Stanford graduates develop the first at-home vagina

Evvy, the first at-home vaginal microbiome, can help get at the root of vaginal infections. It may also reveal imbalances that can affect fertility, cancer risk, and preterm birth. Data from Evvy will help fill in research gaps, which long didn't include women.

To use it, you swab your vagina and send in the sample.

They sent back my unopened package sealed inside a biohazard bag and covered in "return to sender" stickers. The UPS guy pushed it up my driveway using a broom.

Then he died.

I guess for someone who has a vagina and some kind of chronic problems , it might make sense to use this.

For most of DL -- pace Cheryl at r2 -- no, we obviously wouldn't use it.

I actually think this is fantastic news. I hear stories from my sister and roommate about obgyn's (not weird, both know my late partner was a world-renowned one) and stories horrify me. Some have essentially turned their practice into a sales business where they offer women everything (botox, juvaderm...for those "changes" that happen as "we age") and really do the actual exam as a matter or form. They neglect women's real needs. I think if J was alive and I told him what the profession has become he would be appalled...

There are always microbes and infections lying in wait in bat caves. We all know that.

I like the inclusive language “people with vaginas” that they used in their Tweet.

I wouldn’t think you’d need a test to know if your biome was unhealthy.

by Anonymousreply 11July 18, 2021 11:50 AM

OP, you forgot to put the word “test” in your subject title and again in the body of your post. You make this medical test kit sound like a fleshlight.

R11 generally the female body is good at letting the brain know if something is wrong. However, it’s always possible to miss crucial early warning signs of something serious down there—it’s why they still do routine cervical smears.

by Anonymousreply 13July 18, 2021 4:12 PM

So, the test kit doesn't come with a vagina? I have to purchase that separately?
