Chucky’s coming for Gen Z and I’m here for it 🔪🩸

Chucky’s back for a whole new generation, the Tik Tok generation, and it looks fire AF. Gone is Mark Hamill and the AI Alexa Chucky robot. Chucky is back to being just a doll and voiced by the original actor. The new Chucky will be a revenge tale a la Carrie.

The reboot stars Brad Dourif (the iconic doll himself), Jennifer Tilly (Tiffany), Fiona Dourif (Nica), Alex Vincent (Andy Barclay), Justin Whalin (Andy Barclay), Catherine Hicks (Karen Barclay), Christine Elise (Kyle), and Devon Sawa.

Devon Sawa moves his son Jake to a new town where he has trouble making friends and is bullied. We see high-schooler Jake picking up the Good Guy doll at a yard sale and taking it home. He soon discovers how powerful Chucky is and uses him as a weapon that he unleashes on his school bullies. As his classmates die one by one, will the detective make the connection that Jake is behind the killings?

I was really up for the role until I found out the film wasn't titled "Chunky".

^ Christopher Meloni?

by Anonymousreply 2July 26, 2021 3:24 PM

How hung is Christopher Meloni to be even considered for this?

by Anonymousreply 3July 26, 2021 11:11 PM

I don’t know—looks meh.

Will Chucky be offing deplorables?

by Anonymousreply 6August 10, 2021 12:03 AM

Well the original screenwriter of Child's Play, Don Mancini, is an out and proud gay man.

He's kind of hot too!

by Anonymousreply 7August 10, 2021 12:08 AM

Last year I binged all the old movies. They are delightful trash, and I was bummed to think there would be no follow-up to the events of Cult of Chucky. I want to see what happens with Nica!

Mark Hamill was great as the new Chucky, but everything else about that movie was meh.

by Anonymousreply 8August 10, 2021 12:09 AM

I think it's impressive that Don has revamped the franchise several times without ever doing a Halloween style "alternate timeline"

by Anonymousreply 9August 10, 2021 12:44 AM

Wasn’t the latest one an alternative timeline?

by Anonymousreply 10August 10, 2021 12:56 AM

Three good signs:

1) Don Mancini has resumed writing and directing duties.

2) It looks like a return to some comedy for the series, though not the full-blown camp of BRIDE and SEED OF CHUCKY, which I loved. It looks like a hybrid of comedy and a slasher taking itself seriously, which would be better than the original films without the "modern tech"-focused gimmickry of the 2019 movie.

3) I love placing the doll in the hands of a teenager struggling with bullying and sexuality rather than a child. This looks to be some more personal and real-world relevance from Don Mancini that just so happens to appeal to the horror demographic better.

by Anonymousreply 11August 10, 2021 12:59 AM

R10 Doesn't count. Different creative team, done against Don's wishes. The Halloween franchise was always in the hands of the Akkad family.

by Anonymousreply 12August 10, 2021 1:00 AM

I just wonder if they can keep this one kid's story going for ten episodes. Maybe there are multiple storylines? Or it could be an anthology show.

by Anonymousreply 13August 10, 2021 1:23 AM

Some hater in the redundant thread is saying that horror fanboys will hate anything gay, male-related.

But the truth is, sympathy for gay characters is a trend in horror right now, with shows like THE BABYSITTER really pandering to gay boys, who have always been big supporters of horror flicks.

There is no Chucky without Brad Dourif

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2021 9:36 PM

I like that former actors from the movies like Justin Whalin (who I haven’t seen in anything in forever) are included.

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2021 9:54 PM

TheQuartering is not cool with a "romance between two teen boys."

He won't be watching "woke" Chucky.

BTW, does anyone know if this is a one-and-done show, or will it be getting more seasons?

How are Justin Whalen and Alex Vincent coming back as the same character?

I always wondered why Catherine Hicks never returned for the sequels. Was she just not interested? I think her husband worked on the original movies.

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2021 10:08 PM

Would be very fun to see Catherine Hicks and Chris Sarandon return, preferably not just cameos.

Alex Vincent played adult Andy so I would guess Justin Whalin is playing a different character. But anything can happen in this franchise so maybe there will be two Andys.

by Anonymousreply 19August 19, 2021 10:45 PM

Well good riddance to bad homophobes, r17.

Chucky is a franchise created by a gay man.

Your bigot boy can take a hike.

R18 she met her husband on the first movie.

I bought this set when it was on sale for $15.

The low point for me is definitely Part 3. I'm not a huge fan of Brad Dourif's daughter, but when it comes to Chucky...In Don I Trust.

by Anonymousreply 25September 6, 2021 7:09 AM

^ Neither is listed on imdb for whatever that's worth. It also says that Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif are only in one episode, which I hope is incorrect. Probably too much to hope. On the other hand another returning character is in four episodes per imdb, and Alex Vincent is in three.

by Anonymousreply 26September 6, 2021 8:37 PM

Never trust IMDB before a show is out. It's always incomplete. And Tilly was on set for months, per social media

by Anonymousreply 28September 6, 2021 8:46 PM

This premise has some real potential. And could solve the problem of the original films that a goofy looking doll with a knife was more funny than scary, and the murders were just ridiculous. The first trailer looked promising but the second looks like it just devolves into a mess quick.

by Anonymousreply 37October 3, 2021 1:16 PM

Chucky premieres TONIGHT on SyFy!!

Is anyone watching?

by Anonymousreply 38October 13, 2021 1:25 AM

R38, I will await your review before I invest time in it.

by Anonymousreply 39October 13, 2021 1:32 AM

Chucky got lucky.

Hee hee hee hee hee HEEEEEEEEE

by Anonymousreply 40October 13, 2021 1:53 AM

This was just ok. The only times it was really entertaining was when Chucky was doing something. The younger cast seems to be very weak overall. The actor playing Jake was passable enough, but the others left a lot to be desired. The cousin, the black guy Jake has the crush on, and Lexy the bully cunt all needed better actors playing them. Not sure if I'll continue watching or not. I might watch another episode or two to see if it improves.

by Anonymousreply 41October 13, 2021 5:07 AM

I absolutely loved it, R41.

The show had a great gay vibe, the lead actor is cute, and the mean girl is a good villain.

Can't wait to see Jennifer Tilly and the kid who played Andy, join the cast.

But my absolute favorite part is the foul-mouthed Chucky. That always gets a laugh out of me.

The talent show scene was hilarious, especially when he told them all to go fuck themselves... rofl. And then they clapped for him!

I'm already invested in this show after only one episode.

by Anonymousreply 42October 13, 2021 8:41 AM

The Chucky doll is kind of cute.

by Anonymousreply 43October 13, 2021 4:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 47October 13, 2021 5:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 48October 13, 2021 5:48 PM

Not sure his love interest is right for him, though.

Not much chemistry there.

by Anonymousreply 49October 13, 2021 5:50 PM

It's like we're in Groundhog's Day. Every new movie is just a remake or a sequel, or in many cases a remake of a remake (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

by Anonymousreply 50October 13, 2021 6:06 PM

I disagree, R50.

This is a different iteration of Chucky, given that it's a television series, and the main character is a teen.

Also, this new version comes over 30 years since the original.

And you can really feel the difference.

by Anonymousreply 51October 13, 2021 6:12 PM

now lets talk about that little bitch Lexy

by Anonymousreply 59October 13, 2021 7:19 PM

It is a very good show so far. I liked Cult of Chucky and all, but it was just plain bizarre. I wasn't sure how they were going to follow up to it. But I wondered the same after the weirdness of Seed of Chucky and they did just fine. The series has taken many strange and unexpected twists and turns but it has been a fun ride and I love it. I look forward to seeing the rest and where this show goes. It will be hard to wait a whole week for another.

I was googling the cast, and the kid playing the cousin is Teo Briones, son of Jon Jon Briones who played a warlock on American Horror Story Coven, as well as Andrew Cunanan's father on American Crime Story: Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Surprisingly, he's the oldest of all the young main cast members.

by Anonymousreply 72October 14, 2021 4:18 PM

[quote] what was that face Lexy's mom was giving to the little sister? It looked like she was proud of her

The theme of this television version of Chucky seems to be getting even with bullies.

The little sister was clearly bullied by Lexy.

So when Chucky put Lexy in her place, and embarrassed her, the little sister all of a sudden perked up, and there was a glint in her eye. Almost in admiration of what Chucky was doing to her older sister.

It was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 73October 14, 2021 5:55 PM

I decided to give it a try. At first, I thought it was just more hacky modern juvenile horror BS, but it grew on me and ended up liking it. The characters have potential.

Devon Sawa is a total hot daddy now.

