I LOVE ALL F*****. Well you know what they say, it takes one to know one!!!

by Anonymousreply 2August 3, 2021 12:28 AM

He can go fuck himself.

Matt Damon: YOU ARE CANCELLED, MOTHERFUCKER!!!!

by Anonymousreply 3August 3, 2021 12:29 AM

Matt Damon is insisting that he has never used the “f-slur” following backlash from a recent interview.

In an article posted by the U.K.’s Sunday Times, the “Stillwater” star was quoted saying he had stopped using the offensive term “months ago” when his daughter wrote him a “treatise” on “how that word is dangerous.”

But in a statement to Variety, Damon said that he has never used the word in his “personal life” and does not “use slurs of any kind.” He also affirmed that he understands why the interview “led many to assume the worst.”

“During a recent interview, I recalled a discussion I had with my daughter where I attempted to contextualize for her the progress that has been made – though by no means completed – since I was growing up in Boston and, as a child, heard the word ‘f*g’ used on the street before I knew what it even referred to,” Damon said in the statement. “I explained that that word was used constantly and casually and was even a line of dialogue in a movie of mine as recently as 2003; she in turn expressed incredulity that there could ever have been a time where that word was used unthinkingly. To my admiration and pride, she was extremely articulate about the extent to which that word would have been painful to someone in the LGBTQ+ community regardless of how culturally normalized it was. I not only agreed with her but thrilled at her passion, values and desire for social justice.

“I have never called anyone ‘f****t’ in my personal life and this conversation with my daughter was not a personal awakening. I do not use slurs of any kind,” Damon continued. “I have learned that eradicating prejudice requires active movement toward justice rather than finding passive comfort in imagining myself ‘one of the good guys’. And given that open hostility against the LGBTQ+ community is still not uncommon, I understand why my statement led many to assume the worst. To be as clear as I can be, I stand with the LGBTQ+ community.”

R2.

by Anonymousreply 5August 3, 2021 12:30 AM

(cont.) n the Times interview, Damon was quoted saying that he had recently “retired” the offensive term after he made a joke that caused his daughter to write him a “long, beautiful treatise.”

“The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application,” he told the newspaper. “I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie ‘Stuck on You’!’ She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood.”

Damon found himself trending on Twitter as the interview was shared online. “I want to know what word Matt Damon has replaced f****t with,” comedian Billy Eichner tweeted.

by Anonymousreply 6August 3, 2021 12:30 AM

He can say "faggot" and "fag" but not "gay."

Pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 7August 3, 2021 12:31 AM

we know

by Anonymousreply 8August 3, 2021 12:33 AM

I knew it! I voted in the thread below that he'd claim that the outlet would misinterpret him. Does this make me the new Oracle?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 9August 3, 2021 12:33 AM

So how did the Times get it so wrong?

I guess we're supposed to believe that he was only repeating a joke from one of his films that used the term fag?

I'm sure he's had a rough 24 hours!

by Anonymousreply 10August 3, 2021 12:33 AM

Why did the Times say he had claimed he had "recently retired the word" and now he says he never has used it?

Something's fishy here.

by Anonymousreply 11August 3, 2021 12:34 AM

He spelled it out clearly for the Times. That is what the truth is.

He's lying now.

by Anonymousreply 12August 3, 2021 12:34 AM

So you said it as a joke, or not, Matt?

The idea that you would double down with ‘I have NEVER used that word in my personal life?” is short-sighted.

YOU’RE FROM BOSTON.

Of course, you used it and saying otherwise will entice others to show the receipts, you arrogant fuck!

by Anonymousreply 13August 3, 2021 12:36 AM

some fucking troll posting on this thread!

tainted!

a janbot too.

by Anonymousreply 14August 3, 2021 12:36 AM

He expected to be applauded for his wokeness and instead just reminded everybody of his history of fratboyish gay-themed jokes with Affleck and that mess a few years back when he was advising closeted actors to keep their private lives private. Just like he did when he informed Minnie Driver they were breaking up via an Oprah appearance where she found out along with several million other viewers. #damonsplaining

by Anonymousreply 15August 3, 2021 12:38 AM

He’s trying to lie his way out of this.

