SO tired of the blue-gray cinematography. Would love to see a filmmaker to an action or historical epic in vibrant Technicolor again.

by Anonymousreply 1July 20, 2021 4:49 PM

That chinbeard isn't winning any awards, either.

by Anonymousreply 2July 20, 2021 4:51 PM

Well... Matt Damon's hair is better than Adam Driver's face.

by Anonymousreply 3July 20, 2021 4:52 PM

Hopefully we'll see more of Matt's booty in the movie.

The Last Duel: Matt Damon’s stupid face singlehandedly destroys Ridley Scott movie

there, corrected for you

by Anonymousreply 5July 20, 2021 4:55 PM

Matt Damon looks like a hillbilly with that 90’s, “business in the front-party in the back” hair piece.

by Anonymousreply 6July 20, 2021 4:58 PM

I read the book. The story that told really happened in the XIV century.

by Anonymousreply 7July 20, 2021 5:03 PM

I love Adam Driver in the french movie "GRAND MIGRATION DES GNOUS". The moment he finally takes the plunge to lead his family to safety= OSCAR

Adam Driver is so ugly that he hurts my feelings.

by Anonymousreply 9July 20, 2021 5:07 PM

R9 that's unfair, he's beautiful for a gnu

by Anonymousreply 10July 20, 2021 5:09 PM

Gnu?

by Anonymousreply 11July 20, 2021 5:14 PM

wilderbeest if you will

for R11

[quote] When it comes to a harsh review she received 50 years ago for her first film, Anjelica Huston has neither forgotten nor forgiven. Critic John Simon wrote of the actress's debut performance in 1969's A Walk With Love and Death, directed by her father, John Huston: "There is a perfectly blank, supremely inept performance by Huston's daughter Anjelica, who has the face of an exhausted gnu, the voice of an unstrung tennis racket, and a figure of no discernible shape." (A gnu, in case you're wondering, is a type of antelope.)

The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France is a 2004 book by American author Eric Jager concerning the last officially recognized judicial duel fought in France. It tells the story of the December 29, 1386 trial by combat (duel) in which the Norman knight Jean de Carrouges killed the squire Jacques Le Gris. Carrouges had accused Le Gris of raping his wife Marguerite de Carrouges, née de Thibouville, that previous January, and had gone to King Charles VI seeking an appeal to the decision handed down by Count Pierre d'Alençon, whom Carrouges believed favored Le Gris. Whichever combatant was still alive at the end of the duel would be declared the winner as a sign of God's will. If Jean de Carrouges had lost the duel, Marguerite de Carrouges would have been burned at the stake as punishment for her false accusation. In the centuries since Le Gris' death the case has become an important cultural legend in France, and the guilt or innocence of its participants has been a source of great debate among historians and jurists.[1]

Didn’t people of that time period shave their heads to cut down on head lice?

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2021 5:39 PM

Head lishe.

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2021 5:40 PM

Damon and bad wigs in historical epics: you'd think he would have learned his lesson after the disaster of The Great Wall. I never buy him as anything other than a 20th/21st century character.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2021 5:51 PM

Is Matt Damion playing a younger guy? Think he’s a little too old for that role.

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2021 6:07 PM

The Great Wall was the Citizen Kane of Sino-American Historical Science Fiction/Fantasy Films.

by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2021 7:03 PM

I’ll see it. Scott loves to make grubby historical films.

by Anonymousreply 23July 20, 2021 7:04 PM

R9, at least credit Jackie Mabley when you steal her lines. Moms deserves our appreciation.

by Anonymousreply 24July 20, 2021 7:08 PM

I thought it mean the Last DOOL.

by Anonymousreply 25July 20, 2021 7:24 PM

DOOL?

by Anonymousreply 26July 20, 2021 7:44 PM

R26 Days Of Our Lives, I’m assuming.

by Anonymousreply 27July 20, 2021 7:53 PM

We need a wig poll. Worst wig: Matt Damon in this movie, or the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen’s Ben Platt?

by Anonymousreply 28July 20, 2021 8:18 PM

Apparently, Adam Driver replaced ... Ben Affleck! Ben was supposed to play a squire.

by Anonymousreply 29July 20, 2021 8:19 PM

Did they switch roles, r29? Cuz Ben is also in the movie.

Here's a link about Adam Driver taking over Ben's original role.

[quote] Variety reports that Affleck has moved from a leading role to a supporting role alongside Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer. Scheduling conflicts with Affleck’s previously arranged commitment, the film Deep Water, led to the change.

by Anonymousreply 32July 20, 2021 8:41 PM

A 'shonda'?

Oh dear. Hon, it's 'shanda'.

by Anonymousreply 33July 20, 2021 8:41 PM

OMG. Couldn't make it through 30 seconds of that trailer.

Jodie Comer's wig didn't look very good either. Sort of like "Princess Leia with her head in a vice".

by Anonymousreply 34July 20, 2021 9:03 PM

[quote] I read the book.

So is this expensive, Dolby-thumping, blue-grey teen movie all about one man raping some female?

by Anonymousreply 35July 20, 2021 9:56 PM

R8 So he escaped that alligator!

by Anonymousreply 36July 20, 2021 10:00 PM

R22 "The Great Wall was the … "

Ridley Scott always gives me Deja Vu.

"The Last Duel" is NOT a remake of "The Long Duel" with Yul Brynner and Trevor Howard or "The Last Valley" with Michael Caine and Omar Sharif.

Ad-man Ridley Scott made "Gladiator" which is a shameless rip off from 'Spartacus' and 'Fall of The Roman Empire'.

And experts tell us all his so-called historical movies are full of anachronisms. He's like an adolescent stealing ideas and making stuff for kids.

by Anonymousreply 40July 20, 2021 10:45 PM

Adam Driver is hideous, and not talented enough to be a character actor. Hollywood needs to stop thrusting him upon the public.

by Anonymousreply 41July 20, 2021 11:19 PM

As I read the comments I said to myself how bad could this wig be? And then I watch the clip. It’s horrible.

by Anonymousreply 42July 21, 2021 12:53 AM

R41: Yep. Same goes for Timothee Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 43July 21, 2021 12:54 AM

The same was with djoko.

by Anonymousreply 44July 21, 2021 4:30 AM

Damon’s wig is even worse than the one that he wore in the cable movie about Liberace. IIRC, he was too old for that role as well.

by Anonymousreply 45July 23, 2021 1:39 PM

[quote] Damon’s wig is even worse than the one that he wore in the cable movie about Liberace.

Aka Sincerely Yours: The Liberace Story.

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2021 3:12 PM

It looks promising.
