Vote, DLers. (and perhaps with some clarification) I'll be working there for three months in May 2022.
Ocean city Maryland VS Wildwood New Jersey
by Anonymous | reply 112 | August 18, 2021 7:14 PM |
I voted for Wildwood, OP, because the name is prettier.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 30, 2021 1:47 PM |
Been to Wildwood often. WW is mid-century American fun! Boardwalks, motels... very low key. It has 2 problems... proms/kids partying too hard and a lot of trumpsters.
I haven't been to OC, MD.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 30, 2021 1:49 PM |
good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to WILDWOOD
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 30, 2021 2:08 PM |
OC, MD by far. There's a bit less white trash to boot.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 30, 2021 2:18 PM |
Ocean City is the younger trashier counterpart to Rehoboth. It gets the Baltimore/DC crowd. Wildwood gets the Philly area. Ocean City is further from anything than Wildwood. Neither is paradise, but both are unpretentious. The pizza will be better in Wildwood.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 30, 2021 2:18 PM |
Maryland is closer to DC than New Jersey though.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 30, 2021 2:22 PM |
Ocean City to DC---long, boring drive. And summer in DC makes summer in NYC (or even Philly) seem pleasant by comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 30, 2021 2:28 PM |
Further information: that will be my first time in USA. I planned to work for three months and another month for traveling and sightseeing.
The point is, as a broadway theatre enthusiast, I'd certainly like to go to NYC. Having a job at Wildwood is definitely much easier to go there on dayoff.
But then again, I could focus solely on making money, NYC can wait until the last month. Ugh, Indecisiveness is no shit.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 30, 2021 2:51 PM |
If you’re hoping to travel to NYC, choose Wildwood. Ocean City is so far removed from everything…I visited from DC and it took a couple of hours (and was not worth the trip).
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 30, 2021 2:55 PM |
OP, NYC is almost 3 hours from Wildwood, NJ. Not exactly day trip friendly.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 30, 2021 2:56 PM |
Well, Wildwood is 2-3 hrs from NYC vs Ocean City, which is 4-5 hrs away.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 30, 2021 3:07 PM |
Are you going to work at the amusement park there, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 30, 2021 3:08 PM |
Wildwood is located a few minutes from Cape May, so it also has that going for it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 30, 2021 3:12 PM |
If you like hordes of overweight white trash Eastern Shore Trumpanzees packed into the beaches eating giant tubs of fries and greasy pizza, Ocean City is the place for you!
I would recommend some of the quieter beach towns between OC and Rehoboth like Dewey Beach or a camping trip on Assateague or Chincoteague Islands. Of course, I haven't been to those areas in over a decade so they could now be overrun with idiots too. Or if you MUST go to Ocean City, wait until September when the kids are back in school.
I've never been to Wildwood but Atlantic City is fun in a trashy way!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 30, 2021 3:25 PM |
Lots of uncut guys on B1 visas in OC. Not sure if it's the same for Wildwood.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 30, 2021 3:39 PM |
Yes!!!! What about the guys there, tell me! That's definitely taken into account!!! R12, I have no idea. I'll prolly take the most highest paying jobs like servers or bussers.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 30, 2021 4:06 PM |
OP! you are a whore. A young one apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 30, 2021 4:14 PM |
Oooshin Ciddy's racist cops have been a lot of attention lately.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 30, 2021 4:15 PM |
They're both garbage. Wildwood is more entertaining garbage, and it's closer to NYC, though it's still more of an overnight trip from there.
OTOH, if you just want to be a whore, OC is closer to Rehoboth.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 30, 2021 4:26 PM |
People! OP is a non-American coming to the US to work for a summer...he's not a tourist.
I used to live in DC and it was common for Croatians and Slovokians to work as lifeguards at beaches and apartment complex pools for the summer. They travel and have fun in their free time, but they're also not making a lot of money.
