If I die at home, will my dog eat me?

I've heard stories about people dying at home not discovered for a few days and because the dogs get hungry they eat the body.

True?

by Anonymousreply 43August 12, 2021 7:10 AM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 1July 17, 2021 1:54 AM

I think they will bark before they eat you. If no one hears them, then yes, it's snack time!

by Anonymousreply 2July 17, 2021 1:54 AM

Of course they will, once they get hungry enough.

by Anonymousreply 3July 17, 2021 1:58 AM

When you die you start to rot - it is that smell that will attract the dog to possibly eat your flesh if they are starving. Be sure to wear a lot of cologne it will ward of the dogs.

by Anonymousreply 4July 17, 2021 2:05 AM

[bold]You should hope they do, OP, or do you want them to starve?[/bold]

Also, leave the toilet seat up so they have somewhere to get water.

by Anonymousreply 5July 17, 2021 2:05 AM

Maybe if you're Chinese. That's what we call karma

by Anonymousreply 6July 17, 2021 2:07 AM

True.

by Anonymousreply 7July 17, 2021 2:12 AM

Yes, fido will chow down when he's hungry enough.

What more interesting is that cats are known to wait a shorter period before chowing down on master.
Yes. —Marie Prevost

On January 21, 1937, Prevost died of acute alcoholism at the age of 40. Her body was not discovered until January 23 after neighbors complained about her dog's incessant barking. A houseboy found her body after entering her room. Police found several empty liquor bottles in the room along with a promissory note to Joan Crawford for $110.

Her funeral (which was paid for by Joan Crawford) at the Hollywood Memorial Cemetery was attended by Crawford, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Clark Gable, Wallace Beery, Mack Sennett, and Barbara Stanwyck. Prevost's sister had her remains cremated and combined them with their mother's, who had died in 1926.

In February 1937, it was discovered that Prevost's estate was valued at $300. Prevost's fate as well as that of others prompted the Hollywood community to create the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital to provide medical care for employees of the television and motion picture industry.[

OP How will you die? I expect to choke to death as I attempt to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on myself with the back of a kitchen chair.

by Anonymousreply 10July 17, 2021 2:27 AM

Yeah, it's true. Cats don't care about you much before or after you die.

by Anonymousreply 11July 17, 2021 2:28 AM

That's why you have to make sure to be FUSED to your couch, when you die.

Don't make it easy for that goddamned mutt!

It is. As far as I'm concerned, canines and fenines are herbivore, meaning they potentially consume both meat and vegetable. If the owner dies, their pets will not be fed, hence, the flesh is the only source of food.

by Anonymousreply 13July 17, 2021 2:38 AM

^^ It's Omnivore, i got mixed up

by Anonymousreply 14July 17, 2021 2:39 AM

Some will lie down and die at your side out of grief.

You really are a selfish, dying shit.

by Anonymousreply 15July 17, 2021 2:42 AM

Cats certainly do!

by Anonymousreply 16July 17, 2021 2:45 AM

OP this song has the answer to all your questions.

OP, just die properly…at a hospital, a nursing home, or in a corpse-sizzling grease fire.

See, problem solved!
If I die at home, will my dog eat me?

It's called, postmortem predation. It's built in.

Cats will eat you as soon as they're hungry.

Dogs will wait much longer but mostly because it takes them longer to get truly hungry.

Cats and Dogs will usually try and bite you on the face before they eat you but they're really just trying to get you to get up. Of course, sometimes that triggers them and they keep on going.

by Anonymousreply 19July 17, 2021 2:47 AM

They will have to use a crane at first to get your body out but it will buckle so they will have to burn the whole house down.

by Anonymousreply 20July 17, 2021 2:50 AM

Is it a rescue dog?

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2021 2:56 AM

It happens more often to cat ladies.

When police entered the property they were confronted by a gruesome scene.

Tobón, who had been dead for months, had been partially devoured by her cats, with five of them also found dead inside the apartment, El Mundo reported.

Another two were reportedly found alive in poor condition and taken to an animal shelter for treatment.

Tobón was unmarried, had no children and all her other family live in Colombia.

