Chicago Lollapalooza: We thought you were smarter than this!

Chicago's four-day Lollapalooza music festival returned Thursday after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees of the festival are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result no older than 72 hours.

Unvaccinated attendees are required to wear a mask. (Yeah, right!)

A shorter and smaller festival in the Netherlands reported similar procedures and still saw a spike in cases

Original covid-19 said, "Look how many people I can infect!" And the Delta variant said, "Hold my beer."

by Anonymousreply 1August 1, 2021 8:53 AM

This is f*cking ridiculous. Vaccinated or not this event and others like it should not be happening yet.

by Anonymousreply 2August 1, 2021 8:54 AM

Oy.

Arkansas GOP congressman Rick Crawford says that he doesn’t think Covid is any worse than the common cold.

And his medical degree is from where?

Congressman Crawford forgot about the 625,000 dead.

by Anonymousreply 5August 1, 2021 9:00 AM

Someone from Twitter wrote: My niece is in ICU right now with Covid...not a cold.

by Anonymousreply 6August 1, 2021 9:01 AM

this is exactly why covid loves america and will stay here as long as possible

Well, which fucking is it?

I suspect their ticket purchase policy is not run on the honor system.

by Anonymousreply 8August 1, 2021 9:02 AM

The congressman said: "I'm not downplaying it" but "it's like the common cold."

Yes, you are. And no, it's not.

by Anonymousreply 9August 1, 2021 9:04 AM

Are the medical professionals and hospital personnel supposed to never leave work, never go home? And always put themselves at risk?

by Anonymousreply 10August 1, 2021 9:07 AM

[quote]We thought you were smarter than this!

Nah, as humans we have been lulled into a false sense of immortality. Oh they have a pill for that or a shot for this when there are actually many things in this world that are on a mission to kill you.

Are anti-maskers any different from all the gays in the 80's who refused to alter their lives to not die from a deadly disease we knew was preventable and thus prolonging the pandemic?

by Anonymousreply 11August 1, 2021 9:07 AM

Well, we asked for it. It's here: White Boy Summer.

by Anonymousreply 12August 1, 2021 9:09 AM

R11. The AIDS crisis of the '80s was vastly different and multi-layered. I'm not excusing anyone who knew about safe sex and didn't practice it. But Covid is spread by breathing, which you must do. AIDS is spread by having sex, which you can avoid. In the '80s there was no leadership or political will. The drugs to prevent HIV were highly toxic. Getting a vaccine is a simple procedure.

Yes, there are similarities in mind set, but even porn companies made the performers wear condoms for a few years. And the HIV cases did decrease. Covid is spreading because people want to follow Trump and think that the vaccine is a microchip inside your body and your keys are magnetized to your forehead.

by Anonymousreply 13August 1, 2021 9:15 AM

I wonder how much Polish sausage was eaten at this event.

by Anonymousreply 14August 1, 2021 10:58 AM

It's not worth the effort, r13. That guy has been trolling DL with "gays who spread AIDS are just as bad as people who won't wear masks" talking points for the better part of 18 months now. He won't respond to reason.

by Anonymousreply 15August 1, 2021 11:03 AM

Oh yes, in a crowd like that, the unvaccinated are supposed to wear masks. Who's checking?

by Anonymousreply 16August 1, 2021 12:10 PM

Arrest the performers, producers and promoters.

It’s easier than arresting the idiot mob.

by Anonymousreply 17August 1, 2021 12:12 PM

I’ve gone from thinking COVID has killed too many people to COVID hasn’t killed enough people.

by Anonymousreply 18August 1, 2021 1:24 PM

[quote]It's not worth the effort, [R13]. That guy has been trolling DL with "gays who spread AIDS are just as bad as people who won't wear masks" talking points for the better part of 18 months now. He won't respond to reason.

I don't know who the fuck you are talking about but it's not me. This is the first I have mentioned this correlation because I was thinking this morning about the book and HBO Movie "And The Band Played On" where there were scenes of people protesting closing bath houses and refusing to listen to Doctors.

by Anonymousreply 19August 1, 2021 1:57 PM

[quote]I’ve gone from thinking COVID has killed too many people to COVID hasn’t killed enough people.

Why? There will always be assholes.

by Anonymousreply 20August 1, 2021 2:10 PM

And they want us the vaccinated, to continue to wear masks so we do not infect the unvaccinated? Does anyone see a problem here?

