What do they "do" that is so much more important than the rest of us?
What contribution do they make to society, that makes their lives and livelihood so much more "valuable" than the rest of us?
I really don't see it.
I don't believe it, either.

They do absolutely nothing of value.
They're whores for a system that makes millions of dollars for film and studio executives.
And their reward is that they also get millions of dollars.
They're all dirty whores.

OP, if a film makes $1B why shouldn’t the lead actors be compensated, esp. if they’re part of the draw and/or attract initial audiences? What dumb people like you don’t realise is that the money that actors earn would just go to the billionaires otherwise. Why shouldn’t actors get a slice of that? It’s not like it would go to charity otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 26, 2021 6:24 PM |
What do mean by “I don’t believe it”? Are you claiming that these actors don’t make millions? It’s a conspiracy?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 26, 2021 6:32 PM |
I wrote this in a different thread recently. It's because they can pool in the most attention of consumers. There is no mass fanfare dying to attend a teacher's class or a surgeon's appointment but you bet, there are thousands of people wanting to attend a sports match or watch a movie or attend a concert or buy a merchandise, etc. Add Sponsorships and Brand Ambassadorships to that and it's even more money.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 26, 2021 6:40 PM |
I can't wait until Hollywood collapses.
These over paid assholes will just DIE.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 26, 2021 6:41 PM |
Performers earn huge paychecks because they make other people even greater amounts money. Not too hard to figure out.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 26, 2021 6:47 PM |
If millions of people will pay to watch you, you will become rich.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 26, 2021 6:51 PM |
Sorry R2 R6 and R7, but there is something FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG with a system where first responders, teachers, and front line Covid workers get paid barely or less than a living wage.
While actors and athletes make millions, buy mansions, go on luxury vacations, and enjoy unlimited entitlements.
FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG with the way this world works.

Capitalism
Consumerism
It’s the air we breathe.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 26, 2021 6:58 PM |
R5 is on a showbiz gossip board but wants Hollywood to collapse weird.
By the way, 99% of actors don't even make a living at acting. They have day jobs. Only a tiny percent of actors are making millions
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 26, 2021 7:01 PM |
R8, that’s a dumb comparison. Why take the inequities of the world out on actors - whom, regardless of what you think, work hard for the money. Money that has to last them a lifetime in an industry where they’d be lucky to work steadily for 10 years, if that. Actors are not the problem. You’re obviously mentally unbalanced, stupid or both.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 26, 2021 7:05 PM |
Oh boo hoo, R11.
Poor, millionaire actors and athletes.
I feel soooooooooooooo sorry for them.
Yeah, right. Cry me a fucking RIVER.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 26, 2021 7:14 PM |
Actors and athletes entertain. If you don't like them, don't watch. While Republicans in power positions do nothing but TROLL and make large paychecks, get golden parachutes, get huge under the table payouts (just ask Mitch McConnell and his whorewife) and make policy we are all FORCED to live with. What was that about ACTORS again?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 26, 2021 7:41 PM |
The vast majority of actors are NOT millionaires
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 26, 2021 7:42 PM |
OP must be an angry failed actor.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 26, 2021 7:54 PM |
Generous salaries is the reward for making it to the top of your profession.
This is really a stupid topic. Actors put in work and actually earn their salaries. It's manual labor being an actor, versus people like the Kardashians who just put their name on a bunch of cheap shit and sell it and collect hundreds of millions of dollars per year, through exploitation of the workers who actually do the heavy lifting.
Same could be said for Jeff Bezos and Amazon etc.
Actors have to really put in physical labor through performance to earn those huge salaries.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 26, 2021 8:00 PM |
As had been said before, actors (and I imagine athletes) do not make that much money. Only those at the top do. Just like the top teachers can make a fortune at an private school and health care workers can make a lot working for the very rich.

