He was very loyal to his Hills Angels and a job on the show meant a paycheque for life. None of the girls have anything bad to say about him and Sue Upton became his "adopted" daughter and he'd visit her and her family a couple weeks a year and take care of her family as if they were his blood relations. His penny pinching and frugality with himself belied how generous he was with employees and friends, paying many people years after they had retired and left the show. He wrote it into his contract that his shows were run in perpetuity so everyone on the show including the crew would continue to receive residual payments.

I'm an American and I miss late night Benny Hill on the channels over 20 in the 70s. If only for the music which should be a cut in my life's soundtrack. I can't tell you how many weird instances I wished had the madcap zany tah, tah, tah, duh, duh, da, da da playing in the background.

I think this is truly the only celebrity who I was shocked to discover was gay.

But then, I grew up in the U.S. and hadn't a clue about him outside the show.

Benny Hill was about as funny as Wayland Flowers, not Madam, but Wayland.