Local reports said she suffered from Diogenes syndrome – a hoarding disorder characterised by self-neglect and apathy.

She had lived in the apartment since 1996 and was well known for keeping the cats.

"Sometimes it smelled bad because of the cats and the boxes of food, but this time there was a very strong odour," one neighbour told local media.

"A policeman told us that it was the worst thing they had seen since they started working," another said.

A preliminary post-mortem showed she died of natural causes, but some of her neighbours believe that Tobón had contracted Covid-19.

The dead felines also faced a post-mortem, which confirmed that they had all consumed parts of their owner.

Scientists have previously studied the phenomenon, observing what happened when feral cats got on to a "body farm" used for scientific research in the US.

Researchers at the Colorado facility caught the late-night snacking on security camera, finding that the cats started eating when the bodies were in early stages of decomposition and ended when fluids begin leaking out.

They gnawed through to the bone.

With over 40 bodies to choose from at the facility, scientists found that the cats returned to the same body repeatedly - with one targeting a corpse almost nightly for 35 nights straight.

Certainly. But there's a greater chance someone will find your body first before it starts chowing down.

Now, if it were cats... you'd be half gone before anybody finds you.

by Anonymousreply 23July 17, 2021 3:00 AM

Well.

Thank you.... so much for that, R22.

*gagging as i type*

by Anonymousreply 24July 17, 2021 3:39 AM

Cats will begin by eating your eyelids, and then work from there.

I assume that this is proof of post-mortem predation, as the skin of an eyelid is the thinnest skin to be found in the human body. And therefore, presumably, the easiest to eat.

by Anonymousreply 25July 17, 2021 6:47 AM

Those cans of food are not going to open themselves.

by Anonymousreply 26July 17, 2021 7:45 AM

But wouldn’t the cat or dog be sad or grieving? Do they regret eating their best friend? Do they go through moral crisis?

by Anonymousreply 27July 17, 2021 8:03 AM

I'd rather my dog eat me than have him starve to death.

by Anonymousreply 28July 17, 2021 8:05 AM

Bites on dead people from dogs is usually an urgent nipping to arouse the dead.

by Anonymousreply 29July 17, 2021 8:31 AM

But will they be the same after they eat you? Will they need to go to therapy? Will they have developed a taste for human flesh? Who would adopt a dog that ate a human before?

by Anonymousreply 30July 17, 2021 8:32 AM

According to Caitlin Doughty they sure will

R30, I think you could out humblebrag anyone by adopting a face-eating rescue pet.

New flounce.off line:

"If you'll EXCUSE me, I have to go jerk off my severely retarded son before my rescue pet eats off his FACE!"

by Anonymousreply 32July 17, 2021 8:55 AM

I’m suddenly not hungry anymore ..

by Anonymousreply 33July 17, 2021 9:07 AM

Didn't we have a thread like this awhile back but at that time the pet of choice was the cat?
If I die at home, will my dog eat me?

Well, yeah. But only because otherwise you will turn into a zombie and then eat me! I watched The Walking Dead with you, remember?

by Anonymousreply 35July 17, 2021 9:34 AM

Yes, they will.

There was a great thread on the now-deleted IMDb forums that pretty much proved Marie Prevost's sister lied about all this, telling a newspaper in the 1950s that Marie had an extravagant funeral with the biggest names of the day sobbing in remorse. People made calls and looked at old articles in the LA Times, and there was no funeral, and no one knows where Marie's ashes even are. The assumption was that Marie Prevost's ashes were probably in her sister's possession and likely got auctioned off when the sister died.

Also the Hollywood Babylon book shows her corpse and her body wasn't missing any chunks. Sorry for the visual, but I distinctly remember reading Hollywood Babylon and wondering what the heck, because it said "EATEN BY DOG!!!!!" and her body was right there, uneaten.

by Anonymousreply 37July 17, 2021 10:45 AM

R13, 14, cats are obligate carnivores.

by Anonymousreply 38July 17, 2021 11:11 AM

Yes dogs will eat you and will start with your eyes

Oh, nope...i hate thinking about this. I think my pug would only think about this about 4-6 days out, if not more. he's fairly well fed (kind of fat) right now.

it's horrible to think about it.
