Let me get this straight, just because I have money, I cannot show any support for underprivileged people? Think what you want about this guy, but he has raised more money for good causes than any of his critics on DL.
And isn't it funny that right wing outlets like Faux News and the NY Post are so interested in where Shaun King lives but they never gave a fuck about BLM? Fuck them and fuck you, OP.

And I don't know where you live, but 800K for a house in NJ is not "lavish". Even if the guy lived in a shed, you and Rupert Murdoch would complain about his shoes being to expensive just to discredit BLM.

If he believes in helping the poor he could put his own net worth where his mouth is.

Why does he feel the need to live like the 1% he criticizes so much?

His wife, who has worked for years and years, bought this house. He said that prices are so astronomical in Brooklyn (where they were looking) that they had to buy somewhere else. I don't blame them. And yes, 800,000 in NJ is NOT "lavish" 🙄 They have four kids. It's enough.

King's house is 3000 sq ft and that is a substantial home for middle class families. There were plenty of homes in that area of a good size for a family their size selling for $400-500k.
Stop excusing this fraud. How did he get this mortgage unless he had a huge down payment in cash?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 2, 2021 7:12 PM |
R69 him and his wife probably earned it. He’s famous. She also works. They need what, 15-20% for mortgage? (Based on quick Google but feel free to correct if I’m wrong) which comes to $120-$160k? Not beyond the realm of credibility for someone with his name recognition in the slightest.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 2, 2021 7:49 PM |
Yes R70 it would be great if you would read previous posts. As I pointed out, Mrs. Rai King works as an activist and sells Tshirts and sweatshirts for a non profit. No way she has ever made enough money to afford a $800,000 house. I am a doctor and could not afford that.
The art of the grift. A white man leaching off of blacks, "same as it ever was".

by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 2, 2021 8:53 PM |
Please. Teachers do not save that kind of money on cash when they have large families. They use every penny to live. Before this house they lived in Brooklyn which they claim was too expensive for them. So savings? I doubt that.
If they currently do not have sufficient income (e.g. she no longer teaches, he does what kind of steady reliable income) from dependable sources then a bank wants more down payment and higher interest - as in more cash. It doesn't matter what job she had before.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 2, 2021 11:49 PM |
R77 he wrote a book, has contributed to a bunch of publications - he’s does speaking events that he gets paid to do, saving $120k over 20years of adult life for a down payment isn’t hard when you’re famous. Why are you all so fixated on this lol. He’s 41 now, if he saved $100 / week since he turned 18 he’d manage it. That’s not that much lol.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 3, 2021 12:35 AM |
He hasn't been famous or making that kind of money for 20 years. What drugs are you on?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 3, 2021 12:41 AM |
He’s been doing it for a few years - long enough to scrape the down payment together. Jesus you losers will not give it up. It doesn’t take long for someone earning over $100k to get a down payment of $120k together - it’s fairly basic maths. You could do it in no time.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 3, 2021 12:46 AM |
You do not make $100K a year or you'd know how that is not as much as you think it is. And with 5 kids? Please. What do you think he banks all his earnings? LOL
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 3, 2021 12:52 AM |
Ok here’s some numbers. In 2017 he was charging $21000 for a speaking event. From Shaun’s own site he lists 86 different locations at where he’s made speeches - it doesn’t specify if he’s left any out or if any would have been repeat performances.
Let’s say he keeps 60% of his fee. And let’s say that he’s charged $21k for each one. That’s a minimum of $1.08m in speaking fees. Before tax sure, but also I see Facebook and Spotify on that list and let’s not pretend like 1) he didn’t get more than this figure from them or 2) his speaking fee hasn’t gone up since 2017. This also is discounting there being any places he hasn’t mentioned and some of them being repeats. It also does not include his earnings from his book, his writing or any other forms of income.
Now we can keep going round and round on this or you losers can just deal with the fact that someone like him makes more than you do lol.
“ activist Shaun King ($21,000) for the same amount of time.”

R83 I don’t necessarily care about whether he’s above board or not but I think people unwilling to accept that he could earn enough to get a mortgage on an $800k home in NJ are the ones who are ‘fucking PRESSED’ as you put it lol. You gals seem really invested in this - I wonder why (I don’t it’s fairly obvious)?
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 3, 2021 1:09 AM |
Jesus -- the fact that any black person has a roof over his head has the racists on Datalounge shitting blood. He and his wife would need a joint income of about $200,000 to afford the mortgage on this house. Hardly one-percenters. And if the house was truly lavish, it wouldn't be three minutes from Costco (per the Zillow listing). The issue here really isn't whether Shaun King is a fraud or not but the fact that you losers take the Rupert Murdoch/NewsCorp bait every time. Pathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 3, 2021 1:32 AM |
There are way too many agendas in this thread and I can't follow it. That house is upper middle class for New Jersey but NOT in the %. If this couple has five children, they may have gotten some decent stimulus money in the past year. If they make too much for the stimulus money, then they make enough for this house.

by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 3, 2021 1:57 AM |
R82, LOL did you see his tax returns. No, I didn't think so. So you have no idea what he makes.
That man lies about everything. Why do you believe he ever got those fees? Just cause he lists that amount doesn't mean he gets it. Or that he even gets paid for all his speeches. He's promoting himself as a sought after successful speaker. it's a shtick.
Some of you are so gullible. This guy is a fraud. Banks want people who have good steady jobs or are cash rich. Neither of which this couple seem to be unless King has been bamboozling people. Guarantee he has done something shady to get this house. And then put it in his wife's name probably for some nefarious purpose.
Oh, and he's not black.