Where I live the deplorables and the ignorant blacks REFUSE to get vaccinated, an most don't wear masks. I am not wearing a mask until the vaccination goes up substantially. I'm not masking at the grocery store so you can go get infected at a concert, sporting event or church.

by Anonymousreply 21August 1, 2021 3:58 PM

They're all going to get so fucking sick.

by Anonymousreply 22August 1, 2021 4:02 PM

what r17 said.

by Anonymousreply 23August 1, 2021 4:14 PM

What was the fucking lineup? I want to know who to hate today

by Anonymousreply 24August 1, 2021 4:16 PM

Unvaxxed attendees should be turned away, can't believe they are letting them in.

by Anonymousreply 25August 1, 2021 4:25 PM

Just unvaxxed?

by Anonymousreply 26August 1, 2021 4:29 PM

So again. Who is playing?

by Anonymousreply 27August 1, 2021 5:34 PM

Ever heard of Google, R27?

by Anonymousreply 28August 1, 2021 6:09 PM

Ridiculous that an event like this is on. Fuck the organizers, fuck the musicians who took part and fuck the people who attended.

Darwinism at its finest.

by Anonymousreply 29August 1, 2021 6:13 PM

Oh this fall should be quite interesting to say the least.

I’ve given up on this world along time ago.

There’s nothing redeeming about this place.

by Anonymousreply 30August 1, 2021 6:16 PM

hmmm

by Anonymousreply 31August 1, 2021 6:20 PM

r31, vax id's are not being checked at most venues across the US. They're just being posted and that it. This is why we will have covid for years. No one outs any of these places. They should be shamed into submission.

by Anonymousreply 32August 1, 2021 6:23 PM

The four-day music festival will close on Sunday with headliners Foo Fighters playing to 𝟏𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 people

And half the thread is trying to divert onto some republican nobody knows from another state six hundred miles away.

I didn't know urban Chicago Foo Fighters fans were so influenced by Arkansas.

by Anonymousreply 36August 1, 2021 11:13 PM

"What was the fucking lineup?"

Jimmy Osmond, Englebert Humperdinck, Charo, Vanilla Ice, Taylor Dayne, Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine, The Village People, Banarama and Debbie Gibson.

by Anonymousreply 39August 1, 2021 11:29 PM

Enough with the pearl clutching. Its an outside event. People were far apart. 90% of people had masks on and yes they were checking everyone. You had to check in to enter and get a wrist band. They weren't fucking around.

by Anonymousreply 40August 1, 2021 11:33 PM

Grupo Firme 7 sold out shows that is 140,000 fans total. THEY say masks are required to "get in the door" but ZERO are wearing them inside. Plus, no "vax checking" at the door. NONE! Look at Staples Center social media accounts. This is bullshit!

R41 I see they are killing brown people only.

by Anonymousreply 42August 1, 2021 11:44 PM

agree, r42.

by Anonymousreply 43August 1, 2021 11:47 PM

I live in New Orleans and feel like this event is the canary down the mine for our two biggest music festivals, Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest. They were canceled last year and moved this year from spring to fall. They are big money makers for a city with a tourism-based industry that has obviously been hit hard, but I don't see how either will go forward or how the Chicago event won't be a super spreader event. Before Delta, I thought we could go ahead but now... Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 44August 2, 2021 12:44 AM

So R31 is a pearl clutcher, R40?

by Anonymousreply 45August 2, 2021 12:53 AM

Wonderful.😑. And cases have already been going up in Illinois. And a lot of these people are from out of town so they will be taking the virus with them back to wherever they’re from.

This will never end.

by Anonymousreply 46August 2, 2021 12:56 AM

r40 = Steve Wonder

by Anonymousreply 47August 2, 2021 12:57 AM

Forget this, just wait until school starts, ours will not be wearing masks.

by Anonymousreply 48August 2, 2021 1:01 AM

When will masks become ineffective?

by Anonymousreply 49August 2, 2021 1:02 AM

here is a photo of the crowd! how many will end in a hospital bed?