He played both the father and uncle of the lead twink, Jake.

by Anonymousreply 110October 20, 2021 4:27 AM

Lexy does realize that was Jr's uncle she was mocking?

by Anonymousreply 111October 20, 2021 4:30 AM

Lexy is so one dementional. And the actress is playing her is very stiff. You know they want us to want her dead, but she's just a basic, bland cunt. I doubt she gets killed off, just lots of close call teases.

by Anonymousreply 112October 20, 2021 4:42 AM

Unfortunately I can't imagine Lexy dying any time soon. They'll draw it out and keep us waiting. We need something to look forward to each episode so we can wonder "Will this be the one?" Then we can breathe a sigh of relief when it finally is. I just hope they don't try to give her a redemption arc. After how vile she's been, I don't know if I could bring myself to feel sorry for her.

by Anonymousreply 113October 20, 2021 5:00 AM

Lexy is the younger sister of the blond rich girl on the new Gossip Girl. Their mother is the drunk blond mom from One Tree Hill

by Anonymousreply 114October 20, 2021 6:11 AM

I think we'll learn that somebody is pulling Lexi's strings. Probably Tiffany or someone on Chucky's side.

by Anonymousreply 115October 20, 2021 10:27 AM

The actress playing Lexy played Faith Newman (Nick and Sharon’s daughter) on The Young & The Restless for ten years before recently leaving the role, presumably to do this Chucky project. She also played young Dolly Parton in the 2015 TV movie Coat of Many Colors.

I’ve never seen a Chucky movie, other than a bit here or there, but after reading an interview with the gay creator and learning this show would have some gay characters I decided to watch. It’s fun enough. The acting is pretty bad across the board. Glad Jennifer Tilly will be showing up.

The science teacher telling the bully to “shut the fuck up” was weird. Teachers can curse out students now?

R114. That’s funny. I was thinking Lexy reminded me of the chick from Gossip Girl. Apparently there is a third actress sister as well. I never watched One Tree Hill so I don’t recognize the mom, Barbara Alyn Woods.

by Anonymousreply 117October 20, 2021 11:00 AM

[quote] Unfortunately I can't imagine Lexy dying any time soon. They'll draw it out and keep us waiting.

I agree. Plus, the show needs a villain.

[quote] I just hope they don't try to give her a redemption arc. After how vile she's been

I think they're already doing it.

Making the parents seem like they don't care about her, and how she was saying that she was being bullied by "Chucky" on the stage, and then saying that her little sister didn't even like to be touched. It's all trying to make her seem like she's the victim. Even though we all know she's a thundercunt.

Anywho, the kids on this show look WAY too young to be drinking. Aren't they in Middle School? Like, 7th and 8th grade? And they look it, too.

The kid who plays Junior looks especially young. I don't see him as a jock OR an alpha male. He looks like a little twerp. I don't know why he was cast for this part. He's so wrong for it. I think it was a "diversity" hire, to be honest.

And does Hackensack have a rich enclave? Lol. The houses these people live in, look really nice. Like mansions. I thought Hackensack was a shithole?

The black lady passing out Halloween candy cracked me up. "Aren't you kids a little old to be trick-or-treating? When I was your age, I was getting high!" And then talking to the cop with the razor blade in her mouth. In the closing credits, her character is named "Gladys Kravitz." Lol.

by Anonymousreply 124October 20, 2021 3:24 PM

Bullies, abusive dad, etc. It's like half of DLers' childhoods including mine.

by Anonymousreply 125October 20, 2021 3:47 PM

The uncle is pretty hot.

by Anonymousreply 126October 20, 2021 3:54 PM

The uncle and the dad are both played by Devon Sawa.

by Anonymousreply 127October 20, 2021 4:34 PM

Watching Lexi dress up as Jake's dad for Halloween, was hilarious.

And then her acting out his electroction scene.... who is the twisted fuck who thought THAT up??

ZZZZZZZZZZZ ... uhhuuhuhuhuhuhuhhhhhhuhuh.. zzzzzzzz

Omg.

by Anonymousreply 128October 20, 2021 4:37 PM

I like how the dialogue between kids and adults is very contemporary and real: fuck this, shit that, no "Watch your language!" nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 129October 20, 2021 4:37 PM

Is Lexi's little sister autistic?

by Anonymousreply 130October 20, 2021 4:39 PM

Someone like Chucky could make this kid president. He just needs to follow everything he says. I'd like the animal abuse to stop, however.

by Anonymousreply 131October 20, 2021 5:00 PM

My boyfriend was born in Hackensack so I always laugh really hard when they talk about all the horrible things that come from there.

by Anonymousreply 132October 20, 2021 5:10 PM

R93, I believe SyFy themselves released the first episode on their official Youtube channel. I just watched it a couple of days ago, which would have been a week after it initially aired. Perhaps they will continue to do the same or maybe it was just a one time promotion for the series.

Overall I though it was decent. I was more surprised the USA network (and apparently SyFy) now allow F-bombs and other cuss words in their shows now. Chucky kind of sounds like Danny DeVito to me though.

by Anonymousreply 133October 20, 2021 5:23 PM

Ep 2 is out.

I grew up in Jersey not far from where this is set. I'm happy to have my region represented but the suspension of disbelief...hahahahahahaha

by Anonymousreply 135October 20, 2021 5:34 PM

Hackensack is a SHIT HOLE.

by Anonymousreply 136October 20, 2021 6:21 PM

after all the killing Chucky has done, I still had to turn my head when he went after the housekeeper

by Anonymousreply 137October 20, 2021 6:48 PM

That killing made no sense, R137.

It was gratuitous. I guess there has to be a killing in every episode.

I think it's funny that I actually see Lexi as a worse villain than Chucky.

by Anonymousreply 138October 20, 2021 6:57 PM

It suck that one of the most Jersey towns in the state is being represented by pale porridgy Canadians with northern accents. They need more hairy Italians to be authentic.

by Anonymousreply 139October 20, 2021 7:13 PM

The main boy looks like he could be Italian.

by Anonymousreply 140October 20, 2021 7:33 PM

The kid that plays Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) is cute now, but he's going to age like spoiled milk.

The only thing going for him right now is that he's a twink. But he sort of has cave man features.

I'm curious to see what he looks like in his 20's and 30's.

But they didn't make out.

They were both trying to escape.

by Anonymousreply 144October 20, 2021 9:09 PM

I was actually wondering if Jake was just imagining Chucky talking to him.

Maybe he is going crazy from bullying, and he's going to become a killer. And "Chucky" is just the voices in his head.

You think?

by Anonymousreply 145October 20, 2021 9:15 PM

That would be a pretty dark variation of a school shooting (going after his school bullies). I don't think any show would go there.

by Anonymousreply 146October 20, 2021 9:24 PM

R144, true, but the assumption from the other kids was that they did -- to cheers and not jeers.

by Anonymousreply 147October 20, 2021 9:31 PM

Lexy sure is a lot. I don't remember anyone in junior high being that awful. Then again, I was a loner and didn't give a shit about the so-called popular kids.

So Jake is Chucky's descendant, right? That's why Chucky is taking a special interest? That could mesh with the idea that Chucky and Tiffany are manipulating all this. Chucky wants Jake to carry on the family tradition (because Glen/da is not?)

by Anonymousreply 148October 22, 2021 1:25 AM

[quote] So Jake is Chucky's descendant, right? That's why Chucky is taking a special interest?

Where did you get that from, R148?

I must have missed the part when they mentioned that.

by Anonymousreply 149October 22, 2021 1:43 AM

Junior in bathrobe ( and later in shorts ) plus Oliver brought out my inner Bryan Singer.

by Anonymousreply 152October 22, 2021 2:51 PM

Nevermind. The other kid calls him a pussy. Figured it out.

by Anonymousreply 153October 22, 2021 2:52 PM

I still don't know if the main twink is a bad or a good actor.

by Anonymousreply 154October 22, 2021 3:02 PM

Same here, R154.

I would say that he's a decent actor for his age. But at times, you can definitely tell he's acting.

Same goes for most of the other kids.

Oh, and did Chucky give Jake a black eye? WTF was that all about?

So he goes from being abused by his dad, to being abused by Chucky? It was a weird conversation, when Chucky tells Jake "I'm sorry, I'll never do that again."

by Anonymousreply 155October 22, 2021 3:45 PM

r155, that's what abusive husbands say when they beat their wives.

I believe it plays into the premise that people in abusive relationships only attract more abusive relationships until they abandon their "I'm a doormat and I deserve all the beatings I get!" low self-esteem beliefs.

Jake's relationship with his dad, Jake's relationship with Lexy (his main bully on the show), and Chucky.

by Anonymousreply 156October 22, 2021 4:56 PM

[quote]I still don't know if the main twink is a bad or a good actor.

[quote] Anywho, the kids on this show look WAY too young to be drinking. Aren't they in Middle School? Like, 7th and 8th grade? And they look it, too.

[quote] I believe it plays into the premise that people in abusive relationships only attract more abusive relationships until they abandon their "I'm a doormat and I deserve all the beatings I get!" low self-esteem beliefs.

I hope they don't go too far with it. What they did with Freddy in the remake was just icky. People want to see Chucky kill. They don't want child abuse.

by Anonymousreply 158October 22, 2021 5:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 159October 22, 2021 5:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 171October 27, 2021 2:00 AM

Lexy's parents might need to be killed over that ugly green kitchen

by Anonymousreply 174October 27, 2021 2:54 AM

So did Chucky kill Lexy? I see a few ways this can pan out next week. Lexy may somehow live and realize Jake knew Chucky was alive so he gave him to her for that reason. From then she'll either realize she caused him enough pain to want her to dead so she'll finally realize what an awful person she has been, change her ways, and eventually join forces with Jake to try and stop Chucky. Or perhaps she'll want to make Jake pay for what he tried to do to her.