You know the old saying, “if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.”

by Anonymousreply 16August 3, 2021 12:40 AM

He can go fuck himself. Other than play a homocidal closet case 20 years ago, he hasn't done shit for "faggots" (his word, not mine).

by Anonymousreply 17August 3, 2021 12:40 AM

But is he a man of faith and this not truly who he is?

by Anonymousreply 18August 3, 2021 12:41 AM

this some BS

by Anonymousreply 19August 3, 2021 12:41 AM

by Anonymousreply 20August 3, 2021 12:43 AM

I hope someone comes forward and says that Matt is LYING.

That would be hilarious.

He would definitely be cancelled after that!

*crossing fingers*

I just want him to go away.

by Anonymousreply 21August 3, 2021 12:43 AM

Matt dear, you better go back to yesterday's interview and the conversation you had with your daughter--to which you admitted. You said that you did use the word faggot. Now you say you don't.

What up, bro? Your excuse doesn't wash.

by Anonymousreply 22August 3, 2021 12:43 AM

[quote] The idea that you would double down with ‘I have NEVER used that word in my personal life?” is short-sighted.

[quote]YOU’RE FROM BOSTON.

He never said that, though. He said he has never *called* anyone that word in his personal life. Big difference.

I don't know what the original interview with the Times expressed, but Damon isn't that stupid that he would think he could admit he's been using the word fa**ot as recently as a few months ago before his daughter had to set him straight and possibly believe the internet would in any way embrace that. It is not just tone deaf, which I know he's been guilty of in the past, but that admission is just dumb dumb dumb. I can believe that the Brit journalist who interviewed him might have misconstrued the timeline and mixed something up. The other version of it is too stupid to believe.

by Anonymousreply 23August 3, 2021 12:46 AM

Idiot Matt stan at R23 believes ANY publicity release.

[quote] But is he a man of faith

He is? I can’t imagine him being religious.

by Anonymousreply 26August 3, 2021 12:48 AM

That's quite the leap from what The Sunday Times printed to what he's saying now. It's not a "slight" misinterpretation of one word, it's like a new interpretation of the same setting and characters (Matt & his daughter at their house). I'll admit I was shocked at The Times interview. I was like "that just doesn't match up with him." I would expect Affleck or Alec Baldwin or Kevin Hart (the usual potty mouths) but Matt's not like them in that way. At least I hope. Maybe those jokes about him on Family Guy are true & he's a total creep🤷‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 27August 3, 2021 12:48 AM

[quote] Matt Damon: "I stand with the LGBTQ+ community"

by Anonymousreply 28August 3, 2021 12:48 AM

I'm in no way a stan, R24, but from all we've heard from him over the years, that interview just didn't seem believable yesterday. I kept thinking something was off. As I said, I never took Damon for an idiot, and that interview seemed like an idiotic thing to admit.

by Anonymousreply 29August 3, 2021 12:51 AM

His daughter is going to be SO GROUNDED after this.

She'll be wishing she was Christina Crawford, instead!

This will be the scene tonight at Matt's house...

by Anonymousreply 30August 3, 2021 12:52 AM

I agree with R29 and R27 - this shocked everyone because it is so out of character and he's a seasoned interviewer and would know not to say something like that.

Sounds like the Times reporter wanted something salacious. Who was the reporter? Now I have to go look it up.

by Anonymousreply 31August 3, 2021 12:53 AM

The whole thing smacks of his getting out ahead of something he was afraid was going to be made public.

Nothing more than self-serving bullshit on his part.

by Anonymousreply 32August 3, 2021 12:54 AM

Well, what was this nonsense about his daughter correcting him just a few months ago regarding using the f-word? It happened or it didn't.

He said his daughter wrote some sort of letter to him about using the word. Damon called the document a "treatise." Did she write it or not?

by Anonymousreply 33August 3, 2021 12:56 AM

The Times just fabricates articles out of thin air?

Matt didn't get an advance digital copy?

