South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone ink $900 MILLION deal to extend contract, one of largest in TV history

And they get this for having sporadic new episodes, not sticking to any season, and never promoting when or if there will be new South Park episodes. The fucking rich have TOO much money and maybe it really is time to put a stop to it. $900 million... to draw a silly cartoon show every few months. There's something diabolical about that.

by Anonymousreply 8August 5, 2021 5:48 PM

R7 They don't push a right wing agenda. If you actually watched the show, you would know that. To me it's clear that they're disinterested in politics.

by Anonymousreply 9August 5, 2021 5:52 PM

Rich people all need to DIE.

by Anonymousreply 10August 5, 2021 5:53 PM

I hope they make an episode where two talentless, racist, bigoted hacks make a lame cartoon tv show, and become billionaires from it.

But they wouldn't dare make fun of themselves.

They're much too sensitive.

by Anonymousreply 11August 5, 2021 5:54 PM

R11 they do make fun of themselves. When they made fun of family guy, they had a character say, “at least it’s not all up its own ass and preachy”, shading themselves.

by Anonymousreply 12August 5, 2021 5:57 PM

When was the last time anyone watched South Park?

R13, its rabid fanboys are aging [terribly] along with it.

by Anonymousreply 14August 5, 2021 6:00 PM

I only watch re-runs of about four or five of my favorite episodes.

The rain forest episode, chicken fucker, brown noise, trapper keeper, and Cartman joins NAMBLA.

Besides those, I migiht occasionally watch PC Principal.

The rest all sucks.

by Anonymousreply 15August 5, 2021 6:02 PM

To be people like R7, that's considered "right wing agenda". You have to burn down buildings.

by Anonymousreply 16August 5, 2021 6:03 PM

I watched their pandemic special yesterday expecting to hate it. It was funny. The pot thing is not funny to me, but I did chuckle when they hired cops to replace teachers in the school, and then when the cops killed Token and called his death "covid-related."

by Anonymousreply 17August 5, 2021 6:03 PM

[quote] To me it's clear that they're disinterested in politics.

I agree. It means sometimes their take on things is lame and wrong, but at other times it's funny. I was surprised that the show could still make me laugh. It hasn't been consistently funny since season 8. And now they are on 24.

by Anonymousreply 18August 5, 2021 6:04 PM

When are they going to build their rocket to space?

Isn't it obligatory for billionaire douche cunts?

by Anonymousreply 19August 5, 2021 6:05 PM

I don't get how it could be successful in syndication. I guess it's a good time capsule for x-ers but damn, those jokes were dated a month after the episode appeared.

by Anonymousreply 20August 5, 2021 6:07 PM

R18 see, I thought season 19 (2015) was their most consistently funny season ever.

by Anonymousreply 21August 5, 2021 6:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 23August 5, 2021 6:09 PM

Disney, Viacom, NBCUniversal, WB etc are hoovering up old, established ips because they are too fucking lazy and conservative to invest in anything new and consumers are stoopider than ever. Who the fuck want to see a new Star Wars movie every 2 years? A lot of people apparently.

by Anonymousreply 24August 5, 2021 6:10 PM

They are self proclaimed Libertarians.

by Anonymousreply 25August 5, 2021 6:10 PM

Who cares what they "self-proclaim."

They're conservatard douchebros who trash everything liberal/progressive, but are completely SILENT on all the shit the GOP has done for the past 20 years.

From Bush, to Boehner, to McConnell, to Miss Lindsey, to Paul Ryan, to Matt Gaetz, to Marjorie CuntFace, to Trump.

COMPLETELY. FUCKING. SILENT.

They only make fun of liberals and progressives. But NEVER conservatives.

I cancelled these two losers a very long time ago. They can go fuck themselves.

What else are they gonna do? Make serious movies about about causes and stuff?

I'm glad for Try and Matt!

by Anonymousreply 28August 5, 2021 6:24 PM

Mostly I abhor this, and don’t support it. The pay scale is tone-deaf in context, and even outside of global crises mode does not fairly reflect the cultural heft and value of the work they’re doing now.

