I know this is a Dan thread and not a soap thread. But I will say that Dan, in addition to being super fucking sexy, did a really, really good job with his One Life To Live role (which had been recast many, many times) and had a lot of fans who liked his work. For reasons unknown, someone at the network hated him and the character was written off.

A shame, because he was great. Great leading guy material that should have had a chance somewhere on a nighttime show.

(Same with the actor Daniel Cosgrove, another soap vet. Handsome, versatile, that kind of leading man who could play anything, from easygoing to evil and all points in between.)

R4 & R18 Yeah those sex scene look VERY convincing. I believe that movie was shot before he met his wife.

He was the object of many young gaylings desire due to Teen Witch. I still have friends who talk about the sexual awakening they had because of him in that movie. He was and is gorgeous. I haven't seen enough of his work to know if he had much range or not. Maybe that's why he never broke through.

In fairness to Daniel Cosgrove, he was the one who opted to leave all of his soap roles. He was never let go from any soap he appeared on. When he appeared on "Days of our Lives" that was always a short-term contract.

R30 That may be, but my point was, I was saying more that - somehow neither of them got lucky with primetime or movies. Gauthier and Cosgrove should have been on a show like This Is Us, A Million Little Pieces, etc.

Many of Cosgrove's soaps were cancelled (!) while he was on them.

R31 Cosgrove was on his way to been on shows you list. But he opted to put his family first, then pursue the uncertainty of prime-time. Even through Daytime was slashing budgets, and actors taking pay-cuts, you could still make more money as a contract Daytime actor, than an actor doing episodic's. That is one of the reasons why Gauthier took the OLTL gig, he needed a paying job as episodics on Prime Time were drying up

Back to Cosgrove, every time he left a soap role, it was because he landed a PrimeTime pilot that greenlit into a series, Consgrove is one of those actors who lucked into acting, All My Children was his first auction EVER - 90210 was Cosgrove first PrimeTime audition EVER

There were some of Cosgrove male peers in his age group couldn't get any gig other than a soap. So whatever Cosgrove has, he is damn lucky.

Dan always reminded me of the Soloflex guys. He was so hot in that episode of 21 Jumpstreet where he played a high school steroid dealer.

He really was great on OLTL. He played the hell out of this scene where his character breaks down at his son’s funeral, holding his own against daytime powerhouse Heather Tom.

R39, totally agreed. Ken and Dan were both sexy as hell, and still are. It was Ken who dated Jennifer, as they both starred in the first Leprechaun film. Ken also played a couple of rapists, one on Y&R (he raped Cricket) and another in 21 Jumpstreet.

Gauthier was the rare 80s actor that had the fit, muscled body we now expect from everyone. John Terlesky (mentioned in another thread) was another. Both super hot in their day.

I remember as "the Chipper" on Friends - the guy from high school that Monica went out with on a date and realized he had never grown up, still worked at the multiplex, etc.

R22, I was going to echo EXACTLY what you said about how great an actor Dan is and how good he was as Kevin Buchanan. His role, as you said, was difficult because the character was recast so many damn times. He should have won an Emmy or, at minimum, received nominations.

Ken Olandt! I’m the biggest Ken fan and have been following his career since Highway to Heaven (1984 guest appearance in a 2-part episode as a paralyzed teen) and Riptide (he played the recurring role of Dooley). He’s also another good actor, perhaps not as strong as Gauthier, but I think it’s very hard to get work, male or female, once you’re over 45. He did excellent work as Cricket’s rapist on Y&R. I remember him falling/pushed out of a window when his character died. I haven’t seen the episodes since they originally aired. He has a Facebook page and I occasionally look at pictures of him and his family. He has 5 grown kids.

John Terlesky! I mentioned him in the actors who lost their looks thread (didn’t mean to insult him; I loved him for years as an actor). Also, gorgeous and could act in the same league as Olandt. He directs now and is married to actress Jayne Brook. It’s harder to find pictures, etc. of him today. He had good comic timing as an actor (Deathstalker 2 showcases this).

Throw in Jeff Yagher, Marc Singer and Billy Warlock and you’ve covered all six of my dream guys.

Gauthier was the star of a WB sitcom called “Muscle” in which he was constantly shirtless.

OLTL often looked at the short-term dramatic impact (e.g., killing off Duke) rather than the long-term structure of core families. I cringe when I think of the missed opportunities of bringing back Jennie's "daughter" Mary or Dan Wolek, and marginalizing Kevin and never investing in Joey.