You're an idiot, R29 / R31.

by Anonymousreply 34August 3, 2021 12:56 AM

He needs to talk about blowing Ben.

by Anonymousreply 35August 3, 2021 12:56 AM

Either the writer of the original article was totally lying, just making shit up, or Matt is lying now to cover his ass. The journalist had no reason to lie, and a lot to lose. Matt has every reason to lie and nothing to lose by lying now.

I rest my case.

by Anonymousreply 38August 3, 2021 12:58 AM

What happened to his daughter's eloquent and thoughtful letter to him. Who does his PR? Lol

by Anonymousreply 39August 3, 2021 12:59 AM

I’m 99.9% confident the person who interviewed Matt had the sense to record it. They should call him out in his bullshit.

LOL!!!!!

The article is REAL.

CANVEL Matt and craven apologists like R51.

by Anonymousreply 55August 3, 2021 1:40 AM

Except the interview was recorded.

by Anonymousreply 56August 3, 2021 1:41 AM

The article couldn’t be made up because it was all quotes. If it wasn’t direct quotes and it was just a retelling by the journalist then I could see how it could be misconstrued but it wasn’t. It was direct quotes.

by Anonymousreply 57August 3, 2021 1:45 AM

BUMP

by Anonymousreply 58August 3, 2021 1:55 AM

I am curious whether the Times reporter will contradict this.

by Anonymousreply 59August 3, 2021 1:57 AM

[quote]The whole thing smacks of his getting out ahead of something he was afraid was going to be made public.

This doesn't make any sense. He is commenting today on a quote he made in an interview published yesterday. If he was trying to get ahead of it he's a bit late.

This was the actual quote: “The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application,” he told the newspaper.

Nowhere in this quote does Damon say he was using the slur all the time up until a few months ago. He said he *made a joke* a few months ago, but did not share the joke in the interview. Also nowhere in this story is he claiming that he uses this word in his personal life and he is *just* now "retiring" it from his daily lexicon. He does, however, explain that this word was commonly used when he was a kid with a different connotation, and so one might extrapolate from this explanation that the joke he told his daughter was born out of this "different application" - which he says in the movie Stuck On You - as an example, which prompted her writing a treatise.

But this was how the article and the quote were received - including here and on the previous thread. Here is an example of a headline Matt Damon Dragged for Only Just Giving Up Gay 'F-Slur' Matt Damon Receives Backlash After Admitting He Just Recently Stopped Using the 'F-Slur' Why Did Matt Damon Think Calling Gay Men 'F**gots' Was OK ...

That is not what he says in this Times interview. So he came out to clarify the actual conversation he had with his daughter. What he says now DOES align with his earlier comment - "a discussion I had with my daughter where I attempted to contextualize for her the progress that has been made – though by no means completed – since I was growing up in Boston and, as a child, heard the word ‘f*g’ used on the street before I knew what it even referred to,” Damon said in the statement. “I explained that that word was used constantly and casually and was even a line of dialogue in a movie of mine as recently as 2003; she in turn expressed incredulity that there could ever have been a time where that word was used unthinkingly."

So once again, people don't know how to read, or they are in such a hurry to tweet about it they didn't pay attention to the actual words. Nothing he is saying now discounts what was quoted in the interview, bitches, so calm down. I actually saw Stuck On You when it came out, so now I am trying to find the joke.

by Anonymousreply 60August 3, 2021 1:58 AM

[Quote] Nowhere in this story is he claiming that he uses this word in his personal life

Telling a joke isn't part of his personal life? Has Matt Damon been doing stand up recently?

by Anonymousreply 64August 3, 2021 2:02 AM

Amanda Knox is pissed at Matt Damon too!

Amanda Knox is calling out Matt Damon and creative team behind the film "Stillwater" for the "fictionalization" of her story. The 34-year-old wrote on her website Thursday that the film, "reinforces an image of me as a guilty and untrustworthy person."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 65August 3, 2021 2:06 AM

Oh, THAT "F" word!

by Anonymousreply 66August 3, 2021 2:06 AM

I am simply reading the text. What he said in the interview was that he made a JOKE a few months ago, and the internet took this to meant that Damon uses the slur all the time and he only just stopped using this word a few months ago when his daughter called him out. This is what every headline reads. But it is NOT what he said. The joke was born out of his discussion about the word with his daughter. And when he used it in a joke as an example of how they used to talk, his daughter took offense. I am annoyed because the headlines are jumping to something that is not what he said.

