Gallup: U.S. Black-White relations at a "new low"

Race relations at the lowest point in 20 years, dropping from 70% positive in 2013 to 42% in 2021

-Currently, 42% of Americans say relations between the two groups are "very" or "somewhat" good, while 57% say they are "somewhat" or "very" bad.

-As recently as 2001, 70% of U.S. adults rated Black-White relations positively.

-As the nation continues to grapple with racial equity, Americans rate the state of Black-White relations more negatively now than at any time in over two decades.

-However, just one-third of Black Americans now view race relations positively, and the optimism and hope for a solution to racial discord that existed last year have since dissipated.

Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 1July 21, 2021 11:47 PM

It's really interesting to see it was 70% positive only 8 years ago. Have things got so much worse for people in only 8 years?

by Anonymousreply 2July 21, 2021 11:49 PM

You lost me at “equity”, OP. Equality under the law is a moral imperative - “equity” of outcome is a Marxist lie.

Racism is the cancer that will kill Murica.

by Anonymousreply 4July 21, 2021 11:50 PM

Agreed, r3, but I was just pasting quotes from what Gallup wrote.

by Anonymousreply 5July 21, 2021 11:51 PM

Racism is a Marxist unicorn - the fact that standards of racism aren’t equally applied proves that another agenda is at work.

by Anonymousreply 6July 21, 2021 11:52 PM

[R3] Thanks for clarifying. Racial harmony would kill many agendas - none of them good for our great country.

by Anonymousreply 7July 21, 2021 11:54 PM

what-fucking-evs

just treat people like you want to be treated

by Anonymousreply 8July 21, 2021 11:55 PM

Cha-ching!

by Anonymousreply 9July 21, 2021 11:57 PM

Who knew using terms like white privilege, forcing "equality" everywhere and rioting under the banner of BLM would cause the worsening of relations.

by Anonymousreply 10July 21, 2021 11:57 PM

Please stop with the 2 groups bullshit too. European Americans make up 60 or 62 percent of the population with blacks at just 13% while Asians and Hispanics are collectively now a greater “minority” (by choice) than blacks. Asians and Hispanics overwhelmingly prefer whites to blacks - which explains the hysteria and panic in the black community for “reparations” and other evil schemes. Once white liberals stop indulging blacks in their paranoid fantasies there will be a reset.

by Anonymousreply 11July 22, 2021 12:02 AM

BLM and CRT have revealed just how serious the racism problem is this country is. And it’s mostly one-sided and pathetic. If America was so bad to black people wouldn’t there be a counter-diaspora to Africa?

by Anonymousreply 12July 22, 2021 12:06 AM

Good question, r12. It seems the obvious move, but is never mentioned.

by Anonymousreply 13July 22, 2021 12:08 AM

Perhaps it would be better for everyone if the low IQ blacks who have corrupted our institutions could operate in Africa as high IQ people among their own.

by Anonymousreply 14July 22, 2021 12:20 AM

It's time for Muriel to clean house again

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2021 12:22 AM

Where’s Mamie Eisenhower when you need her?

by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2021 12:23 AM

Once the IQ differential goes mainstream then the BLM narrative collapses as it should. Resentment mixed with dependency is not going to win over the long term.

by Anonymousreply 17July 22, 2021 12:37 AM

The BLM narrative should collapse, because it's built on so many falsehoods, but it hasn't and it won't, because it is very useful to the people in power.

by Anonymousreply 18July 22, 2021 1:32 AM

Maybe if the media spent less time focusing on systemic racism, people would get a break from thinking about it 24/7. The overkill doesn’t actually improve race relations in any meaningful way. Plus Hispanics and Asian must be getting pissed about being ignored.

by Anonymousreply 19July 22, 2021 1:39 AM

While there are still racist individuals and racist social constructs in the US, I still think the recent decline of race relations has more to do with the increasing gap between the classes. Last summer it was obvious that people were pissed about more than just race relations, which were actually improving years before. People are tired of being left behind and ignored. Its the same thing with women, they are now putting their foot down about men taking advantage of them, even if it happened decades ago.

