Wow. Her career went down the shitter fast
Melissa McCarthy

The movie she did recently with Octavia Spencer is unwatchable.

I only could tolerate her in Bridesmaids, and even in that, she was barely watchable. She’s not as funny as she thinks she is, and her body is repulsive.

She was fine until she started working with her husband. Every film he has directed has flopped.

She has a terrible agent or terrible advisers, plus she needs to stop working with her husband, who does her career (nor his) no favours.
She needs to pick better scripts like Spy or Can You Ever Forgive Me?

She’s just doing a prestige mini thing with Nicole Kidman. 2nd Oscar nomination two years ago.

i like her, but i agree, that superhero film was terrible.

I like her on TV. Her Chris Farley routine works on SNL, but tires out quickly in movies.

She’s a fat whore.

She's doing fine

She sends her love!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 18, 2021 1:09 AM |
Love her.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 18, 2021 1:09 AM |
I loved Spy.

Oh, come on you bitches! She’s awesome. The Heat and Can You Ever Forgive Me were great. Plus, she seems pretty cool.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 18, 2021 1:27 AM |
Yeah, she needs to ease up on the mediocre work with her husband. He's a nice guy and all but not a great director/writer.

I liked her in Mike and Molly
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 18, 2021 1:43 AM |
The Spy movie was really well done.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 18, 2021 1:45 AM |
Can You Ever Forgive me was a fucking MASTERPIECE. She acted her ass off in it.
But she keeps going back to Fatty Fall Down Go Boom. Sadly.

[quote] Yeah, she needs to ease up on the mediocre work with her husband. He's a nice guy and all but not a great director/writer.
There were a few essays/reviews in the last year that said essentially the same.

She is one of the most one dimensional actresses out there today. In movies or on television, she’s always playing herself, the same mannerisms and tics designed to play to the cheap seats.

Comedians don't have long movie careers.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 18, 2021 2:10 AM |
She always plays the same type: A loud, fat, obnoxious white trash bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 18, 2021 2:11 AM |
Spy was one of the best action comedies ever. Even the director Paul Feig seems confused why there hasn’t been a sequel. I think what it comes down to is she likes to make the experience of moviemaking more enjoyable for her vs the results. The husband movies never show her potential but presumably her daily life is better around her family and friends.

It really wasn't that fast. She had a pretty long "moment." All things considered, a good career. Obviously it's not over, but will she have another moment?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 18, 2021 2:18 AM |
She was great as Sean Spicer on SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 18, 2021 2:21 AM |
She's good in movies without her husband.
It's a question whether she's just letting him ride her coattails or whether he's indulging her bad instincts.
She was great in Bridesmaids and Spy, passable in the Heat and Identity Thief, not to mention Can You Ever Forgive Me where she went dramatic.

that voice! it's like it's not fully formed.
I never thought her Spicer was funny (She took a job away from a man! Or a leprechaun)
the SNL sketch in which she wolfs down a bottle of creamy ranch dressing was more disturbing than funny.

What I liked about her role in Bridesmaids is that there wasn’t a single fat joke. She’s a bridesmaid at her brother’s wedding and not even the slightest reference to a dress that will “look good” on various body types (which believe me is *the* topic when picking out a dress for a wedding party, more than color or price).

You type fat r27.

What I loved most about her Sean Spicer character was that it bothered him (and Trump) so much that IT WAS A WOMAN hired to play him. I thought her characterization was one of SNL best bits of Trump-skewering.

I can't stand that anorexic bitch.