So no, the Times didn't take his words out of context, the internet did. As it is wont to do. I don't understand how people who can read cannot see what he is saying here.

by Anonymousreply 67August 3, 2021 2:10 AM

If you never said it, why did your daughter write a paper to you on why you should not say it? Reason number 1000 to have a publicist check your anecdotes before you use them.

by Anonymousreply 68August 3, 2021 2:11 AM

I'm at the point where I find him more annoying than Mark Wahlberg.

by Anonymousreply 69August 3, 2021 2:12 AM

If he ever said the F word once in his life, no matter what the context, he should be canceled.

by Anonymousreply 70August 3, 2021 2:16 AM

[quote]He never said that, though. He said he has never *called* anyone that word in his personal life. Big difference. I don't know what the original interview with the Times expressed, but

Then perhaps you should read the interview R23?

[quote]I am annoyed because the headlines are jumping to something that is not what he said.

So pretty much everyone on the internet, plus people who are also reporters who just happen to read what's on the internet got it wrong?

When the Boston Globe and LA Times, Hollywood Reporter and Deadline are "misinterpreting" what an article said then they're probably not misinterpreting it as much as they're reading what's there.

The easier answer is that Damon fucked up promoting his film thinking this would get him sympathy and align him more closely with the character he's playing and the audience he wants and it BACKFIRED. Now his Publicist is doing damage control, despite the fact that they already gave a go to what was in print because I doubt they didn't get to read it first.

by Anonymousreply 71August 3, 2021 2:18 AM

We all knew a “taken out of context” excuse was coming.🙄

by Anonymousreply 72August 3, 2021 2:19 AM

[quote]I don't know what the original interview with the Times expressed, but

[quote]Then perhaps you should read the interview [R23]?

R23 here. I did read what was printed. By original, I was simply referring to the recorded interview between the two.

I still don't think he is negating what he said, he is just giving context to the discussion which prompted the joke. And yeah, he might have used this little anecdote as a way to appeal to the people he is playing in the movie, as a way to make it relatable. I don't know. Either way, he should have clarified in the actual interview, or been clearer. But there is still a lot of assumption going on. I thought it was a weird thing to admit at first, but with the rest of the story, I now get what he was saying. Using it, even for a joke to illuminate how it was used once in his youth to his daughter, is still not good, and this is why she responded as strongly as she did. They were debating the word being used at all, in any connotation, even if it wasn't in its original context. Like calling things gay. Now we know better. I still see people clinging to this notion that he only just got a clue to stop using this word casually in 2021, and that rings hollow.

Y'all are having a hissy fit over nothing.

by Anonymousreply 79August 3, 2021 2:32 AM

[quote] ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie ‘Stuck on You’!’

Does he consider this film a showcase of comic genius!?

The person who claimed that Matt expected to be lauded for his “wokeness” is correct. And honestly if his daughter went to her room and wrote him a “treatise” about it, I’m guessing this had been building up and she finally had had enough. If it had just happened once randomly I don’t think it would inspire the writing of a treatise.

by Anonymousreply 91August 3, 2021 4:07 AM

Sounds more like his intention was to praise his daughter for being so woke and it’s just completely backfired on him.

by Anonymousreply 92August 3, 2021 4:10 AM

The funniest thing about all of this is, until recently Matt Damon was very private when it came to his personal life. Now for whatever reason he's been opening up and it's blowing up in his face.

Damon got in trouble a few years ago for saying something stupid like this and was roundly criticized. I'm not sure how his story this time works. If he "only" used that word in his movies, was his daughter there on set to hear it? What he heard in Southie when he was a child has no bearing on what is considered correct today. He knows the difference, and it doesn't seem to matter to him. He was just jumping on the woke bandwagon and made a complete mess of it. He put this out to appear to be woke, and to get some PR, and it blew up on him. I've never thought that he was too bright.

by Anonymousreply 100August 3, 2021 5:30 AM

[quote] If you never said it, why did your daughter write a paper to you on why you should not say it?