But most people cannot see beyond the BLM organization to realize it is just a component of a larger movement. The elite will use it to divide and conquer. We already have people in this thread criticizing BLM when they themselves are LGBT and part of a marginalized group of people. This is how just how the elite want it. Yes r19 why not throw Hispanics and Asians in the mix? More minorities fighting against each other, meanwhile the wealthy can execute their plans of total takeover.

by Anonymousreply 20July 22, 2021 1:45 AM
The overkill doesn’t actually improve race relations in any meaningful way.

It's not meant to improve race relations, r19. It's meant to destroy them completely, for all the benefits that brings for the powerful. Distraction from their own activities via constant infighting, a permanent "out" for any politician or billionaire who gets in trouble (just take the knee and all is forgivenl!)

Not to mention that there is an expanding class of people who benefits and profits from it, from the Ibram X. Kendi $25,000 per hour speaking fee types at the top, to the people who now can kill, maim, steal, you name it, and often be let off far more easily by the justice system, and rarely covered by the media, because they can claim racism unless they are treated with kid gloves.

by Anonymousreply 21July 22, 2021 1:48 AM

The attack on STEM education is also horrifying to immigrants who wish that their very bright children might get a good enough public education to prepare them for STEM jobs, which many of them excel at.

BLM wants to destroy the very foundation of mathematics - they literally argue that 1+1=2 is a white supremacist social construction.

I draw the line at such mindlessness.

by Anonymousreply 22July 22, 2021 2:32 AM

"Racism is a Marxist unicorn - the fact that standards of racism aren’t equally applied proves that another agenda is at work."

Pretending racism doesn't exist (while being racist) is Republicanism at work. Remember that guy waving the Confederate flag at the Capitol? Republicans love the Confederacy

" to the people who now can kill, maim, steal, you name it, and often be let off far more easily"

You mean white people? Because studies show black people are punished more harshly when they commit the same crime as a white person

by Anonymousreply 23July 22, 2021 2:37 AM

"The BLM narrative should collapse, because it's built on so many falsehoods, but it hasn't and it won't, because it is very useful to the people in power."

The Republican narrative should collapse, because it's built on so many falsehoods

by Anonymousreply 24July 22, 2021 2:38 AM

I’ve seen this movie before and fewer prosecution for low levels offense will lead to more serious crime. Crimes in the cities will push out the middle class and lead to lots of future financial issues. Trying to level the playing field in education will fail just as it’s failed for the past 50 years. However, it will also push the middle class out of the cities. The only answer is to focus on economic inequality and move away from the racial equity stuff.

by Anonymousreply 25July 22, 2021 2:46 AM

"I’ve seen this movie before and fewer prosecution for low levels offense will lead to more serious crime."

Actually, that's been proven wrong. And it leads to prison overcrowding which leads to serious criminals being let out of jail to make room for people guilty of minor offenses

"The only answer is to focus on economic inequality and move away from the racial equity stuff."

As if economic equality isn't tied to racial equity. And you conservatives are the ones making it harder for poor people of all races but giving tax cuts to billionaires and big business while being opposed to raising the minimum wage

by Anonymousreply 26July 22, 2021 2:50 AM

The BLM movement is turning people off and hurting race relations more than anything else. Besides, the USA really needs to start paying attention to ALL minorities instead of going completely overboard on one of them. It's a very toxic and unhealthy situation.

by Anonymousreply 27July 22, 2021 2:51 AM

Oprah says she as a black billionaire is less privileged than the poorest white people in America.

by Anonymousreply 28July 22, 2021 2:58 AM

Economic inequality means giving people a living wage. If you’re going to focus on racial equity, for example United planning to hire blacks and women in large numbers for future pilot jobs, you will fail. Ditto for increasing black representation in STEM to equal white/Asian representation. Good luck!

by Anonymousreply 29July 22, 2021 2:58 AM

Isn’t the media telling us constantly that race relations are the worse they’ve been in years? So why is it a surprise that most people believe that if it’s all they’re told in media.

by Anonymousreply 30July 22, 2021 3:00 AM

The argument for reparations and racial equity is so stupid only an Academic would buy into it.

by Anonymousreply 31July 22, 2021 3:12 AM

Can someone explain exactly what is meant by the word "equity"?

