Everton FC suspend player for alleged sex offense

This poor team never get a stroke of luck. Always something going wrong for them.

Let’s hope this is all just precautionary, and nothing too serious and egregious (though it’s not looking likely).

You’ve got to feel for Rafa Benitez. He shows up as the new manager, ready to try and rehab his career at this pokey useless club, and a week later this comes out.

All details leaked so far suggest that the player in question seems to be Gylfi Sigurdsson.

At least it’s not Jordan Pickford, thank goodness. The country couldn’t take that kind of heartbreak right now.

Moment of silence for Phil Neville💙

Icelandic media are not subject to the jurisdiction of English courts, and have no qualms about naming Sigurdsson

Source is a bit (a lot) gossipy, but says that the allegation involves sexting underage girls.

R5 figures it’s something like that if a footballer is involved. They’re basically entitled men on the same level of rockstars, with the same rockstar tastes.

In the Premier League many of the grown males players are hitting up teen girls online, but most get away with it. Looks like Sigurdsson will basically be pushed onto the sword to protect hundreds of others, and the perverted madness will continue on without him.

by Anonymousreply 6Last Tuesday at 7:46 AM

R4 I’m glad that the Icelandic media are being so transparent. This must be difficult news to hear about a countryman, even though by all accounts Icelanders don’t care much about footie.

Before the new broke fully and we got confirmation of which player is under arrest, senior Everton midfielder Fabian Delph was wrongly rumoured to be the one, because he was set to miss the upcoming preseason Florida Cup due to coming into contact with a COVID-positive person.

Delph must be enraged. This kind of wrongful press can do so much damage to a career, even if it is only the briefest mention. Hopefully Everton do all they can to make it up to him.

The British media is anything but free. Their laws are too constricting.

If Sigurdsson goes down, then 27-year old player Ben Mendy (at Man City atm) needs to as well. He is known to pursue 16-year old girls online.

And they’re two drops in an enormous ocean, I’m afraid.

by Anonymousreply 11Last Wednesday at 3:40 AM

Now it makes sense why all the team’s young talent are fleeing.

Sigurdsson’s wife Alexandra deleted her socials, after defending him to upset Everton fans. This is looking very ugly.

Why ruin your career and life over texts? I mean if that's what it is in this case? I can see the payoff if you're a deviant and are working to actual sex with a minor. But writing sexy texts that are probably cringeworthy? Just stick with porn and self-release. At least you know you won't be blowing your multi-millionaire life away.

R1, Rafa's probably looking into his contract for a morality clause. One where he can fire Everton for having players of low morale character and he gets to keep his salary.

[quote] Rafa's probably looking into his contract for a morality clause. One where he can fire Everton for having players of low morale character

Ah, yes, I haff sympathy with Beni.

The previous teams I haff managed all suffer with a distinct lack of morale, so I fired them. Iz only reasonable course of ection.

Those teams tell the press that they terminated my contract, but I assure you thet I left in dizgust before they could do that. Respect, respect.

I mees my Chelsea boys. They were good boys, the best.

by Anonymousreply 16Last Wednesday at 6:35 AM

I really don't get men who go after minors. There are plenty 18+ year-olds who look 16, if that is what you like. Hell, some will even dress up as school girls if you ask. Why ruin your life pursuing actual underage girls? And leaving digital trail too?

by Anonymousreply 17Last Wednesday at 8:14 AM

R17 it’s a power thing, mixed with a taboo thing. It’s not as hot to these sociopathic and narcissistic creeps if their sex is moral.

Men with too much money and influence for their IQ & social maturity levels get off on abusing the influence they have and manipulating the less powerful and privileged groups like teens and women and poor people and gays, because it puts them above the law and conventional morality.

For them 14-17 year old pussy is ideal, because it’s off-limits and immoral, but not the type of immoral that strips you of your career, excommunicates you from society and gets you put in solitary or the Nonce’s wing your whole life. The old “she’s a horny teen groupie slut and she wanted it so stop infantilising women” defense still holds water for a lot of people.

by Anonymousreply 18Last Wednesday at 8:24 AM

He's hot! Dumb little bitch should have kept her trap shut and get that beautiful viking cock!

by Anonymousreply 19Last Wednesday at 10:12 AM

16 is legal in the UK, so he must have strayed below that.

by Anonymousreply 20Last Wednesday at 10:20 AM

R19 the man is nearly 32, married to a beautiful former beauty queen (Miss Iceland/Miss World Sport/Miss World Finalist), with a baby at home (born Christmas 2020). Why on Earth did he feel the need to hit up under-16 year olds and engage them in sexual conversations? That is deeply fucked up. He’s just about old enough to be the uncle or even the father (if he were a teen dad) of kids that age.

Even if 14 & 15 & 16 year-olds want to fuck famous goodlooking rich people in their 30s, that doesn’t make it a good idea or permissible. Schoolkids are hormonal messes who usually make poor impulsive decisions based on insecurity, and they lack the life experience and maturity and rationalism to avoid abusive situations.

by Anonymousreply 21Last Wednesday at 10:57 AM

R13 wonder if Alexandra will divorce him? Hope there’s no prenup so she can at least get a nice chunk of Premier League WAG money for the humiliation she’s going through and the tainting of her brand.

She's already come out in absolute support of her husband, hasn't she?

by Anonymousreply 23Last Wednesday at 11:25 AM

R23 she did initially, but then a day after the news broke deleted all her online accounts and went dark. Maybe police contacted her, or she found out more evidence for herself.

by Anonymousreply 24Last Wednesday at 11:26 AM

It just hit me—we’re assuming Gylfi was talking only to young girls (or, one young girl). What if that wasn’t just it?

The last thing the Premier League needs is a gay predator. It would be such a setback for LGB rights and presence in football, and they were doing so well with the visibility campaign (Rainbow Laces) this year.

by Anonymousreply 25Last Wednesday at 11:27 AM

Thanks, R24. I suppose that removing her social media presence could be an indication that she no longer supports her husband, or it could (possibly) be an indication that she is being attacked for her support for her husband, and feels that she is forced to hide her online presence.

I agree that, absent further evidence of the latter, the former is more likely.

by Anonymousreply 26Last Wednesday at 11:30 AM

The suspect has been moved out of his family home into a ‘safe house’ by police.

The rest of the Everton squad are said to be angry, and unanimously want the suspect to be named and shamed and arrested ASAP, so their club’s name isn’t a source of scandal for the rest of the upcoming season. However, management refuse to give details to the press, and the police want names to remain anonymous until the case is further along.
