Generally, where would you rather live? Why?
I know they're both vast, thus the "generally".
Remember the U.K. isn't in the E.U. anymore (as if DLers don't know that, but just in case).

America would beat Europe's ass in war. Just saying.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 20, 2021 1:53 PM |
Prediction: most DLers are Americans who'd rather live in the E.U.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 20, 2021 1:54 PM |
Easy: the US. Why? The EU doesn't have freedom of speech.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 20, 2021 1:55 PM |
I find the Balkans fascinating, so I'd rather live in the E.U., as it's next door. Croatia is already a member, too.

EU for the variety of cultures, care for its citizens, level of sanity.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 20, 2021 2:01 PM |
I left one for the other, and it’s much better.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 20, 2021 2:02 PM |
R4, the EU is so controlling of expression, the French don’t allow Muslim girls to wear traditional headwear. The Germans don’t allow model airplanes of WWII German aircraft to have historically accurate markings because they include a tail swastika.

[quote] level of sanity.
In both the USA and European countries, depends on where.
For every Florida there’s a Poland. For every Alabama there’s a Hungary.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 20, 2021 2:05 PM |
Why are the Europeans dressed like they live in the 19th century?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 20, 2021 2:07 PM |
I wonder what most Brits would say.

Why do these videos always seem to feature goo-goo baby cartoons?

Aimed at the 'average' intellectual level of humanoids

The U.S. is dystopian to me. I was shocked by the overall state of things (roads, buildings, etc) and the amount of homeless people when I worked there in two different states for just over a year. I don’t miss it. Americans are very nice and friendly though.
Canada was very different and felt more modern to me, their way of thinking seemed more Scandinavian or Nordic in some ways. Better infrastructure too.

I love Europe because of their food. Even in the local shops you find much more variety of fresh food, fruits and vegetables. Everyday American food eaten by most is really shocking and bland and non-nutritional.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 20, 2021 2:34 PM |
The US is a very weird country. Just about everything about it is strange and much of it backwards.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 20, 2021 2:48 PM |
I find it interesting that across the Atlantic there's this "parallel-universe" "country", probably much better, version of the U.S. It has a capital, a legislature, etc. It has a currency like ours, and it's roughly the same size (kind of), and has roughly a comparable population. Its name is two words (like ours basically is - E.U., U.S.), and ... I don't know what else.
No unifying language, though. Right?

I'd like to retire EU-adjacent. Low living costs but being near everything the EU has to offer. Macedonia, perhaps.

R22 I loved traveling through the Balkans - Serbia was absolutely amazing, Belgrade reminded me a lot of Berlin.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 21, 2021 4:20 PM |
R23, did you visit Bosnia? I’m curious about it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 22, 2021 6:34 AM |
EE.UU.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 22, 2021 7:13 AM |
How many Americans are voting for EU but have actually never LIVED in the EU? They just have a romanticized idea of what it is.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 22, 2021 7:33 AM |
OP, you forgot to add, I have both citizenships.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 22, 2021 8:03 AM |
R27, ack, yeah, I totally thought of that but ran out of room. Sorry!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 22, 2021 1:14 PM |
I have homes in both the USA and Germany. I said the EU, but I have to say that the EU wins by a hair. Both have a lot of reasons to live there and A LOT of reasons not to live there. I have to add that in both the USA and the EU, I live in fairly isolated areas where "real" life doesn't really affect me much.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 22, 2021 1:21 PM |
R29, what are some negatives of the E.U.?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 22, 2021 1:22 PM |
Why the “E.U” and not just Europe? Do you understand that there’s no such place as the European Union?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 22, 2021 1:28 PM |
I am a sophisticated American who loved France on my semester abroad. The food is great and the people are so fancy! So naturally, I want to live in the EU.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 22, 2021 1:28 PM |
R30, It is hard for me to separate the EU from Germany. A big negative is the bureaucracy. You go one place, fill out a form. Take the form to another place, fill out a form virtually identical to the first. Take that form to another place... you get the idea. Also, the amount of documentation that is required is insane.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 22, 2021 1:50 PM |
R24 Yes I visited Sarajevo and Mostar, both beautiful places with a lot of history.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 22, 2021 1:55 PM |
R31, you're not getting vaccinated, are you?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 22, 2021 2:12 PM |
Montenegro and Scotland.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 22, 2021 2:18 PM |
R22 here. I meant Montenegro - not Macedonia.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 22, 2021 2:21 PM |
Basically 95% of DLers are in the U.S. or E.U.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 22, 2021 2:22 PM |
Any Chinese?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 27, 2021 6:49 PM |
I'm American, which is a huge gift and I've always told my partner that I'd rather live on the street in America vs a McMansion anywhere else.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 27, 2021 7:39 PM |
Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
