Two Of Fran Drescher’s ‘Nanny’ Co-Stars Backing Rival Matthew Modine in the SAG-AFTRA Presidential Race!

Why don't they support our Fran?

Is there tea about Fran's relationship with her costars from "The Nanny"?

If you've heard any tea, spill it here, pronto!

Mr. Sheffield, How Dare You! Gracie, eh...the kid had problem. Et tu, MA!

"A third former cast member, Renee Taylor, is backing Fisher in her race to become the union’s next secretary-treasurer, but is remaining neutral in the presidential race. (Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said that she was backing Modine.) None of them, however, said anything negative about Drescher or her running mate."

Yetta Rosenbloom has not yet endorsed a candidate.

"Listen, my husband likes to have a lot of sex so I don't have much time to study the issues."

"Plus, our condo in Miami collapsed, so gimme a break."

by Anonymousreply 1July 24, 2021 10:53 AM

How awkward! Is it normal for SAG members to endorse candidiasis or is this seen as a major slap in the face to Fran? She seems very close to the cast members; they seem to meet up from time to time, and Charles even guest starred on Happily Divorced. What gives? Maybe it really isn’t personal, but if so, why say anything.

by Anonymousreply 2July 24, 2021 10:54 AM

Wasn't Fran, or at least her ex-husband, the boss? If so, she wasn't just a co-star, and this is probably a smackdown for poor treatment (on the set, in the paycheck, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 5July 24, 2021 10:58 AM

Zima has been airing grievances about her experience on The Nanny for years now. Her stance seems more personal. I’m surprised about Shaugnessy. That’s a blow to the legacy of the show which is doing well on HBO MAX. Even if this isn’t personal and just business, I’m sure Fran doesn’t feel that way.

by Anonymousreply 6July 24, 2021 10:59 AM

[quote]In college, a friend thought I looked like him.

Fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 7July 24, 2021 11:00 AM

I don't believe it's personal. It's normal for supporters to publicly show their support for their candidate. They did it via video, but it would have turned up on the election material too as signatures of support are also included. Modine and Joely Fisher have long been involved with the union and on the boards. I don't recall ever hearing about Drescher being actively involved.

by Anonymousreply 8July 24, 2021 11:00 AM

R19 It's "spill the beans", isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 20July 24, 2021 11:50 AM

R20, I Googled it. Apparently it is new. It originated from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil where a character called Lady Chablis says spill the T. The T in this instance meaning the truth. It evolved into tea and has been around in that form since 2018. It all sounds like rubbish to me, but sensible rubbish. Anyway, caftan talk. As I self loathe the self disrespect part of me, I try to shun caftan talk.

[quote]Zima has been airing grievances about her experience on The Nanny for years now. Her stance seems more personal.

Yeah, she’s made it clear she did not enjoy her time on the set and has talked about how Fran made a lot of money from that show (hinting that she didn’t make as much as she thought she should have).

The others however I am surprised aren’t supporting her. Maybe she isn’t as sweet as we think.

by Anonymousreply 22July 24, 2021 12:02 PM

R33, Matthew played the lead in the Netflix show "Operation Varsity Blues" about the college admissions scandal that involved Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman.

The show was good - better than I expected - but Modine was almost unrecognizable as Rick Singer with a terrible gray bowl cut that was apparently Singer's trademark hair style

I'm a SAG member and I'm voting for Modine as well. He's been in the trenches fighting for us for a long time.

Fran Drescher & Anthony Rapp are good people but quite frankly it seems as if their candidacy is more about name recognition & wokeness instead of actual union issues.

by Anonymousreply 39July 24, 2021 1:20 PM

I love Fran, but I am also voting for Modine. Like many, I have been very concerned about our union for awhile now. I think Modine is the best person for the job.

by Anonymousreply 40July 24, 2021 1:26 PM

Well said, R39

I'm not an actor, but based on what I read, actors are really struggling.

A couple of decades ago, actors could make a decent living doing small parts and working as character actors - but that's not true anymore.

Now the stars are influencers who create their own content with their phones.

SAG-AFTRA needs some real vision and leadership now.

by Anonymousreply 41July 24, 2021 1:29 PM

But Fran would probably throw a Hella Victory party!