And if she's dead, Jake will definitely be blamed and will be in deeper shit than he is already. It'll be interesting to see where this goes next week.

by Anonymousreply 175October 27, 2021 4:25 AM

R175 It looks as though she is still alive and is joining forces with Jake.

by Anonymousreply 179October 27, 2021 7:32 AM

There are multiple Chuckys per the last film. This is a continuation of that. Fiona Dourif is possessed by him in this. The guy that played the father of the girl that’s a cunt played the doctor in the last film.

by Anonymousreply 180October 27, 2021 7:33 AM

Because this is set in middle school, the over the top evil asshole behavior feels a little more real than if this were high school. In my experience, high school was pretty chill compared to middle school. Most movies depict high school as either a living hell or The Garden of Eden. It's neither.

by Anonymousreply 181October 27, 2021 9:27 AM

Aw, the pretty twink got butchered.

How ridiculous are those parties where you dance to music playing in your headphones? And none of the kids felt the blast and the heat from the fire explosion? Was a good visual, though.

by Anonymousreply 182October 27, 2021 2:57 PM

I agree with R181. After middle school, high school was a fucking breeze. Everyone was a sociopath in middle school. All those hormones just made everyone paranoid, angsty, and angry the whole time. I wouldn't go back there if you paid me a million dollars.

The OGs are apparently in the fifth episode: Andy, Kyle and Tiffany go after Chucky. I’m glad they’re killing the kids in this. That would suck if they didn’t. Chucky killed kids in the third Child’s Play. Fiona Dourif will be possessed by Chucky in this show. She does such a brilliant impersonation of Chucky himself, her father, Brad Dourif.

Does anyone know if Zachary Arthur is dating Alyvia Alyn Lind?

I assumed they were based on their InstaGram posts, which would also explain why he seems to have more chemistry with her than his "love interest" Devon.

The gay love story has been a bit of a bust. So far...

by Anonymousreply 201October 31, 2021 9:13 PM

New episode tonight!

by Anonymousreply 204November 3, 2021 1:19 AM

This was a really good episode, but I wish that Jake had killed Lexy!! I hate her so much. She's fucking annoying.

The scene with Chucky and the cop with the doughnuts was funny.

by Anonymousreply 205November 3, 2021 12:54 PM

R205 I agree. I thought Lexy would take a good, long look at herself and think "I am so cruel to people that they actually want me dead. What's wrong with me?" But instead she continues acting like a victim and blaming everyone else for what she does. At this point, I think she's a lost cause.

I am glad to see Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif in the teaser for next week's episode, though. I've been waiting for them for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 206November 3, 2021 1:09 PM

Loved last nights episode. It's a good one if you haven't seen it yet.

To those mentioning the show getting bleeped out at times, I haven't encountered that at all yet. If anything, I was pretty surprised from the get go that they had no problem swearing up a storm and dropping f-bombs.

On a side note though, I've been watching them the following day via streaming sites (pirated content). If the show is being censored in some instances, there is certainly uncensored versions of it airing as well.

by Anonymousreply 207November 3, 2021 1:39 PM

R207 It has only happened once. In episode 3 during the party scene in the scene where Chucky tries to kill Lexy and the fire is starting.

by Anonymousreply 208November 3, 2021 2:07 PM

To be fair to Lexy she took Jake gave my sister a killer doll with instructions to murder me and my house burned down a lot calmer than I would have done. She's still a cunt but yeah progress I guess So Junior is the only one of the 4 completely out of the loop which doesn't bode well for him and his cross country worries.

by Anonymousreply 209November 3, 2021 2:19 PM

I liked when Jake told off Lexy in her burned down house then called her a fucking bitch or something like that.

It was good!

by Anonymousreply 210November 3, 2021 6:26 PM

I read OP as "Chomsky" and expected another hit piece on Gen Z

by Anonymousreply 211November 3, 2021 6:29 PM

Loved the latest episode. Show started choppy but I'm all in now, even with Jake's smell-the-fart acting.

God, I love hospitals. And deep cuts.

by Anonymousreply 212November 3, 2021 6:56 PM

Was Junior hallucinating in the hospital?

What did the doctor and nurse give him? That was trippy.

Also, is Jake bisexual now? I agree with the person who said that he has chemistry with Lexy.

At this point, his "crush" on Devon is starting to seem forced. All they do is smile and wave at each other.

by Anonymousreply 213November 3, 2021 7:11 PM

They did do a poor job in casting. You'd think they would've chemistry tested the actors playing Jake and Devon, because they have very little chemistry besides maybe a friend chemistry and like someone pointed out Devon is too young looking so it makes the whole thing seem even less realistic.

The Lexy redemption is coming off as forced too. She was pretty one dementional cunt who had very little redeeming qualities. I give the actress playing her some credit though, she actually seemed to trying in this weeks episode.

by Anonymousreply 214November 3, 2021 7:34 PM

I luv the show so far.

Are they planning a 2nd season or is this a 1 time thing?

by Anonymousreply 215November 3, 2021 7:56 PM

R213 What makes you think Jake's bisexual? Just because he has 'chemistry' with someone means nothing.

by Anonymousreply 216November 4, 2021 2:45 AM

R215 I'm sure Don Mancini wants to do a 2nd season, but it's up to the network

by Anonymousreply 217November 4, 2021 2:46 AM

The chemistry is good for Lexy's redemption arc. Very "people from opposite's sides work together for a greater cause, like fighting against a common enemy".

by Anonymousreply 218November 4, 2021 2:47 AM

My appologies. People from opposite sides ...

by Anonymousreply 219November 4, 2021 2:48 AM

[quote] What makes you think Jake's bisexual?

by Anonymousreply 220November 4, 2021 2:52 AM

Isn't the character promoted as gay? Or does PR use the more general term queer which includes bisexuality?

by Anonymousreply 221November 4, 2021 2:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 222November 4, 2021 3:00 AM

His sexuality is insinuated by Junior in the first episode, but never confirmed by Jake himself.

He made gaga eyes at Devon in episode one, but nothing ever came of it.

Now it seems that they're just friends.

I don't think the writers are rushing to confirm Jake's sexuality.

by Anonymousreply 223November 4, 2021 3:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 225November 4, 2021 4:53 AM

I am amazed by how much I'm enjoying this show.

by Anonymousreply 226November 4, 2021 7:05 AM

Great show but the lead is starting to get annoying. Every scene it’s the same Claire Danes crumpled face crying. Very one note.

by Anonymousreply 227November 4, 2021 1:13 PM

I was thinking about it and I'd probably have swapped Junior and Jakes actors. Half of the shows Twitter has already decided Junior is a closet case, and looks wise he'd certainly fit the lonely gay artist role better than Zackary Arthur does. And at least Arthur doesn't look like a light breeze would blow him away so I could probably buy him as someone forced to play sports by their dad.

by Anonymousreply 228November 4, 2021 2:42 PM

I agree the girl playing Lexi is doing good work. Junior and Devon need to get off the Ambien.

by Anonymousreply 229November 4, 2021 2:52 PM

Jake is on Effexor, R229.

lol

by Anonymousreply 230November 4, 2021 5:37 PM

I love that Lexi was in danger of falling to her death... and yet, she was low enough to the ground that Chucky could almost stab her feet with the knife.

by Anonymousreply 231November 4, 2021 6:26 PM

I want to take Effexor now, because of Jake.

I looked it up. Sounds promising.

by Anonymousreply 232November 4, 2021 6:27 PM

I can't believe I missed this, but a reviewer this afternoon had me in tears over the scene with Lexi dangling from the upper floor. They show Chucky swiping at her with a knife - he's only about 2 feet tall, LMAO! Even taking into account the length of his arm and the knife, that would hardly have been a lethal drop.

by Anonymousreply 233November 4, 2021 7:03 PM

LOL. I think some of you were missing the point. Lexi wouldn't have died from falling. She would have been killed by Chucky. Jake was supposed to be Chucky's accomplice by letting her fall so Chucky could finish her off.

by Anonymousreply 234November 4, 2021 7:41 PM

We just want Lexy to be killed off, R234.

We don't care how.

She's a mean cunt.

by Anonymousreply 235November 4, 2021 7:43 PM

I don't get the impression that Junior's in the closet at all. If anything he probably has a ton of hidden anger stored up against his parents, but not a hidden sexuality.

I find Junior quite interesting. He's got the confidence of a popular jock but the appearance of a more sensitive soul.

by Anonymousreply 236November 4, 2021 8:47 PM

Junior is a loser.

His character is boring as fuck.

He looks like a 12 year old twerp.

The guy doesn't belong on this show.

by Anonymousreply 247November 5, 2021 4:49 PM

The actor playing young Charles Lee Ray is Tyler Barish. He is canadian and is easily the best of the younger actors on the show. Hopefully he gets out of Canada sooner than later so he can have a better career.

r241 That made me thinking ; while Jake and Junior are cousins their fathers were identical twins which make them genetically half brothers right?