Some of you are offering good ideas for other beaches to consider, but the organization he's working through likely partners with a set list of beaches and apartment complexes.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 30, 2021 4:34 PM |
Ocean City is the preferred beach for residents of Mortville.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 30, 2021 4:40 PM |
Both trashy and boring places. Working there? Doing what? Low wage job?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 30, 2021 4:42 PM |
Definitely Wildwood.
Ocean City is very isolated from civilization. 3 hrs to DC/Baltimore.
Wildwood NJ is only 1.5 hrs to Philly. Much easier to do trips to civilization.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 30, 2021 4:49 PM |
Wildwood probably has public transportation links. Ocean City might have them on the weekend, at best.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 30, 2021 4:53 PM |
Wildwood is probably closer to the places you want to visit. However, Rehoboth Beach is close to Ocean City, MD and it is a gay Mecca.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 30, 2021 4:54 PM |
^Rehoboth is a gay mecca
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 30, 2021 4:55 PM |
Rehoboth is a large middle brow resort that has a small gay component. I wouldn't call it a mecca and there isn't regular transportation between it and Ocean City and he doesn't have the option of working there. Remember, OP will be a foreign worker on a budget---no expensive rental cars, probably hanging out mostly with people from his country who are part of the same program.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 30, 2021 4:59 PM |
What's with the "Ocean city" shit, repeated, OP?
Oh, dear.
And the correct answer is Varenna, Italy.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 30, 2021 5:15 PM |
Rehoboth is a beach town, not a resort. Name another Mid-Atlantic beach town that attracts as many gays as Rehoboth..
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 30, 2021 5:26 PM |
OP, look farther north in NJ: Lavalette, Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant, Asbury Park. Transportation to NYC is much easier than from Wildwood.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 30, 2021 5:34 PM |
Where are the cruising places in Wildwood NJ to pick up some drunken Philly guys or Yummy Latino mens?? Seriously, does Wildwood have any areas like that? They did in the late 1980's-early 1990's. I don't know if any exists now!! South Jersey DL'ers Help Phillywhore out!!!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 30, 2021 5:35 PM |
[quote]Name another Mid-Atlantic beach town that attracts as many gays as Rehoboth.
Asbury Park
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 30, 2021 6:22 PM |
Lewes, DE used to have some gay action.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 30, 2021 7:02 PM |
Wildwood, really? I always thought it was just trashy white people from Philly. A case study in how ugly a shore town can be. Ocean City and seems more family focused and more VA and DC - which to me is slightly more presentable, if conservative.
Rehoboth has always confused me. I had heard so much about it being a gay resort - but it was a trashy mid-Atlantic shore town with a few gays interspersed with typical middle class white suburban families from the mid-Atlantic. Have tried going back a few times - but just don’t get how it’s such a popular gay destination yet seemingly not gay. Where do all the DC gays go for the weekend? Or do they just in the city?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 30, 2021 8:43 PM |
Rehoboth is really 2 beach towns--Bethany is the fancier, smaller ones. Many of the gays are eldergays who have retired there or have condos there where they plan to retire. It's a pretty low key gay scene.
Reminder: OP has 2 choices--Ocean City or Wildwood. No other alternatives exist for him.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 30, 2021 9:20 PM |
My family used to go to Wildwood when we were young, so I'm not so sure about Ocean City being more family focused than Wildwood.
In one of the things I remember is how a number of old people, women and their kids would bike ride on the boardwalk in the morning before any of the rides would open up.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 31, 2021 2:02 AM |
Wildwood NJ a million times. Neither place is exactly the Hamptons but Wildwood has (1) better restaurants (2) proximity to lovely Cape may and it's gorgeous Victorian Homes (3) nicer beaches and overall a bit more to do. Wildwood has a bunch of retro style motels built in the mid century. Ocean city is kind of a plain looking depressing dump with proximity to nothing. The restaurants are mostly smelly crab joints. It's also crawling with Marylanders , who are mostly horrible and unpleasant people who stink up the place with their bad vibes.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 31, 2021 2:50 AM |
Ocean Shitty.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 31, 2021 2:51 AM |
Wildwood has lots of fun, retro motels from the 50s and 60s
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 31, 2021 2:53 AM |
I can see why you're being reluctant, OP. These two places are quite similar in terms of locating near a beach, with a boardwalk, an amusement park and a lot of restaurant and ice-cream shop.