She loves the gays..

by Anonymousreply 42July 24, 2021 1:31 PM

From the Deadline comments:

Charles Shaughnessy and Renee Taylor are both former Membership First SAG board members from the Alan Rosenberg years. Madeline Zima also attempted to run for the SAG board with Membership First but was disqualified at the last minute.

So, former Membership First board members and candidates endorse Membership First ticket. Shocking.

What’s more interesting is that Drescher Specifically chose not to run with Membership First, in spite of Shaughnessy and Taylor’s deep connections to that group. That’s more telling.

by Anonymousreply 43July 24, 2021 1:32 PM

[quote]Now the stars are influencers who create their own content with their phones.

Like, my mom told me to read up on SAG but I was videoing myself using some new makeup palettes...

and like, you and dad already fucked up my life by forcing me to go to USC

so just go do your jail time and leave me alone!

by Anonymousreply 44July 24, 2021 1:36 PM

I looked it up. Zima said working on the Nanny wasn’t a fun experience. Shame on Drescher.

“There were other experiences on other sets where people treated me kindly. I worked when I was 5 years old on The Hand That Rocks The Cradle and everybody was wonderful to work with on that set. People treated me as they should have — because I was a child.”

“There was just a kindness and a sensitivity that didn’t exist on the set of The Nanny. They treated me more like a prop than like a human being. At a certain point I can’t pretend like it was some great experience anymore,” she said.

by Anonymousreply 45July 24, 2021 1:43 PM

Wow, tell it Gracie!

Sounds like there are some good stories there.

Zima needs to do a movie about her experiences as a child actor.

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2021 1:46 PM

I know who I'm voting for!

by Anonymousreply 47July 24, 2021 1:46 PM

Apparently there are some big proposed cuts to health insurance and other benefits for SAG-AFTRA union members that Matthew Modine and the other Membership First faction has already been working to defeat...

That sounds like a much more immediate and related need that Drescher's campaign that she said would focus on "diversity and eco awareness.”

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2021 1:51 PM

Is this Zima person named after that weird womanly alcoholic drink, was it an endorsement baby naming thing?

by Anonymousreply 49July 24, 2021 1:52 PM

[quote]Is this Zima person named after that weird womanly alcoholic drink, was it an endorsement baby naming thing?

by Anonymousreply 50July 24, 2021 1:55 PM

This is why I support Modine.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 51July 24, 2021 1:57 PM

As some comments have demonstrated, it sounds as though Modine is the better person for the job, and his goals are aligned with theirs.

Not everything is a popularity contest.

Having said that, I think they both look great.

by Anonymousreply 52July 24, 2021 2:00 PM

So apparently Gabrielle Carteris did run the SAG-AFTRA union into the ground

in addition to being a 116 year-old woman

and she "decided" not to run for re-election after widespread protests

by Anonymousreply 53July 24, 2021 2:00 PM

But I wanted to show Danny Imperialli that he made a BIG mistake by firing me from the Bridal Boutique and breaking our engagement and marrying that tramp Heather Biblow...

so vote for me!

by Anonymousreply 56July 24, 2021 2:50 PM

After reading that Modine actually cares about important issues, and Fran is just into wokeness, I am team Modine!

by Anonymousreply 57July 24, 2021 2:56 PM

I'm all for diversity and inclusion, but it doesn't mean shit if your health care coverage and contracts suck. I just hope people understand if Modine wins, he's not going to be able to walk into the role and fix everything overnight.

by Anonymousreply 58July 24, 2021 3:05 PM

Charles Shaughnessy still has a big chest and huge muscles.

by Anonymousreply 59July 24, 2021 3:07 PM

R59 But how are his clams?

by Anonymousreply 60July 24, 2021 3:20 PM

Anthony Rapp is a pompous self righteous bully on social media. It’s not uncommon to unleash his “ fans” on user for tweeting something that upsets him.

Hope he loses but I love Fran though.

by Anonymousreply 61July 24, 2021 3:24 PM

I met Matthew Modine once, when he was a hottie back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 62July 24, 2021 3:30 PM

[quote]I'm all for diversity and inclusion, but it doesn't mean shit if your health care coverage and contracts suck. I just hope people understand if Modine wins, he's not going to be able to walk into the role and fix everything overnight.

What the SAG-AFTRA membership have a hard time accepting is that unless members are willing to strike, they won't get an improvement over contracts and their health coverage. There are members to this day who say they never recovered from the 2000 strike.