His daughter did not write a paper or letter or essay to him. The interview never said that. You are all misreading it. His explanation lines up perfectly with what he said in the interview. He was giving his daughter a history lesson on the word faggot and doing it through humor such as jokes as that’s the only way to get through to teens. At the end of the lesson he gave his daughter a written test or treatise to make sure she understood everything. And the test was what she wrote and turned in. By the way, she passed with flying colors. A POZ!

by Anonymousreply 101August 3, 2021 5:58 AM

Yes, 'faggot' is still commonly used by straights. I usually associate it with trashy and uneducated idiots or old farts. Matt Damon is high-profile Hollywood actor, he grew up with a mother who was a professor and he went to Harvard (though dropped out). What excuse does he have? He came from a rather respectable middle-class home. Why was still using it as a 50-year-old who has worked with hundreds of gay men in the film industry? I really think this had to be a publicity stunt for his new film. He is an idiot for thinking this wouldn't backfire and he made himself look like a homophobic dumbass.

by Anonymousreply 102August 3, 2021 6:07 AM

Matt's best buddy Ben Affleck and his weaselly brother Casey both have sexual abuse allegations against them. The fact Matt, Ben and Casey are all associated with Weinstein doesn't help their case.

by Anonymousreply 103August 3, 2021 6:11 AM

Somebody was about to release something about Matt Damon being a homophobe so he jumped ahead of it, using the incident with his daughter as the teachable moment. Americans can be really careless with the feelings of gays in particular and will quickly forget. Now the "f-bomb" is out so if somebody releases something, it can be conflated with this incident minimizing his prospect for cancellation.

Billy Eichner - keep this alive on Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 104August 3, 2021 6:13 AM

A clear closet case, insatiable bottom Matt

by Anonymousreply 105August 3, 2021 6:14 AM

Why a bottom, R105?

by Anonymousreply 106August 3, 2021 6:23 AM

A top can always tell, R106. It's a primal instinct. He's a deeply repressed bottom

by Anonymousreply 107August 3, 2021 6:26 AM

Sadly for many here on DL, most "straight" married men are almost always bottoms. They can get a hole at home.

by Anonymousreply 108August 3, 2021 6:28 AM

I always thought he and Mark Wahlberg looked related. It seems both are homophobes who used gay men for their career advancements.

by Anonymousreply 109August 3, 2021 6:47 AM

A ha, r87, of course! lmao

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

And surely "I stand with the LGBTQ+ community" belongs in the "Words or Phrases You Hate" thread because it's usually uttered by empty, pretentiously woke cunts like Matt Damon.

by Anonymousreply 110August 3, 2021 7:39 AM

Well that’s a clearly statement written by his PR team. Which completely contradicts the first interview. One is obviously a lie—but which one, hmm?

by Anonymousreply 111August 3, 2021 8:01 AM

Clean-up on aisle 6

by Anonymousreply 112August 3, 2021 11:37 AM

[quote] During a recent interview, I recalled a discussion I had with my daughter where I attempted to contextualize for her the progress that has been made – though by no means completed – since I was growing up in Boston and, as a child, heard the word ‘f*g’ used on the street before I knew what it even referred to,” Damon said in the statement. “I explained that that word was used constantly and casually and was even a line of dialogue in a movie of mine as recently as 2003

OK, now he's just embarrassing himself; this is clearly not the story he told originally.

by Anonymousreply 113August 3, 2021 11:42 AM

Let’s look back:

Insulted President Obama by saying that he’d prefer a one-term president with balls while ignoring the fact that he was partially shackled by the republicans from getting a lot of his plans off the ground.

Tells a black woman filmmaker what he thinks diversity on a film set should be. She rightfully stated that it was important that it should be on BOTH sides of the camera, and he didn’t merely disagree with her, but was quite dismissive, telling her that it only mattered in front of the cameras.