It seem to be suddenly being used in place of the word "equality", as it has here by Gallup.

What's the difference between the two? Why is "equality" no longer a good word/thing?

by Anonymousreply 32July 22, 2021 4:07 AM

Basically “equality” is treating everyone the same.

“Equity” means everyone gets equal Outcomes. And since Blacks are so far behind on various levels (education, income etc) you have to give them MORE to get them outcomes that are “equatable”.

It’s then used to say things like “let’s let blacks into special schools even if their grades and test scores are lower” so their “outcome” ie acceptance rate is the same as whites.

Basically it’s a way to justify giving them special treatment.

by Anonymousreply 33July 22, 2021 4:22 AM

There are tons of problems in the black community that only blacks themselves can fix. They have to stop blaming everybody else for their own internal problems that infest their culture.

by Anonymousreply 42July 22, 2021 5:06 AM

In 2001, I never thought about race. Now it's all I think about. I don't feel safe around people of color. I wouldn't want to work with or engage socially with POC who I didn't thoroughly know. It's too dangerous. Everything is so one sided that blacks can do whatever they want and get away with it. Even questioning blatant lies can lead to cancellation. That is a privilege white people have never had.

I hope we do come together. It doesn't feel good in the US right now.

by Anonymousreply 43July 22, 2021 7:03 AM

R2 you can't be serious! I'm Australian and even I can see how deeply race relations have deteriorated in the US especially in the last couple of years during the Dump Presidency.

WTF R43? WTF? WTF?

by Anonymousreply 44July 22, 2021 7:12 AM

It would be nice if blacks revolted and killed all whites.

by Anonymousreply 45July 22, 2021 8:00 AM
It would be nice if blacks revolted and killed all whites.

Then the whites would have to innocently defend themselves against the black attacks. Blacks have shit on the police, military, hell, even whites who actually try to help are painted as "white saviors". I know which team my money is on. All you need is a foot locker. a best buy, and a protest as a lure and the rest should be pretty easy.

by Anonymousreply 46July 22, 2021 8:06 AM

Cardi B recently said that white twinks are to blame for pitting POC music artists against each other on Twitter.

So, race relations are, in fact, at an all time low. Obviously.

However, Cardi, however wise she may be, is wrong. Since most of us here were once white twinks, we can talk on this very important subject with quick precision: Us fags don't pit POC music artists against each other. We just pit everyone against Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 47July 22, 2021 8:41 AM

Yeah well, meanwhile "low income", blacks and their supporters (largely white socialist limousine liberal democrats) combined votes put Eric Adams over as next mayor of NYC. Pretty much same for Buffalo and Rochester. Oh and NYC will be getting first black Manhattan attorney general in history.

Relations may not be what many would want between whites and blacks, but clearly the latter is gaining turf. Well at least in cities like Chicago, NYC, Boston, SF, LA, and other areas including (surprisingly) places like Minnesota.

Here in NYC blacks make up > 20% of total population (maybe low as 13%), but again that hasn't stopped them from gaining power. At state level the only white person in charge is King Cuomo, and he likely will be gone after 2022 elections are over. Leaders of state assembly, senate and attorney general are all POC. Oh and they've managed to get out of King Cuomo all sorts of things ranging from bail reform to legalization of pot. The latter included a wholesale catering to "communities of "color" with many things such as big blanket amnesty for pot convictions.

by Anonymousreply 48July 22, 2021 9:20 AM

I don't understand why Asians and Hispnics don't demand more. There are more Hispanics than African Americans in the US, yet you wouldn't know by looking at tv. Tv shows are overflowing with black characters, yet very few hispanic characters. How is this fair? Same with holding office. Black people like to play the victim and say they don't get the same opportunities as whites, yet as R48 states there are many blacks in power in the US. I bet you will not find the same number for Hispanics, even though they make up a larger number.

by Anonymousreply 49July 22, 2021 9:27 AM

Actually, there are more white people who despise racists and structural violence policies.