Studio management has always played hardball which is why their have only been meager improvement on rates to the contracts. The Trustees of the Health Fund - made up of SAG-AFTRA leadership, as well as studio labor relations - have to worry about the financial health of the Fund so they're not going to make any concessions and give relief in regards to the increased premiums.

by Anonymousreply 63July 24, 2021 3:38 PM

Health care is a human right in all developed countries except for the US. Fuck Biden, Hillary and Obama for only caring about money.

by Anonymousreply 64July 24, 2021 3:41 PM

R37 I agree. Tell that to Buddy Ebsen who campaigned against Nancy Kulp who was running for congress in Pennsylvania. Plus, as a British Aristocrat I think Lord Charles, the Baron Shaughnessy should butt out.

by Anonymousreply 65July 24, 2021 3:50 PM

R65 Sometimes the classiest thing one can do is simply be silent. That's what I respect most about "Jackie on Assistance." She could have written books and been on any number of talks shows had she wanted to exploit her family and tragedies.

by Anonymousreply 66July 24, 2021 3:54 PM

[quote]Madeline Zima also attempted to run for the SAG board with Membership First but was disqualified at the last minute.

Do you know why? I'm just curious, I tried to find the answer online but nothing came up.

by Anonymousreply 69July 24, 2021 3:59 PM

I’d also read scuttlebutt that Fran has not been very engaged with SAG AFTRA. People were shocked that she’s running.

My closest friend and I are constantly having policy disagreements. He's still my best friend.

by Anonymousreply 75July 24, 2021 4:20 PM

I’m a member. It’s odd that our membership cards expire in 6 months and they send you a new one. Maybe they consider that a way to ensure your dues stay current, but it seems really wasteful. It’s a small concern relative to health and pension policy, I know.

by Anonymousreply 76July 24, 2021 4:21 PM

AFTRA's membership cards were paper and printed in-house, but I think for legacy SAG and the new merger that wouldn't fly. It seems too low rent.

They should reboot this show focusing on Val, Fran's best friend.

Val Toriello was always the more interesting and relatable character and according to Google she was last working at a Krispy Kreme:

by Anonymousreply 121July 27, 2021 8:34 PM

I remember someone on DL claimed that "Membership First" was a Republican wing of SAG, but perhaps he was mistaking non-Status Quo types for being Republican? But I do know that Esai Morales said he was considering voting for Trump in 2016 (he was really angry about something).

by Anonymousreply 122July 30, 2021 8:13 PM

[quote]But I do know that Esai Morales said he was considering voting for Trump in 2016

He probably did vote for him. He's a anti-masker and anti-vaxxer.

MembershipFirst are the hardliners. Prior to merger they were the slate that opposed merger because they felt AFTRA purposely undercut SAG contracts. They also think that they have more power than they do in negotiations yet never have a true path forward to get the gains they are seeking, just bloviating on how things should be.

I do not miss the days of Deadline Hollywood Daily when Nikki Finke still owned it. The Membership First crazies like Justine Bateman, Matt Mulhern, Anne-Marie Johnson and crazy ass Frances Fisher made the comments section so rancorous.

by Anonymousreply 123July 30, 2021 8:39 PM

Modine is hung like a horse. Has anyone mentioned that yet?

by Anonymousreply 124July 30, 2021 8:40 PM

Shaughnessy and Fran are friends. They've appeared together multiple times since The Nanny.

I don't blame Madeline for not having great memories, and she's never called Fran out by name. After the first few years, the kids WERE props. They barely had any lines or plot relevance (I rewatched during lockdown). She said on this podcast (which I very much recommend for anyone interested in child actors) that she was up for Lohan's role in the Parent Trap but it would've required her to miss a handful of days on the Nanny set. The show wouldn't let her go. I'd be pissed too. They would've been fine without her

Thanks for sharing that link r125. Sadly though, like many podcasts I've heard, the hosts talk over the guests way too much. If you want to do most of the talking on your podcast, don't invite guests on.

I felt she did hint at least twice about sitcom starts acting horribly towards others on the set. I could see Fran being that type. She even refers to that Michelle from Glee, but claimed to not remember her name. Honestly, the not remembering her name seemed a bit Mariahish to me.

by Anonymousreply 126July 31, 2021 1:41 PM

[quote]After the first few years, the kids WERE props. They barely had any lines or plot relevance (I rewatched during lockdown).