However, if there is a Butters-centric movie to come (one of the 14 in the pipeline), then I apologise in advance for the woman I will become. That sweet little cutie-pie deserves everything.

by Anonymousreply 33August 5, 2021 7:11 PM

They always do that.

The "Museum of Tolerance" was just a way for them to get away with using every disgusting and hateful slur that they could get away with on television, and disguising it as "humor."

I remember being disappointed when I found out why they did that whole parody of Barbra Streisand, the mecha-Streisand thing. I thought they were just making fun of her being a diva, and I found that episode really funny. Turns out they were really angry with her because she stood up against an anti-gay law that was being proposed in Colorado. Her statement on it was basically just that she wanted to point out this proposed law as many celebrities had winter homes in Colorado, and she suggested maybe a boycott or something. She was respectful in what she said.

They claimed she "called us all ignorant hicks!" (she didn't), and I'll never forget one of them saying: "The law wasn't even that anti-gay, anyway". I went off them after that, though I do have some fun memories of the show back in the day. I kinda thought it ended in the 00s though, really surprised it's still going.

[quote] But they didn't actually make fun of Trump like they have with Democratic politicians. Republicans are always off limits with these two assholes.

I saw or read an interview with them a few years ago, and they said that they agonized over this. Trump is so awful there was no easy way to lampoon him. They were right. The truth of the Trump administration was stranger and more absurd than anything they could come up with.

I assumed that they were stealth Republicans too, until I watched the show. I do not agree with everything they do or say, and sometimes they miss the mark. But they are far more sophisticated than Family Guy, SNL or virtually any other American satire out there. Ultimately they are at there funniest when they skewer middle class American childhood. I don't really care for their attempts to mock politics.

by Anonymousreply 73August 6, 2021 12:57 PM

R71 the Creek relationship is sweet and was a nice surprise on such a show, but honestly the fan-pandering and baiting to it got old very fast. It was never all that funny, and the cute appeal didn’t last. DGMW, obviously I’m all for more LGB characters in anything, but given the plot and the history and the way it’s been handled I don’t think there’s any need for those two SP characters in particular to stay as a couple. It’s boring, pointless fanwank that doesn’t make sense. I’d rather see a gay S/l between another pair of established kids, or an established one and a new one (even say, Tweek with a different bf).

Imo they should have made Kenny a voracious bi. Actually, there should be way more Kenny content period. He’s not only been demoted to tertiary character status, but he barely even appears at all. If they weren’t going to keep him killed off after the dystrophy thing, then they should have had a clearer and more 3D vision for what they wanted to do with him.

And that's their mentality and straight guys mentality in general--if someone we know is a minority then nothing we do is gross or offensive.

by Anonymousreply 114July 26, 2022 2:28 AM

What does Matt Stone do on the show, besides voices? Trey writes and directs all, or most, of the episodes according to the credits.

by Anonymousreply 115July 26, 2022 2:38 AM

I think Matt does the money stuff and Trey does the creative side. Matt does many of the voices, as well.

South Park is still hilarious. Mr. Garrison is such a loathsome piece of shit. Can't believe people here saying they never go after republicans. Garrison as Trump was disgusting and funny.

by Anonymousreply 116July 26, 2022 2:48 AM

The only thing that bugs the fuck out of me about "South Park" is that they do not hire union (SAG-AFTRA) voice actors.

Inexcusable!

by Anonymousreply 117July 26, 2022 2:59 AM

R117, trey and Matt do MOST of the voices. With only a week turnaround, they can't be hampered by strikes for the other voices. It's pretty well known they look after their workers

by Anonymousreply 118July 26, 2022 8:22 AM

I’m pretty sure that Trey has more or less said that Matt does nothing except some voices. I remember reading that despite that Trey felt he was an important part of the engine that made South Park work.

I think Trey has gotten a tad more empathetic as he has gotten older. I always thought Matt was the bigger asshole of the two.
