Big for a moment in the late '90s, then nothing. What gave?
Darren was busy letting you know something significant about himself.

I remember the video for "I Want You" was on VH1 constantly but the lyrics never made sense to me, like somebody coming down from an amphetamines binge. "Truly Madly Deeply" was syrupy and maudlin. Then they were gone.

I Want You is a rip off of "Life Is A Rock"
Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones never got along at all. The group was effectively split up after one album but Darren begged Daniel to do another. "Affirmation," (which is a great album) was done by the two via, emails, couriers and such and at times the two were not even on the same continent.
Darren is known as a whore and a total diva . Darren has a lot of talent and his first two solo albums are great but he was a "professional victim" long before it became trendy. His talent is ruined by his massive ego and when you read or hear interviews he blames everyone and everything for his failures in life.

Swear down we have a thread on this every year, and it always says the same things. Is Darren OP, posting just to drum up nostalgia and drive up Spotify listens?

They hated each other.

They were big and then they broke up. What's the big mystery, OP?

I liked "The Animal Song"

I think it was a mistake for Darren to go solo. No one knew his name and while they were big, it was in a way that the band Train is - like they are big but no one knows anyone's name in that band. He should have done like the lead singer from Tears for Fears did and kept the band name, and just kept going solo. Eventually the other guy came back (they all do when the money's gone).
Plenty of people who hate each other's guts can make it work. My parents have been doing it for more than 40 years.

I always thought "I Want You" was a rip-off off Roxette's "Joyride".

“I knew i loved you”sounded like a ripoff of another song as well.

At one time, it seemed like their song Affirmation was being played 24/7

God that's terrible, R16. It sounds like an 80s-90s sitcom theme or a fake band in a troubled teen Lifetime movie, right down to the band name, ugh.
I was in my late teens when they were big (briefly, as I recall) but I was going through a Frank Black phase at the time and fortunately missed most of this and Hanson's radio drivel.

Lyrics to the song in R16.
Oh, dear.
"I believe the sun should never set upon an argument I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality I believe that trust is more important than monogamy I believe that your most attractive features are your heart and soul I believe that family is worth more than money or gold I believe the struggle for financial freedom isn't fair I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists I believe in love surviving death into eternity I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye."

I'll tell you what I didn't give - Daniel Jones a blowjob. I was in love with him, which freaked him out, then we were over.

I also hated the black leather blazer and black turtle neck combo Darren wore in the Truly, Madly Deeply video. That look was everywhere for a year or two.
