CHANGE OF HABIT ON TCM. Elvis’s last feature film

Two disturbing moments in this age of WOKENESS. Lovely Barbara McNair being referred to as ‘black as the ace of spades’ and Elvis telling his new nurses that two previous nurses were raped and one of them actually enjoyed it. Were these things funny in 1969?

Rape was a punchline in movies and even TV in the late 60s and early 70s. See “The Hospital” with George C. Scott. You can also find a joking reference to rape in at least one early episode of MASH on TV.
