involved with "Our Miss Brooks".

by Anonymousreply 519September 11, 2021 9:53 AM

My dad hated Vince Edwards from BEN CASEY. He saw him singing on Bobby Vinton’s show (another one he disliked) and practically spit on the television screen.

by Anonymousreply 520September 12, 2021 1:22 AM

My parents didn't really hate any celebrity. My dad once said he didn't care for Tyne Daly because she always had a scowl on her face and he didn't particularly like Helen Reddy because he thought she should fix her teeth since she had money enough to do it. Their hatred was reserved for politicians. My mother hated Johnson because she swore up and down that Johnson had something to do with Kennedy's death and my dad had a serious hatred for Nixon. He hated Nixon since Nixon headed the house un-American activities committee and ruined some of the best writers in Hollywood as far as my father was concerned. When he ran for president and won My dad almost had a nervous breakdown. He also hated Reagon.

by Anonymousreply 521September 12, 2021 3:25 AM