Just started watching. Some thoughts: Is Jake's cousin supposed to be gay too? Why did they have that one guy ask him out in the first episode only for the issue to be dropped? I don't get it. I don't buy that he's into Lexie. It seems like Lexie is more like his beard. Another thing I noticed is everyone is allowed to kiss and have sex... except the gay guy who is once again neutered and celibate. And wha's with his love interest? He looks like he's 10 years old ffs. They couldn't have casted a better love interest? ugh.

by Anonymousreply 254November 7, 2021 8:12 AM

Jake has more chemistry with Lexie than his supposed love interest lmao. Total casting fail. His love interest is a dud. Too bad.

by Anonymousreply 255November 7, 2021 9:10 AM

Can't stand Devon. Boring, don't know how to act and he looks like he's 10. Why would they cast him as Jake's love interest? Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 256November 7, 2021 9:13 AM

R223 Exactly. Just another show with neutered gays who don't get to kiss or have sex like their straight counterparts.

by Anonymousreply 257November 7, 2021 9:15 AM

[Quote]They did do a poor job in casting. You'd think they would've chemistry tested the actors playing Jake and Devon, because they have very little chemistry besides maybe a friend chemistry and like someone pointed out Devon is too young looking so it makes the whole thing seem even less realistic.

This. Devon looks like he's 10 years old. I find it VERY hard to believe an out gay like Jake would go for someone like him, no matter how much they have in common. It's kinda gross that he's attracted to someone who looks 10.

by Anonymousreply 258November 7, 2021 9:17 AM

[Quote]At this point, his "crush" on Devon is starting to seem forced. All they do is smile and wave at each other.

Yup. I think this is why they casted someone who looked like he was 10. Easier to get away with yet another castrated gay character.

by Anonymousreply 259November 7, 2021 9:19 AM

They are 13, they were not going to do anything with the supposed attraction anyway

by Anonymousreply 260November 7, 2021 11:04 AM

LOL. The internet brings out the inner Goldilocks in some of you. (Chucky) Those kid actors look way too young! (Riverdale and other teen drama shows) Jesus Christ! The actors look too old to play teenagers!

by Anonymousreply 261November 7, 2021 11:12 AM

r260 I mean Lexie tried to bang Junior. In about as graphic a way as you can show attempted junior high sex.

by Anonymousreply 262November 7, 2021 12:49 PM

R262 Yes, but we know for mainstream audiences a boy and a girl kissing is love and a boy and a boy is sex (and a lot of outrage)

by Anonymousreply 263November 7, 2021 12:53 PM

You have to remember that Devon is still likely unsure about his sexuality. There will be a kiss, it'll just take time.

[quote]Do we get a gay kiss?

I can't see how they get more than a few seasons out of this show. Some of the kids on this year will look 35 by next year. I assume Chucky will be put in a new state/city every season and cause murder and mayhem where he goes.

I've also been keeping a eye on the ratings for the show. They are down a bit each week. Don't know what that means as far as a second season is concerned. Strange, it appears that the ratings are better on USA than SyFy!

WTF?

by Anonymousreply 270November 8, 2021 6:43 PM

This apparently isn't a spoiler based on reviews from the last episode, and more or less confirmed by previews of tomorrow nights episode - but apparently there's more than one Chucky doll. Looking forward to it!

by Anonymousreply 271November 8, 2021 6:57 PM

R271 It would make sense considering the condition of Chucky in the last episode.

by Anonymousreply 272November 8, 2021 6:58 PM

r271 They sort of showed one last episode as well. While Junior is passing out on pain meds (and singing We Got The Beat by the Go-Go's for some reason) he see's a doll run past his room door while burn victim Chucky is still back at the house.

by Anonymousreply 276November 8, 2021 11:11 PM

Why the hell would you touch that stuff in a medical trashcan?

by Anonymousreply 277November 10, 2021 2:31 AM

so it's only been two weeks between the show and the the Cult of Chucky?

by Anonymousreply 278November 10, 2021 3:10 AM

Wow. It was Fiona Dourif playing the younger Charles Lee Ray. She did a great job doing those scenes and in the scene when transformed back into Nica.

by Anonymousreply 279November 10, 2021 3:13 AM

Alex Vincent (Andy) grew up quite attractive

by Anonymousreply 280November 10, 2021 3:51 AM

Is she still Tiffany in Jennifer Tilly's body?

by Anonymousreply 281November 10, 2021 3:59 AM

R281 I believe so. But I often wonder what happened to the fictionalized Jennifer Tilly from Seed of Chucky. Does Tiffany masquerade as a famous poker player and actress in her free time? Is she both?

by Anonymousreply 282November 10, 2021 4:14 AM

I understand if its just family and close friends but must everybody called him "junior" ? From teachers to police even doctors in the hospitals.

by Anonymousreply 283November 10, 2021 4:24 AM

R278 That may have been a flashback, since Jake's dad's tombstone said 2021 and Cult of Chucky should have been in 2017

by Anonymousreply 284November 10, 2021 6:04 AM

I didn't care for the 80s flashbacks.

by Anonymousreply 285November 10, 2021 12:11 PM

A Colton Haynes-type should have played Junior and the kid playing Junior should have played the podcast host.

by Anonymousreply 286November 10, 2021 12:14 PM

R285 I don't think I did either. That woman they chose to play Tiffany looked nothing like Jennifer Tilly. And you mean to tell me her voice randomly changed one moment for no apparent reason and she started talking that way forever? People on social media are also saying they were "shocked" that Fiona Dourif played Charles Lee Ray and claim they couldn't even tell it was her. But I knew the second she took the glasses off and was surprised no one else seemed to recognize her.

by Anonymousreply 287November 10, 2021 12:16 PM

This episode was so good!

Finally, Jake and Devon's relationship is moving forward. Young love.. it's so cute! It was absolutely adorable watching them share a little peck on the lips, and then holding hands in the auditorium. I loved the look on Devon's mother's face when she saw them holding hands.

The school Principal looked like the lady from the Spectrum TV commercial. Was that her? The hair and the voice looked familiar.

Devon Sawa looked hot this episode. He's such a DILF.

And we finally learned his wife's secret. I was hoping she was secretly a lesbian. But nope!

The tied-up twink in the chair was super cute. But why would he be stripped down to his boxers and his mouth stuffed with a ball gag?? Rofl. I think that was one of Don Mancini's boy toy fantasies. Maybe even one of his tricks from real life. His name is Eric Tzogas (photo at link).

Oh, and I loved the music from this episode, too!

r286 I think it would have been better if they'd just made him a theatre kid, and dad a failed actor. beyond the fact that's far more likely than forcing your own failed track career on your kid. Junior can still be a popular dick to everyone that way and it wouldn't matter they'd cast the feyest Asian teenager outside of K-pop.

What is the point of the "Junior" character?

He's so useless.

by Anonymousreply 292November 10, 2021 5:58 PM

r292 To turn evil and become Chuck's next student or (host maybe) since Jake is now firmly in team "No Murder".

by Anonymousreply 293November 10, 2021 6:01 PM

Maybe Junior's voice will also change when he kills someone for the first time.

by Anonymousreply 294November 10, 2021 6:50 PM

I admit I didn't realize it was Fiona Dourif playing young Charles Lee Ray. Maybe I was too busy wondering why they didn't use the actor who played teen Charles.

Already with the fat jokes. Jennifer Tilly is a good sport.

Jake and Devon holding hands was pretty darn cute.

Looking forward to the mayor getting killed.

by Anonymousreply 295November 10, 2021 6:56 PM

[quote] Maybe Junior's voice will also change when he kills someone for the first time.

by Anonymousreply 296November 10, 2021 7:05 PM

[quote] People on social media are also saying they were "shocked" that Fiona Dourif played Charles Lee Ray and claim they couldn't even tell it was her.

I didn't recognizer her, either. I thought it was some Tobey Maguire clone double.

It's interesting that the twin dads are both kind of jerks to their own sons, pushing them into career paths they don't want for themselves. I wonder if there's a backstory there?

Great use of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song Heads Will Role.

The CGI could be better, though. The severed head of the school's head mistress and the sliced throat of the twink and the blood spilling was not well done IMO.

by Anonymousreply 302November 11, 2021 6:05 AM

The stuff with the dirty needles grossed me out more than the blood/gore. The Chucky intro/logo also triggers my trypophobia a bit.

by Anonymousreply 303November 11, 2021 1:04 PM

This show is really coming together. I'm surprised by how much I've been enjoying it. I have no idea how much story will be left for a season two, but Mancini usually has some idea of where he's going with the series so I trust him.

by Anonymousreply 304November 11, 2021 5:20 PM

R304 Perhaps Jake will be running away from Chucky for the rest of his life just like Andy Barclay.

by Anonymousreply 305November 11, 2021 5:23 PM

Fiona Dourif did an amazing job!

