One thing I have always admired of her was her insane ambition in her early years (most of which was eventually realized), and there just wasn't room for a stable relationship while she was pursuing that, as both Gould and Streisand admit.

Barbra had such promise coming out of the ‘60s and then she got boring. The last good film she made was the unwieldy melodrama, The Way We Were, and her last great record was The Broadway Album. Both of those were a long time ago. Such a shame.

I always liked the story Brolin told of being somewhat down on his luck and driving past a huge party at Barbra’s mansion, feeling like a loser. He must delight in the fact he’s now married to the legend and has permanent A list status for it. She seems like a comfortable old gal at this point.

I really think it is a love match for Babs and Jim, mostly because they met in late middle age and they both had been through the shit and had the career bs in the back mirror. I cling to the hope that there can be true companionship if there is respect and compassion. But it is hard to have that if there are a ton of competing interests (ego, aka career).