But I'd say Ocean City! If you aim for working nonstop, there're more potential tourists there.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 31, 2021 3:20 AM |
The DC gays who have vacation homes in Rehoboth, Bethany, Lewes are mostly doctors, lawyers or other high-salaried professionals and yes, it is a low-key scene. The Bidens have a home in Rehoboth. It’s not a raving party scene - it’s a place where people go to relax and enjoy the beach.
Some DC gays go to the Outer Banks but that is definitely a multi-generational family scene.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 31, 2021 3:22 AM |
Go wherever has the best housing and transportation options.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 31, 2021 3:28 AM |
I was in Ocean City last year and we found some really good restaurants. To me it comes across as cleaner, safer and with all the development on the bay side in the past ten years a little more upscale and a better kind of people. OP you're probably better off just staying in your beach town and get that full on experience partying, drinking and getting some action. The few days you'll have off you'll just want to chill around there. Then go to NYC with the money you've earned. Go to the townhouse. You can get free lodging.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 31, 2021 3:30 AM |
OP, there are only two options? What program is this? It is pretty lame.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 31, 2021 7:49 AM |
R40 - those tight shots in the link don't emphasize enough how truly over-the-top retro those Wildwood hotels are . . .
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 31, 2021 1:01 PM |
Omg, R46, I stayed at that motel when I was a little kid (probably before 10 years old- my family stopped going to wildwood around that time) and haven’t thought about it in about 25 years! Thanks for triggering some good memories!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 31, 2021 2:42 PM |
R20 R28 R36 Guys! I'm not sure these posters are the same person, but hell, it sounds like you're pretty familiar with this kind of program and that incredibly surprises me!
Yes, I will be probably hanging out with people from my country. The housing will be provided by the agency I signed up with.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 31, 2021 3:52 PM |
R41 Yes! That's exactly why I was so hesitant.
R29 Oh, pardon me, my beloved Oh Dear troll!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 31, 2021 3:54 PM |
R45 Well, actually, no. This program offers an opportunity to work at almost every US state. I can opt for North Carolina, Texas, DC, Alaska, or even Hawaii.
However, I'm inclined towards a beach city because the weather is more similar to that of my country, and, apparently, dem BOYS in shorts.
Thus, the choices are narrowed down to these two!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 31, 2021 3:59 PM |
Rohoboth used to be one of the choices, though, because of the free taxes.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 31, 2021 4:01 PM |
r20 tell me more about these sexy young Europeans they ship over to sit next to pools. I love me some Croatians. Tell momma where the buffet is at?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 31, 2021 4:15 PM |
r32 cruising places? All of that is online (Grindr, Tinder, Doubleslist) all of those will be the skanky married guys that haven't fucked their wives in months and probably have an unannounced STD from te scummy dudes they pick up back home. Sadly, the days of getting the hot guys on vacation are dying out. Craigslist was the last gasp.
But if OP has skills and his own place then a hotel bar is still a good option to cruise for cock. But it's a long game that may require a lot of sports talk.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 31, 2021 4:18 PM |
r50, you could go to Hawaii but choose to stay in New Jersey or Maryland? I have to remember that my destination choices may seem crazy to locals when I travel as well.
I'd pick Hawaii because it's so damn far from your home that you may never get a chance to visit, where as going to the US east coast is a lot more obtainable given the number of European flights that fly into east coast cities.
