Portland, ME

A friend recently moved there and raves about it. He says the gay community is small - and incredibly friendly. Lots outdoor types etc. As I approach 50 sounds good to me.

You can't afford it.

by Anonymousreply 1July 21, 2021 8:37 PM

I certainly can. I have a ton of equity in my home now. I'd love to downsize.

It is beautiful with a great food scene and so much adventure to be had. Mainers can be a prickly bunch, but are funny too. Go inland and they don't really understand the rest of the country.

by Anonymousreply 3July 21, 2021 9:09 PM

Mainers are very crabby.

If you go, next year though, be sure to visit gay artist Winslow Homer’s studio, which has tours through the art museum.

R4, and tan like lobsters in the summer.

by Anonymousreply 6July 21, 2021 9:21 PM

The winters will have you singing a different tune.

by Anonymousreply 7July 21, 2021 9:31 PM

Mainers are v̶e̶r̶y̶ ̶c̶r̶a̶b̶b̶y̶ have public lice

by Anonymousreply 8July 21, 2021 9:42 PM

I guess they'd die in winter. Scratchy Summers.

by Anonymousreply 9July 21, 2021 9:43 PM

Do it. If you can handle the winter (or can afford to GTFO during winter), then it sounds good to me.

Portland is like Burlington only not as liberal.

by Anonymousreply 11July 21, 2021 9:47 PM

Better if you are a lesbean with a Subaru.

by Anonymousreply 12July 21, 2021 9:48 PM

Burlington is much better than Portland! OP, you should consider Montpelier (VT).

by Anonymousreply 13July 22, 2021 11:14 AM

The problem with Portland, OP, is that the houses are pretty meh

Yeah I looked at some of the houses on Zillow. They do look chunky… And definitely in need of a lot of work

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2021 6:35 PM

R15 I meant to say they do look a mess… Friends were telling me Burlington is really cool ..and it’s close to Montreal so that’s a plus

by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2021 6:38 PM

^ What would you prefer Montreal or New England?

by Anonymousreply 17July 22, 2021 9:05 PM

Have fun in winter.