I've only seen the Child's Play franchise movies up until 'Bride of Chucky,' so there are a couple of allusions, characters, and references I'm not getting. Still love the show though!

by Anonymousreply 306November 11, 2021 5:24 PM

I wonder if Mancini was already thinking about the possession when he cast Fiona in Curse.

by Anonymousreply 307November 11, 2021 6:00 PM

I'm pretty damn gay, but Fiona has a super hot body.

by Anonymousreply 308November 11, 2021 11:17 PM

I'm trying really hard to like this show but I have mixed feelings so far. Why did Chucky transfer his soul to the doll and not the sister? That's my main problem with the show so far. 5 episodes in and have no idea what Charles Lee Ray is up to and the backstory regarding Cult of Chucky is still confusing, I would imagine much more so for someone who hasn't seen it. The kissing scene was cute but I felt no chemistry between the two love interests up to that point. I'm not sure I can entirely blame the actors as the made it seem like the kid was using Jake for his podcast. I never was convinced that he had real feelings for Jake.

A lot of people are not buying Lexi's redemption arc, but I personally find her more likeable than Jake at this point. What she did was mean but so was the incident at the talent show. And plus, he tried to kill her. I thought they did a better job of redeeming Lexi with that scene with her sister and oh yeah, forgiving Jake for trying to kill her.

Junior also feels like an aimless character too. And not sure why I should feel sympathetic to his mother.

Despite all this, I'm still hoping the show delivers in it's last few episodes but it's been a mixed bag so far.

by Anonymousreply 309November 12, 2021 7:44 PM

I've had time to think about the cancer revelation and I'm thinking that perhaps they're planning on making her an eventual or secret accomplice to Chucky with her using voodoo to try to change bodies. It may be a totally wild guess, but it would be interesting if they do go there.

by Anonymousreply 310November 13, 2021 4:54 AM

Brad Dourif's voice sounds inconsistent. At times Chucky sounds exactly the same as he did in the 80's and at other times he sounds noticeably older.

The puppetry is good but at times it seems really bad or fake like the angry face Chucky made before killing Jake's dad or when he blew kisses at Junior's mom after pushing her out the window. Those are two of the worst examples.

Is the science teacher Tiffany's sister? People were speculating that she might be Glen or Glenda which would be impossible since the twins would be 16 by now.

by Anonymousreply 326November 17, 2021 6:56 AM

This episode was nuts!!

I was on the edge of my seat at the very end.

That first death was pretty shocking, considering how graphic it was.

The second one was more surprising than anything.

I think the coming out scene was well done and cute. And the little banter between Jake and Devon was cute too.

This show is much, much better than I ever thought it would be.

by Anonymousreply 332November 17, 2021 1:40 PM

I'm surprised Chucky didn't make some cruel remark about her cancer before killing her. But I suppose in today's climate it would be considered bad taste and might cause controversy. So perhaps it's for the best he just laughed and committed the act. But overall, last night's episode was one of the best so far. I loved it. Everyone got good parts. And I love the theory that the teacher is secretly Glenda. But then, where is Glen?

by Anonymousreply 333November 17, 2021 1:46 PM

but wasn't Glenda the bad one? It was a voodoo pregnancy after all, so maybe the grew faster outside of the body as well?

by Anonymousreply 334November 17, 2021 3:04 PM

"I got you now, BITCH!" Chucky to Lexi.

R341 whatever tweaks she did around her eyes were very distracting.

Wasn't Bree supposed to have stage 4 cancer? I'm not intimately familiar with cancer, but wouldn't that kind of diagnosis be near-impossible to hide from people you live with? And shouldn't she at least somewhat look like shit?...before she did her Rage: Carrie 2 splat.

by Anonymousreply 354November 18, 2021 6:33 PM

Andy and Christine Elise killed that little girl's Chucky doll at the very beginning of the episode, right?

So how did he come back to life?

by Anonymousreply 355November 18, 2021 6:34 PM

r355, He pulled a Harry Potter Voldemort and split his evil soul in several parts and hid them in several Good Guy dolls and a certain someone, Nica.

by Anonymousreply 356November 18, 2021 6:37 PM

This show is off the walls crazy, but still makes some sort of sense. It's like what would happen if Ryan Murphy actually got his shit together for once.

by Anonymousreply 357November 18, 2021 6:50 PM

R355 This is true and unfortunately some people would probably miss this if they're not familiar with the movie lore.

by Anonymousreply 358November 18, 2021 6:50 PM

It was mentioned ON THE SHOW at least once when Nica made that info dump while talking to the twink who got his throat sliced later on. And we saw how Chucky transferred his part of the soul from the charred doll to the new one.

If you're confused, you're not paying attention and that's on you and not the show's fault.

by Anonymousreply 359November 18, 2021 6:57 PM

[quote] He pulled a Harry Potter Voldemort and split his evil soul in several parts and hid them in several Good Guy dolls and a certain someone, Nica.

So it's like the "Horcrux" theory where he splits his soul to stay alive.

And instead of hiding the broken parts of his soul in different objects, he hides them in Good Guy dolls?

by Anonymousreply 369November 18, 2021 7:59 PM

Alex Vincent has some words on Facebook for those who are criticizing his acting skills.

[quote]So far the biggest criticisms of my performance of Andy are that he’s “empty, unnaturally disconnected, flat, hallow, and void of emotion”. Thank you! That’s exactly what he is, and what you’d be too. It’s not the biggest stretch ever for me to play a character that is ”somewhat damaged”, and “broken”. The effects of chucky’s torment may have fused Andy and Alex in more ways than some can realize.

by Anonymousreply 370November 18, 2021 8:43 PM

oy all this mishegoss over a sassy doll.

by Anonymousreply 371November 18, 2021 9:13 PM

Currently rewatching Child's Play. I complete forgot Dinah Manoff was in this!

Well Andy, at least "Aunt Maggie" can act!

Which is more than I can say for you.

by Anonymousreply 376November 19, 2021 6:35 PM

[quote]does this mean that Jennifer Tilly is still alive like how Nica is still sharing her body with Chucky?

Interesting thought, but I doubt they would go there since that's Nica's thing. And technically it was a different spell that put Tiffany in Jennifer's body.

by Anonymousreply 377November 19, 2021 8:05 PM

Since Nica only has a part of Chucky's soul, it's possible that the spell is weaker which is why Nica is able to fight and gain control at times.

by Anonymousreply 378November 19, 2021 8:17 PM

If Chucky can inhabit any person or body he chooses, why do the characters say "there's only one doll left'? Can't he just go into more people or dolls when he is in danger of being killed? Is there a way to permanently stop him from doing this?

by Anonymousreply 379November 19, 2021 8:27 PM

r379, there's an actual ritual, with an incantation, involved which he has to perform to transfer his split soul (as we saw when he switched from severely burned doll to new doll). Apparently, Charles is not aware that his other split soul parts have been picked off one by one. And his soul parts are already weak when Nica can take charge of her body on occasion. Obviously, Good Guy dolls have no soul of their own, so Chucky has full control over inanimate dolls.

My wild guess is that there are only two soul parts remaining. The one in the doll and the one in Nica (which, I assume, Tiffany will transfer into a Good Guy doll soon to be with Nica full time - the package she received sure looks big enough for a Good Guy Doll in its original packaging).

Is tonight the season finale?

by Anonymousreply 381November 23, 2021 11:06 PM

Next week is the finale. But this weeks episode looks really good from the promos released.

r381 Tonight's the penultimate one.

by Anonymousreply 383November 23, 2021 11:19 PM

Wow that's a great teaser, R383!

So why did Devon Sawa's character kiss Jennifer Tilly back?

Did he actually know her?

Is that why Chucky killed his wife?

by Anonymousreply 384November 23, 2021 11:27 PM

I wonder who's going to get the ax tonight?

Maybe the Mayor.

by Anonymousreply 385November 24, 2021 12:49 AM

I still think the detective mom could've saved herself by at least attempting to grab hold of the banister

by Anonymousreply 386November 24, 2021 1:59 AM

How does Jennifer Tilly/Tiffany know Logan?

by Anonymousreply 387November 24, 2021 2:06 AM

It'd be funny if Meg Tilly showed up at some point playing herself, trying to figure out wtf is wrong with her sister.

by Anonymousreply 388November 24, 2021 2:10 AM

Logan is going to turn into Lucas

by Anonymousreply 389November 24, 2021 2:14 AM

He used Chucky as the fucking weapon. Screw it I love this kid. Let him murder the entire town.

by Anonymousreply 390November 24, 2021 2:56 AM

Chucky's got the beat

by Anonymousreply 391November 24, 2021 3:17 AM

The scene at the end definetly set the stage for a second season.

by Anonymousreply 392November 24, 2021 3:24 AM

There should be a bunch of Tiffany dolls running around too. If Chucky can inhabit Nica's body and a bunch of dolls, I don't see why Tiffany couldn't inhabit Jennifer Tilly's body and dolls as well. I guess it's because the Tiffany doll wasn't mass produced by a toy factory.

by Anonymousreply 393November 24, 2021 4:00 AM

I usually think massively long seasons in a show like this just lead to pointless plot bloat. But they should have at least gone for 12 rather than 8. This finale is going to be so overstuffed with doll armies captured boyfriends evil cousins and everything else I think its sort of going to be a let down in a lot of ways. and I think they've glossed over a lot of character development. Lexi has gone from an alpha bitch to now calling Jake "family" in under three 40 minute episodes.

by Anonymousreply 394November 24, 2021 4:30 AM

It's weird how I went from hating Lexy to actually enjoying her character. Though I agree her 180 personality change was jarring.

by Anonymousreply 395November 24, 2021 5:59 AM

"Aren't you a little young to have seen Bound?" LOL

by Anonymousreply 396November 24, 2021 6:46 AM

Aren't these kids that would still recognize Jennifer Tilly?

by Anonymousreply 397November 24, 2021 7:10 AM

I have never seen any of the movies, so I’ve been sort of out of the know about the backstory. I’ve been putting it together, but did NOT realize until last night that Jennifer Tilly is playing “herself”! I admit I kind of half-watch this show due to the bad acting, but I’ve become more interested now that Jenniffer has arrived. She is a total hoot!

by Anonymousreply 398November 24, 2021 8:51 AM

The show if fantastic.