Suggested that LGB actors remain closeted to maintain an air of “mystery” about them, to not put so much of their personal lives on display to the public. We’ve been bombarded with every aspect of his personal life from day one. His girlfriends, his wife and children, yada yada yada.

Mansplaining the Weinstein scandal and he and his buddies Ben Affleck’s and George Clooney’s connections to it all.

I’m sure that I missed something. But I don’t think that I’m wrong here. He’s showing his hypocrisy and his selective memory.

by Anonymousreply 114August 3, 2021 3:03 PM

So overnight Damon's shifted from Harvey Weinstein to Harvey Milk. Such a versatile actor!

by Anonymousreply 115August 3, 2021 3:15 PM

I stand with the faggots!

by Anonymousreply 116August 3, 2021 4:00 PM

Do you guys honestly enjoy this brave new world?

I preferred when people were truthful and just called us faggots. At least we knew where everyone stood.

by Anonymousreply 117August 3, 2021 4:02 PM

Don't worry Dejure, they still call us faggots.

They just wait until the door closes behind us.

by Anonymousreply 118August 3, 2021 4:05 PM

LMAO, Dejure, you of all people should be savoring this. Matts one of those hypocrotical libtards your hero Fucker Carlson is always complaining about.

by Anonymousreply 119August 3, 2021 4:06 PM

I never actually personally used the word "cunt" to describe Miss Damon.

Until now.

And why would this idiot, after so many years of carefully cultivating his image and paying off all those people with revelatory stories decide to stand on his own petard now and blow himself 50-feet-high with it?

Never mind the shit MAGA(s) here. "Call me 'faggot' so I know you're hot" has never been a proper way to deal with homophobia.

by Anonymousreply 120August 3, 2021 4:10 PM

You can’t stand on a petard. It’s an explosive device.

by Anonymousreply 121August 3, 2021 4:14 PM

A black friend of mine (yes, a Token Black Friend) is a native Texan who went to college in Boston. He said he never experienced the racism in Texas he had to put up with in Boston.

Boston is full of bigots.

by Anonymousreply 122August 3, 2021 4:15 PM

DeFAGto is a drunken alcoholic faggot!

by Anonymousreply 123August 3, 2021 5:41 PM

The NYT is inflammatory. I believe him.

by Anonymousreply 124August 3, 2021 7:57 PM

"Ben, you said the fags would forgive us for anything because we're so hot and so straight! Ben! Fucking fags!"

by Anonymousreply 125August 3, 2021 10:17 PM

Well, Matt grew up in Cambridge, which is not quite the same thing as Boston.

And he went to Cambridge Ridge and Latin, which is pretty much a feeder into the Ivy League.

It's not like he is from Dorchester.

by Anonymousreply 126August 4, 2021 2:10 AM

Didn’t he live on a commune?

by Anonymousreply 127August 4, 2021 2:38 AM

That was Affleck, R127.

by Anonymousreply 128August 4, 2021 2:45 AM

R121, you're ignorant of petards, you tard. We all know what a petard is, and many can be stood upon before they explode and hoist the owners into the air.

Go ahead. Stand on one. We all will make sure the fuse is lit.

by Anonymousreply 129August 4, 2021 3:13 AM

Only a moron would stand upon a petard, regardless of the ownership of the petard.

by Anonymousreply 130August 4, 2021 5:26 AM

R129 R130

by Anonymousreply 131August 4, 2021 6:49 AM

R124 It was the British Sunday Times

by Anonymousreply 132August 4, 2021 9:19 AM

Where is the original journalist with a recording of exactly what Damon said? I need this to happen.

by Anonymousreply 133August 4, 2021 9:58 AM

Quite possibly it'll be conveyed to the original journalist that if the recording has further exposure, said journalist will never get close to an A-List interview ever again.

by Anonymousreply 134August 4, 2021 12:30 PM

R60 already posted the original quote.

[quote]“The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application,” he told the newspaper.