There is a ton of things to do in Hawaii and the people are amazing. You'll get TONS of cock from all the vacationers AND the marines/navy stationed there, depending on the island. If it's not too late, please consider Hawaii, I guarantee you wont regret it. Prices aren't outrageous despite it's isolated location.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 31, 2021 4:27 PM |
R32 What about Philly? Please tell me where could I get cocks?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 1, 2021 3:37 AM |
R54 Thanks! I'll definitely take that into account.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 1, 2021 2:05 PM |
If you are going to be looking for dick in Philly, Club Philly is a gay bathhouse and the Bike Shop is a cruisy bar.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 1, 2021 4:35 PM |
I'd say Wildwood, but eh, it is full of white trash bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 2, 2021 3:46 AM |
Seriously? Wildwood is kind of a no-no for me.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 2, 2021 1:47 PM |
Have you ever met an eastern shore redneck? Good lord.. Their accent is horrific. The only places that they care to go are Disney World or Ocean City.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 2, 2021 2:03 PM |
Wildwood, all the way
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 4, 2021 2:11 PM |
Ocean City is far too redneck.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 4, 2021 2:25 PM |
OP, see if you can’t get something in the Hamptons. It’s still a hike to NYC, but it’s a well-worn path and the tips will be better.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 4, 2021 2:43 PM |
One thing about Wildwood is that it tends to be pretty empty during the off-season. I wouldn’t say ‘ghost town’ but it is very quiet. Some may find that nice. Personally, I love to take a drive down in November and walk around and not encounter another soul.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 4, 2021 3:03 PM |
If I had to bet I would bet that the average income of the people visiting OC is significantly higher than that of Wildwood.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 4, 2021 4:10 PM |
Wildwood.
I don’t know what either of them are.
But Wildwood
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 4, 2021 4:35 PM |
They both suck, sorry
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 4, 2021 4:40 PM |
R65 Really? I always have this idea that high-income New Yorkers tend to take an one-day trip to Wildwood more, since it is nearer.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 4, 2021 5:04 PM |
Ooshin Ciddy is redneck AND ghetto! Hence the policing issues that have roiled the town lately.

Fuck you
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 4, 2021 6:20 PM |
[quote] Rehoboth is really 2 beach towns--Bethany is the fancier, smaller ones.
No.
They are about 20-30 minutes away from each other, about 45 minutes if there's traffic.
My grandparents had a house in Bethany and my parents still own it. It's a more low-key town, very very family oriented, but they are not all that close geographically.
There are very nice parts of Rehoboth and more middle class parts.
Ditto Bethany
But that whole area is far more low key than the Hamptons or the Jersey Shore-- less developed, quieter.
Ocean City has some fairly expensive condos in the northern part, some trashy areas in the southern part, but always reminded me of a seasons Miami Beach or something--it's not all that pretty, just lots of ugly high rises along the ocean.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | August 4, 2021 6:24 PM |
^^summer-season Miami Beach--
by Anonymous | reply 72 | August 4, 2021 6:25 PM |
No r68.
With New Jersey you are either in New York sphere or Philly sphere. Wildwood is South Jersey, it's people from Philly that go there not people from New York. There are many closer Jersey Shore locations for NYers.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 4, 2021 7:06 PM |
Actually, there are quite a number of NYers in Wildwood every summer. Also, a shit ton of French Canadians in July.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 4, 2021 7:41 PM |
When you go to either, you understand how so much of America is filled with white trash. I vote for OC, MD
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 4, 2021 8:51 PM |
R68 - But the NYers (and obviously Canadians) who go to Wildwood stay for several days.
Also, my experience of knowing people who go to Wildwood is that most of them also go to Cape May once or twice when they're down there because it's a 5 minute drive away.
Similarly, I know people who've stayed in Cape May who will drive up one or two nights to the Wildwood boardwalk.