We are UNITED.

Black Lives Matter!

by Anonymousreply 50July 22, 2021 9:29 AM

R49

We've been through this many, many times.

*Hispanics* as a demographic group means nothing, same as "gays".

Each of above two groups contain a vast demographic made up of persons from a bewildering array of social, economic and racial backgrounds. Many "white" Hispanics such as those of Cuban, Argentine, Brazilian, and other groups consider themselves just that, *white*. They have nothing in common with Mexicans, blacks, and other (what they consider) minorties. More so the higher up socio-economic ladder they sit. Even poverty genteel Cubans believe they have it over poorer and darker skinned people.

Starting from there "Hispanics" are quite well represented in media, government, and elsewhere.

Looking at these images of Latino/Hispanic actors majority can and have passed for simply "white/European".

If Desi Arnaz had been a black Cuban he never would have gotten near Lucille Ball much less became the famous actor/producer and other force in Hollywood. As it was Ms. Ball had to work rather hard to put her husband over with those who didn't appreciate their "mixed marriage" on television or elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 53July 22, 2021 12:13 PM

It's intersting, has the Census from last year reported any #s yet? Has the 13% black # gone up or down? If it still holds, we should only see about 1 black person per 10 if we were truly being representative in movies and tv shows.

by Anonymousreply 62July 26, 2021 1:30 PM

R2...That was my initial thought. I'd say absolutely not. The reason this downturn is spin. People have been convinced that things are worse. I'm sure that most of participants in this poll who responded negatively to the questions posed have no idea how they been unwittingly conditioned by race profiteers & community members who need to convince others to think like they do to justify their own enabling points of view.

by Anonymousreply 63July 26, 2021 1:31 PM

R63 I thought voting for Obama would improve race relations. When Trayvon Martin was shot, Obama made the comment that Trayvon could've been his own son. He also made other racially charged comments about the shootings of Michael Brown and Philando Castille that pissed off a lot of Latinos I knew at the time in East LA. Some of them at the time said that Obama had made race relations worse with his comments, and asked why Obama had never gone out of his way to make political personal comments about Latinos who have been shot by police too. I went back to my old neighborhood and found out that some of my old neighbors voted for Trump. I think the Democrats really need to be worried about the Latino vote.

by Anonymousreply 66July 26, 2021 2:01 PM

In one of the few empirical studies of technocracy, political scientist Robert Putnam defines technocrats as persons “who exercise power by virtue of their technical knowledge” and describes the “technocratic mentality” in terms of five key characteristics:

- Confidence that social problems can be solved by scientific or technological means.

- Skepticism or hostility toward politicians and political institutions.

- Little sympathy for the openness and equality of democracy.

- A preference for pragmatic over ideological or moral assessments of policy alternatives.

- Strong commitment to technological progress in the form of material productivity, without concern for questions of distributive or social justice.

Putnam’s 1977 study further distinguishes between two types of technocrats: those with engineering technical knowledge versus those with economic technical knowledge—noting that the two groups diverge with regard to characteristics three, four, and five. Economic technocrats were more likely than engineering technocrats to grant importance to politics and equality and to be more interested in issues of social justice.

Last year was a disaster for race relations. White people (most of whom are not prejudiced) were villainized in a ridiculous way. Condescended to. Blamed for things done generations ago by people who weren’t even their ancestors. BLM was not a corrective; it was a bizarre overcorrective based on a bs narrative (all cops bad; all blacks innocent victims).

by Anonymousreply 68July 26, 2021 2:15 PM

I thought Biden was supposed to bring everyone together?

by Anonymousreply 69July 26, 2021 2:23 PM

Only reason this whole BLM movement has gained any sort of major traction is because white socialist liberal democrats have joined in the fray.