It matches what he said in his clarification, NOT all the Twitter "he's been saying 'f*ggot' for decades" reactions.

by Anonymousreply 135August 4, 2021 12:39 PM

R134 Excactly, plus it doesn't hurt the Sunday Times anyway because no-one believes Damon.

R135 If he hasn't been using it regularly, what exactly is there to retire? Any decent person 'retired' their use of it literally decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 136August 4, 2021 12:42 PM

Much of the problem is that this was an interview in the UK Sunday Times which is paywalled, but a lot of this was Twitter overreaction.

Damon is clearly differentiating between calling people f*ggots and using the word in a joke. Of course he shouldn't have been using the slur in a joke, but the social media take was that he had been calling gays that word for decades, which wasn't true.

by Anonymousreply 137August 4, 2021 12:47 PM

R137.

by Anonymousreply 138August 4, 2021 12:49 PM

R137 So you think the target of the people within the jokes weren't gay? So as long as you wrap your bigoted insult up in a punchline, suddenly it's fine? Fuck off you self-hating cunt.

by Anonymousreply 139August 4, 2021 12:50 PM

You're going to have to go find someone who cares that an angry Datalounger just called them a "self-hating cunt," r139. I am not that person.

Datalounge is riddled with slurs 24/7, including "f*ggot," and easily 95% of Dataloungers don't even notice or care about that, so I'm not convinced you're legitimately angry about this, either.

by Anonymousreply 140August 4, 2021 12:55 PM

Ah, so you're also the kind of person who insists they should be allowed to use the n-word because some black people do.

And by the way, the fact you replied proves you do care.

by Anonymousreply 141August 4, 2021 12:57 PM

He thought he was telling a funny anecdote. I told a fag joke and my daughter schooled me on not to use the f word, then realized is made him sound like he used it all the time before that.....which let's be honest be probably did. I read about what Matt is like when a producer on Project Greenlight made a comment about diversity and Matt flew off the handle about that PC bullshit. He is just in career-saving mode.

by Anonymousreply 142August 4, 2021 1:54 PM

He’s getting worse if he supports the TQ+ cult.

Cancel this motherfucker as violently as possible. There should be less than zero tolerance for homophobia. The only reason Eminem didn’t get the same treatment as Anita Bryant is because he is white and male.

by Anonymousreply 143August 4, 2021 2:10 PM

This is why hate speech needs to be a capital crime.

by Anonymousreply 144August 4, 2021 2:12 PM

Matt and his BFFs Ben and George are poseurs when it comes to social issues.

by Anonymousreply 145August 4, 2021 2:17 PM

I'd say 80% of 'SJW' crap is poseur posturing.

by Anonymousreply 146August 4, 2021 2:20 PM

[Quote] Of course he shouldn't have been using the slur in a joke, but the social media take was that he had been calling gays that word for decades, which wasn't true.

Your defense is like saying "The n-word is in the lyrics, I'm not calling someone in front of me the n-word."

It's quite simple: Don't use the slur. Damon did and the fact that it was a punchline to a joke doesn't mean he's blameless.

by Anonymousreply 147August 4, 2021 2:21 PM

A lot of celebrities attended the BLM rallies almost as if they were mini Coachellas.

by Anonymousreply 148August 4, 2021 2:22 PM

The progressive movement is just a GOP plot to scare people into voting for them. The entire left is basically one large Republican sock puppet at this point.

by Anonymousreply 149August 4, 2021 2:29 PM

[quote]Your defense is like saying "The n-word is in the lyrics, I'm not calling someone in front of me the n-word."

r147, it's not a defense, it's pointing out that "Damon is clearly differentiating between calling people f*ggots and using the word in a joke." That's the truth. That's exactly what he did, clarify that he used the word in jokes but never called people slurs directly.

That's HIS defense. I didn't say he was blameless. I didn't defend him.

I'm quite frankly tired of Dataloungers like you putting words into other peoples' mouths just so you can have something to scream and complain about.

by Anonymousreply 150August 4, 2021 2:29 PM

[quote] A lot of celebrities attended the BLM rallies almost as if they were mini Coachellas.