"When was the last time you took me out for a nice dinner and a murder?". LOL

Though think Devon Sawa was a bit underused. I thought there would be more to his characters. BTW, Devon is in also in a recent horror comedy called Black Friday.

by Anonymousreply 403November 24, 2021 5:39 PM

I'd assume this will definitely be getting a second season. For a cable show, it's been doing really well and the fans have been enjoying it. Seems like a given. There's too much to have to tie up in one more hour.

by Anonymousreply 404November 24, 2021 6:23 PM

BTW I watched that Black Friday movie and it was pretty bad. And mostly just bad-bad, not fun-bad. Curse my love of Bruce Campbell!

by Anonymousreply 405November 24, 2021 6:31 PM

I wonder if season 2 will have the same cast and be a direct continuation or be somewhere completely new? I suppose the one benefit to a villain like Chucky is you can pretty much set it anywhere

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 406November 24, 2021 6:56 PM

r406 That was meant to say "one of the benefits".

by Anonymousreply 407November 24, 2021 7:00 PM

Given how the creator of the show and the Chucky franchise likes to tie it all together, I think the 2nd season will be connected with the first one.

by Anonymousreply 408November 24, 2021 7:00 PM

I hope they keep Christine Elise on as a major cast member. It's been nice to see her return as Kyle. I hope she's given more to do in season 2.

by Anonymousreply 409November 24, 2021 7:04 PM

That first glimpse of the Chucky doll army gave me goosebumps.

You know, at first I just wanted to post some snark about Bjorgvin Arnarson looking almost like a toddler in his suit at Junior's Mom's funeral, but the rest of the episode was so fantastic.

It's probably one of the best new shows in 2021.

by Anonymousreply 410November 24, 2021 7:06 PM

r408 Then my prediction is Devon, Jake, Junior and probably Lexi when her mother inevitably dies in the finale all living in an orphanage.

by Anonymousreply 411November 24, 2021 7:10 PM

How can the world stand up against an army of Chuckys? Are they going to have to bring in the army and SWAT teams? I feel it may have an apocalyptic "Night of the Living Dead" vibe.

by Anonymousreply 412November 24, 2021 7:19 PM

I'll be sad if they don't contrive a way to keep Zaddy Sawa around.

by Anonymousreply 413November 24, 2021 7:37 PM

I was hoping we would see more about the teacher. I guess that’s next episode?

I'm getting a bad feeling that Andy won't survive.

by Anonymousreply 419November 24, 2021 9:25 PM

How is Lexy the only one who still has BOTH parents?

by Anonymousreply 420November 24, 2021 9:52 PM

Isn’t it weird to have this big funeral for Junior’s mom and not Devon’s mom, the detective who served the city?

by Anonymousreply 421November 24, 2021 10:02 PM

So glad to see Christine Elise got a job.

by Anonymousreply 422November 24, 2021 10:17 PM

R405, I agree. I just saw Black Friday, and it was - well, just bad. It was almost as if they didn't even have a script for the movie and were just making the whole thing up on the fly.

Chucky does have a brief cameo in it though.

by Anonymousreply 423November 24, 2021 10:50 PM

r416 That's a good point because when Junior finds out about Chucky really changes his personality a lot. If he's known pretty much since he overheard him and Jake talking and has been lying to the others then he's just straight up evil. If he found out at his lowest point post his moms death then he's an idiot and really should have put 2 and 2 together about killer doll and a dead parent. If he thinks he's hallucinating the talking doll then he's a complete nutjob (more of one any way).

by Anonymousreply 424November 24, 2021 11:23 PM

I think there was a photocopying error and some pages were left out of the script, R423. Really wouldn't be surprised.

I forgot about the Chucky bit. Poor little Alice.

by Anonymousreply 425November 24, 2021 11:41 PM

r401 r403 they explain it at 7.40 in this. Junior's secret dream was to be a singer apparently.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 426November 25, 2021 1:49 AM

Junior doesn't come across as a singer. AT ALL..

by Anonymousreply 427November 25, 2021 1:53 AM

Really? I sort of see it. He's meant to have been repressing what he likes and trying to become a jock please his dad even though he hated running. Which is why they got a skinny Asian musician to play him and why he was so desperate for approval and ended up snapping in the end.

by Anonymousreply 428November 25, 2021 2:00 AM

How does Lexi's mother die next week?

by Anonymousreply 429November 25, 2021 4:55 AM

R429 Doesn't matter how, as long as it's brutal

by Anonymousreply 430November 25, 2021 5:00 AM

R427

Yeah, most people who watch the show definitely didn’t get that. Should’ve added more details.

by Anonymousreply 431November 25, 2021 6:36 AM

Give this show some Emmys! I think it might be my favorite of 2021.

by Anonymousreply 432November 25, 2021 9:44 PM

Lexi's 180 doesn't work for me. 2 weeks ago she was mocking Jake's dead dad as her Halloween costume, and now they're "chosen family"?

She's a good actress. I would've rather seen her as Chucky's protege instead of the bland cousin.

by Anonymousreply 433November 26, 2021 6:01 AM

Season finale on Tuesday!

Did anyone catch the Chucky marathon today?

I'm all caught up.

by Anonymousreply 434November 26, 2021 4:14 PM

R424 My thoughts exactly. I'm enjoying the show but it has lots of problems. It's odd how they choose to reveal important story and character beats in later episodes, when introducing them sooner would have provided context for understanding what was going on. The whole army of dolls subplot should have been weaved in much sooner so the audience wouldn't be completely confused.

by Anonymousreply 435November 26, 2021 6:01 PM

I don't think Junior was always meant to be evil, but that would be better than making him a total imbecile. Another dumb moment in this episode is when Jake overhears them talking through the door and just walks away. Baffling choices.

by Anonymousreply 436November 26, 2021 6:04 PM

I'm enjoying the show but it's odd how every actor, even the doll. are better actors than the main guy.

by Anonymousreply 437November 26, 2021 6:33 PM

R437, by "main guy" do you mean the guy who plays ANDY or the guy who plays JAKE?

Because they're both terrible.

I love how ZACKARY and ALIVIA are the main actors.

Total GenZ spelling of names. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 438November 26, 2021 7:19 PM

Really the younger actors are nothing special except for maybe Lexy. Oh and one playing teenage Charles Lee Ray was good with what they gave him.

The Dourif's have been really good. Fiona did some impressive work in particular. Jennifer Tilly is always entertaining. Devon Sawa did the best he could with his one dementional characters. Lexa Doig gave a competent, heartfelt performance. And Barbara Allyn Woods was effective as Lexy's narcissist mother.

by Anonymousreply 439November 26, 2021 7:44 PM

I like seeing Alex Vincent back for nostalgic reasons since he played Andy in the first two, but I won't deny that he can't really act anymore. Luckily his role isn't big enough that it detracts from the show, though. It has me curious how Justin Whalin from Child's Play 3 would've done as adult Andy. But he hasn't acted since 2009 and Alex Vincent also reprised his role in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, so it wouldn't make sense to bring him back now.

by Anonymousreply 440November 26, 2021 7:56 PM

The lead kid actor is absolutely terrible.

by Anonymousreply 441November 27, 2021 4:40 AM

R440 He's retired from acting according to Wikipedia. That's why he hasn't done any movies or shows since 2009.

[quote]Whalin quit acting in 2009 and now is working as a social studies teacher and administrator of "The Learning Castle & La Cañada Preparatory", an exclusive school in Los Angeles area.

So Alex Vincent it is and will always be (unless they kill the character in the finale of season 1 or any possible future seasons/movies).

by Anonymousreply 442November 27, 2021 1:13 PM

I'm kind of shocked they killed off Devon Sawa.

Now WHAT??!!

All the kids are orphans?

by Anonymousreply 443November 27, 2021 1:16 PM

I think both of Lexy’s parents will die in the finale. Everyone seems only focused on the mom, but it would just be weird to have her dad be the only parent survivor.

by Anonymousreply 444November 27, 2021 1:35 PM

I think the twist will be that the emasculated dad will kill his wife, Lexy's mom. And Chucky's killing spree will be swept under the rug for season one, blaming everybody else but Chucky for the murders that happened so far since that it is the better and more comfortable solution for the town than admitting a killing doll (or a whole army of them? Or are they for the second season?) is on the loose and murdering people.

by Anonymousreply 445November 27, 2021 2:42 PM

" I'm enjoying the show but it has lots of problems. "

I really like the show too, but there are SO many problems that need to be ironed out if they get a second season. This makes me wonder why they haven't announced something by now. It looks like the show is getting at least half a million viewers between the 2 networks, so I guess it's doing well.

