I'm taking a two hour Knitting: 101 Course

I have always admired people who knit. However, I have always been too fidgety and distracted for it to interest me other than a passing thought. However, times being what they are... I need a distraction. I found an art shop that is teaching a beginners class for two hours. We will learn: how to cast on, the knit the garter and stockinette stitch, and increase and decrease.

Will I be able to make a scarf, hat and booties for my hubby on Christmas?

Most important for a devoted spouse is the talent to damn socks for hubby, to save those buffalo nickels to damn your own nylons. It’s a household art on life support.

I wonder if Chas knits for Secy Pete.

Really OP? Crochet is far more creative and your project will be completed faster than oh so slow knitting. Please look into that if the knitting thing isn't doing it for you.

All old women should learn how to knit.

But knitting looks better R4

OP, you can definitely make a scarf and hat by Xmas. Booties and socks are more advanced but if you practice and are determined you could pull it off. Watch you tube to learn more after your class.

An extra side benefit to knitting is that the repetition of the stitches can be almost meditative. Very relaxing.

I took a knitting course years ago at the Lion and the Lamb on the UES. Can’t remember how to knit but I do remember the hysterical gay professional tap dancer who taught the class…quite the character!