Yes, back in the 1950's, 1960's and even before or since until modern times you had whites from various levels of society involving themselves with issues affecting African Americans. People like Eleanor Roosevelt going around telling coloreds about what raw deal they are getting.

Ironically if white limousine liberals of Manhattan had their way the Garcia woman would be on her way to becoming next mayor of NYC. Unfortunately for them low income and persons of color in four outer boroughs thought differently, so there you are....

by Anonymousreply 70July 26, 2021 8:53 PM

r70, The NY media got Adams punk ass elected. Dumbass centrists of all colors and striped had his back. Don’t blame him on minorities.

by Anonymousreply 71July 26, 2021 9:12 PM

It's as if everyone has tacitly - and tragically, perhaps - acknowledged that MLK's "stay in school, study hard and join society as an equal" message has be jettisoned in favor of a much more combative "fist in their faces/through any means necessary" Malcolm X message that sanctions violence. Equal opportunity is passe and now equal outcome (the foolishly termed "equity") is being demanded with no regard to how it will impact society at large. But "equity" isn't feasible or moral or sane, has no historical precedent and requires the destruction of institutions critical to the functioning of society and/or civilization itself. To make thing worse, the most respected and influential black figures - like Obama and Oprah - have joined the bandwagon so that there are few moderate voices to help dial things back. A corner has been turned - but to what?

by Anonymousreply 72July 26, 2021 9:22 PM

Both of them made racially divisive remarks from time to time and all I could do was SMH and wonder how clueless they could be.

I always remember Michelle's turning a short person's request to get something off a top shelf for her in the grocery store into a racist insult and it just blew my mind. it told me how she thought and it wasn't pretty. It also told me she needed therapy. by Anonymousreply 89July 28, 2021 2:50 AM

Every time I read this kind of thread filled with all the hypocrisy of the American Libs, I tell myself that saddly, the USA will never succeed in solving racial issues. The issue of racism, many blacks have turned it into a systematic victim card now. And these days, for not REAL reason while there are real issues to be resolved in the first place within their own community. Example: Black on Black crimes is 10 times higher than white police crimes on blacks. But now when a criminal black man who is beaten or brutally arrested after being violent or fleeing he becomes a martyr or a saint. And the useful white idiots foolishly relay this victimistic and unhealthy propaganda.

The real victims of racism that no one talks about, and especially not the white people who do not want to look their history in the mirror are the Natives Americans decimated on their own Lands. Do black people care about them? Never. Are blacks more to complain about? No. All this is shamefully unfair, hypocritical and hideous.

But what has become really distressing and terrible is the way in which Americans are internationalizing THEIR domestic issues around the world, via Internet, without even worrying that they are once again destabilising other countries. On this website we can largely see, every fucking day and on every fucking posts the ridiculous automatisms taken by white so called "cool and inclusive" who treat all those who do not agree with them as racist, nazis, fascist, as if they were 10 years old kids or that they were all mentally retarded. The level is very very low. This leads me to believe that America does not really want to solve this racism problem within its country. There is such an obsession with race, on any damn subject, that it feels like reading people who are interned in psychiatry. All this is primarily a behavioral problem. If you all stop looking at others through the prism of the race to which they belongs and listened to them instead without wanting at all costs to put them in a box, you would begin to heal and grow.

But with the low mentally on here, I guess saying all that makes me look like someone who is a crazy Trumpdard or a conservative or a Nazis or a racist or a fascist. Keep thinking you all are smarter when the whole world can perfectly see you all are stupid asf. It's like you all never learn.

R90,

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

[bold]Everyone[/bold] on this website is now dumber for having listened to it.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

R92 At no point in your childish and pathetic post you were able to give any argument. You are only proving me right and I thank you for that. When you are not able to argue, as adults do, just try to keep your dignity and shut your mouth.

Obama gave gays marriage equality, which for the 1%/power gay set he runs around with was more than sufficient.

Obama's administration got the ball rolling on trans issues (using lavatories, passports issued in whatever gender, etc...).

Obama is the DEVIL!!!!!!!