The final episode is almost 90 minutes, but there is so much to wrap up in that amount of time. What about the teacher? Why did they decide to build up Jake and Lexy's relationship instead of his relationship with Devon? Why did they kill off almost all of the parents?

I'm not sure if Andy is gonna make it out alive. I wouldn't be surprised if something happened to him like what happens to the character of Dick Hallorann in the film version of "The Shining".

I also feel like Chucky and Junior are going to kill everyone and Jake will be blamed for everything. I just hope we get a decent ending. I wasn't worried about the first few episodes, but have always been worried about the ending due to some of Mancini's missteps in the past. Fingers crossed that I'm proved wrong.

by Anonymousreply 446November 28, 2021 4:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 451November 30, 2021 3:48 AM

I think Andy might be a goner tonight. Alex Vincent’s posts gives a subtle impression that he won’t be back.

by Anonymousreply 452November 30, 2021 3:48 AM

SyFy had another Chucky marathon late last night, and I forgot how much I liked episode one.

Not a fan of Billie Eilish, but they featured a quite a bit of her music. I really like the song (not Eilish) "This is how villains are made..."

I had to laugh when I saw the name of Jake's dad's company: "L & L Lube."

Haha. Oh, you cheeky little Don Manicini.

OK, just finished watching it. Crazy finale. I'll keep it spoiler free for now - but what was up with Kyle dressed all Janet Jackson circa Rhythm Nation?

by Anonymousreply 456December 1, 2021 3:12 AM

Getting stabbed in the ass probably doesn't kill that fast. Meh I liked Tiffany in this but everything else felt like a let down and ended far too neatly. Also what happened to it being 90 minutes?

by Anonymousreply 457December 1, 2021 3:16 AM

who said it was supposed to be 90 minutes?

by Anonymousreply 458December 1, 2021 3:19 AM

I mean if you count this after show thing I suppose its technically right. Personally I'd have preferred another 20 minutes of Chucky, Tiff, Nica and Junior being hilariously evil family together. Was the most I was entertained all episode.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 459December 1, 2021 3:26 AM

R458, it was promoted via Twitter that the finale would be a special 90 min episode. It was more like a 1hr 10 min episode, plus some behind the scenes interviews. It actually ended several minutes short of 11:30 when they started another airing of Clash of the Titans.

by Anonymousreply 460December 1, 2021 4:23 AM

^ that said, the commercial breaks seemed relatively brief compared to most other shows these days, so there appeared to be more total actual show time than commercial time over the course of the episode itself.

by Anonymousreply 461December 1, 2021 4:28 AM

Andy was pretty lucky Junior had already made himself an orphan. If an actual parent had wandered in to se a bearded man in the bathroom with their 14 year old son and reaching in to his bathwater then Andy would have been in prison quicker than you can say Chris Hansen and Chucky would have had a much easier time.

by Anonymousreply 462December 1, 2021 5:42 AM

Interesting. I didn't know the actors for Jake and Lexy knew each other for years

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 463December 1, 2021 6:09 AM

I guess that does explain why half the time it felt like Jake and Lexi had more chemistry than he did with Devon

Anyway I guess enough time has passed for spoilers. After all that build-up the only important characters to die are Junior who they had to kill off since there was no way he could stick around after killing his dad and Chucky losing, and maybe Kyle its very unclear since that explosion that took out an entire house was so weak Andy who was stood right next to it survived, and that whole obvious fakeout thing of making you think Andy and Devon are dead was ridiculous. But it might have taken out Kyle even though she was further away. Everyone just sort of seemed to forget about her.

Junior as a character by the end of this made fuck all sense which is annoying since Teo Briones is with Alyvia Lind were the better actors of the 4, and why they had him doing nothing for 7 and a half episodes is confusing since like I said he was pretty fun when he was on team murder. Junior was loving being evil until about 30 seconds before he died but apparently his passionless relationship with a girl who definitely cheated on him was enough to bring him back. This is despite the fact 10 minutes before he was quite happily leaving his friend to get blown up, and for some reason they ignored they already had a perfectly good reason for him to switch back since Chucky killed his mom.

That final Tiffany Nica scene may be the darkest thing this franchise has ever done she might actually be worse than Chucky now, and I'm glad Tiff doll made an appearance before the end. Its weird we didn't see Glen/da though now I think about it.

Anyway overall I'll give the series 7/10 I enjoyed it there's plenty to keep you watching but there were massive pacing issues. Zacks confirmed he's in 2 so sounds its a straight up sequel rather than an anthology so least we'll get to see everyone again.

by Anonymousreply 464December 1, 2021 11:03 AM

I wonder how much of the episode was cut, feels like there are probably a lot of deleted scenes that would of helped with pacing.

by Anonymousreply 465December 1, 2021 1:49 PM

How convenient that no one thought to use their phone to get video evidence of Chucky.

"No one will believe you!" worked in the 80s, 90s, and 00s, but nowadays it's fairly easy to get video evidence of something, especially when you have more than enough opportunities to.

Hell, I bet that movie theater alone has CCTV inside and out.

by Anonymousreply 466December 1, 2021 2:38 PM

My new favorite line: "Kill the TWINK!"

Rofl!

So Chucky got fucked by guys too, huh? As Nica, of course. But that was an interesting little twist.

[quote] Getting stabbed in the ass probably doesn't kill that fast

I was wondering about that. Chucky really is a twisted little shit.

And yeah R462, the scene between Andy and Junior in the house was.... unusual.

I won't say any more.

[quote] That final Tiffany Nica scene may be the darkest thing this franchise has ever done

The question and answer scene between Chucky and the Chucky Army was pretty dark.

"Can we kill babies?" I was like, wtf??

Then Chucky said "No one under five or six." Lol.

I'd say that was pretty dark.

by Anonymousreply 467December 1, 2021 3:34 PM

Nica's ending is a total ripoff of Boxing Helena (a movie most famous for Kim Basinger bailing and being replaced by Twin Peak's Sherylinn Fenn).

by Anonymousreply 468December 1, 2021 3:59 PM

Overall I liked the ending. The gay lead was a total badass at the end. I was surprised how Junior turned from wet blanket into an actual character. Well played.

Love the dark humor of the show. I mean, the whole movie theater massacre surely is a big fuck you from the direct-to-video (these days direct-to-streaming) franchise, right?

by Anonymousreply 469December 1, 2021 4:03 PM

I hope Kyle is ok. I'd hate for her to go out in such an undignified way. Since we didn't see her being blown away from the house or a shot of her charred corpse, I'm assuming she could still be alive.

And what was with the teacher at the graveyard with the three main kids at the end? Is she their guardian now? Could she be Glen/Glenda?

by Anonymousreply 470December 1, 2021 5:35 PM

The news alert about the explosion specifically mentions fatalities, as in several casualties. So, at least two people should be dead. But, other than Kyle, all turned out to have survived. Who are the ones who have been found dead? Corpses buried in the basement or in a wall?

by Anonymousreply 471December 1, 2021 5:42 PM

So is Kyle dead?

I'm glad Andy is alive.

You can't kill off the kid who started this whole show.

Plus, he's a gay. So he has to live.

I hope he finds a boyfriend in season two. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 472December 1, 2021 5:48 PM

They must've known season 2 was coming all along ending the season on a big cliffhanger like that. I'm starting to agree with the people who said something's not right with that teacher woman. The way she quietly stood staring in the cemetery at the end. Perhaps she really is Glenda in a human body. If so, whoever's Glen may show up next season.

I was more disappointed by who didn't die than who did. None of the deaths were really shocking except maybe Kyle, but we're not 100% sure if she's really even dead so she doesn't count. None of the big characters like Tiffany/Jennifer, Andy, Nica, Lexy, Jake, or Devon. I sort of expected Junior to die so I wasn't really shocked by that.

by Anonymousreply 473December 1, 2021 6:12 PM

The thing about the army of Chucky dolls, is that they can take this show in a million different directions.

They don't have to bring back Jake, Devon, and Lexy.

It can be a completely new and different storyline, in a completely different city, with completely different characters.

Because of the number of Chucky dolls that are in the back of that truck, this series could potentially last a VERY long time.

I think it was such a smart plot point to use, for the continuance of the series.

by Anonymousreply 474December 1, 2021 6:33 PM

Wait, the Andy character is gay?

by Anonymousreply 475December 1, 2021 6:57 PM

R475 The character may not be (though they've never mentioned or shown anything about his sexuality) but the actor definitely seems like he is.

by Anonymousreply 476December 1, 2021 6:59 PM

I would've had Junior already in the bath when Andy arrived!

Kyle is alive. It was her hand in the glove at the tree at the end.

Lol R477.

Junior was looking like a tasty piece of chicken in this episode!

R479 I thought that part was rather obvious. After drugging 2 out of 3 kids

I guess the multiple fatalities were the neighbors on both sides of Ray's house.

Yes.

That was established way back at R69.

by Anonymousreply 487December 1, 2021 8:07 PM

I had thought Jon Jon Briones was gay because all the other warlocks in AHS: Apocalypse were played by out gay actors and he was the only one I wasn't familiar with.

