Still alive?

It's been 40 years since Sid Fairgate drove off that cliff. I'm still shook.

Hot angry daddy from Endless Love.
Zeffirelli should've included a hatefuck scene with Martin Hewitt, whose ass received such loving cinematography.

R3 That sounds like the porn version, and I’m all for it!

Young Don was nice to look at, but he was a bland, boring actor.

What happened to DL displaying online photos?
I only see one at r3. Everything else is a link.

He was stupid to leave Knots Landing, but he didn't enjoy being part of an ensemble.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 31, 2021 6:31 PM |
I can't believe he ended up outliving Kevin Dobson.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2021 6:36 PM |
Hard to believe that all the original cast members of Knots, from 42 years ago, are all still alive, except for Steve Shaw who died in a car accident.

He gave good performances as The Hoodlum Priest (1961) in A Hatful of Rain (1957) and Advise and Consent (1962) playing a man who's homosexual leanings threaten his political career.

He was married to Hope Lange. They were a very good looking Hollywood couple.

Whatever became of Knots Landing Motors?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 31, 2021 6:46 PM |
I think Michele Lee was happy when he left. He made her look older than the other women. With him gone, she seemed more like a contemporary of Val's and Laura's, rather than their mother.

Remember Sid's (grown) daughter, Annie, from season one? She appeared on ONE episode. She was never on the show again, never spoken of again, did not attend Sid's funeral, never wanted to visit her half-siblings or Aunt Abby, etc. That always bothered me when I was a tween. LOL.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 31, 2021 6:59 PM |
I'm a knots nerd, so I know that she was mentioned again in two additional season 1 episodes: the one where Sid's ex, played by Claudette Nevins, visits, and the one where Charlene Tilton guest stars.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 31, 2021 7:01 PM |
Why the fuck isn’t Knots Landing streaming?
We could all be racing to the Charlene Tilton episode right now to verify r16’s claims.
Also, why is Charlene Tilton wearing a Renaissance Fair maiden frock for a walk on the beach with Valene? Is this how denizens of Dallas think Californians dress?

Was his son Chris gay? I seem to remember a friend of mine (RIP) who lived in NYC knowing him casually and saying he thought he was gay.

Murray did a good enough job on Knots Landing as Sid, but Dobson's Mack was much more complex and dynamic and was perfect for the direction the show took after that.
I believe Murray once said he never expected the show would last as long as it did but if he did know he would've struck around.

Knots Landing and Falcon Crest are mostly unavailable. Gone, baby, gone. A couple of seasons of each show were released on DVD over a decade ago...then no more seasons on DVD. I'm fortunate to have purchased seasons one and two of both shows when first released (now used copies are very expensive on ebay). Some online sellers sell bootleg complete series of both shows (they probably recorded the shows when they were on SoapNet years ago). WHATEVER.

Knots was the absolute best of the nighttime soaps although I did not appreciate it until the 90s in reruns. I’ll never forget Jill and Gary (very Leave it to Heaven) and the storyline with Gary & Valene’s twin babies. Even the very early years were great with JR such a menace and Lucy trying to give it a chance in boring old Knots and early Abby.

I think Falcon Crest is on Amazon Prime. That one's totally new on me after the first two seasons, and I think they have 3 and 4 available, too. I could be wrong.
I kept my Knots Landing tapes and am glad that I did. During lockdown, I had a blast rewatching them on the kitchen TV/VCR combo.
Mack was a good character for bringing in action and underworld intrigue. An Edge of Night vibe, as it were.
Lilimae Clements, ride or die.

Yes, Donny boy was a hottie with a nice fuzzy chest and appears in the Tab Hunter documentary. I've also seen him in interviews express regret for leaving Knots thinking that he was on the verge of a big movie career comeback with Endless Love. Sid was too nice and too trusting and must have been boring as hell to play.
As a gayling I remember thinking ooooh, Kenny is the hot one! Then in m 30s in reruns thought Gary was the hot one. And now in my 50s I'd say Sid was the hot one. I expect in 20 years I'll think Red Buttons as Lilimae's boyfriend is the hot one. LOL

Don has got good dentures.

There is channel on youtube that has all of the Knots episodes in good quality, but you have to go to the uploaders playlist to find them. It was done that way to avoid the copyright takedowns which would undoubtable happen if they were listed publically.

R3 I recently watched this for the first time and loved it, amazing how a b movie from the early 80s comes off as a classic compared to the average release today. Casting was a disaster but enjoyably messy.
A few things I learned: no one wanted Brooke Shields except of course Zeffirelli who was enamored of her Renaissance-era level beauty and felt it could plausibly inspire obsessive love…therefore missing the point of the book: that teenagers have obsessive love regardless of looks.
Shirley Knight wanted Jodie Foster - nooooo — or Jennifer Jason Leigh — maybe. She felt the movie was doomed with Brooke.
Zeffireli had to ‘surprise pinch’ Brooke’s toe during her lovemaking scenes to simulate an orgasm tremor.
Don Murray seemed to work hard to convince us he was the kind of 1970s Dad who partied with 100 teenagers in his house every Saturday.
Martin Hewitt was fine.
James Spader begins perfecting his “arrogant cunt” role.
Ian Ziering in tiny role, looking almost youthful, unlike 90210 years later.
Tom Cruise before anyone knew and hated him in a pivotal tiny role looking good (unlike the future) with his shirt off.
Beatrice Straight seems like she stepped in from “Network,” Richard Kiley is great.
A lot of then local Chicago actors as party-scene extras including Clancy Brown.
Truly foreboding cinematography prior to the fire.
Great use of music especially “Heart of Glass.”
Truly bad tragic over the top shit happens in this movie. That car accident on Sixth Avenue in NYC was an epic shot.

^ I wish I could be a working actor typecast as “arrogant cunt.”

It must have taken a lot of guts for Don to play the role he did in "Advise and Consent". I believe that was the first time a gay bar was ever shown in a movie.

Inga Swenson and Betty White were both in Advise and Consent.

Which helps explain the homosexuality of Don Murray's character.

Swenso gave Rose all her Saint Olaf stories.