by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 26, 2021 8:13 PM |
They get paid millions even for flops.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 26, 2021 8:21 PM |
OP some actors aren't as rich as you think they are. Their managers, agents, and lawyers usually get a percentage of their paychecks. It can be argued that their wealth supports other people as well.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 26, 2021 9:16 PM |
Bill O'Reilly was making $25 million a year to sit his nasty fat racist ass in a chair every night at a desk looking into a camera to lie to his dumbass racist viewers.
But no one has a problem with that.
At least Meryl Streep is talented and earns her multi million dollar salaries, along with so many others in film and television who are actually talented and deserving of their money because of their artistry.
Fuck the haters!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 26, 2021 9:20 PM |
Most entertainers today are overpaid, and over rewarded and don't have the talent to back it up.
And they're VULGAR. They lack manners and class. Just watch them on TV. Disgusting.
Potty mouth and raunchy are not attractive. What happened to gentleman and ladies?
You can have your FILTH.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 26, 2021 9:22 PM |
Hmm for athletes their team’s owners make much more money even though the athletes are the ones doing all the work.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 26, 2021 9:24 PM |
I'm talking about truly talented genuine actors.
Not "celebrities" but real true genuine actors who do carry themselves with class and grace.
It's an exclusive club of them.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 26, 2021 9:25 PM |
They may get big salaries but they also have big outlays: agents, publicists, assistants, hangers-on, lawyers, accountants. They're cottage industries. They also have short spans to earn Big Bucks. Very, very few stay on top more than a couple of years.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 26, 2021 9:27 PM |
Don't hate because I'm beautiful. Hate me because I'm rich.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 26, 2021 9:27 PM |
Meryl Streep is definitely the exception. She's been on top for decades and show no signs of leaving any time soon.
But she's also very focused. Meryl carrys herself the way film stars are supposed to. She's never fame whoring or looking for attention. You see it hear anything from her until she has a film or limited series coming out and that's how it's supposed to be. Actors are actors not celebrities.
Jennifer Lopez is a celebrity, she loves the spotlight and loves being photographed etc. You don't see serious actors who are truly in the business for the right reasons plastered all over the internet or the tabloids. They know to keep a low profile so it doesn't effect the work they do on the screen, so audiences see the characters they're portraying on film and not a celebrity instead.
Actors should only been seen on film award shows film premieres press junkets promotional interviews and various film and television industry conventions etc. To promote their work, like comic con and things along that line. But they should never go the Paris Hilton Kim Kardashian route. Because then they start to become celebrities and actors are not supposed to be celebrities if they want to be taken seriously as an actor.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 26, 2021 9:38 PM |
R27: While Streep is one of the very few genuinely talented and smart actors in Hollywood, she has done things for the money over the last 15 years or so. I agree though that she doesn't whore herself out in front of the cameras like JLO or TimoTay.

I love football and think pro athletes deserve every penny that they earn. Most athletes earn next to nothing. The ones you see making all the money have dedicated their life 24/7 to being the best athlete on the planet! Do you know how much money it takes for these athletes to develop into professionals? Most of that cost is paid for by their parents. Most parents and family of pro athletes are taken care of after the athlete makes money.

Serious Actors are Stars not celebrities.
Stars have talent, anyone can be a celebrity but not everyone can be a Star.

Garbage people who create nothing, add nothing to world and collect big money for it. Actors get paid to play dress up and play act. Athletes get paid to play a game. If every millionaire actor and athlete died tomorrow the word would not be worse off.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 26, 2021 10:19 PM |
Do you really think Xander Berkeley and Alison Pil are rolling in the bucks?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 26, 2021 10:35 PM |
Now that college kids can capitalize on it, this will make things even more strange. Bryce Young from Alabama now has a million bucks and hasn't even yet started a football game. And those Fresno soccer girls? Yikes!!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 26, 2021 11:01 PM |
I understand actors who bring people to theaters getting paid a lot. But why do no name athletes make so much? No one had ever heard of Carl Nassib before he came out but he was getting paid $10 million.

Speaking of, didn't actors used to get fruits and vegetables thrown at them, if they sucked?
They sure have come a long way.
Personally, I'd love to return to those days.
As for athletes, the Gladiators used to fight to the death in the Coliseum.
Yes, please!

Chris Pratt is a perfect example of this.
A useless person who makes millions of dollars, and contributes nothing to society except for his homophobic, right-wing religious fundie trash point of view.
Absofuckinglutely USELESS.

I can only think of Alec Guinness and Margaret Leighton — both of whom are dead
