I remember watching a documentary about her a couple of years ago.
What really stuck with me, was one of the actual survivors commenting on the celebrity surrounding Head within survivor circles and her disdain for it. Head being a complete fraud was almost beside the point; others not only looked up to her but put her on some sort of pedestal, even though all she was doing was claiming to have gone through the same horrific experience as everyone else.

[R1] I agree with your larger point about Tania Head's strange celebrity before she was exposed. However, the reason Head's profile grew beyond those of other survivors is because she spun a (fraudulent) tale so horrific and tragic that it diminished many of the actual survivors' experiences, honest and terrible as those were/are.
Head claimed to be in one of the towers' sky lobbies during impact, that aircraft debris injured her arm so badly it was nearly severed -- she does have a terrible scar on one of her arms, though it was really from a childhood car accident. She also claimed to see dozens of decapitated, disfigured corpses of WTC workers in that sky lobby before being rescued by FDNY -- a lie, she was later proven to be in Barcelona on 9/11, in MBA classes at ESADE. Further, she claimed to have a fiancée working in the other tower, who was killed just weeks after a surprise Maui engagement trip -- another fabulist lie, the man existed but they never knew each other, and the common belief is she plucked his casualty story out of the news coverage and attached him to her tale because he was unmarried.
Head's story was such a gigantic bag of bullshit, packaged up in a neatly tragic narrative. This is why she became a 9/11 "celebrity" of sorts. Thank goodness for enterprising journalists, for inadvertently exposing her when all they'd set out to do was interview her ahead of I think the 5th/6th anniversary. Her pride cometh before her 110-story metaphorical fall.

She would have been more believable if she had fianceed herself on one of the immigrant workers of the Windows restaurant.