To me, Wildwood and Cape May are the yin and yang of NJ.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 4, 2021 9:00 PM |
My grandparents had a rental down in Wildwood in the 60s and 70s. They liked it because it was a dry town or something. No liquor sold on Sundays or something.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 4, 2021 9:03 PM |
[quote] it's people from Philly that go there not people from New York
That could be dangerous for a New Yorker. Phillyites have such tiny penises they immediately assume the kangaroo boxing position if they see a solitary male New Yorker. Of course, if it’s more than one male New Yorker they simple mutter “asshole” under their breath, just loud enough for their wives to hear them.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 4, 2021 9:09 PM |
I’ll have to try Cape May & Wildwood. In my younger days I used to rent a 2 BR condo on the water in Montauk when it was a family-oriented resort town. We’d walk & ride bikes everywhere. In fact, a lot of NJ plates in Montauk every summer back then. It’s a totally different place now. Gentrified. Cool famous people used to live there to be low key, close enough to the Hamptons for friends to visit but far enough away. Now it’s all frat brahs and wannabes pissing on people’s lawns. The locals’ cozy houses are torn down for hotel-sized private homes. They’re knocking down the old resorts & putting up luxury crap.
You’re old when you’ll know you’ll never see or experienced anything like that again.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 4, 2021 10:30 PM |
OP, tell us the kind of guys you'd like to be fucking with. If you go for some trashy white teenage scum—Wildwood.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 5, 2021 3:02 AM |
Wildwood is full of quebecois dick in the summer.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 5, 2021 3:03 AM |
Montauk used to be too, R81, until it became a den of smarmy, status oriented “what school did you go to” scions of wealth
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 5, 2021 3:35 AM |
The boardwalks in Wildwood and Ocean City are fairly close in terms of their length and both have tram cars. I don't know if Ocean City has the "Watch the Tram Car Please" announcements though.
Wildwood isn't just Wildwood, it's The Wildwoods. Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, West Wildwood and North Wildwood. I found it to be a lot of fun and driving past the doo wop motels was interesting. Plus as others have mentioned Cape May with it's Victorian houses is right next door and also has a lovely beach(and "Cape May Diamonds", which are pure quartz pebbles that wash up on the beach). It is closer to NYC and while it would be a big trip to do in a day, it would be doable as an overnight thing and if you wanted to go to Philly(I know, I know but they do have some pretty good museums) that's not too far away.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 5, 2021 4:25 AM |

Through my extended circle of acquaintances (not friends, but I know of them), the ones that go to Wildwood are pretty much all Trumpers. One in particular likes to take his Dump flags and custom tent to the beach with him. Its why I haven’t gone there in many, many years.

Never been to Wildwood OP but Ocean City is not great. I grew up in DC and always found Ocean City a bitch to get to and once you're there it's extremely underwhelming (to put it kindly). Can you opt for Rehoboth or Bethany Beach?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 6, 2021 1:42 PM |
Rohoboth is no better from my own experience

Last time I was in Ocean City I was surprised at the lower end of the peninsula area. It seems like they demolished most all of the old school small kind of run down motels and inns and replaced them with bigger newer hotels.

If you grew up in Maryland or thereabouts, Ocean City is fun for an afternoon for nostalgia purposes (I'm a child of the 70's and we'd go there in the summer)--strolling down the boardwalk, gawking at the eastern shore hicks, buying cheap geegaws or t-shirts, and gorging yourself on funnel cakes, fries, greasy pizza, or Thrasher's french fries. Other than that, I'd avoid it like the plague.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 7, 2021 3:05 AM |
Can’t OP get himself to Cape Cod or another summer beach town in the Northeast or New England? All the restaurants and inns higher summer help from overseas, under normal, non-Covid conditions.

Ocean City has a seafood place called Big Pecker’s. Seriously. Great crab cakes though.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | August 8, 2021 11:32 PM |
I don't know what it is, but Ocean City is where most of the trash from my home state like to go. Rehoboth (not far from O.C., but nonetheless)? Great. Virginia Beach? Fine. Even Myrtle isn't as bad. But Ocean City? Hell no. I'd rather spend time around Chesapeake Bay (which I did, growing up).
I've been through New Jersey, but I've never been to Wildwood.