I see those signs in places that don’t even have as many Black people as they have signs about them!

by Anonymousreply 151August 4, 2021 2:30 PM

[Quote] I'm quite frankly tired

Then have a piece of bread.

by Anonymousreply 152August 4, 2021 2:33 PM

R117 is why it’s okay for gays to call breeders breeders. I fucking hate breeders.

by Anonymousreply 153August 4, 2021 2:34 PM

This is absolutely crazy. The crowd on social media lying in wait to be outraged goes after a guy who admits that he used the f word in the past as a go-to humorous jibe. His daughter called him out for it. He realized that, yeah, his daughter is right. And he apologizes for his past behavior.

Matt Damon should be applauded for his honesty, self-reflection, and his change of heart.

Get outraged at pastors, priests, politicians, and other public figures who demonize the LGBT community and LGBT individuals.

And, oh...for the record....I an out and proud gay man used the f-word as a slur when I was a closeted teenager. Cancel me, Woke People!

by Anonymousreply 154August 4, 2021 2:40 PM

The Damon fanbots on here are being ridiculous. R15 said it all:

[quote] He expected to be applauded for his wokeness and instead just reminded everybody of his history of fratboyish gay-themed jokes with Affleck ...

by Anonymousreply 155August 4, 2021 3:03 PM

Please cancel R154 for a number of reasons, including his Fag-bashing apologist behavior.

R155, too.

by Anonymousreply 156August 4, 2021 3:04 PM

R154 and R155 said completely opposite things on the issue, R156. Make up your mind.

by Anonymousreply 157August 4, 2021 3:08 PM

Matt Damon used in the very recent past and he was put out that his daughter didn't enjoy his joke... That tells you all you need to know.

by Anonymousreply 158August 4, 2021 3:12 PM

You are so fucking canceled it isn’t even funny anymore, R154. Your use of that acronym outs you as an Uncle Tom and a quisling along with your pride in using hate speech to describe yourself.

by Anonymousreply 159August 4, 2021 3:14 PM

He is still using hate speech against us. He is saying that gay men are not real men.

by Anonymousreply 160August 4, 2021 3:15 PM

I assume he said what he said in the original interview to dispel any rumors he’s gay.

He’s an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 161August 4, 2021 3:16 PM

[Quote] I assume he said what he said in the original interview to dispel any rumors he’s gay. He’s an idiot.

Matt Damon is old.

by Anonymousreply 162August 4, 2021 3:22 PM

[quote]The crowd on social media lying in wait to be outraged goes after a guy who admits that he used the f word in the past as a go-to humorous jibe.

The problem is you're saying, "the past" like it was 1948. It wasn't that long ago which is why he's just telling the story now.

[quote]And, oh...for the record....I an out and proud gay man used the f-word as a slur when I was a closeted teenager. Cancel me, Woke People!

Yes, you were a closeted teenager and not a 50 year old straight man who recently realized that he shouldn't use the word.

Not using the term "fag" when you're straight isn't a "woke" thing.

by Anonymousreply 163August 4, 2021 3:29 PM

Bill Maher defends Matt from Twitter and others in the pitchfork mob:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 164August 14, 2021 4:39 AM

"I recently stopped telling n word jokes to my kids lmao I'm woke right guise?!!"

by Anonymousreply 165August 14, 2021 6:54 AM

Bill Maher is a loudmouth who loves the sound of his own voice. He gets a boner being contrary.

by Anonymousreply 166August 16, 2021 1:48 AM

Is Maher wanting to fuck Damon, or getting $ or some other deal?

Yes Matt Damon has a clean water charity..on camera. He delivers food to Haiti.. on camera. Is this lovely family man..on camera. Real charity is done without humiliating those receipts of your 'charity' by filming their need. Ram that camera, Matt you attention whore. Wonderful family men keep their families off camera to keep them safe . Real family men don't use their child to show how evolved & Woke they have become re:gay men.

So, Maher is the new improved apologist for Damon, not sure why, don't care why. Just can't stand apologists. Actually Maher is more an apparatchik in this instance. How demeaning for him.

by Anonymousreply 167August 16, 2021 2:36 AM