The first two seasons are the best. It's a quirky family comedy with an eccentric female lead. There was also something low budget about it that made it enduring.

Seasons 3-4 aren't bad, but you can tell it was a hit by then The guest stars start becoming bigger names and Fran goes from wearing cutesy trashy outfits to designer, high end couture. The kids also do take a backseat to everything else.

After the engagement, it goes downhill. And it should have ended with the wedding. Even Charles admitted in a recent interview that he fought hard for the wedding to be the finale of the show.

by Anonymousreply 127July 31, 2021 2:54 PM

R127, they dragged the will they/won’t they shit our way too long as it was. The fourth season with the “he took it back!” is interminable. The problem was they didn’t plan for interesting stories when they got together. They could’ve helped Fran start a real career, become self-actualized, etc. it’s like they let their fear that this was the core of the show sabotage it.

by Anonymousreply 128July 31, 2021 3:38 PM

[quote]Nowadays any asshole who unpacks boxes on a Youtube channel can join SAG via the New Media.

In 2017 they went back and made it more difficult to Taft-Hartley yourself in via a New Media production. There was a rush of people for a couple of years that did old New Media SAG Eligible productions prior to 2017 running to find their old paperwork since they didn't qualify under the readjusted terms.

(Also consider that outside of ultra low budget projects, many of these YouTubers are part of huge corporations as hosts and often get hired by them as talent who have acting backgrounds. They just try not to make it seem that way.)

Either way, they don't care if they pay their dues. They want that money.

by Anonymousreply 130July 31, 2021 3:58 PM

Some needs to remind Zima it was a television production, not a day care. If she were unhappy, it was her parents job to get it corrected and earn their cut of her check.

There goes the re-boot.

by Anonymousreply 131July 31, 2021 4:03 PM

Actually r131, she says her parents didn't take her money. They also had to pay out to hire guardians/nannies to go on to the sets with her and her two sisters, who at one time were all working.

She said when she was 18 and got her hands on her money, she bought a house in Valencia. She said she lost money on it. Looking at an LA map, this seems to be the equivalent of Hicksville, Long Island. Maybe the LA DLers know something interesting about Valencia.

by Anonymousreply 132July 31, 2021 4:28 PM

Is Zima going to have kids and name them White Claw and Skinnygirl Margarita?

She was on that show the entire time and she only made enough money to live in Valencia?😳 Not even enough to buy a home in the Valley? Wow, I’d be pissed too! Sad that on top of all that she lost money on the house.

Or "It was the flashy girl from Flushing."

by Anonymousreply 150August 1, 2021 7:30 AM

I'm not surprised to hear that THE NANNY wasn't a particularly "fun" or happy set. Few sets are for child actors.... but there was also some tense, behind-the-scenes stuff that happened on THE NANNY which was not widely known at the time (because someone at Sony/CBS was doing their job )

During the second season, TPTB closed the tapings to live audiences because Fran had a loony stalker who had found his way onto the Sony lot one afternoon, and was apprehended by security near her dressing room/trailer. That made her question just who exactly was coming to their tapings every Friday night. (and given her history, you could hardly blame her!)

They essentially hired a "professional audience" for the next three years (until the final season, when they opened it back up to general audiences). A group of 20-30 screened/paid extras (via casting agencies) would watch the live taping....and then their laughter was "sweetened" to make them sound like a studio audience of 150+ people. So there was heightened sense of "this is not normal" for the kids?

And then, by the time it got to the third season (and was really a HIT)....Fran had written Enter Whining. And had become a STAH! She & Peter were appearing on Oprah & such, but there was some weird shit there, too An abnormally close relationship with Robbie Schwartz one of their young writers' assistants. (He was the good-looking Israeli guy at the end of The Kibbutz episode) It seemed pretty clear to anyone with eyes that Fran was fucking Robbie, as her relationship with Peter was falling apart. Heard rumors that they were fucking openly when The Nanny cast took a cruise to film the 3rd Season finale, "Ship of Fran's" -- which made it tense & weird for all the cast members....as Peter & Fran were both their bosses.