Lollapalooza Had More Than 385,000 People, Officials Announce After Lightfoot Defended Holding Fest During Pandemic

Mayor Lori Lightfoot attends Lollapalooza music festival amid reinstating COVID restrictions

Sports reporter Julio Rausseo commented on Lightfoot’s apparent hypocrisy tweeting "According to @klefurgy, it’s not a big deal since @chicagosmayor is backstage @lollapalooza. What’s odd is, the mayor is masked outdoors with the general public but not with the boujie celebrities."

by Anonymousreply 52August 3, 2021 4:41 AM

Assuming they are vaccinated they won't r50. If they are unvaxxed fuck em.

by Anonymousreply 53August 3, 2021 6:10 AM

That event looks like hell even without COVID

by Anonymousreply 54August 3, 2021 7:53 AM

R54 of course, huge outdoor festivals like Lollapalooza usually have a few casualties due to overdose or overexhaustion etc

by Anonymousreply 55August 3, 2021 8:47 AM

[quote]Lollapalooza Had More Than 385,000 People, Officials Announce After Lightfoot Defended Holding Fest During Pandemic

Lightfoot is such a moron.

by Anonymousreply 56August 3, 2021 12:05 PM

[quote]When will masks become ineffective?

Honey, the masks are more effective than the vaccine. Why do you think there were less Covid cases this same time last year? The difference is that there were mask mandates. This whole surge started as soon as the dumbasses at the CDC said throw the masks off if you’re vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 57August 3, 2021 12:07 PM

i wonder if anyone did drugs?

by Anonymousreply 58August 3, 2021 12:22 PM

[quote]Honey, the masks are more effective than the vaccine. Why do you think there were less Covid cases this same time last year?

I see, kween.

by Anonymousreply 59August 3, 2021 12:39 PM

R59 I love how you totally left out the rest of my response to suit your agenda, so I’ll post the rest of it for you.

[quote]The difference is that there were mask mandates. This whole surge started as soon as the dumbasses at the CDC said throw the masks off if you’re vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 60August 3, 2021 12:43 PM

Got it kween.

by Anonymousreply 61August 3, 2021 12:44 PM

R61 Good! 👍

by Anonymousreply 62August 3, 2021 12:45 PM

Werq.

by Anonymousreply 63August 3, 2021 12:46 PM

I don't see the problem. No one who got a test 72 hours ago got a false negative because of insufficient viral load and is now infectious. No one who got a negative test 72 hours ago was subsequently infected. No vaccinated person can be infected or can infect others. Masks protect everyone even if they're standing close together for hours at a time.

Right?

by Anonymousreply 64August 3, 2021 12:48 PM

r5 Yet I bet this hypocrite thinks of himself as pro life.

by Anonymousreply 65August 3, 2021 12:49 PM

The first Lollapalooza, nearly 30 years ago, was when AIDS was still in full swing. I recall saying no to dick because of it- so sad.

by Anonymousreply 66August 3, 2021 12:57 PM

At least some media now questioning this bonehead idea, given the ease of Delta transmission.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67August 3, 2021 2:27 PM

The reality is if you are vaccinated even if you get covid you will almost certainly just ride it out at home and not clog up the healthcare system.

As long as people are vaccinated then delta is a manageable risk.

by Anonymousreply 68August 3, 2021 2:48 PM

R68 I'm vaccinated and going out but still trying to avoid big crowds. The fact is we don't know and won't know the longterm effects of COVID for quite some time.

by Anonymousreply 69August 3, 2021 5:01 PM

What R69 said; plus, how many vaccinated people who contract covid even get symptoms and get tested? Nice for them, but meanwhile they're spreading the virus, which takes the opportunity to change and strengthen even more.

by Anonymousreply 70August 3, 2021 5:03 PM

Read between the lines people. There is a lot of money to be made for the city, event holders, and hotels in the area. If it didn’t make a lot of money it would have been canceled due to COVID.

by Anonymousreply 71August 4, 2021 12:38 PM

I worked hospitality in college. It had its ups and downs. The idea of working at a hotel during COVID and especially a crazy event like this...FUCK ME

by Anonymousreply 72August 4, 2021 4:12 PM

The 2021 NY Auto Show was just cancelled due to Delta. Musical acts will start to withdraw from the great lawn concert, if they're smart. then it will be shutdown.

by Anonymousreply 74August 4, 2021 11:14 PM

Anyone promoting, playing or sponsoring large gatherings need theirs heads cut off and their bodies thrown into a ditch.

END OF FUCKING STORY!