I knew she wouldn't, R492.

That character was too valuable.

She's great. Clueless. Annoying. Bossy. Delusional. Phony. Yet she has an endearing personality.

You can't get rid of a character like that.

by Anonymousreply 493December 1, 2021 8:45 PM

Those theater deaths didn’t make any sense. An ass stabbing wouldn’t kill that fast, the dad didn’t scream or anything. And what was with those bodies with blood coming out of their chests? I thought he was stabbing from the bottom?

by Anonymousreply 494December 1, 2021 8:46 PM

I really thought Chucky was going to run over and kill her when she was stuck on the floor and kept getting hit by the people running away.

by Anonymousreply 496December 1, 2021 9:21 PM

That Caroline girl sure is weird. She really didn’t notice her dead dad, and everyone, including her mom, screaming and running away.

It was so odd that the Tiffany doll only made a 30 second cameo in the season finale. Were there issues with the rights to feature her outside of archival footage and they couldn't afford to have her play a bigger part in the series?

I'm not sure if the science teacher is Glenda. Since she's seems to be a genuinely good person and Glenda is evil. Although there is the possibility that she might be Tiffany's estranged younger sister.

Also Alex Vincent isn't gay. He has a girlfriend. I checked his Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 500December 2, 2021 4:11 AM

Reading some twitter threads, looks like a lot of people are upset about what Tiffany did to Nica and are calling Don Mancini out for it.

by Anonymousreply 501December 2, 2021 4:20 AM

I know it's just good acting but my heart broke when I saw what Tiffany did to Nica. That girl has been through a whole lot worse than Andy.

I don't want them to kill Nica off but death might be better for the character than to have her live the rest of her life suffering with no limbs and severe psychological trauma if they ever manage to free her of Chucky's possession.

by Anonymousreply 502December 2, 2021 5:47 AM

Yeah, Nica has been through hell and back. I bet she wishes she were dead. I'm not sure where there going to go with her character now after this. Fiona really played the hell out of what she was given though. I wish they didn't further limit what she can do.

by Anonymousreply 503December 2, 2021 6:48 AM

r501 Don Mancini should be called out for what he did to that character. 1st of all it wasn't a surprise I saw it coming a mile away and it was cruel for no reason.

r488 Teo can Paints his nails multiple colors and can put his leg behind his head, I'm pretty sure gay runs in that family.

r424

Too much of the show's plot revolved around Junior being a blithering idiot. The fact that he wouldn't suspect that Chucky murdered his mother is unbelievable in the extreme. Also they never explained his hatred for his cousin.

by Anonymousreply 504December 2, 2021 1:06 PM

[quote] Also they never explained his hatred for his cousin.

He blamed him for the bad that happened to his family. He loved the maid, who practically raised him, and his mom and both died after Jake joined his family. Of course, it was not rational, but on some level understandable that Junior lashed out not being able to cope with the losses. Of course, Junior completely ignored, or didn't even humor the thought, that Chucky could be behind all the deaths.

It's like with the current political climate. Deplorables not blaming their own overlords for the trouble they have caused (like, creating the anti vaxxer movement where people insisted that COVID-19 is a hoax and the official cure is bad, because it comes from the Deep State run by Liberal Nazis), but focus all of their frustration on the Libs.

by Anonymousreply 505December 2, 2021 1:30 PM

[quote] He blamed him for the bad that happened to his family.

Actually, Junior started attacking Jake from the very beginning of the first episode, before the murders started.

I think the character is poorly written, because his personality is all over the place.

He starts off the series by making "gay" comments about Jake at the dinner table. Then he goes to school, and tells Lexy to be nice to Jake. Then later, he's an asshole again. I never understood if I was supposed to be sympathetic towards him, or not.

Even at the end of the eight episodes, I still couldn't figure out if I liked Junior, or not. He was pressured by his dad, his mom died, yet he still acted like an asshole towards Jake, and he also killed his dad.

So is he good? Is he bad? Is he misunderstood? And then they kill him off.

If I have one criticism about the show, this is probably the one.

by Anonymousreply 506December 2, 2021 1:36 PM

[quote] Actually, Junior started attacking Jake from the very beginning of the first episode, before the murders started.

Their fathers are twins and both of them are total dicks to their kids. For me the scene was showcasing how different the kids express the pressure they experience from their dads. Jake just shuts down while Junior is a passive-aggressive dick towards Jake. Maybe it even was foreshadowing who would join Chucky on the dark side.

However, I do agree that Junior needed more scenes with Chucky and how their relationship started and developed to the point he wasn't fazed by a Good Guy doll being a supernatural serial killer. Scenes that could've spelled it out for us that Junior wants to be a singer instead of whatever career his dad wanted for him.

by Anonymousreply 507December 2, 2021 2:34 PM

Also, I really didn’t buy Junior’s love for Lexy. That just seemed off.

by Anonymousreply 508December 2, 2021 2:41 PM

Lexy was as bossy as his dad. Junior was pretty much a pushover until he met Chucky.

by Anonymousreply 509December 2, 2021 2:50 PM

I’m glad Devon survived. That kiss scene with Jake after he found out he was alive was really beautiful. That was my favorite part of the finale.

by Anonymousreply 510December 2, 2021 2:50 PM

I think his main issue by the end is he's completely isolated. When Jake was dealing with Chucky he at least had Devon. But by the time Chucky starts manipulating Junior Devon and Lexi are with Jake and he feels completely isolated, and by the time he rage kills his dad he's already in too deep. There's a scene where he first see's Tiffany and Chucky hugging in the basement that he pulls a face which I took to mean he'd suddenly realised, but then he pretty much gets semi adopted by Tiffany and Nica . I don't know before he died he was the character I was most interested in. The massive gaps in characterisation and trying to fill in the gaps might be part of that. But I can't tell if that was intentional or 90% of his scenes got cut.

by Anonymousreply 511December 2, 2021 2:56 PM

Junior is one of the worst written characters on TV this year. At the beginning he seemed to be jealous of Jake's relationship with Devon and tried to cock block it every chance he got. He couldn't perform sexually with Lexi so it's no wonder so many fans thought he was closeted. I think Teo Briones play Junior as gay anyway. Perhaps the writers changed there minds on going in that direction.

The "Junior was isolated"theory only makes sense if he had never heard of chucky. He was warned about a killer doll by his friends and he knew that since chucky had been around murders had been happening and yet after his mother dies and he still doesn't suspect Chucky as the murderer?

Jake told him point blank that Bree didn't kill herself. Also when did he accept that Chucky was alive? One day he doesn't believe in chucky and the next day he's Chucky's partner in crime.

Logan put a lot of pressure on Junior but he still was shown to be a loving father.

by Anonymousreply 512December 2, 2021 3:36 PM

[quote] Logan put a lot of pressure on Junior but he still was shown to be a loving father.

I saw that more of a grooming strategy of making it look like it was Junior's choice to stick with athletics. "Sure, you can say no! Don't mind my crestfallen face and the disappointment I'm going to feel for the rest of my life!".

by Anonymousreply 513December 2, 2021 3:43 PM

Him rage killing Logan is the only part of the descent in to madness I have no issue with. He clearly felt controlled by the man to the extent he had to use Chucky in this scene to say everything to him he felt he couldn't, he also blames him for his mothers "suicide" because of the affair. That's clearly a stupid belief but since Chucky is the only person he's talking to I'll chalk it up to psychotic break and manipulation and remember Chucky is meant to be very manipulative (certainly some actual scenes of them interacting before this would be helpful since you just have to infer everything at this point) so you have a lonely teenage boy with everyone who he actually likes either dying or ignoring him, a convincing cult leader and the only voice of descent is from 2 people he now actively hates.

by Anonymousreply 526December 5, 2021 6:55 PM

Did the series explained the relationship between Logan and Tiffany?

Why blood came out from the Lexy dad mouth despite he was stabbed in the ass?

Will Junior and Oliver reappeared again as age-inappropriate twink couple?

by Anonymousreply 527December 6, 2021 6:54 AM

There was no relationship between Logan and Tiffany.

by Anonymousreply 528December 6, 2021 2:36 PM

WTF? It's called acting.

by Anonymousreply 534December 6, 2021 5:59 PM

Been busy, just watched the last episode. Gotta say, I don't think Mancini has quite figured out how to structure a TV show. I felt there was too much filler in the previous episodes, while the finale felt rushed in parts yet slack in other parts. Some of that is down to the director and the actors. Hopefully they crack the pacing in the second season.

That said, I definitely enjoyed the show. Let's be real, this franchise started out a little goofy and only got nuttier over the years. It's not like I was expecting a meticulous Hitchcockian thriller.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that no one was killed by that sad-looking CGI explosion. The characters probably just rolled to disbelieve.

Really thought Andy was going to die and Kyle would be set up as the mentor figure, just because I get the impression Alex Vincent isn't really trying to have an acting career. I also thought there would turn out to be some significance to Lexy's dad being the same actor from Cult of Chucky. I did call the army of Chuckys, but that was kind of obvious.

Man, poor Nica.

by Anonymousreply 535December 6, 2021 6:07 PM