Nobody was thinking about "the kids" (actors) and their "needs" by that point. Except maybe Charles Shaughnessy -- the only actor who had kids. I've heard from people associated with the show that Shaughnessy was the "glue" that held that cast together. The calm, consummate professional -- a truly nice person, loved by all. He almost has a Henry Winkler-esque reputation. You would be HARD PRESSED to find anyone with a negative word about him. (just ask any of his former DAYS co-stars; he is utterly adored)

by Anonymousreply 156August 1, 2021 12:15 PM

None of them wanted Fran and Max to get married, because they thought it would ruin the show. But CBS basically gave Drescher an ultimatum to either have them get married or they'd cancel the show. So she had them get married.

Charles and Fran have both said in retrospect that it was a huge mistake.

by Anonymousreply 157August 1, 2021 3:26 PM

Well, apparently Max and Fran are divorced and he got custody of Gracie.

by Anonymousreply 159August 1, 2021 4:05 PM

Matt Modine has a "secret weapon" in this race.

by Anonymousreply 160August 1, 2021 4:07 PM

I worked on The Nanny.

Fran and her husband controlled every aspect of production after the 3rd season. They literally nit picked over every single decision for every department.

Fran brought in Dorothy Lyman as the main director, Dorothy was a cunt. It was a bit much that Fran and Peter had their hands in everything, a bit suffocating. Fran and Renee were very close for a long time but I would guess that after the Nanny experience Renee might feel that Fran might be too controlling and not work well with others if she were given control of anything.

by Anonymousreply 161August 1, 2021 4:12 PM

Both Modine and Drescher have had great plastic surgery. They look terrific. i think Modine has never looked so good.

by Anonymousreply 162August 1, 2021 4:14 PM

Christ, Dorothy Lyman was married to John Tillinger? That would turn anyone into a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 163August 1, 2021 4:16 PM

r151 I worked the second season and that never happened.

We were on the Culver lot not the Sony lot.

[quote]An abnormally close relationship with Robbie Schwartz one of their young writers' assistants.

Charles was not much glue as he has a passive but stable personality.

Didn't she fire the original costume designer after the designer won an Emmy?

Someone on Ken Levine's blog once posted about working with her and said that she would demand all the funny lines to herself. When a writer would say that it wouldn't give the other actor much to do she would bark "Your Point?"

The 90's sure had some real divas of primetime TV.

by Anonymousreply 167August 1, 2021 10:11 PM

R167, I read that too. But watching the show, I feel like the laughs were pretty evenly divided.. I never felt like Fran got all the "good" jokes. It wasn't a Cybil situation.

by Anonymousreply 168August 1, 2021 10:22 PM

I agree, R168. All the funny lines seemed to be pretty evenly spread around the cast, not just Fran.

by Anonymousreply 169August 1, 2021 10:24 PM

R169, if anything, the best lines were reserved for (in descending order) Niles, CC and Val.

by Anonymousreply 170August 1, 2021 10:57 PM

It was probably a joke, sounds like something Fran Fine would say.. Everyone got funny lines.

by Anonymousreply 171August 2, 2021 12:28 AM

r161, I'm sure Dorothy Lyman learned the cuntiness from her years working with Vicki Lawrence. I know someone who worked with Vicki and was so disappointed in her behavior as he was a fan of hers since he was a gayling watching "The Carol Burnett Show."

I heard Renee Taylor has poor personal hygiene.

by Anonymousreply 176August 2, 2021 4:14 AM

I understood Fran to be very well liked by her castmates from "The Nanny", it's just that they're mostly non-working LA actors like that lunkhead Modine so they fall for his bullshit.

I'm a SAG-AFTRA member and I'm voting for Fran!

by Anonymousreply 177August 2, 2021 4:32 AM

[quote]I'm a SAG member and I'm voting for Modine as well. He's been in the trenches fighting for us for a long time.

He's either very dumb, or a shifty liar.

The last time the more right-wing Hollywood Membership First faction was in charge it was a disaster. They made a botch of everything, of course! Most actors barely work and only pay attention to changes that affect them should they actually book jobs. In other words they have a headlines only understanding of the issues at hand. i.e. dilettantes!

SAG the union does not run the Health & Pension Plan....at ALL. Neither Gabrielle Carteris nor Matthew Modine can "fix" it, but Modine can sure pretend he has the authority to do so. He doesn't.

$cientology keeps a much lower profile due all the scandals and exposes over the years

Kirstie and the other clams are no longer big stars and they don't attract major stars in Hollywood they way they once did

But the $cientology has so much money hidden away - they can still bring pressure to bear on the right people and get things done that matter to them

It’s weird that Zima now casts her time on the nanny negativity. She’s done the reunions and always seemed to get along with everyone.

I never heard anything about Dorothy Lyman being a cunt. I remember that a lot of people working on the show were happy that she got the show on a 4 day shooting schedule.

by Anonymousreply 217August 4, 2021 8:29 PM

R217 she hasn't mentioned it very often. She seems to be close to Shaughnessy and the other kids.

by Anonymousreply 218August 4, 2021 8:40 PM

r217, she said something in the podcast about having a mini panic attack before the Zoom thing they did during the pandemic. I think she said something like, she did it for the fans.

I know I lower my opinion of people who are too big to participate in reunions. Tina Louise, Nancy McKeon, Delta Burke, Justine Bateman, and let's not forget the biggest see you next Tuesday, Eve Plumb.

Zima also participated in the 2004 reunion special on lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 220August 4, 2021 9:35 PM

In the first season Gracie was the baby of the show and got featured a lot. She even had an imaginary friend and a therapist. Later on she became an afterthought. It must have hurt to be cast aside like that.

Rosie O'Donnell is supporting Fran for president, and Anthony Rapp for secretary-treasurer.

I know that Rosie and Fran have been friends for years, so I understand that endorsement, but I don't get the Rapp endorsement. I thought she was friends with Joely Fisher? Why is she jeopardizing her friendship with Joely over some guy who has zero chance of winning?

I think Rosie feels that Anthony has been given a bad Rapp.

I mean we all know Hanks has a dark and twisty side, but what exactly is Fran blackmailing him with to get the endorsement?

by Anonymousreply 245August 6, 2021 8:37 AM

Fran is going to lose because her campaign is lazy. The last time she was on Twitter was July 31st, while Modine tweets all day every day for his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 246August 6, 2021 8:40 AM

Is Modine channeling all his huckster manic energy from his last role as the College Scandal guy into this campaign? He strikes me as very method and holding onto the last character he played until the next one.

by Anonymousreply 247August 6, 2021 8:47 AM

I wonder if Tom Hanks is supporting Fran because he had to compete with Matthew Modine for roles in the 80s (and Modine won that round).

Unless you're a member of guild, R236 , I can't imagine why you'd give a fuck.

R249 Some people are simply interested. You don’t have to be directly involved in something to be interested in it.

by Anonymousreply 250August 6, 2021 11:13 AM

Yes, you're right, R250. There are multiple articles on Deadline & Hollywood Reporter about the election, and the differences between the SAG-factions. Maybe your Google is broken?

R248, Tom Hanks is a drunk. He is probably not even sober enough to remember whom he is supporting and for what. He likely thinks he's voting for who should play Nanny Fine's mother in the movie version of the reboot of The Nanny on Broadway.

[quote]This #SAGAFTRA election is critical. The short sighted selfish leadership that kicked 12K actors off their healthcare during a pandemic is unacceptable. Vote @MatthewModine @MsJoelyFisher to save our healthcare and our rights otherwise what’s the point of having a union?

If Modine and his slate wins his supporters are in for a rude awakening when they realize there is absolutely nothing they can do about changes to their Pension and Welfare Fund. The trustees are half studio labor relations - they're not going to change anything that will be detrimental to the Fund because as Trustees they are bound to ensure its financial strength.

The SAG-AFTRA Election Takes An Ugly Turn from LA Magazine

As the race for control of the nation’s biggest actors’ union turns increasingly volatile, Unite for Strength—the SAG-AFTRA ruling party supporting union presidential candidate Fran Drescher—is calling on Matthew Modine and his upstart MembershipFirst party to denounce the “rhetoric of hate” from unnamed Modine supporters on the union’s board whom the Uniters claim are cultists and racists. Members of Modine’s camp, meanwhile, have retaliated by threatening to sue their opponents over the allegations and denouncing Drescher for spreading what they claim are anti-vax and 5G conspiracy theories.

As Deadline reports, Unite for Strength fired the first salvo in the latest union skirmish with a tweet on Sunday that accused Modine supporters on the union’s board of various acts of malfeasance.

“We challenge Matthew Modine and MembershipFirst to publicly renounce and discontinue harboring the MF (MembershipFirst) Board members who denied George Floyd’s murder, amplified death threats, joined up with the NXIVM cult, threatened to shoot supporters of vaccination requirements, called the January 6th insurrection a ‘set up’ by ‘paid operators,’ falsely spread that Black Lives Matter is a hate group funded by George Soros, and voted against a task force to increase diversity in the stunt community. We condemn this rhetoric of hate.”

by Anonymousreply 278August 19, 2021 7:15 PM

From Backstage here's a list (not comprehensive) of celebrity endorsements for each candidate

Endorsing Fran Drescher:

Tom Hanks, Holland Taylor, Alec Baldwin, Rosario Dawson, and Debra Messing are among the actors who have endorsed Drescher.

Endorsing Matthew Modine:

Whoopi Goldberg, Liam Neeson, Diane Keaton, Mark Hamill, and George Takei are among the actors who have endorsed Modine.

by Anonymousreply 279August 20, 2021 8:39 AM

The Drescher side is heavily weighted with the ultra self righteous. I wouldn't have expected that.

by Anonymousreply 280August 20, 2021 8:44 AM

Matthew Modine has asked Anthony Rapp to join him at a town hall meeting for SAG members. Anthony has yet to respond but he doesn’t mind arguing with females like Joely Fisher and accusing her of lying.

Rapp is so cowardly and self righteous.

My parents had the E! channel during that election and they were obsessed with which candidate celebrities supported. All I can recall is that Melissa Joan Hart was supporting Melissa Gilbert due to the many hours of watching Little House On The Prairie in the childhood. “I loved her braids”, Melissa mused.

by Anonymousreply 282August 21, 2021 4:16 PM

I love how Modine added "I’m currently filming but will avail myself" to show that he was an actual working actor, unlike Rapp.

Also supporting Modine: Vincent D’Onofrio, Ed Asner, Mia Farrow, Ed Harris, Sharon Stone, Nick Nolte, Sean Astin, Jodi Long, Elliott Gould, Brad Garrett, Lisa Ann Walter, Frances Fisher, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Clancy Brown, Esai Morales, Patricia Arquette, Ellen Barkin, Shirley Jones, Jennifer Beals, Sandra Bernhard, Dyan Cannon, Margaret Cho, Neve Campbell, Linda Carter, Louis Gossett Jr., Shirley Jones, Bill Pullman, Rosie Perez, Elizabeth Perkins, Sally Struthers, David Alan Grier, George Stephanopoulos and Cindy Williams.

MJH is such an idiot so I’m not surprised. She probably also voted for her simply because they have the same first name.

Found it! On EW. Ballots went out Oct. 12 to Screen Actors Guild members to choose between ’70s TV staples Valerie Harper and Melissa Gilbert for union president. While the winner won’t be announced till Nov. 5, we asked some voters to weigh in.

CHRIS TUCKER ”The Little House on the Prairie girl because I liked that show.”

DAVID HASSELHOFF ”Melissa would be tough and Valerie would have the attitude, but neither can compete with the current president — my Knight Rider partner, William Daniels.”

ILLEANA DOUGLAS (Ghost World) ”I’d have to go with Rhoda. Valerie Harper’s a dancer, so she must have discipline.”

AMANDA BYNES (The Amanda Show) ”I’d go with Rhoda. Little House was so cliche and my dad used to make me read the books, so I’m a little bitter toward that whole show.”

MELISSA JOAN HART (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) ”Melissa Gilbert because Little House was more my generation — we all watched and wore our hair in braids.”

DANA DELANY (Pasadena) ”Rhoda would be the scrapper. And didn’t Valerie once play a mayor on TV? She already has some political experience.”

BRECKIN MEYER (Inside Schwartz) ”I’m a Laura Ingalls kind of guy and always have been. She’s naughty.”

CUBA GOODING JR. ”Valerie Harper. And if Rhoda wins, she might make us some waffles.”

MING-NA (ER) ”Melissa Gilbert. On Little House she was always so moral, had strong opinions, and believed in herself.”

GABRIELLE UNION (Bring It On) ”We need a Celebrity Death Match, but I’d give the edge to Valerie Harper.”

MARY-KATE OLSEN ”Ashley and I are child stars, so I like that Melissa Gilbert is representing kid actors.”
